:00:00. > :00:12.Good evening. An inquest into the by Boko Haram, but now on BBC

:00:13. > :00:16.Good evening. An inquest into the death of a man from Witney has

:00:17. > :00:19.concluded he was unlawfully killed. Melvin Hillier, who was 52, was

:00:20. > :00:22.found at The Tower Centre in Carterton last year. Three people

:00:23. > :00:28.were arrested at the time on suspicion of murder, but no charges

:00:29. > :00:32.followed. Peter Cooke has more. Larger than life and a successful

:00:33. > :00:35.businessman. All seemed well for Oxford`born Melvin Hillier until a

:00:36. > :00:40.serious traffic accident in 2003 left him with mobility problems. He

:00:41. > :00:52.struggled to find work and began drinking heavily, quickly becoming

:00:53. > :00:55.an alcoholic. His house was used as a base for other drinkers and his

:00:56. > :00:58.family, seen here arriving at court, said because he was so generous,

:00:59. > :01:02.many would take advantage. The night before he died he went to stay with

:01:03. > :01:06.a friend in Alvescot Road in Carterton. That evening he suffered

:01:07. > :01:08.a broken nose, black eye and a head injury. He was found dead the

:01:09. > :01:13.following morning. Three other people were in the house at the time

:01:14. > :01:16.` two men, aged 49 and 59, and a woman, aged 28. All were arrested on

:01:17. > :01:19.suspicion of murder but later released without charge. A

:01:20. > :01:22.postmortem showed he died from blunt impact to the head. Coroner Darren

:01:23. > :01:26.Salter said he was confident Mr Hillier was punched and that's what

:01:27. > :01:30.caused his death. The police say they're keeping the investigation

:01:31. > :01:34.under review. The president of the Oxford Union

:01:35. > :01:38.has been released on bail, after being arrested on suspicion of rape

:01:39. > :01:43.and attempted rape. It's thought Benjamin Sullivan, who's 21, is a

:01:44. > :01:47.student at Christ Church College. He was elected head of the debating

:01:48. > :01:52.society in December. Oxford University has declined to comment.

:01:53. > :01:56.A controversial hostel for young people in Oxford is to be wound down

:01:57. > :02:01.and possibly closed. One Foot Forward on Iffley Road offers

:02:02. > :02:04.housing for 16 to 25`year`olds. But some people who live near the hostel

:02:05. > :02:07.have complained about anti`social behaviour for the last decade. Now

:02:08. > :02:16.the County Council's planning a number of smaller units instead.

:02:17. > :02:23.Katharine da Costa reports. And five Iffley Road, home to around

:02:24. > :02:28.20 homeless and vulnerable young adults. For many, though, they are

:02:29. > :02:30.unwanted neighbours. People are concerned about the behaviour

:02:31. > :02:40.outside the entrance to the building, they have been robberies

:02:41. > :02:43.of passers`by, abusing, fights. This altercation was recorded by our own

:02:44. > :02:47.camera crew back in November. But there are those who support the

:02:48. > :02:52.hostel and the work it does here. One neighbour told me she brought

:02:53. > :02:55.the making of chocolates at Christmas. I have spoken to some of

:02:56. > :02:59.the young people themselves, who didn't want to appear on camera, and

:03:00. > :03:04.they say they have been misunderstood and unfairly judged.

:03:05. > :03:07.It is easy to understand why. They all have very different needs,

:03:08. > :03:14.ranging from mental health problems to criminal convictions. I think

:03:15. > :03:17.it's a lethal cocktail of the perpetrators of crimes and people

:03:18. > :03:23.who are just victims, a combination of those two is a dangerous mix.

:03:24. > :03:29.That is why we have been asking for smaller units, more secure units.

:03:30. > :03:34.This woman lived before she was murdered in December last year.

:03:35. > :03:40.Councillor Williams thinks her death printed a serious rethink into how

:03:41. > :03:43.services are run. They can to cancel says plans for smaller homes have

:03:44. > :03:47.been on the cards for a while. The first is expected to open later this

:03:48. > :03:51.year. Up to a thousand jobs are at risk at

:03:52. > :03:54.the Kenco coffee factory in Banbury because of restructuring plans. The

:03:55. > :03:58.owner, Mondelez International, is selling half of its coffee business

:03:59. > :04:01.to create a new company. The factory has been the main employer in

:04:02. > :04:06.Banbury for 50 years and produces 100 million jars of instant coffee

:04:07. > :04:13.every year. The Unite Union has called the move highly unsettling.

:04:14. > :04:15.Children at a nursery in Bicester have been stopped from playing

:04:16. > :04:20.outside, since a footbridge was built over the railway line. It was

:04:21. > :04:24.put up over the bank holiday weekend, and even though the nursery

:04:25. > :04:28.was told about it, staff there say they had no idea how big it would

:04:29. > :04:37.be. Now they claim it's not safe for children to be in the garden. The

:04:38. > :04:39.gardens where we grow one hour of fruit and vegetables but

:04:40. > :04:45.unfortunately, at the moment, the garden is unsafe. Even when the

:04:46. > :04:48.footbridge opens, the children will be put immediately at risk by

:04:49. > :04:51.passers`by and people being able to access our children. Network Rail

:04:52. > :04:56.and Chiltern Railways say they're working to find a solution.

:04:57. > :04:59.Around 25,000 people in the Thames Valley are thought to be living with

:05:00. > :05:02.dementia. With that number growing, people are now being recruited to

:05:03. > :05:07.become "Dementia Friends". Victoria Cook has more.

:05:08. > :05:11.Jan and Ralph Burridge have been married for 59 years. He was

:05:12. > :05:18.diagnosed with vascular dementia three years ago. Now his wife is his

:05:19. > :05:28.full time carer. Something she says can be soul destroying. Very often

:05:29. > :05:37.don't know what you're saying, but your member afterwards, don't you?

:05:38. > :05:41.He does apologise. `` you remember afterwards. He has a sense of

:05:42. > :05:52.humour. Around 25,000 people in the Thames Valley area live with

:05:53. > :05:55.dementia. Leading charities now want more of us to understand the

:05:56. > :06:03.condition and in doing so become what they're calling a "dementia

:06:04. > :06:06.friend". The idea is that people can discover the small ` but significant

:06:07. > :06:09.` things they can do for those affected. For the first time

:06:10. > :06:13.tonight, this advert for the campaign will be shown in full. It

:06:14. > :06:21.includes all of all the celebrities backing the new idea. If you know

:06:22. > :06:24.three people over the age of 65, the chart is one of them will develop

:06:25. > :06:29.dementia so it is important we do something about it as a society, and

:06:30. > :06:32.make sure we have the resources and services to help those people. For

:06:33. > :06:39.Jan and Ralph Burridge, it's something they see as vital.

:06:40. > :06:42.Now if you'd like to get in touch with us, to tell us about stories

:06:43. > :06:52.you think we should be covering ` you can e`mail us.

:06:53. > :06:59.A lot of cloud not, perhaps the odd shower, band of rain working its way

:07:00. > :07:03.in from the West, that could be under heavy side tomorrow. A mild

:07:04. > :07:10.night tonight, down into double digits. It will be a wet start for

:07:11. > :07:14.some tomorrow, a band of very heavy, persistent rainfall work its way

:07:15. > :07:20.through southern areas to the rush hour, following that, drier period,

:07:21. > :07:27.some showers to follow, which will band in a line. Highest tomorrow of

:07:28. > :07:31.14 Celsius. It stays unsettled for the rest of the week, thundery

:07:32. > :07:32.showers are possible Friday and Saturday.

:07:33. > :07:41.looks right as we look into Friday. But more rain for the weekend. Now

:07:42. > :07:46.we have the UK outlook. Spring last year might have been the

:07:47. > :07:48.coldest in years, but we have already had the highest temperature

:07:49. > :07:49.so far. But we're nowhere near
