:00:08. > :00:11.Good evening. A former member of staff at a
:00:12. > :00:14.prestigious public school in South Oxfordshire claims she was forced
:00:15. > :00:17.out of her job after repeatedly raising concerns about violent
:00:18. > :00:22.behaviour and bullying among pupils. Rachel Ashley says she was pressured
:00:23. > :00:24.to leave the Oratory school in 2012. She's taken her case to an
:00:25. > :00:29.industrial tribunal. Officials at the school deny any wrongdoing.
:00:30. > :00:32.Adina Campbell reports. The Oratory is one of the country's
:00:33. > :00:35.most exclusive private schools and so any case questioning the
:00:36. > :00:40.behaviour of its pupils was always bound to cause embarrassment. During
:00:41. > :00:43.the course of the past three days, the industrial tribunal panel here
:00:44. > :00:46.in Reading has heard claims of animal cruelty to birds and cats,
:00:47. > :00:53.and also allegations of extreme bullying among some of the boys. The
:00:54. > :00:56.claims come from a former employee, Rachel Ashley, who worked at the
:00:57. > :00:59.school near Woodcote in South Oxfordshire for three years. She's
:01:00. > :01:02.brought a case for constructive unfair dismissal, saying that she'd
:01:03. > :01:05.repeatedly flagged`up her concerns to senior colleagues but was told
:01:06. > :01:12.that boys will be boys and nothing was done. Miss Ashley claims during
:01:13. > :01:15.her time as a house mother, a supervisory role, she raised
:01:16. > :01:18.concerns about four boys. She reported seeing banned items
:01:19. > :01:21.including a bow and arrow, fireworks and other sharp objects embedded in
:01:22. > :01:27.gloves and claims as a resul she feared for her own safety and that
:01:28. > :01:31.of the children. On another occasion she reported seeing a boy being
:01:32. > :01:34.bound and then beaten by others. But while she felt the incidents should
:01:35. > :01:41.have been reported to social services or the police, her worries
:01:42. > :01:45.weren't taken seriously. She was even reprimanded by other members of
:01:46. > :01:48.staff for reporting what she'd seen. Today the tribunal has heard from
:01:49. > :01:51.the school's deputy head, Thomas Hennessy, who says he was aware of
:01:52. > :02:00.incidents of bad behaviour and that these were properly investigated.
:02:01. > :02:07.Recommendations on appropriate ways of dealing with such behaviour were
:02:08. > :02:11.up to the headmaster to enforce. The hearing continues and it is likely
:02:12. > :02:14.to be a few more weeks before the panel makes its final conclusions.
:02:15. > :02:17.An Oxfordshire care home's been issued with a formal warning to
:02:18. > :02:20.improve standards by the Care Quality Commission. St Katherine's
:02:21. > :02:24.House in Wantage was visited by inspectors at the end of last year.
:02:25. > :02:29.They found the centre falling short on five of eight nationally agreed
:02:30. > :02:33.standards for quality and safety. The CQC says there's no risk to the
:02:34. > :02:37.50 residents and the company running the home is taking action to address
:02:38. > :02:41.the concerns. More than half the country is
:02:42. > :02:46.overweight and Milton Keynes is one of the fattest areas according to
:02:47. > :02:49.new figures. It's in the top ten of a table compiled Public Health
:02:50. > :02:55.England, which used people's Body Mass Index, or BMI to determine
:02:56. > :03:00.obesity. On average 63% of the UK population are overweight or obese.
:03:01. > :03:05.In Oxford it's lower at 56%. In Aylesbury Vale it's around average
:03:06. > :03:08.at 64%. Swindon is higher at 70%. And in Milton Keynes more than 72%
:03:09. > :03:20.of the population is overweight or obese. Jessica Cooper reports.
:03:21. > :03:24.Lionel used to fit in these clothes when he weighed almost 19 stone.
:03:25. > :03:30.Within three years he lost seven stone. I just wanted to look normal
:03:31. > :03:35.and wear normal clothes and I feel so much better for doing it. I
:03:36. > :03:39.sometimes go around with the grandchildren and pay on the swings
:03:40. > :03:42.and things like that. When we go on how you holidays we go on
:03:43. > :03:49.everything, everything they go on, I go on. I really enjoyed it, it is
:03:50. > :03:52.like a newly soft life. Through walking and reducing his portion
:03:53. > :03:56.size Lionel has kept his weight down but new figures show he is now
:03:57. > :04:02.amongst the minority in his local area where more than 70% of adults
:04:03. > :04:05.are classed as overweight or obese. Milton Keynes Council says reducing
:04:06. > :04:09.the health risk for people who are overweight is one of its main
:04:10. > :04:14.priorities. People who are classed in that group are referred to
:04:15. > :04:18.services by their GP. It is planning to more than double the Public
:04:19. > :04:23.health investment to tackle the obesity problem. Weight loss is the
:04:24. > :04:28.main reason why people join this gem in Bletchley and it is where the GPs
:04:29. > :04:32.refer the patients that are on exercise programmes instead of
:04:33. > :04:37.giving out prescriptions. Over the past three years I have seen over
:04:38. > :04:40.80% of people who take part in the programme and complete their 12
:04:41. > :04:44.weeks make a significant reduction to their weight and in particular we
:04:45. > :04:49.have had a number of clients who have lost upwards of two or three
:04:50. > :04:53.stone in weight by taking part in this programme. Lionel puts his
:04:54. > :04:56.weight loss down to willpower. He loves baking cakes but never eats
:04:57. > :05:00.them. Winds of up to 50 miles an hour have
:05:01. > :05:03.been battering the Thames Valley. 8,000 homes were without power this
:05:04. > :05:12.morning. Sinead Carroll reports. Clearing up after one storm and
:05:13. > :05:17.preparing for another. The guys are clearing rubbish because it gets
:05:18. > :05:18.dragged in off the field and blocks the streams and the water cannot get
:05:19. > :05:25.away. Last night's storm led to power cuts
:05:26. > :05:30.for many. It is absolutely bananas, it is so frustrating. We are living
:05:31. > :05:33.in 2014 and we do not have electricity every time there was a
:05:34. > :05:39.storm or some sort of weather. The power cuts forced closures at
:05:40. > :05:42.Marsh Baldon school and pub. Cancelled already three parties for
:05:43. > :05:51.lunch and I have also turned away three groups for lunch and then it
:05:52. > :05:53.also knocks on to my staff. Power was restored by 2:00pm,
:05:54. > :05:56.Southern Electric apologised and says its consulting residents to
:05:57. > :05:59.make improvements in future. But with more bad weather forecast
:06:00. > :06:02.for the next few days, environmental and transport teams in Oxfordshire
:06:03. > :06:08.and Buckinghamshire are standing by to deal with any further disruption.
:06:09. > :06:11.A teenager from Appleford near Didcot has become the youngest
:06:12. > :06:14.person ever to row across the Atlantic. 17`year`old Eoin
:06:15. > :06:18.Hartwright arrived on dry land with a hug from his Mum. Owen and three
:06:19. > :06:22.other crew members completed their 43 day adventure last night. They
:06:23. > :06:27.rowed 3,000 miles from the Canary Islands to Antigua.
:06:28. > :06:31.Football. Swindon drew 2`2 with Peterborough despite being down to
:06:32. > :06:35.ten men for the second half of the match. The game involved own goals
:06:36. > :06:39.from each side. Swindon's Jay McEveley was sent off 35 minutes in
:06:40. > :06:42.for serious foul play. That's it from us for now. Alexis is
:06:43. > :06:49.on the way with the weather forecast. Goodnight.
:06:50. > :06:54.Good evening. A quieter night to night with a few showers but drier
:06:55. > :06:59.periods as well and the wind will gradually ease. We are expecting
:07:00. > :07:02.lows of four or five Celsius. Tomorrow there will be bright spells
:07:03. > :07:06.to start the day but it will not stay that way. Heavy rain will
:07:07. > :07:10.arrive from the south in the afternoon and stay with us for much
:07:11. > :07:13.of the day. The Met office have an amber warning in force tomorrow
:07:14. > :07:18.afternoon and night. Temperatures tomorrow reach a high of seven
:07:19. > :07:22.degrees. The amber warning is in force tomorrow afternoon into the
:07:23. > :07:27.early hours of tomorrow morning full `` Friday morning. Another amber
:07:28. > :07:38.warning for Friday and Saturday. There could be gale
:07:39. > :07:43.As you have just heard, the little respite between one storm system and
:07:44. > :07:44.another
