:00:00. > 3:59:59to be swift. David Bond, BBC News. On BBC Two in a few moments, the

:00:00. > :00:26.And Good evening. The Deputy Prime former

:00:27. > :00:29.And Good evening. The Deputy Prime Minister has been in Oxford this

:00:30. > :00:33.afternoon. Nick Clegg had offered more than 100 local people the rare

:00:34. > :00:37.chance to quiz him face to face on any issue they liked. But his visit

:00:38. > :00:41.was controversial with some students in the city who feel that his party

:00:42. > :00:48.has let them down. This from our Political reporter Helen Catt. It

:00:49. > :00:52.was a direct line for the people of Oxford to the big man himself. Nick

:00:53. > :01:11.Clegg offered a no holds barred question session this lunchtime with

:01:12. > :01:14.no topic apparently off the table. In 40 minutes of questioning, Mr

:01:15. > :01:16.Clegg answered questions on whistle`blowing and the Ukraine.

:01:17. > :01:19.Surprisingly little, though, considering it's two days till the

:01:20. > :01:22.local elections, on Oxfordshire. I thought it was really good and

:01:23. > :01:27.interesting to meet a politician that you see almost every week. He

:01:28. > :01:30.was surprisingly human, actually. As always, like a politician, he's

:01:31. > :01:33.always going to give see`saw answers, not really making a mark,

:01:34. > :01:37.but I thought he definitely made a new statement about tuition fees. A

:01:38. > :01:39.few streets away and a few hours later, some Oxford students were

:01:40. > :01:43.giving their own statements about tuition fees. They are angry that

:01:44. > :01:46.the Liberal Democrats went back on a pledge not to increase them. We

:01:47. > :01:51.don't think the Nick Clegg should be able to come onto our campus when he

:01:52. > :01:54.ran on a platform of free education and when he got into power, we

:01:55. > :01:58.suddenly have fees of 9000. And Nick Clegg's answer today? I am not Prime

:01:59. > :02:01.Minister, we did not win. People can't think we came third at

:02:02. > :02:04.election and have a right to implement our manifesto. It's called

:02:05. > :02:07.democracy. Away from Oxford, in West Oxfordshire and Cherwell, the Lib

:02:08. > :02:12.Dems are putting up fewer candidates in Thursday's local elections than

:02:13. > :02:15.any other party. We are putting forward nationally more candidates

:02:16. > :02:19.this time than last year but of course I accept that we are fighting

:02:20. > :02:23.the selections in quite a different context to the context in which they

:02:24. > :02:27.were last fought. It is voters though we will have the final say on

:02:28. > :02:32.all of our politicians this Thursday. You can find a full list

:02:33. > :02:35.of people standing in the local elections on the BBC website. A pond

:02:36. > :02:39.near Swindon where the boots of a murdered woman were found last week

:02:40. > :02:42.is due to be completely drained by police tomorrow. Sian o'Callaghan `

:02:43. > :02:46.who was also from the town ` was killed by taxi driver, Christopher

:02:47. > :02:49.Halliwell. Her boots and a shotgun were found in the pond last week. A

:02:50. > :02:52.woman from Swindon jailed for stealing more than 900 designer

:02:53. > :02:55.handbags has been ordered to pay back more than ?117,000 ` the

:02:56. > :02:58.profits she made from selling the bags online. Jayne Rand carried out

:02:59. > :03:02.a nationwide campaign of shoplifting over three years. If she doesn't pay

:03:03. > :03:05.the money back in six months she will face further jail time. BBC

:03:06. > :03:08.South Today has seen figures which show nearly 4000 people in our

:03:09. > :03:11.region have complained about noisy neighbours in the last year. Oxford

:03:12. > :03:14.City Council received almost 1500 complaints. But the largest increase

:03:15. > :03:18.was in West Oxfordshire. Adina Campbell has more. We've discovered

:03:19. > :03:24.thousands of people across our area could be experiencing excessive

:03:25. > :03:29.noise. The reports include complaints about loud music, car

:03:30. > :03:35.alarms or drinkers leaving the pub. Some places do seem to be worse than

:03:36. > :03:38.others. For example, last year in West Oxfordshire, there was a 31%

:03:39. > :03:42.increase in the number of complaints on the year before ` up to more than

:03:43. > :03:46.500. There has been a rise in reported complaints in Cherwell too

:03:47. > :03:52.` a 10% increase to more than 750 complaints. But for those living in

:03:53. > :03:58.the Vale of White Horse things are getting better. There they saw a 33%

:03:59. > :04:05.drop in the number of complaints reported. But one environmental

:04:06. > :04:10.charity says no one should have to put up with noisy neighbours. Has

:04:11. > :04:15.been affected by a noisy party at some point or somebody doing some

:04:16. > :04:21.noisy do`it`yourself job that goes on for weeks so it is a widespread

:04:22. > :04:32.problem of whether it be the country. Whether the noise is a

:04:33. > :04:35.problem depends on where you live. Swindon and Oxford saw the most

:04:36. > :04:39.complaints in the whole of our region. But your council does have

:04:40. > :04:41.the power to do something ` they can confiscate equipment and fine

:04:42. > :04:46.people. Cherwell District Council say it's up to us to act, though. We

:04:47. > :04:57.need to be a bit more proactive in making people aware of what we can

:04:58. > :05:02.do and promoting responsible behaviour and preserving our formal

:05:03. > :05:12.powers for cases that really warranted. `` warrant it.. The

:05:13. > :05:16.reality is most cases don't end up in court. A soft Humpty Dumpty toy,

:05:17. > :05:20.used in the BBC series Playschool, has been sold for more than ?6000 at

:05:21. > :05:25.an auctioneers in Oxfordshire. When Sinead Carroll was a little girl she

:05:26. > :05:39.was a big fan. For her report we travel through ` the arched

:05:40. > :05:42.window... Hello, Humpty, hello! He was one of Play School's most

:05:43. > :05:50.recognisable stars, featuring on the first ever programme to be aired on

:05:51. > :05:54.BBC Two. If you were a child anytime between 1964 and 1988, l then

:05:55. > :05:58.chances are you were fairly well acquainted with this chap. It is the

:05:59. > :06:01.first time an example of Humpty has come up for auction. I think Humpty,

:06:02. > :06:07.out of all thecharacters on Play School, was the one that you

:06:08. > :06:11.iconically remember most of all. This Humpty is one of around 20 of

:06:12. > :06:14.the original television toys... And he's seen better days, with a

:06:15. > :06:19.missing button and a small tear on his collar. But I guess that's what

:06:20. > :06:23.comes from being an egg sitting on a wall. Humpty, from BBC's Play School

:06:24. > :06:34.series... The winning bid of ?5000 was actually a sale of 6250`

:06:35. > :06:36.including a premium. At that price Humpty's new owner` a telephone

:06:37. > :06:40.bidder and private collector` will no doubt keep this toy somewhere

:06:41. > :06:43.safe` and on ground level. The little hand is edging towards the

:06:44. > :06:47.number 11 ` that's means it time for us to go. The weather is next `

:06:48. > :06:55.starting with the regional forecast with Sarah Farmer. Goodnight.

:06:56. > :07:07.The skies were clear overnight tonight and we may see some patchy

:07:08. > :07:10.mist for rural locations. Clear spells overhead for a time and

:07:11. > :07:13.temperatures down to a degree and temperatures down to eight degrees

:07:14. > :07:16.nine degrees. Tomorrow starts on a bright note with quite a fine

:07:17. > :07:20.morning but we will see the cloud built with a lunchtime period and

:07:21. > :07:25.through the afternoon sea water to showers drift our way. Top

:07:26. > :07:29.temperatures around 18 or 19 degrees. It will turn to Risley

:07:30. > :07:30.through tomorrow evening and then we have a weather warning for some wet

:07:31. > :07:32.weather going into Thursday. heavy showers but also sunny spells.

:07:33. > :07:42.Maybe some showers for the weekend. Good evening, yet again we are

:07:43. > :07:46.finishing the day with some thunderstorms clustered across parts

:07:47. > :07:51.of Cumbria, some torrential downpours at the moment, and flashes

:07:52. > :07:57.of lightning. Along the front of this weather system, showers have

:07:58. > :08:03.developed. They are pushing their way northwards, and will continue to

:08:04. > :08:09.do so, taking the downpours into Scotland. Behind that, clearer skies

:08:10. > :08:10.with temperatures dipping down into single
