:00:00. > :00:15.Good evening. The Mayor of Swindon BBC2 in a few moments, Jeremy

:00:16. > :00:18.Good evening. The Mayor of Swindon has resigned after being reported

:00:19. > :00:22.for making derogatory remarks about people with Down's syndrome.

:00:23. > :00:29.Conservative Nick Martin was found guilty of breaching a members' code

:00:30. > :00:32.of conduct. He's apologised and has now stood down as Mayor` but

:00:33. > :00:49.protestors are calling for him to leave the council too. Scott Ellis

:00:50. > :00:52.reports. Swindon's Mayor was at a training day at the civic offices in

:00:53. > :00:59.Swindon last October, learning about the abuse faced by people with

:01:00. > :01:05.disabilities. At first, Councillor Martin denied making the comments.

:01:06. > :01:10.BBC Wiltshire interviewed him in March. A standards panel found the

:01:11. > :01:21.mayor had breached the code of conduct. He's apologised ` as

:01:22. > :01:35.requested ` and has agreed to undergo training. But today in a

:01:36. > :01:38.letter to the Council, he said "It is with regret that I submit my

:01:39. > :01:42.resignation as Mayor of the Borough of Swindon with immediate effect."

:01:43. > :01:46.And ` refering to the apologies ` he added. "it is clear that this will

:01:47. > :01:51.not stop the attacks on the Office and person of Mayor. Therefore, I

:01:52. > :01:53.deem it best for the people of Swindon to resign." Disability

:01:54. > :01:59.camapigners welcome his resignation, saying his remarks expose a

:02:00. > :02:03.deep`seated ignorance. Disabled people are having sex like everyone

:02:04. > :02:09.else around the country. It is no 1's business. There are local

:02:10. > :02:13.elections next month. Swindon's Tories are defending a one seat

:02:14. > :02:24.majority. Opponents say the Mayor should now resign as a councillor.

:02:25. > :02:48.He says he has no intention of leaving politics The former Radio

:02:49. > :02:57.One and BBC Three Counties DJ Dave Lee Travis has been charged with one

:02:58. > :03:00.court of indecent assault. The 68`year`old presenter ` who lives

:03:01. > :03:04.near Wingrave in Buckinghamhsire ` was cleared of 12 indecent assaults

:03:05. > :03:06.last month. He has been bailed until April, when he'll appear before

:03:07. > :03:10.magistrates in Westminster. A women in Bicester's been taken to hospital

:03:11. > :03:13.` after a car crashed into the shop she was working in. It happened on

:03:14. > :03:16.Bassett Avenue this morning from where Jeremy Stern sent this

:03:17. > :03:21.report... We had the buying and Russia to see what was happening and

:03:22. > :03:24.crowds of people were shopping so we went across the board to have a look

:03:25. > :03:35.and see what had happened and there was a car inside the shop with fire

:03:36. > :03:41.engines and Angela `` ambulances. The driver had cuts and bruises and

:03:42. > :03:55.was treated by paramedics. A member of staff was taken to hospital

:03:56. > :03:59.discharge this afternoon. `` but was discharged this afternoon. An Oxford

:04:00. > :04:02.woman is pushing the government to change the law to protect house

:04:03. > :04:14.buyers from something called 'ghost gazumping'. Kate Astley was only

:04:15. > :04:17.days away from getting on the property ladder when the seller of

:04:18. > :04:21.her new home called to say the price had just gone up by ?13,000` even

:04:22. > :04:24.though there were not other interested parties. Now she wants

:04:25. > :04:27.the government to ensure both buyers and sellers share the costs and

:04:28. > :04:31.risks that come with purchasing a property. I want there to be a small

:04:32. > :04:33.agreement put in place at the beginning of the conveyancing

:04:34. > :04:37.process which shares the risk between the buyer and the seller. It

:04:38. > :04:40.means that when the buyer puts in money, if the seller does not go

:04:41. > :04:45.through with the sale they are liable for that payment. If they

:04:46. > :04:48.have done it in bad faith. Improvements to health services in

:04:49. > :04:56.Buckinghamshire have made them much safer for patients ` according to a

:04:57. > :04:59.new review. The county's hospitals were placed in special measures last

:05:00. > :05:02.year ` following a damning report into fourteen NHS trusts across the

:05:03. > :05:05.country. Today officials have been explaining what changes have been

:05:06. > :05:09.made ` and what lessons have been learnt. Here's Victoria Cook. It was

:05:10. > :05:12.a report that came as a severe blow to Buckinghamshire Health Care NHS

:05:13. > :05:15.Trust. Numerous examples of poor care and nursing standards, a list

:05:16. > :05:19.of worrying problems, not least that more people were dying out of hours

:05:20. > :05:22.because of a lack of staff. Work on rectifying the situation started

:05:23. > :05:25.quickly. It is now nine months later and the review of what has changed

:05:26. > :05:28.has been completed. Health bosses have been in the building behind me

:05:29. > :05:32.answering serious questions about improvements. They say they have

:05:33. > :05:36.invested more money and employed more staff, more people with the

:05:37. > :05:39.right skills working at the right time of day. The result, they said,

:05:40. > :05:42.is that fewer people have died. Overall the Trust says things are

:05:43. > :05:45.improving at hospitals in Buckinghamshire. Hospital infections

:05:46. > :05:48.like MRSA and C. Difficile have been reduced. The number of patients

:05:49. > :06:05.dying at weekends has gone down over the last three years. But there is

:06:06. > :06:08.still work to be done. We have to ensure there is the right health

:06:09. > :06:11.delivery for the residents of Buckinghamshire, bearing in mind the

:06:12. > :06:20.national changes that all of these trusts have to make throughout the

:06:21. > :06:24.country. The real test will be in two months when the results of a new

:06:25. > :06:29.inspection carried out just a few weeks ago will be published. One of

:06:30. > :06:35.Oxfordshire's busiest roads is to close over the summer for

:06:36. > :06:39.resurfacing. A section of the A420 near Shrivenham will be shut for

:06:40. > :06:42.seven weeks from July 21st. The Council says they'll put weight

:06:43. > :06:43.limits in place and have diversions signposted while the road is

:06:44. > :06:49.reconstructed. . For now, goodnight reconstructed. . For now, goodnight

:06:50. > :06:56.I'll leave you with the weather` here's Alexis Green.

:06:57. > :07:01.We are looking at temperatures in our towns and cities of down to two

:07:02. > :07:07.degrees of four degrees Celsius and in country areas towards the

:07:08. > :07:14.freezing mark. Tomorrow will be very like today with lots of sunshine and

:07:15. > :07:25.in the sunshine it will be pleasantly warm with a high of 14 or

:07:26. > :07:29.possibly 15 Celsius 50... As we head towards Friday, it brightens June

:07:30. > :07:35.the day. And over the National hopefully warmer. This is a summary

:07:36. > :07:42.and the look at the National forecast.

:07:43. > :07:46.The sun has set on another beautiful day. Like last night, temperatures

:07:47. > :07:51.have taken a nosedive this evening. It will be a cold night for the

:07:52. > :07:55.middle of April. Temperature is well down into single figures in towns

:07:56. > :08:00.and cities. Across eastern England in rural spots, close to freezing.

:08:01. > :08:04.We are expecting another frost across many parts of England and

:08:05. > :08:07.where. For Northern Ireland and Scotland, temperatures were covering

:08:08. > :08:14.later in the night but for most of us, a cold but sunny start. The last

:08:15. > :08:17.one for a while. We will see cloud increasing across Northern Ireland

:08:18. > :08:21.and Scotland, the breeze freshening and rain heading into the far

:08:22. > :08:27.north-west. Further south, a sunny day for most of England and Wales.

:08:28. > :08:31.Clouds are rare and temperatures will bounce back nicely. On the

:08:32. > :08:36.coastal fringes, quite cool. The breeze will have an edge to it.

:08:37. > :08:40.Inland, warming up nicely and former than today in some places across

:08:41. > :08:43.southeastern England. For Northern Ireland and Scotland it will be a

:08:44. > :08:47.cooler day than today with the breeze increasing and cloud and

:08:48. > :08:48.rain, particularly for the
