:00:12. > :00:15.Good evening. There are concerns hundreds of jobs could be at risk at
:00:16. > :00:18.the Kenco coffee factory in Banbury. The UNITE union say it's worried
:00:19. > :00:22.because the company's owner has announced it's merging with another
:00:23. > :00:33.business. It's one of the town's biggest employers.
:00:34. > :00:39.Behind those factory gates, almost 600 people help reduce Coffey for
:00:40. > :00:43.household names like Kenco. But staff at this factory are being told
:00:44. > :00:49.by the current owners about eight planned merger which will see that
:00:50. > :00:54.Coffey making arm merge with a rival firm. The problem for workers is
:00:55. > :01:00.that the deal comes with no guarantees there will be jobs at the
:01:01. > :01:07.plant. It will be anxious because you have got a lot of people who
:01:08. > :01:12.have worked here for up to 40 years. Hopefully it won't come to losing
:01:13. > :01:18.our jobs. The union says they have reservations as well. This plant
:01:19. > :01:26.have been here for 50 years. It is the best employer in the area. Any
:01:27. > :01:30.loss of jobs or attacks on terms and conditions will be massive. But
:01:31. > :01:36.after speaking with the company, there is more faith that lending B`2
:01:37. > :01:42.Coffey firms work out the best. Each successive owner has invested more
:01:43. > :01:48.money in the plant. It is one of the largest copy processing plants in
:01:49. > :02:01.Europe. I have little doubt that a further owner will continue to
:02:02. > :02:15.invest money. The current owners said:
:02:16. > :02:21.reassuring words perhaps, but for staff going home to night, they may
:02:22. > :02:26.feel a dark cloud could linger over head for some time yet.
:02:27. > :02:29.It's claimed house prices in Kidlington have risen steeply,
:02:30. > :02:33.following the planned work of a new railway station, linking the north
:02:34. > :02:36.of Oxford to London. The Oxford Parkway station's expected to open
:02:37. > :02:42.next year, near the Water Eaton park and ride. Estate agents say the
:02:43. > :02:48.number of properties up for sale in the area, has fallen, creating a
:02:49. > :02:52.shortage of supply. It's a flood defence plan costing
:02:53. > :02:58.more than ?125 million and earlier the Floods Minister was in Oxford to
:02:59. > :03:02.see for himself how it would work. The western conveyance project will
:03:03. > :03:05.see a channel built to the West of the city to carry water during heavy
:03:06. > :03:09.flooding. Our political reporter Helen Catt has more.
:03:10. > :03:13.Appropriate weather for a visit from the Floods Minister. Local Lib Dems
:03:14. > :03:16.had invited him to North Hinksey to hear about Oxford's flood problems
:03:17. > :03:19.and a multi`million pound proposed solution ` the Western Conveyance
:03:20. > :03:27.Channel The scheme would see a four`mile channel dug around Oxford
:03:28. > :03:34.to take water away from the city. Oxford experienced flooding Jing the
:03:35. > :03:44.winter period. It has happened time and time again. We want to invest
:03:45. > :03:47.money in the area. The Conservative and Independent led County Council
:03:48. > :03:57.and Labour led City Council have both backed it. We support the
:03:58. > :03:59.project, as well as it stacks up technically.
:04:00. > :04:02.UKIP, who are standing candidates in the upcoming City election, say they
:04:03. > :04:06.wholeheardtedly support it, too. But some are worried that what might be
:04:07. > :04:11.good for Oxford might not be so great for other areas. We are
:04:12. > :04:15.concerned that whilst it will take waterway from Oxford, it will send
:04:16. > :04:19.the water further south. That is our big worry and it is a long`term,
:04:20. > :04:22.expensive project. Now nobody's saying the conveyance
:04:23. > :04:28.channel would be a quick fix. The Environment Agency says it would be.
:04:29. > :04:31.In the meantime, measures like permeable pavements are being
:04:32. > :04:37.suggested. Those ideas will be discussed by the County Council on
:04:38. > :04:40.Tuesday. The Oxford Stadium, the former home
:04:41. > :04:45.of speedway and greyhound racing in the city, s now available for lease
:04:46. > :04:48.as a leisure site. It means there's a big possibility sport could return
:04:49. > :04:54.to the site in Blackbird Leys, with plans for more than 200 new homes
:04:55. > :04:58.put aside. Artists in north Oxfordshire are
:04:59. > :05:01.hoping to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charity through the sale
:05:02. > :05:05.of hundreds of sculptures in Kingham. Around 300 pieces of art
:05:06. > :05:17.have been delivered to the area. Jeremy Stern has been to see them.
:05:18. > :05:21.In the extensive grounds of! Lodge there are some unusual visitors.
:05:22. > :05:28.Hundreds of exhibits have been welcomed as part of Oxfordshire arts
:05:29. > :05:34.week. We did it a couple of years ago and about 3000 people came to
:05:35. > :05:41.see the sculptures. We hope we will have more visitors this time. The
:05:42. > :05:47.first Oxfordshire arts week was held in 1981. Since then thousands of
:05:48. > :05:53.creative types have exhibited across the county. It is really on because
:05:54. > :06:01.it gives a platform for amateur and professional artists to show what
:06:02. > :06:06.they have been doing. For Ashley Chamberlin, it is more than a past
:06:07. > :06:19.time. He spent 40 hours creating this. I have gone for an abstract
:06:20. > :06:28.should of an owl. I always do spiral work. The lodge will be open to the
:06:29. > :06:32.public on Saturday and a portion of the money taken will be donated to
:06:33. > :06:35.charity. Scientists in Oxfordshire have paid
:06:36. > :06:38.tribute to the space scientist Professor Colin Pillinger, who's
:06:39. > :06:41.passed away at his home. He worked with scientists at the Rutherford
:06:42. > :06:44.Appleton lab in Didcot as part of the Beagle II mission to Mars.
:06:45. > :06:53.Contact was lost with Beagle II in December 2003. Time now for the
:06:54. > :07:01.weather. A lot of dry weather tonight, but a
:07:02. > :07:05.risk of one or two showers. Temperatures will remain in double
:07:06. > :07:11.figures. The showers could be heavy in a few places. They will be fairly
:07:12. > :07:17.scattered. Tomorrow, a few showers to start that will eventually ease
:07:18. > :07:25.as the day wears on. A lot of sunshine as well. In the sunshine
:07:26. > :07:30.with a brisk wind, we can expect highs of 15 or 16 Celsius. It will
:07:31. > :07:32.stay on settled into the weekend. Bring to start on Saturday, followed
:07:33. > :07:34.by showers. Showers on Sunday that the course of tomorrow and through
:07:35. > :07:48.the weekend as well. The evening. Hello there. Fancy escaping the rain
:07:49. > :07:55.this weekend? We will be looking at the weather further afield in a
:07:56. > :07:59.moment. Another area of low pressure out here is lined up to the weekend.
:08:00. > :08:03.There will be some sunshine in between. Overnight tonight, most of
:08:04. > :08:08.the wet weather is across the North and the West, but later on in the
:08:09. > :08:13.night, showers will spread right the way across the country. Another cold
:08:14. > :08:24.night, temperatures are staying in double figures. Tomorrow, some
:08:25. > :08:28.places fare better, others worse. An improving story from the south
:08:29. > :08:32.across the country. Snapshot mid-afternoon, some showers across
