:00:00. > :00:10.Good evening. Homeowners affected by Wellington. That is all from us.

:00:11. > :00:14.Good evening. Homeowners affected by the planned HS2 route are to be

:00:15. > :00:17.offered improved compensation. It includes those who don't want to

:00:18. > :00:21.sell their properties. But some people say the scheme doesn't go far

:00:22. > :00:25.enough. Stuart Tinworth reports Derek and his wife Margo can't see

:00:26. > :00:28.where HS2 will pass by their home, but they're already counting the

:00:29. > :00:33.cost. They say they've lost over ?20,000 of the value of thehr home.

:00:34. > :00:36.Despite an improved compens`tion package announced today, thdy are

:00:37. > :00:46.just outside of the distancd to really benefit. Will not get

:00:47. > :00:51.anything out of this. In fact, even if they gave us that money we still

:00:52. > :00:57.haven't sold the house so what price will resell it at. We may wdll have

:00:58. > :01:00.to drop another god knows how much. Ministers insist the new pax`out

:01:01. > :01:05.scheme is clear and fair. For people living the closest ` up to 60 metres

:01:06. > :01:08.from the line ` the governmdnt will now buy homes at their unblhghted

:01:09. > :01:11.market value plus 10% more. For those not wanting to sell, there

:01:12. > :01:20.will now be a cash compensation of 10% of the value of their home. It

:01:21. > :01:23.is important to try and preserve communities because we don't want to

:01:24. > :01:26.see the whole village is important to try and preserve communities

:01:27. > :01:28.because we don't want to sed the whole villages being blightdd by a

:01:29. > :01:32.mass exodus which could change the whole character. We are keen to help

:01:33. > :01:34.people who are staying as wdll as offering good compensation for those

:01:35. > :01:37.wishing to sell. Campaigners say nearly half a

:01:38. > :01:40.million homes will be affected. Already the government has bought

:01:41. > :01:44.just over 100 houses at the cost of nearly ?70 million.

:01:45. > :01:49.A man's been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman

:01:50. > :01:52.was stabbed in Aylesbury. She was flown to hospital with serious chest

:01:53. > :01:57.injuries after being assaulted in Friarscroft Way on Friday.

:01:58. > :02:01.The former greyhound track hn Oxford is now officially a conserv`tion

:02:02. > :02:05.area. The status was granted this evening. Campaigners say thd

:02:06. > :02:08.conservation order means it'll be harder for housing to be buhlt

:02:09. > :02:10.there. Plans for 200 homes have previously been rejected, btt the

:02:11. > :02:16.developers are challenging the decision. Part of the Didcot power

:02:17. > :02:18.station site has been sold off with homes and new businesses pl`nned for

:02:19. > :02:22.the area. A planning application is expected

:02:23. > :02:26.this autumn. There are calls for a changd in the

:02:27. > :02:29.law to make it harder for ptbs to be turned into mini supermarkets.

:02:30. > :02:38.Oxford City Council wants local communities to have a better chance

:02:39. > :02:42.of taking them over instead. Pints have been served at the Bull

:02:43. > :02:46.Inn in Great Milton for centuries, but last year it nearly closed down.

:02:47. > :02:49.There was talk of the pub bding sold and converted into houses btt local

:02:50. > :02:55.people got together and bought it themselves, calling it a victory for

:02:56. > :03:02.the village. It was massively important as evidenced by the

:03:03. > :03:05.financial support and custolers who came back who hadn't been using it.

:03:06. > :03:08.Now people had a vested intdrest and it is a much more popular vdnue than

:03:09. > :03:13.it was before. Other pubs have disappeared. What

:03:14. > :03:21.was the Fox and Hound, is one of six pubs in Oxford bought by Tescos We

:03:22. > :03:28.would rather it had stayed `s a pub. Practically, I confess we are

:03:29. > :03:30.finding it useful. If they `re taking custom away from inddpendent

:03:31. > :03:32.businesses it is not such a good idea.

:03:33. > :03:36.Oxford City Council wants to stop this trend, and is calling on the

:03:37. > :03:41.government to give it greatdr control over changes to the uses of

:03:42. > :03:47.pubs. We are keen to maintahn the local pub in the local area as a

:03:48. > :03:52.community asset. We are keen to save those which our heritage assets in

:03:53. > :03:58.their communities. The council accepts some pubs may

:03:59. > :04:05.not have a future, but before any owners can change the use of a pub

:04:06. > :04:08.it wants the public to be consulted. Thames Water says it's removed what

:04:09. > :04:11.it calls a "fatberg" from a sewer in the centre of Oxford.

:04:12. > :04:14.The congealed grease has bedn blasted away with a high prdssure

:04:15. > :04:18.water jet. The pipe has to be replaced, but the road will re`open

:04:19. > :04:21.ahead of schedule at the wedkend. The ambition of two friends to row

:04:22. > :04:24.across part of the Pacific ocean together could shed more light on

:04:25. > :04:27.Parkinson's disease. Alex Flynn from Goring has the condition.

:04:28. > :04:30.Researchers in Oxford want to compare the way the two men's bodies

:04:31. > :04:33.respond to the challenge. Adina Campbell reports.

:04:34. > :04:37.Two men and more than two thousand miles ahead of them. Alex and Darren

:04:38. > :04:41.have been friends for more than 25 years but they'll be a test to their

:04:42. > :04:45.friendship when they row across the Pacific Ocean in a couple of months.

:04:46. > :04:49.And there's one big difference between them ` Alex was diagnosed

:04:50. > :04:52.with Parkinson's six years `go. Despite being on medication and

:04:53. > :05:03.coping with side effects, lhke rigidity, he's been pushing his body

:05:04. > :05:08.to the limits. Quite honestly, diagnosis doesn't necessarily limit

:05:09. > :05:13.you. You can keep pushing the envelope of how far you can go even

:05:14. > :05:16.it is incrementally in small bits. Even if your challenge is gdtting

:05:17. > :05:19.across the room, that is yotr ever rest. With dozens of marathons under

:05:20. > :05:22.his belt, Alex has been trahning since last Summer for his ndxt

:05:23. > :05:27.gruelling challenge ` rowing from California to Hawaii ` which could

:05:28. > :05:29.take up to 80 days. But he's not doing it alone. Alex managed to

:05:30. > :05:32.persuade Oxfordshire firefighter Darren Taylor to be his rowhng

:05:33. > :05:44.partner, which meant Darren quitting his job. I joined the service to

:05:45. > :05:49.help people and I see this `s a way to help type `` tens of thotsands

:05:50. > :05:52.across the world. Alex and Darren are also taking part in a ndw

:05:53. > :05:54.physical challenge, a research project by Oxford Brookes

:05:55. > :05:58.University. The headcap and arm studs here are being used to monitor

:05:59. > :06:00.Alex's brain activity. This will help to understand how people with

:06:01. > :06:12.Parkinson's cope physically and emotionally under intense exercise.

:06:13. > :06:16.The study will provide a unhque opportunity to provide `` study to

:06:17. > :06:20.people, one with the mind whthout Parkinson's, and see the impact of

:06:21. > :06:23.the exercise on their health. They still need raise ?15,000 before

:06:24. > :06:24.they set off for their rowing challenge. They're hoping months of

:06:25. > :06:32.hard work won't go to waste. Before we go, if you're wondering

:06:33. > :06:36.why our studio looks differdnt, it's because we're in a temporarx one

:06:37. > :06:39.while a new one is fitted. There'll be daily updates of the progress on

:06:40. > :06:42.the Local Live section of the BBC Oxford website. That's it from us.

:06:43. > :07:05.Goodnight. A touch of frost in the

:07:06. > :07:10.countryside. Tomorrow, the best of any sunny spells during the morning

:07:11. > :07:17.and increasing cloud through the afternoon. It may bring the odd

:07:18. > :07:26.shower later on in the day. It moves southwards across the region. Light

:07:27. > :07:32.wind tomorrow. Looking ahead, high pressure begins to build from the

:07:33. > :07:34.Atlantic. Turning settled whth sunshine at times.

:07:35. > :07:42.weekend. If you are travelling further afield here is a look at the

:07:43. > :07:49.National pig genome. -- National picture.

:07:50. > :07:50.Most of us will be dry and bright with some sunshine coming through.

:07:51. > :07:51.That
