:00:14. > :00:19.The court said Alexander Thomas had abused his position of trust

:00:20. > :00:23.and attempted to groom sixth form pupils who he befriended online.

:00:24. > :00:28.30`year`old Alexander Thomas arrived at court having been

:00:29. > :00:35.At his trial, the jury had heard how he had targeted the girls,

:00:36. > :00:46.the messages quickly became sexually explicit.

:00:47. > :00:49.One girl was persuaded by the PE and Business Studies teacher to send

:00:50. > :00:51.him photographs of herself posing in her underwear.

:00:52. > :00:53.A second teenager sent him a topless image.

:00:54. > :00:56.With two of his victims sitting only yards away in the public gallery,

:00:57. > :00:59.the court listened as personal statements were read out.

:01:00. > :01:02.One girl now looked back on her time in the sixth form as one of disgust.

:01:03. > :01:05.Another one said she suffered from panic attacks and deprdssion.

:01:06. > :01:08.Today, one teaching union said it has strict guidelines for the use

:01:09. > :01:13.We advise extreme caution in using Facebook or any social medi`.

:01:14. > :01:16.We suggest that our members do not friend any pupils or ex`pupils

:01:17. > :01:25.The jury had found Thomas guilty of five counts of inciting

:01:26. > :01:28.a child to engage in sexual activity while in a position of trust.

:01:29. > :01:30.And he admitted a charge of possessing

:01:31. > :01:34.I would like to personally thank all of the

:01:35. > :01:37.victims, who have shown courage by coming to court to give evidence.

:01:38. > :01:40.This case highlights Wiltshire Police's dedication of

:01:41. > :01:44.working with our partner agencies to safeguard children in our county.

:01:45. > :01:47.The sentence handed down today by the judge reflects the sdrious

:01:48. > :01:52.nature of these crimes and the impact it's had on the victims.

:01:53. > :01:55.Jailing Thomas for two`and`a`half years, the judge told him this was

:01:56. > :02:01."You were motivated by your desire for sexual gratification.

:02:02. > :02:12."All these girls have been left affected in some way."

:02:13. > :02:14.Police are investigating an attempted murder in Oxford.

:02:15. > :02:17.A man in his 70s was found with stab wounds at a property in Littlemore

:03:02. > :03:05.decided it would be safe for pupils in Cassington to walk to school

:03:06. > :03:09.Children from Cassington are used to getting

:03:10. > :03:11.the bus to Bartholomew School in Eynsham, but from September,

:03:12. > :03:18.some may have to walk the two`mile journey alongside the busy A40.

:03:19. > :03:21.The route was classified as unsafe by the county council

:03:22. > :03:25.for years, but it's been reviewed and reassessed as safe.

:03:26. > :03:30.That means, for many, the rhght to free travel will now be taken away.

:03:31. > :03:33.I don't think it's a safe place for pupils to be allowed to walk

:03:34. > :03:39.We're very much in the hands of the council, who are led slightly

:03:40. > :03:42.by budgetary concerns and they have financial pressures.

:03:43. > :03:45.But we have the safety of our children to consider as well and

:03:46. > :03:51.But the council's told parents the route is safe for children to

:03:52. > :03:55.walk and the accident rate for pedestrians is very low.

:03:56. > :03:58.The campaign by the Cassington families has now gone all

:03:59. > :04:03.One of the parents wrote to his local MP, who also happdns to be

:04:04. > :04:08.In turn, David Cameron wrotd to Ian Hudspeth, the leader of Oxfordshire

:04:09. > :04:12.County Council, and the Prime Minister asked that the pardnts

:04:13. > :04:14.concerned about safety on this road are taken into consideration

:04:15. > :04:21.The appeal will be heard later this month.

:04:22. > :04:24.There will still be a bus service available next term,

:04:25. > :04:27.but unless the appeal succedds, most parents will need to pay

:05:57. > :06:00.was not one Lenagan wanted, but now he's only the joint owner.

:06:01. > :06:03.The former Portsmouth and Blackpool boss Michael Appleton comes in.
