:00:00. > :00:14.there's a first look at the papers over on the BBC News Channel,

:00:15. > :00:19.there's a first look at the papers Jimmy Savile abused people `t 2

:00:20. > :00:24.children's homes in Oxfordshire are to be investigated. Chipping Norton

:00:25. > :00:28.and Penhurst Schools closed last year. This is what's left of

:00:29. > :00:30.Penhurst School, closed by the charity that ran it because of

:00:31. > :00:35.funding. It's not being used as a school now,

:00:36. > :00:41.but Penhurst was based here for over 100 years. Towards the end, there

:00:42. > :00:43.were around 24 children herd, all of whom had profound learning

:00:44. > :00:49.disabilities. In fact, their needs were so great, it required lore than

:00:50. > :00:53.100 staff to work here full`time. What's known is that police have

:00:54. > :00:58.uncovered more allegations of sexual abuse by Jimmy Savile, one of which

:00:59. > :01:02.it's claimed took place herd. Police have previously said Jimmy

:01:03. > :01:05.Savile abused more than 200 people over 60 years. But the abusd

:01:06. > :01:10.allegations didn't come to light until after the former BBC presenter

:01:11. > :01:14.died in October 2011 at the age of 84.

:01:15. > :01:17.Action for Children are the charity that used to run the home and today

:01:18. > :01:34.it said: We know the charity has alrdady

:01:35. > :01:38.started that investigation darlier this week and so far it says it

:01:39. > :01:42.hasn't found any basis for the allegations. They know that one has

:01:43. > :01:47.been made to the police which has been passed to them.

:01:48. > :01:50.Today's announcement doesn't mean that abuse definitely happened here,

:01:51. > :01:54.it means an investigation's been launched into the allegations,

:01:55. > :02:00.another investigation into similar claims at Stoke Mandeville Hospital

:02:01. > :02:05.is still ongoing. Pf `. Thames Valley Police has been

:02:06. > :02:09.prized for how it trains its officers in handling domesthc aviews

:02:10. > :02:13.officers. A review says in Wiltshire, although effective work

:02:14. > :02:18.was going on, there were several areas for improvement. Serious

:02:19. > :02:21.concern was expressed about Gloucestershire where inspectors

:02:22. > :02:25.found the force were struck tolling help victims. Gloucestershire

:02:26. > :02:27.constabulary deals with 2,000 crimes related to domestic abuse every

:02:28. > :02:43.year. `` struggling to help victims. Domestic violence isn't just broken

:02:44. > :02:46.bones, there's mental abuse too Victims need to be given more

:02:47. > :02:50.information ability what's available. I would have left a lot

:02:51. > :02:54.sooner if I knew there was support and somewhere I could go. Domestic

:02:55. > :02:59.abuse charities say one of the key problems is the grass roots officers

:03:00. > :03:03.often don't recognise the shgns The specialist police officers who work

:03:04. > :03:07.out of the public protection bureau with very, very good and understand

:03:08. > :03:12.domestic abuse and the dynalics of it. We are not so sure that the

:03:13. > :03:15.average police officer going out has that understanding, so we'd like

:03:16. > :03:19.there to be much better trahning for police officers. We'd like to be

:03:20. > :03:26.involved in that training. We'd also like victims to be a big part of

:03:27. > :03:30.that training. In media interviews this morning,

:03:31. > :03:34.the Assistant Chief Constable welcomed the report and said the

:03:35. > :03:37.force has made significant changes. We are moving very quickly. There is

:03:38. > :03:41.a governance board that's bden set up to drive in some of the changes

:03:42. > :03:47.and people will be reassured that we'll have a very structured,

:03:48. > :03:51.fast`moving approach to delhvering the improvements. Charities say a

:03:52. > :03:54.lot of good work is going on and victims shouldn't be put off from

:03:55. > :03:57.coming forward as a result of today's report. Police say they ll

:03:58. > :04:00.look back to see if they've failed victims in the past but that since

:04:01. > :04:03.the inspection, those facing domestic abuse are now safer than

:04:04. > :04:07.ever before. A man's been questioned in

:04:08. > :04:11.connection with the sexual `ssault of an Oxford University student who

:04:12. > :04:16.posted a selfie of her injuries online. She was attacked whdn she

:04:17. > :04:20.confronted a man for touching her at the plush Lounge on Saturdax. The

:04:21. > :04:25.18`year`old man has been released on police bail. All secondary schools

:04:26. > :04:27.in Oxfordshire will soon have full`time school nurses. Thd county

:04:28. > :04:34.council is spending over ?1 million to make sure pupils can accdss a

:04:35. > :04:38.nurse from September. Have you got a second...

:04:39. > :04:42.Claire's been a school nursd here for six months. But she's bden a

:04:43. > :04:47.registered nurse for over 20 years. She holds one`to`one sessions like

:04:48. > :04:51.this every week day and says the job mainly focuses on providing

:04:52. > :04:57.emotional support. In a young teenage teenager, they

:04:58. > :05:01.have angst, we all had it growing up. My role here is very much

:05:02. > :05:04.dealing with emotional health. I feel so much more confident talking

:05:05. > :05:09.to Claire. She's like a second mum to me. Here at the Oxford academy,

:05:10. > :05:14.there's been a full`time school nurse on site since last September,

:05:15. > :05:19.but most schools in Oxfordshire Buckinghamshire and Wiltshire will

:05:20. > :05:22.son have access to one part`time, usually through drop`in sessions.

:05:23. > :05:26.From September though, that will change here in Oxfordshire. It's

:05:27. > :05:34.part of a new deal between Oxfordshire County Council `nd the

:05:35. > :05:38.Oxford health NHS Foundation Trust. The three`year contract is costing

:05:39. > :05:42.the council ?1.5 million. The level of school nurse support won't be as

:05:43. > :05:46.much in primary schools. We have to have invest in the future. The

:05:47. > :05:51.children are very much the future of Oxfordshire and public health is a

:05:52. > :05:57.great return on money. We would like to see this expansion into primary

:05:58. > :06:02.schools as well. You need to start somewhere and actually, teenagers

:06:03. > :06:05.are in a much better position to make the choices themselves, whereas

:06:06. > :06:09.primary school children are more guided by their parents.

:06:10. > :06:13.Long gone are the days when school nurses were only in charge of

:06:14. > :06:17.practical tasks such as immunisations and first`aid.

:06:18. > :06:21.It's hoped today's new move will provide young people with more

:06:22. > :06:29.advice on things like mental health, safe sex and the riskles of drinking

:06:30. > :06:32.alcohol or smoking. Several buildings could be

:06:33. > :06:35.demolished in Aylesbury to lake way for new shops, restaurants `nd

:06:36. > :06:39.housing. A planning application s been submitted to knock down part of

:06:40. > :06:42.the old county council offices. Empty police buildings could be

:06:43. > :06:45.demolished and replaced with car parking.

:06:46. > :06:47.The regional weather forecast is coming up. That is all from us

:06:48. > :07:01.tonight. Good night. The showers are more likely for

:07:02. > :07:05.southern areas and temperattres will fall to around three. We ard

:07:06. > :07:10.expecting a bit of mist and fog under clearing skies. A dry start

:07:11. > :07:13.for most tomorrow. The showdrs will get going through the coursd of the

:07:14. > :07:15.day. They could be heavy and thundery, particularly for the

:07:16. > :07:19.South`Eastern part of the country. Elsewhere, it will be mainlx dry

:07:20. > :07:23.with some sunshine and tempdratures will reach ten to 12. They `re on

:07:24. > :07:26.the up, as we head towards the weekend.

:07:27. > :07:31.Temperatures above their se`sonal average over the weekend. It should

:07:32. > :07:32.stay mainly dry. Hazy sunshhne at times.

:07:33. > :07:37.weather. Now the national forecast with Nick Miller.

:07:38. > :07:44.Hello, as winter becomes spring the atmosphere contains more energy The

:07:45. > :07:49.shower clouds grow taller. If conditions are right, you get

:07:50. > :07:54.thunder storms. There have been some today. Bob took this picture near

:07:55. > :07:59.London this afternoon. The spring flowers will appreciate the re turn

:08:00. > :08:04.return of warmth. Until then big showers to come, pushing in across

:08:05. > :08:08.south-west England - some hail and thunder. Sleet and snow on to the

:08:09. > :08:13.top of the moors. From Norfolk to coastal England into

:08:14. > :08:17.Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, one or two showers around. Where you are

:08:18. > :08:20.clear for a time, you will see a touch of frost here and there.

:08:21. > :08:21.Patchy mist and fog all
