:00:00. > 3:59:59life changing experience. The question is whether the Games will

:00:00. > :00:17.deliver a Good evening. Campaigners have

:00:18. > :00:20.described it as "all pain, no gain" but now officials in Buckinghamshire

:00:21. > :00:22.are calling on the Government to minimise the impact of the

:00:23. > :00:26.controversial high`speed rail line HS2. A series of requests to limit

:00:27. > :00:29.the effects of the railway have been endorsed by the county council. They

:00:30. > :00:33.include more tunnelling, a new relief road and designated areas to

:00:34. > :00:36.be protected. Our political reporter Helen Catt has more.

:00:37. > :00:38.If the HS2 projects remains on track, high`speed trains could be

:00:39. > :00:44.running through the Buckinghamshire countryside from 2026. That's not

:00:45. > :00:47.what local authorities want. But if they can't stop the line, they at

:00:48. > :00:51.least want to lessen its possible impact ` and have come up with a

:00:52. > :00:55.list of demands for government. Firstly, it says tunnelling

:00:56. > :00:58.shouldn't stop at Little Missenden. It wants the track to stay

:00:59. > :01:02.underground through the Chilterns to Wendover, at an estimated cost of

:01:03. > :01:06.?200 million. Further up the line, it wants a linear park to provide a

:01:07. > :01:11.sort of green buffer between Aylesbury and the train route. And

:01:12. > :01:15.in the north of the county, it wants a country park and a new station `

:01:16. > :01:18.not on this line but on the east`west rail link. The idea is to

:01:19. > :01:26.stop workers at a planned HS2 maintenance depot at Calvert from

:01:27. > :01:29.clogging up nearby roads. We think these are the minimum we should be

:01:30. > :01:37.accepted if we're going to have a through the Buckinghamshire

:01:38. > :01:43.countryside. Wherever you are, we want to see the very best protection

:01:44. > :01:46.because if this is a national piece of infrastructure that's going to

:01:47. > :01:49.cost something like ?50 million, we think spending a little bit on

:01:50. > :01:54.protecting the communities that are affected is money well spent. The

:01:55. > :01:57.council's is clear its overall position on HS2 has not changed,

:01:58. > :02:00.though. The best result, it says, would be if the line just wasn't

:02:01. > :02:04.built at all. The Swindon Town striker player Nile

:02:05. > :02:07.Ranger has gone on trial accused of rape. The 22`year`old, who is

:02:08. > :02:12.appearing before Newcastle Crown Court, denies the charge. Andrew

:02:13. > :02:16.Hartley reports. Nile Ranger arriving at Newcastle

:02:17. > :02:20.Crown Court with a companion. The trial was told that Mr Ranger and

:02:21. > :02:25.his alleged victim had been friends ` they had been in regular contact

:02:26. > :02:31.by text. They met at the Empress bar in Newcastle City Centre on a

:02:32. > :02:34.Tuesday night in January last year. The court heard the woman remembers

:02:35. > :02:38.dancing and drinking for the first hour of their date ` but has no

:02:39. > :02:43.memory of what happened until she woke the next morning in a bed in a

:02:44. > :02:50.hotel room with Mr Ranger lying next to her. The jury was shown CCTV

:02:51. > :02:53.footage of the woman and Mr Ranger arriving at this hotel in the

:02:54. > :02:59.Jesmond area of Newcastle in the small hours of Wednesday morning.

:03:00. > :03:03.The prosecution says the footage shows that the woman fell out of a

:03:04. > :03:08.taxi and was left lying on the pavement for some time before Mr

:03:09. > :03:11.Ranger assists her into the hotel. It's claimed this footage shows the

:03:12. > :03:16.woman was incapacitated through drink or drugs. The court heard that

:03:17. > :03:20.Mr Ranger admits having sex with the woman but says physical contact was

:03:21. > :03:28.totally consensual. He denies the charge of rape and the trial

:03:29. > :03:31.continues. Tributes have been paid to a

:03:32. > :03:33.17`year`old girl who died in a multi`vehicle crash in Waddesdon,

:03:34. > :03:38.which also left four children seriously injured. Laura Walden was

:03:39. > :03:42.in her final year at school and was planning to start university. She

:03:43. > :03:52.died last Thursday in a crash on the A41.

:03:53. > :03:54.An Oxford shopkeeper has been hospitalised following an armed

:03:55. > :03:57.robbery in Littlemore. Two men went into the newsagent's on the Cowley

:03:58. > :04:01.Road at around 12.30pm yesterday lunchtime. One had a large knife,

:04:02. > :04:04.the other was carrying a hammer. They fled on bicycles with the till.

:04:05. > :04:07.The newsagent suffered injuries to his arm and knee.

:04:08. > :04:11.A new adult mental health centre, costing more than forty million

:04:12. > :04:14.pounds, has opened in Aylesbury. The Whiteleaf Centre will take patients

:04:15. > :04:34.from three units in the town, which are being closed down. It will offer

:04:35. > :04:37.both inpatient care and outpatient therapies. It's purpose`designed to

:04:38. > :04:40.support patients and protect them from harm. Sinead Carroll reports.

:04:41. > :04:43.The centre is so new even the parking bays are freshly painted.

:04:44. > :04:46.And the building is the epitome of purpose`built. It's designed to

:04:47. > :04:55.minute detail ` there are no cords on blinds, or light switches, or

:04:56. > :04:57.shower curtains in the en suites. The hinges are particularly

:04:58. > :05:00.designed. For mental health buildings, you have to pay

:05:01. > :05:03.particular attention to every detail. Unions suggest that UK NHS

:05:04. > :05:07.mental`health services have faced 15% cuts over the past three years `

:05:08. > :05:11.so can Buckinghamshire NHS justify this multi`million`pound new

:05:12. > :05:15.building? There has been a history of mental health buildings being

:05:16. > :05:21.very institutional in nature and not functioning on modern treatments and

:05:22. > :05:26.privacy and dignity and space which people need to recover, if they have

:05:27. > :05:28.a serious mental health problem. What do those who've used, or worked

:05:29. > :05:32.in, other Buckinghamshire mental`health wards think of this

:05:33. > :05:36.new building? Any changes can be challenging but because these are

:05:37. > :05:41.such positive changes, I think it will definitely improve staff

:05:42. > :05:49.morale. It's more like a hotel. It makes you feel a lot happier. It was

:05:50. > :05:51.dingy where it was before. The final polish has begun ahead of first

:05:52. > :05:55.admissions on Wednesday. A woman from Oxfordshire has been

:05:56. > :05:58.ordained as a Bishop, but 12,000 miles away from home. The Reverend

:05:59. > :06:02.Helen`Ann Hartley trained at Ripon College at Cuddesdon. Because she

:06:03. > :06:08.can't become a Bishop in England she was ordained in New Zealand, where

:06:09. > :06:12.she's been living for two years. I hope that my ordination will be an

:06:13. > :06:15.inspiration to people everywhere but particularly to those in the Church

:06:16. > :06:19.of England, which nurtured my spiritual journey ` that they will

:06:20. > :06:24.be encouraged that this is a role that women and men can do equally.

:06:25. > :06:28.The Winter Olympics are over ` but did you know that, as with the

:06:29. > :06:30.summer Games, a Winter Paralympics follow? The Russian resort of Sochi

:06:31. > :06:34.staged a spectacular closing ceremony last night ` but the show

:06:35. > :06:36.goes on, with Winter Paralympics starting early next month. Today,

:06:37. > :06:39.schoolchildren in Great Missenden got to hold the Paralympic torch

:06:40. > :06:43.before a special event at Stoke Mandeville this weekend.

:06:44. > :06:48.That's it from us for now. The weather is next, starting with the

:06:49. > :06:54.regional forecast from Alexis, but, from the late news team here,

:06:55. > :06:56.goodnight. Rain at first denied that it will gradually ease through the

:06:57. > :07:01.early hours of the morning and it will be breezy with the rainfall, so

:07:02. > :07:06.some heavy bursts. The rain gradually eases eastwards armour

:07:07. > :07:09.followed by some scattered showers. Most places will start tomorrow on a

:07:10. > :07:15.dry note with temperatures very mild overnight. We are looking at a

:07:16. > :07:18.predominantly dry start to the day tomorrow. Showers will get going

:07:19. > :07:22.around the middle part of the morning and they could be heavy,

:07:23. > :07:26.perhaps thundery, with hail. There will be some sunshine and showers

:07:27. > :07:30.will last through most of the day. They will clear by the evening. Wind

:07:31. > :07:33.is fairly brisk. Here's the outlook. will be more rain overnight into

:07:34. > :07:42.Thursday. Good evening. We have a spell of wet

:07:43. > :07:46.and windy weather working across the British Isles. Today brought many of

:07:47. > :07:51.us some decent spells of sunshine and it brought us some decent

:07:52. > :07:58.temperatures. In fact, our warmest day of the year so far.

:07:59. > :08:04.At the moment, though, things have changed. This is the gap in the

:08:05. > :08:07.satellite picture. Now, this curl of cloud looks like a snail's shell, it

:08:08. > :08:11.is an area of low pressure that is sweeping wind and rain across us.

:08:12. > :08:15.It's pushed into the west already and is now making rapid progress

:08:16. > :08:21.eastwards, moving into eastern England through the small hours

:08:22. > :08:26.Strong, gusty winds around the Irish Sea coasts. The weather front will

:08:27. > :08:30.weaken as it gets into eastern areas. Behind the weather front

:08:31. > :08:34.things are a good deal clearer and that is the way we will start

:08:35. > :08:38.tomorrow. Our wet and windy weather, the worst of it is out of the way as

:08:39. > :08:45.we look at Tuesday. There will be some sunshine around, but there will

:08:46. > :08:46.be some hefty showers. First thing, a lot of
