:09:56. > :10:07.with Sally Taylor. Life's a beach for the volldyball

:10:08. > :10:09.players in Bournemouth A school support worker has gone on

:10:10. > :10:20.trial accused of causing thd death by careless driving of an albulance

:10:31. > :10:36.police he'd checked his mirror, but hadn't seen the ambulance bdfore the

:10:37. > :10:50.accident. Sean Killick was hn court. It was on a 999 call taking a

:10:51. > :10:55.seriously man to have ill m`n to hospital and resulted in a

:10:56. > :11:00.collision. The man travelling in the rear of the ambulance died from

:11:01. > :11:11.injuries sustained in the crash 42`year`old Gillian Rambo who was

:11:12. > :11:17.driving, also died. The man's son was concerned. The jury was told

:11:18. > :11:22.today the ambulance was in collision with a people carrier. The driver

:11:23. > :11:28.was 26`year`old Richard husband who was driving three teenage ptpils in

:11:29. > :11:31.his role as a school support worker. According to the prosecution he was

:11:32. > :11:36.following another vehicle along this stretch of road when the ambulance

:11:37. > :11:42.came up from behind to overtake both of them. The motorist descrhbed as

:11:43. > :11:48.the ambulance drew level, the car struck the ambulance on the side.

:11:49. > :11:54.The ambulance careered off, along the side of the road and into a

:11:55. > :11:57.tree. The court was stored hn a statement that the pupils in his car

:11:58. > :12:05.were playing very loud music, and he repeatedly turned talk`` told them

:12:06. > :12:14.to turn it down. But, his c`r collided with the ambulance. He

:12:15. > :12:18.tonight is careless driving. The trial is expected to last all week.

:12:19. > :12:19.A mother in Bournemouth has deliberately kept

:12:20. > :12:22.her ten`year`old son out of school for the past six lonths.

:12:23. > :12:27.For three years Claire Sherlock says she's been fighting to get

:12:28. > :12:31.a new school place for her son Gabriel because she feels they are

:12:32. > :12:33.not providing him with the `dequate education and support he nedds.

:12:34. > :12:39.So what happens to a boy whose mother wants one thing and the local

:12:40. > :12:47.Gabriel has high functioning autism, ADHD, Tourette's and mental illness.

:12:48. > :12:50.He hasn't been to school for the last six months.

:12:51. > :12:57.I think three years is long enough to have given them the chance to

:12:58. > :13:02.prove that they are capable of educating him, and they can't.

:13:03. > :13:06.If I could wave a magic wand, what would you ideally like to do?

:13:07. > :13:32.In a statement Bournemouth council said:

:13:33. > :13:38.The academy say they can give Gabriel the education he nedds, and

:13:39. > :13:44.they would welcome him act here any time that he wanted to come. But his

:13:45. > :13:48.mum doesn't want him here, `nd the local authority does. But where does

:13:49. > :13:53.that leave Gabriel? This is a common problem. For any family where they

:13:54. > :13:57.are having difficulty they need to know what their rights are. So it's

:13:58. > :14:01.up to the school and the local authority to say that they can

:14:02. > :14:05.appeal the decision is, and show them how to go about it. Thdre are

:14:06. > :14:11.organisations that can help, but the parent needs to know that. For three

:14:12. > :14:15.years she has tried to get Gabriel into other schools, and says she

:14:16. > :14:22.doesn't have the skills to dducate him at home. It breaks my hdart The

:14:23. > :14:27.worst thing is when he is hhtting himself. The other night whdn he was

:14:28. > :14:32.having a really bad meltdown he was hitting himself and pulling his

:14:33. > :14:41.hair. This was after throwing things around and whatnot. He just says,

:14:42. > :14:44.you know, I might as well bd dead. Everyone seems to have Gabrhel at

:14:45. > :15:03.the heart of the decision: His mother, the council, and thd school.

:15:04. > :15:06.Nearly a hundred years ago a huge Army camp sprang up

:15:07. > :15:08.on the outskirts of Winchester to house troops heading for thd

:15:09. > :15:12.It's estimated that some two million Allied soldiers passed throtgh

:15:13. > :15:16.It covered a vast area just to the east of the city, either side

:15:17. > :15:21.It occupied land at Magdalen Hill, Winnal Down,

:15:22. > :15:24.At any one time around fifty thousand troops were

:15:25. > :15:29.Today a promise that a perm`nent memorial to those troops wotld be

:15:30. > :15:42.Joe Campbell is at the site of the camp above Winchester tonight.

:15:43. > :15:52.Standing here on a warm sumler s evening, it is difficult to imagine

:15:53. > :15:57.this scene so long ago. This landscape will be packed, almost as

:15:58. > :16:00.far as the eye can see with army huts full of soldiers who h`d

:16:01. > :16:06.answered the call from across Britain, across Canada, places like

:16:07. > :16:10.India to go and fight on thd Western front. Today, a promise that they

:16:11. > :16:12.would never be forgotten was honoured on the streets of

:16:13. > :16:26.Winchester just down the hill from us.

:16:27. > :16:30.This is a city with strong military ties.

:16:31. > :16:33.Roll back the years and few could imagine the ilpact

:16:34. > :16:36.the arrival of the first of millions of troops on thd Downs

:16:37. > :16:44.100 years ago 50,000 soldiers under canvas on this hill.

:16:45. > :16:48.The population of the city was 22,000.

:16:49. > :16:50.David is one of those who've campaigned for a

:16:51. > :16:58.A lot of them came from overseas and they were taken into

:16:59. > :17:01.the city into the Guildhall, the great hall, the college, people s

:17:02. > :17:09.Throughout the four years a number of things like busds

:17:10. > :17:15.started up to serve the camp, a pie and mash shop started up.

:17:16. > :17:17.The first cinema for the troops eventually bdcame

:17:18. > :17:24.So, 2 million men, over four years, on a small city, an enormous impact.

:17:25. > :17:27.Even after the last troops larched away, the legacy lived on.

:17:28. > :17:31.With the huts used to house local families `

:17:32. > :17:36.one man born there remembers they were not rich on creature comforts.

:17:37. > :17:51.And the toilet was out the back in an old shed.

:17:52. > :17:55.The final military occupants were the American doughboys.

:17:56. > :17:59.It's hard to imagine what GHs from the prairies of Pennsylvania

:18:00. > :18:05.In every war there are placds in between that end up being home

:18:06. > :18:11.for a short amount of time as you prepare to go into b`ttle.

:18:12. > :18:15.Part of being in the Army is home is home is where you hang your hat

:18:16. > :18:22.So, this was home for a while to those men and I am sure,

:18:23. > :18:25.like I found, they appreciated the friendliness of the people.

:18:26. > :18:30.Today, that promise to the departing Yanks was finally honoured.

:18:31. > :18:42.Recalling those who rested here awhile on their final journdy.

:18:43. > :18:49.The Duke of Gloucester at today s unveiling ceremony said that many of

:18:50. > :18:54.those who came here must have begun to realise the horrors of the

:18:55. > :19:01.Western front that awaited them once they left Hampshire's shores behind.

:19:02. > :19:04.One of the people who was responsible for making sure the

:19:05. > :19:08.memorial was put in place today said to me that it is perhaps appropriate

:19:09. > :19:13.that these fields are now a butterfly sanctuary. Somewhdre that

:19:14. > :19:16.on a warm summer's evening like this you can take a walk and reflect on

:19:17. > :19:30.the sacrifice of those who once passed through here.

:19:31. > :19:41.I thought this was something of a no`go, to mention the England

:19:42. > :19:48.match. We if we could only say it was a dream. A nightmare. Wdll

:19:49. > :19:54.tomorrow, look sure could play. He is set for a world debut in his

:19:55. > :20:04.first game for England. He has been struggling without hamstring injury,

:20:05. > :20:13.and Roy Hodgson is shovelling his pack. Costa Rica is tomorrow at 5pm.

:20:14. > :20:18.Portuguese midfielder has bden sold after making just three appdarances

:20:19. > :20:25.and one starts after joining the club in 2012. Some of the wdekend's

:20:26. > :20:35.highlights then, for gold mddals were won in France. The men's

:20:36. > :20:46.quadruple skull, as Pat Copdland to comb her first ever medal. Heather

:20:47. > :20:50.stunning one in the women's pairs. We would never get complacent in our

:20:51. > :20:53.situation. We note that we have targets on our back, we havd been

:20:54. > :20:58.told that by the crews that are racing. We were the underdogs are

:20:59. > :21:00.now we are the top dogs in the event and we know that won't last if we

:21:01. > :21:05.don't keep progressing. Very light winds led to one

:21:06. > :21:07.of the longest round the island More than half

:21:08. > :21:11.of the fleet failed to even finish the race as boats struggled

:21:12. > :21:14.for any help from the elements on The gold roman bowl was awarded to

:21:15. > :21:18.the boat Madelaine, The first boat to actually cross the

:21:19. > :21:22.line was the mutlihull, Teal Richard We also need a little bit

:21:23. > :21:28.of wind and then we can get going Then we need a little bit more

:21:29. > :21:33.and we can get both out We only probably did 25 minttes

:21:34. > :21:37.of foiling today on the whole race and that's not nearly enough for us

:21:38. > :21:41.to get anywhere near the record But it's still might nice to do it

:21:42. > :21:53.and it's good to show what boats Sussex are on the road at Dtrham but

:21:54. > :21:59.are struggling after their second day. They were bowled out after 205.

:22:00. > :22:02.The home side now extending their lead in the second innings. Surrey
