:02:25. > :02:26.route of HS2 including one lady from Buckinghamshire. It will blight

:02:27. > :02:31.where we live. We moved to the countryside and now it will be only

:02:32. > :02:35.half a mile up from us. It'll be good at all the politicians voted

:02:36. > :02:41.against it. But we have not had much help from our one. There we go. You

:02:42. > :02:46.know, these people want to protect their jobs, don't they? This debate

:02:47. > :02:52.will go on well into the evening. What are we expecting? It certainly

:02:53. > :02:56.will. One MP suggested they sit carry on until midnight. It is true

:02:57. > :03:00.to say that many MPs want to have their say on this crucial debate.

:03:01. > :03:06.Including one leading rebel from this area. I afraid I will always be

:03:07. > :03:10.a sceptic about this project, but if it is going to go ahead and that is

:03:11. > :03:15.what democracy and Parliamentary democracy is about, then I want the

:03:16. > :03:21.best yield for our environment. The debate is going on as we speak. We

:03:22. > :03:26.expect MPs to vote around 11pm. The vote is expected to be in favour.

:03:27. > :03:32.After all, this bill does have cross`party support, despite the

:03:33. > :03:35.rebels, and it will probably go through. The scrutiny process will

:03:36. > :03:37.be expected to last for several months.

:03:38. > :03:40.Wiltshire Police say they're talking to Swindon Town footballer Nile

:03:41. > :03:43.Ranger after being shown CCTV pictures which appear to include

:03:44. > :03:48.footage of a woman being assaulted outside his home. The footage was

:03:49. > :03:57.given to police by a Sunday newspaper. The player has been

:03:58. > :04:03.summoned to a disciplinary hearing later this week. Scott Ellis

:04:04. > :04:07.reports. The 6'2" striker signed up with Swindon Town last year.

:04:08. > :04:09.The former Premiership player moved into a penthouse flat in this

:04:10. > :04:15.apartment block in the centre of Swindon. A security camera video

:04:16. > :04:21.handed to the police shows a man trying to break down a communal door

:04:22. > :04:26.in the early hours of Sunday, April 13 at the apartment block. He can be

:04:27. > :04:32.seen taking the door. The footage also shows the man hitting a woman

:04:33. > :04:38.twice with his right hand, before a third blow. Police have confirmed

:04:39. > :04:43.tonight that Nile Ranger has handed himself in to the police station in

:04:44. > :04:50.Swindon and is currently being questioned in connection with the

:04:51. > :04:55.alleged assault. And ?2000 worth of criminal damage to a lift door, a

:04:56. > :04:58.wall and a glass panel at the apartment block. Police officers are

:04:59. > :05:06.also appealing for the women to get into contact. There has not been any

:05:07. > :05:13.statement today from Swindon Town football club, but they said they

:05:14. > :05:19.deplore any acts of violence and are appalled that this latest incident.

:05:20. > :05:22.Senior officials at the club have met today to discuss the incident

:05:23. > :05:28.and is due to be discussions tonight and tomorrow about Nile Ranger's

:05:29. > :05:31.future at the club. A man is wanted for questioning by

:05:32. > :05:35.police over the attempted abduction of a woman in Milton Keynes. An

:05:36. > :05:38.e`fit image has been released. It's claimed the man drove his car

:05:39. > :05:41.alongside her as the woman walked along the pavement in New Bradwell.

:05:42. > :05:45.He repeatedly asked her to get into his car before grabbing her by the

:05:46. > :05:49.waist and attempting to pull her inside. She screamed and, as people

:05:50. > :05:53.came out from a nearby pub, the man drove off. His car is described is

:05:54. > :05:55.dark blue, and may have been a Ford Mondeo.

:05:56. > :05:57.The Green Party has launched its European and local election

:05:58. > :06:00.campaigns and manifesto today. The party's leader, Natalie Bennett,

:06:01. > :06:03.said the Greens were serious contenders, with their largest ever

:06:04. > :06:06.number of candidates standing to be local councillors. The party is also

:06:07. > :06:09.confident it can increase its current tally of two MEPs. The

:06:10. > :06:17.Greens are fielding a candidate for every available UK seat.

:06:18. > :06:21.A vote for the Greens in this election is a thought for an economy

:06:22. > :06:26.that works for everyone, not just the richest. It is a vote for jobs

:06:27. > :06:31.to build a life on and a cap on bankers' bonuses. Rather than a race

:06:32. > :06:34.to the bottom on wages and tax breaks for the wealthiest.

:06:35. > :06:37.Meanwhile, the UKIP leader Nigel Farage will outline his party's

:06:38. > :06:40.ambitions for the South East region at a political rally tonight. TV

:06:41. > :06:44.crews have come from across the continent to hear him speaking on

:06:45. > :06:47.his home turf. It's likely to be one of the largest political rallies to

:06:48. > :06:51.be held at Portsmouth's Guildhall for years. Up to 800 people are

:06:52. > :06:53.expected to attend, with the UKIP leader suggesting it's because

:06:54. > :07:01.attitudes toward Europe are changing.

:07:02. > :07:05.It is looking like it is a lot more of a protest `` a lot more than the

:07:06. > :07:09.protest vote. If you ask people why they vote for UKIP, yes, it is

:07:10. > :07:12.true, they are contemptuous of free political parties that are a lot to

:07:13. > :07:17.this country without asking opinions. But it is not just that.

:07:18. > :07:21.They agree with what we stand for. And over the coming days, we expect

:07:22. > :07:24.to hear from more of the main political parties as they launch

:07:25. > :07:26.their European and local election campaigns.

:07:27. > :07:29.It's a type of fraud that's become known as "crash for cash" ` the act

:07:30. > :07:32.of deliberately causing road accidents in order to claim

:07:33. > :07:35.compensation from insurance companies. Three years ago, an

:07:36. > :07:40.attempted scam in Buckinghamshire led to an innocent woman being

:07:41. > :07:43.killed. Thames Valley Police this month became the first force to lead

:07:44. > :07:46.a successful prosecution over that case. Tonight, the investigation is

:07:47. > :07:49.being featured on the BBC's Crimewatch programme. As Stuart

:07:50. > :07:52.Tinworth reports, although justice has been done, the victim's family

:07:53. > :07:55.are still struggling to come to terms with what happened.

:07:56. > :08:05.She was a lovely daughter and she was full of life. But she is gone

:08:06. > :08:08.now. Avtar Lalli paying tribute to his

:08:09. > :08:15.daughter, an innocent driver caught up in a crash for cash scam on the

:08:16. > :08:19.A40, just outside London. It was June 2011 when the Polish gang used

:08:20. > :08:25.two cars to engineer a collision. Baljinder Gill, driving behind them,

:08:26. > :08:29.crashed as a consequence. As she got out to inspect the damage to her

:08:30. > :08:33.car, she was struck by another motorist ` not part of the gang `

:08:34. > :08:37.who was driving this van. The moment was witnessed by passengers on a

:08:38. > :08:41.passing coach. Their horror all too clear.

:08:42. > :08:51.For me, there is no life without her. When a person is gone, they

:08:52. > :08:57.never come back. It is only memories with us. I miss her a lot. Seven

:08:58. > :09:00.people have now been brought to justice in connection with

:09:01. > :09:05.Baljinder's death. Three gang members were sentenced earlier this

:09:06. > :09:11.year. One of the men appearing at Reading Crown Court this month was

:09:12. > :09:15.handed nine years in prison. As the police service, it is really

:09:16. > :09:18.important to make sure that we leave no stone unturned in trying to

:09:19. > :09:22.investigate such serious matters as these. We will investigate it, we

:09:23. > :09:28.will find you and we will bring you to justice. It is thought crash for

:09:29. > :09:31.cash incidents cost nearly ?400 million a year, with one in seven

:09:32. > :09:36.insurance claims linked to such scams. This is the first time

:09:37. > :09:43.somebody has died as a result, but officers warn it may not be the

:09:44. > :09:46.last. And you can see much more on this

:09:47. > :09:56.story in the full Crimewatch programme on BBC One tonight at nine

:09:57. > :10:00.o'clock. Work started on converting part of Bicester the UK's first

:10:01. > :10:05.eco`town. Developers have begun digging up land on the outskirts of

:10:06. > :10:08.the town. Part of the site will initially be turned into a temporary

:10:09. > :10:12.work base for staff including Portakabins and a canteen. Once the

:10:13. > :10:15.project is complete ` due to be by 2019 ` councillors say it will be an

:10:16. > :10:18.energy`efficient community with thousands of new homes. But some

:10:19. > :10:21.campaigners claim Bicester isn't ready for such a big increase in

:10:22. > :10:25.housing. It is based on eco`credentials, so

:10:26. > :10:29.very much in line with the ambitions for Bicester. It should create a

:10:30. > :10:32.committee that people will want to work and live in. We are looking for

:10:33. > :10:38.economic development such as jobs, so people will commute in and they

:10:39. > :10:42.can live in and work in the same area. If you would like to get in

:10:43. > :10:49.touch with us at South Today, you can e`mail us. Our address and

:10:50. > :10:53.contact details are on screen. That's all from me for the moment.

:10:54. > :10:57.I'll have the headlines at eight and a full bulletin at 10.25. Now let's

:10:58. > :11:10.get more of today's stories with Sally Taylor.

:11:11. > :11:13.country and the UK are similar in what they want to do. Still to come

:11:14. > :11:17.in this evening's South Today: last minute heartbreak after an unbeaten

:11:18. > :11:20.season ` the Surrey Storm blows out. The BBC wildlife presenter Chris

:11:21. > :11:23.Packham, who lives in the New Forest, has been talking about his

:11:24. > :11:27.questioning by police in Malta while he was making a documentary about

:11:28. > :11:30.the killing of migratory birds on the island. It followed complaints

:11:31. > :11:33.by a group of hunters that the Springwatch presenter and his crew

:11:34. > :11:44.had trespassed and breached their privacy when they began to film

:11:45. > :11:49.them. James Ingham reports. Confronting the hunters head on. In

:11:50. > :11:54.Malta, it is legal to shoot limited numbers of certain birds in the

:11:55. > :12:03.spring. But it is a practice Chris Pack wants to stop. `` Chris Packham

:12:04. > :12:07.wants to stop. He says it is wiping out populations of migrating birds.

:12:08. > :12:18.Listen. You can hear a robin, a Wren. It is springtime, these foods

:12:19. > :12:22.are alive `` these woodlands are alive. I did not hear a cuckoo last

:12:23. > :12:30.year for the first time in my life. They are being shot in Malta as we

:12:31. > :12:34.speak. Chris was questioned by Maltese police after complaints from

:12:35. > :12:39.the shooting lobby. He was released without charge and has continued his

:12:40. > :12:44.campaign. He commented on a particular low point of his trip.

:12:45. > :12:50.The worst point of all was when I had to help a vet euthanise a

:12:51. > :12:54.Montagu's Harrier. They are national treasures when they are here. I help

:12:55. > :12:59.this bird and looked into its size. It was beautiful. Valuable. I had to

:13:00. > :13:07.hold it whilst this that put it down. It was heartbreaking. I shed a

:13:08. > :13:10.tear. Maltese authorities do not deny that illegal shooting is

:13:11. > :13:16.happening but they insist it is being controlled better than ever

:13:17. > :13:22.before. The situation has improved dramatically over the last few

:13:23. > :13:26.years. We have the highest ratio of deployment of enforcement personnel

:13:27. > :13:32.per square kilometre of countryside in Europe. Chris Packham remains

:13:33. > :13:37.unconvinced. He is working with MEPs to put pressure on the island to end

:13:38. > :13:43.what he calls its massacre on migration.

:13:44. > :13:46.The trial of a Weymouth councillor accused of several sexual offences

:13:47. > :13:49.against a child has begun. Ryan Hope, who's 22, was a Liberal

:13:50. > :13:54.Democrat councillor in the Dorset town. He's currently an independent.

:13:55. > :14:01.He denies all the charges. Ed Sherry was in Bournemouth Crown Court.

:14:02. > :14:05.The trial began here Bournemouth Crown Court earlier this morning.

:14:06. > :14:09.Ryan Hope arrived wearing sunglasses to face nine charges, including

:14:10. > :14:16.those of rape and sexual assault against a child aged under 30. The

:14:17. > :14:21.alleged incident took race between 2004 and 2011, when the victim was

:14:22. > :14:25.aged between nine and 16. The alleged victim said how he would

:14:26. > :14:29.come to his room at night before taking him to another part of the

:14:30. > :14:35.house where he was made to watch pornography and the assaults took

:14:36. > :14:42.place. He said to him, get off me, leave me alone. The court heard of

:14:43. > :14:49.another incident where the victim was driven to a promoter area

:14:50. > :14:52.between Weymouth and another town. The prosecution told the court that

:14:53. > :14:56.the alleged that did not complain about the incident at the time

:14:57. > :15:01.because she was scared his mother would not believe him. He also said

:15:02. > :15:08.he thought people would think you were stupid and he was concerned

:15:09. > :15:16.about Ryan Hope's position as a councillor. Ryan Hope denies all the

:15:17. > :15:21.charges against him. The case is expected to last until next week.

:15:22. > :15:24.Police in Sussex are making a fresh appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch

:15:25. > :15:28.programme for information about the suspected murder of a woman in West

:15:29. > :15:32.Sussex. The body of Valerie Graves was found at a property in Bosham in

:15:33. > :15:35.December. She had been house sitting over the Christmas period. One

:15:36. > :15:39.person arrested on suspicion of her murder was released last month.

:15:40. > :15:42.No`one has been charged. A little earlier, I spoke to Detective

:15:43. > :15:46.Superintendent Nick May of Sussex Police and began by asking him what

:15:47. > :15:53.the thrust of the appeal would be tonight.

:15:54. > :16:00.What we are appealing for tonight is that we have found a hammer that was

:16:01. > :16:04.responsible for was involved in the murder of Valerie Graves. What we're

:16:05. > :16:07.looking for his assistance from numbers of the public who may have

:16:08. > :16:12.lost or had stolen a hammer immediately before the 29th of

:16:13. > :16:22.December. It is very distinctive, it is black and red and can be brought

:16:23. > :16:27.widely `` board widely via Screwfix. Where is the investigation at the

:16:28. > :16:29.moment? I still have a large team of detectives working on the

:16:30. > :16:34.investigation. We are working closely with the family. We have

:16:35. > :16:39.taken a huge number of statements, spoken to a large number of

:16:40. > :16:43.witnesses and people living in the area. We are making good progress.

:16:44. > :16:50.What I am looking for tonight is some specific help around the hammer

:16:51. > :16:54.and some specific help around people who have suspicions about someone

:16:55. > :16:57.they know. Something more on that last part, be want help on the

:16:58. > :17:02.hammer. You have explained that. What else are you looking for this

:17:03. > :17:07.evening? We believe that the person who was responsible for the murder

:17:08. > :17:11.of Valerie Graves is likely to have a history of violence and we are

:17:12. > :17:17.looking for help from members of the public who may know that person or

:17:18. > :17:21.may know a person that they suspect, either in a personal capacity for in

:17:22. > :17:27.a professional capacity. We are looking for them to come forward to

:17:28. > :17:32.us tonight in order for us to help Valerie's family. Thank you for

:17:33. > :17:38.joining us. And you can see that appeal on Crimewatch, which begins

:17:39. > :17:45.at 9pm tonight on BBC One. Onto sport. Tony is here with us.

:17:46. > :17:57.The Saints. The plaudits keep coming. They have had no concrete

:17:58. > :18:03.offers for two of their players. there is pressure to keep players

:18:04. > :18:05.like that. Fingers crossed that they can keep them.

:18:06. > :18:09.Southampton's Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw have both been named in the

:18:10. > :18:13.Premier League team of the year. The pair become the first Saints players

:18:14. > :18:15.to be named in the team, which is chosen by fellow professionals,

:18:16. > :18:19.since Wayne Bridge 12 years ago. Meanwhile, both helped saints to a

:18:20. > :18:22.2`0 win over Everton on Saturday. Two own goals proved the difference.

:18:23. > :18:25.It means the club has now equalled its highest`ever Premier League

:18:26. > :18:29.points tally of 52. Those fans are happy.

:18:30. > :18:33.Let's see how our other teams got on in the Football League.

:18:34. > :18:37.Reading moved up to fifth place in the Championship after coming from

:18:38. > :18:50.behind to win at Doncaster. A penalty from Adam Le Fondre and

:18:51. > :18:56.While the first was controversial, there was nobody to blame for the

:18:57. > :19:00.second goal. Lacklustre defending allowed James Gray to double the

:19:01. > :19:05.lead and that was the decisive goal. Ryan Williams pulled one back for

:19:06. > :19:08.United but there was to equalise. There was brewing for that air one

:19:09. > :19:15.at the final whistle. There is work to do this summer. Swindon are also

:19:16. > :19:19.finishing with a whimper. They went a goal down in LA honour Notts

:19:20. > :19:24.County. They scored inside ten minutes and that is how it remained

:19:25. > :19:34.until a dramatic end to the match at Meadow Lane. Swindon were registered

:19:35. > :19:45.to nine men. Swindon piled everyone followed in stoppage time. There was

:19:46. > :19:50.heartbreak for the MK Dons. The visitors went down to ten men.

:19:51. > :19:59.Despite the numerical disadvantage, it became 2`0 with 11 minutes to

:20:00. > :20:00.play. The defence then went AWOL. The Millers got a share of the

:20:01. > :20:12.spoils. hoping Wigan drop points when they

:20:13. > :20:16.play away at Birmingham tomorrow. Just one point now separating all

:20:17. > :20:20.three teams as we head into the final week of the league season.

:20:21. > :20:23.In cricket, Hampshire batsman James Vince continues to stake his claim

:20:24. > :20:27.for an England call`up, with another century. With day two largely

:20:28. > :20:32.affected by the rain, Vince still managed to move on to 118 not out.

:20:33. > :20:39.Hampshire ended on 289 for three as they aim to maintain their unbeaten

:20:40. > :20:41.start to the season. The rain is affecting the early stages of the

:20:42. > :20:44.cricket season. In Division One, at Hove, Somerset posted a first

:20:45. > :20:47.innings score of 372 against Sussex. Marcus Trescothick with a century

:20:48. > :20:56.and Chris Jordan taking five wickets. Surrey were 25 for one at

:20:57. > :20:59.the close. Surrey Storm lost Netball's

:21:00. > :21:02.Superleague title in heartbreaking fashion, losing out to Manchester

:21:03. > :21:04.Thunder in the last few seconds. Storm were favourites to claim the

:21:05. > :21:08.silverware after an impressive unbeaten season and were ahead with

:21:09. > :21:11.under a minute to go. But, after drawing level, Helen Housby then won

:21:12. > :21:15.it for Thunder, the ball dropping in as the clock struck zero, leaving

:21:16. > :21:21.Storm no time to respond. 49`48 the final score. A great disappointment

:21:22. > :21:24.there stop but they have had a great season.

:21:25. > :21:27.A broken finger proved no problem for Hayling Island's Eilidh McIntyre

:21:28. > :21:30.as she and Weymouth's Sophie Weguelin won a silver medal at the

:21:31. > :21:33.Sailing World Cup. McIntyre was competing only a week after having a

:21:34. > :21:37.pin removed following a training accident. The pair won silver in the

:21:38. > :21:39.470 class on the final day of the event in France.

:21:40. > :21:42.Dorset's Olympic show`jumper, William Fox`Pitt, won the first

:21:43. > :21:45.major of the year in Kentucky, his third title there in five years.

:21:46. > :21:51.Riding Bay My Hero, the Sturminster Newton based eventer HAD to jump the

:21:52. > :21:54.final phase clear to win. And he did just that ` Fox`Pitt, nicknamed Mr

:21:55. > :22:06.Cool, left the fences untouched to take the title. We mentioned Late

:22:07. > :22:14.Kick Off. That is tonight at 11:30pm on BBC One. The... Will be with us

:22:15. > :22:19.as a guest. Fans will be interested to hear what he has to say about the

:22:20. > :22:25.class of 2014. We will have his thoughts on that as well from

:22:26. > :22:34.11:30pm tonight for online play. `` or on iPlayer. If you got out at the

:22:35. > :22:39.right time, you might get some sunshine. But it was pouring down.

:22:40. > :22:43.You are talking about the cricket being put off yet again. We have the

:22:44. > :22:48.same scenario. The showers might not be quite so heavy. It is quite muddy

:22:49. > :22:57.as well. `` humid.

:22:58. > :23:00.Let us take a look at the pictures. Nick Lucas captured tulips in the

:23:01. > :23:03.rain in his garden in Ashley Heath in Dorset.

:23:04. > :23:04.Hilary Davison took this photo of the bluebells at Stansted House in

:23:05. > :23:14.Hampshire. And a wet walk for Cheryl Horton and

:23:15. > :23:17.her dog at Emer Bog near Romsey. We are expected in a fume or

:23:18. > :23:22.showers, even some thunderstorms, this evening. They will fade away.

:23:23. > :23:25.This week, we look at heavy rain at times thunder and lightning. There

:23:26. > :23:30.is some sunshine but colder by Friday with a northerly wind setting

:23:31. > :23:32.in for the bank holiday weekend. We're looking at some more rain

:23:33. > :23:37.tonight initially, then patchy mist and fog will develop in the early

:23:38. > :23:42.hours of the morning. That will reduce visibility on the road. A few

:23:43. > :23:45.storms lifting in from the south`east but once mist and fog

:23:46. > :23:53.forms, the showers will fade away. Temperatures dropped to around

:23:54. > :23:55.between 7`10d. A muddy start to tomorrow. That mist and fog will

:23:56. > :24:00.lift. We will see a few showers triggered by the sunshine and we

:24:01. > :24:04.will see the cloud break in places. There is the risk of thunderstorms.

:24:05. > :24:08.They are rolling in for supper most areas. The dry conditions are

:24:09. > :24:14.further north, with highs of 15, potentially up to 17 Celsius. Today,

:24:15. > :24:17.we saw a high of 17 degrees. Tomorrow night will be much like

:24:18. > :24:23.tonight, the showers will fade away. Some mist and fog again. More dense

:24:24. > :24:26.than tonight, with temperatures between seven and nine Celsius. The

:24:27. > :24:29.winds are like, which is why that mist and fog is forming with the

:24:30. > :24:34.moisture in the air. We start Wednesday on a dry note. We are

:24:35. > :24:37.respecting further showers. They could be heavy and thundery.

:24:38. > :24:44.Wednesday night, we see another weather feature pushing in. They

:24:45. > :24:49.will join together. A messy day on Thursday. Low pressure is in charge.

:24:50. > :24:54.By Friday, high pressure starts to build in. At the moment, the weekend

:24:55. > :24:57.is looking fairly settled. Stay tuned because things can change. We

:24:58. > :25:02.are looking at some rain tomorrow, heavy and thundery in places was the

:25:03. > :25:08.bounds of showers most together to longer spells of showers. Further

:25:09. > :25:13.sunshine and showers on Wednesday. A similar scenario on Thursday. By

:25:14. > :25:26.Friday, the cold air arrives. Thank you. Tomorrow, we have orange

:25:27. > :25:29.men, and something is. That is an old in this tradition. I have no

:25:30. > :25:33.idea what that is about. Good night.
