:00:07. > :00:09.Good evening. destination.

:00:10. > :00:12.The construction industry is warning there's a need for thousands of

:00:13. > :00:15.skilled workers to meet dem`nds on building sites in our region. As the

:00:16. > :00:18.economy picks up, an increase in housing and infrastructure projects

:00:19. > :00:21.can't be met by the current workforce. Our business

:00:22. > :00:23.correspondent, Alastair Fee has been to Reading where they're trxing to

:00:24. > :00:49.Mildest 20 and unemployed. He wants to be a bricklayer. There are jobs

:00:50. > :00:55.out there so I need the qualifications to do it. Buhlding is

:00:56. > :00:59.on the up but there is alre`dy a shortage of labour. This is Korea's

:01:00. > :01:06.event in Reading aims to pltg the gap before a real shortage dmerges.

:01:07. > :01:09.Growth has really taken off and the construction industry needs more

:01:10. > :01:13.skills and more young peopld coming into the sector and the need to be

:01:14. > :01:19.able to train up the next generation. If the talent is not on

:01:20. > :01:23.hand, that could mean a slower economic recovery and store

:01:24. > :01:27.development. If we don't get the jobs, we will not continue to grow

:01:28. > :01:31.at this rate. It is important to ensure that we have the taldnt and

:01:32. > :01:38.skills to allow our sites to continue in the pace that wd are

:01:39. > :01:43.going. The upturn is alreadx being felt at Reading College. Cotrses in

:01:44. > :01:47.carpentry have seen an upsurge in interest. It is estimated that

:01:48. > :01:53.thousands of extra people uneasy for jobs in plastering and other similar

:01:54. > :01:55.jobs. Thousands of people whll be needed to stave off a potentially

:01:56. > :01:59.massive shortage of skills. The president of the Oxford Union

:02:00. > :02:01.has said people arrested on suspicion of rape should relain

:02:02. > :02:04.anonymous after a case against him was dropped. Ben Sullivan w`s

:02:05. > :02:07.arrested in May on suspicion of rape and attempted rape. Speaking on the

:02:08. > :02:10.BBC's Newsnight, he said he wanted a "happy medium" to protect pdople's

:02:11. > :02:13.identities. It's been described as the biggest

:02:14. > :02:16.investment in roads since the 1 70s. Local authorities in our region have

:02:17. > :02:19.been assessing the impact of their share of a ?168 million handout from

:02:20. > :02:25.the Government designed to put paid to potholes. Critics say more money

:02:26. > :02:30.needs to be made available. Peter For many motorists, it's thdir

:02:31. > :02:37.biggest gripe about our roads. Over ?150 million has been handed out to

:02:38. > :02:40.English councils to tackle the issue. Our region is getting nearly

:02:41. > :02:45.?5 million from that pot. Buckinghamshire will receivd

:02:46. > :02:50.around ?1.5 million. And Swindon will be given

:02:51. > :03:06.more than ?300,000. There are too many roads th`t need

:03:07. > :03:10.fixing. So I hope that this road gets attention because it is a main

:03:11. > :03:14.thoroughfare into Oxford from London. I have had my tyres ripped,

:03:15. > :03:19.I have had punctures and I'l pleased to hear there is funding for it It

:03:20. > :03:27.costs a lot of money is I don't blame the council. I think they do

:03:28. > :03:33.their best. The council says this money will help fix 60,000 potholes.

:03:34. > :03:38.But is there anywhere near dnough? It will be enough for us to do all

:03:39. > :03:42.the potholes we have got pl`nned and all the ones that we in participate

:03:43. > :03:46.for this year. It will give us enough to fill potholes and also

:03:47. > :03:51.when they go along roads, wd will be able to see how bottles fit into the

:03:52. > :03:54.roads and whether it will bd easier to playing off sections of the road

:03:55. > :03:57.and patch it that way. But much`needed investment will

:03:58. > :04:03.provide at least some silver lining. Fire`fighters across our region

:04:04. > :04:06.are due to strike again tomorrow. The walk`out ` about pensions `

:04:07. > :04:11.is due between 10am and 5pm. Buckinghamshire's hospitals have

:04:12. > :04:14.been removed from special measures after proving they have

:04:15. > :04:16.improved their standards of care. The services,

:04:17. > :04:18.including those at Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe, were found to have made

:04:19. > :04:21.significant progress A group of boaters has defended its

:04:22. > :04:29.decision to take over a strdtch of The houseboat owners say nobody

:04:30. > :04:34.owns the land and they are Some people say the boats are an

:04:35. > :04:51.eyesore. Shamen Hazzard has moored hdr boat

:04:52. > :04:54.here for nearly six years whthout permission, together with

:04:55. > :04:56.the other boat owners here. They are now trying to make a claim

:04:57. > :05:07.for this patch of land in Jdricho. It is unofficial. We are here

:05:08. > :05:10.without it being claimed, wd are squatting. Squatting on the moorings

:05:11. > :05:17.because they are not offici`l. The problem is no`one

:05:18. > :05:19.knows who owns the land. Shamen says getting a licence

:05:20. > :05:33.for a run`down boat is impossible. I've got a list somewhere. Shall I

:05:34. > :05:37.come and live with you? I'vd got to live somewhere with my dogs.

:05:38. > :05:40.Shamen isn't the only one. @lan Joyce lives on a boat furthdr down.

:05:41. > :05:42.He is also moored on unclailed land without permission.

:05:43. > :05:59.We are all on low incomes. @nd people on low incomes need somewhere

:06:00. > :06:02.to live. For a city to be vhable, we need a cross mixture.

:06:03. > :06:04.Some residents are unhappy the boats are there.

:06:05. > :06:10.But not everyone wants them to leave.

:06:11. > :06:17.I would much rather her livhng on a bow there than living on thd street

:06:18. > :06:23.being cold. They could do whth a dasher paint, but at least they are

:06:24. > :06:26.not homeless. It is not causing problems, so why not?

:06:27. > :06:28.The canal and river trust says it?s trying to

:06:29. > :06:31.ascertain who owns the land and therefore whose responsibilhty it is

:06:32. > :06:35.In the meantime it says it hs working with local businessds

:06:36. > :06:48.The weather is next with thd regional forecast. Have a great

:06:49. > :07:05.weekend. A quiet night to come. Maybd Miss

:07:06. > :07:11.patches as well. `` maybe missed`macro patches. Temperature

:07:12. > :07:15.stay fairly low. They droppdd lower in the country. A decent dax in

:07:16. > :07:21.store tomorrow. We are expecting temperatures in the low 20s. Plenty

:07:22. > :07:28.of sunshine on offer throughout the day. The pollen levels are high

:07:29. > :07:31.High pressure remains in ch`rge of our weather through the weekend

:07:32. > :07:40.Staying Hello there. Tomorrow is the longest

:07:41. > :07:44.day, the summer solstice, it's not often that we bring you good news,

:07:45. > :07:47.but it does look promising for this weekend. There may be a little rain

:07:48. > :07:50.in the far north of Scotland, otherwise it should be dry and

:07:51. > :07:54.there'll be good spells of sunshine. With light winds, it should feel

:07:55. > :07:58.quite warm as well. The reason for the quiet weather, this blocking

:07:59. > :08:04.area of high pressure out to the west. We do have weak weather fronts

:08:05. > :08:07.towards the Northern Isles. Nor cloud for the -- more cloud in the

:08:08. > :08:08.northern half of
