:00:00. > :01:02.Thank you very much indeed. That is it from Edinburgh we will

:01:03. > :01:05.The announcement from the county council comes as it decides how

:01:06. > :02:38.of the roads in top condition, it would cost them ?167 million. The

:02:39. > :02:43.roads are classed in different colours. Of the repair budget goes

:02:44. > :02:48.on fixing red routes. The proposal is to spend a quarter on fixing red

:02:49. > :02:52.routes and the rest on high and the rest on high amber ones. What we can

:02:53. > :02:58.afford at the moment is to patch and mend as best we can. There will not

:02:59. > :03:03.be any danger of those red and roads getting worse? It is our job to make

:03:04. > :03:08.sure they don't get to the stage where they are undrivable. We have

:03:09. > :03:14.to prioritise to make sure they do get prepared and we want to make

:03:15. > :03:19.sure the amber roads do not become red roads. Reductions in government

:03:20. > :03:20.budget plus cold weather means Oxfordshire's pothole problems are

:03:21. > :03:23.only likely to get worse. A man is in hospital

:03:24. > :03:25.in life`threatening condition after being stabbed in the neck

:03:26. > :03:28.in a shop in Aylesbury. He was attacked yesterday afternoon

:03:29. > :03:31.in the Babs Food and Wine Store A 63`year`old man

:03:32. > :03:34.from Aylesbury has been arrested The 25`year`old victim has now been

:03:35. > :03:39.moved to the John Radcliffe Hospital Police say they're still searching

:03:40. > :03:45.for the man who raped a jogger The woman was attacked on a bridle

:03:46. > :03:50.way parallel to the A34 in Drayton Police say there's been a good

:03:51. > :03:56.response from the public so far. They're still keen to hear

:03:57. > :03:59.from anyone who was in the Kiln Lane Two men have been arrested

:04:00. > :04:06.as part of an ongoing operation into sexual offences against

:04:07. > :04:08.children in Buckinghamshire. Eight men, picked up in raids

:04:09. > :04:11.across the county last week, have already been charged with sexual

:04:12. > :04:14.offences against young girls. Police today arrested

:04:15. > :04:17.a 31`year`old man from Aylesbury and a 40`year`old man from Middlesex

:04:18. > :04:23.on similar offences. It's been announced that

:04:24. > :04:25.the budget for Children's Services in Buckinghamshire is to be

:04:26. > :04:28.increased by nearly ?6 million. The decision comes after

:04:29. > :04:32.the services were given the lowest Inspectors

:04:33. > :04:35.from Ofsted have told the government the protection and care of young

:04:36. > :04:39.people in the county is inadequate. The council has said safeguarding

:04:40. > :04:41.children is one An aircraft company

:04:42. > :04:48.in Oxford has won a ?35 million contract to look after the entire

:04:49. > :04:51.fleet of police helicopters Airbus Helicopters,

:04:52. > :04:56.based at Oxford Airport in Kidlington, will now be in charge

:04:57. > :04:59.of servicing all 19 aircraft. It's a big boost for staff

:05:00. > :05:01.and local businesses. It's been an anxious wait

:05:02. > :05:08.for staff here at the Airbus site in Kidlington,

:05:09. > :05:12.but now the deal's been signed off. The Business Minister was

:05:13. > :05:22.here to congratulate them. Very impressed by the work you do

:05:23. > :05:24.and wish you all the best first future.

:05:25. > :05:27.The company will now do the maintenance work for all police

:05:28. > :05:29.helicopters, like this one, over the the next five years.

:05:30. > :05:31.It's a lucrative contract worth ?35 million.

:05:32. > :05:37.But the knock on effects go much further:

:05:38. > :05:43.I have been here to learn about the business success stories. Over the

:05:44. > :05:50.last four years, there have been more than 2.5 `` 2500 new businesses

:05:51. > :05:52.that have started and existing businesses have expanded.

:05:53. > :05:55.Airbus fought off stiff competition from firms in other parts of the UK

:05:56. > :06:00.And it's a company already doing big business on a global scale.

:06:01. > :06:04.The new contact is a big deal for Oxford and surrounding areas.

:06:05. > :06:10.Airbus the world's biggest helicopter manufacturer

:06:11. > :06:14.and makes 70% of police, air ambulance and fire and rescue

:06:15. > :06:18.Airbus has given people like Josh a key job opportunity.

:06:19. > :06:22.He started his apprenticeship when he was 17 and hopes to have

:06:23. > :06:38.The best part of the job is we get to stick to an aircraft from start

:06:39. > :06:40.to the end and also working on modifications.

:06:41. > :06:42.As well as providing job security for staff, this new deal

:06:43. > :06:46.Ministers say business investments in Oxfordshire

:06:47. > :06:53.More than 3,000 tonnes of waste has been removed from a recycling

:06:54. > :06:58.The fire, at the Averies recycling site started back in July.

:06:59. > :07:01.Waste has been removed to give firefighters more room to work.

:07:02. > :07:05.The burning material left on site is now being broken down

:07:06. > :07:09.and fully extinguished before being taken to another site.

:07:10. > :07:12.A new link road has been opened in Buckinghamshire specifically

:07:13. > :07:15.designed for lorries transporting waste to Calvert.

:07:16. > :07:18.The new route means residents nearby have fewer vehicles passing

:07:19. > :07:26.A newly built roundabout on the A41, Bicester Road, diverts lorries

:07:27. > :07:31.The new route also passes the Energy for Waste site, which is currently

:07:32. > :07:35.Getting a job through an apprenticeship is becoming more

:07:36. > :07:39.and more popular, but now there are calls to make that easier for people

:07:40. > :07:42.Campaigners say while many people are suitable for

:07:43. > :07:46.the route into employment ` they are hampered by needing qualifications

:07:47. > :07:51.Now a college in Oxfordshire has teamed up with a charity to take

:07:52. > :07:55.Stuart Tinworth has been finding out more.

:07:56. > :08:00.She and three others are apprentices at this Oxford cafe.

:08:01. > :08:04.It's a charity and the only employer of apprentices with learning

:08:05. > :08:12.I was stuck in the house doing nothing and I had volunteer work

:08:13. > :08:16.at this place in Banbury but they didn't want to employ me.

:08:17. > :08:27.If I didn't have this place, I don't know what I would have done.

:08:28. > :08:34.I work on the till and I got my first pay cheque last week.

:08:35. > :08:38.I am feeling happy and proud of myself.

:08:39. > :08:41.The apprenticeship route is proving more and more popular.

:08:42. > :08:44.But last year ` a government commissioned report found those

:08:45. > :08:48.taken on with autism or learning difficulties amounts to just 0.1%.

:08:49. > :08:52.Four apprentices have been taken on at this cafe

:08:53. > :08:58.but there is still concerns there are big barriers in place for people

:08:59. > :09:02.The apprenticeship framework states people should reach level one in

:09:03. > :09:06.maths and English and many colleges say that is simply unrealistic.

:09:07. > :09:11.Practically they can do maths and English but sat down at a desk

:09:12. > :09:14.with a pen and paper, they don't show what they are capable of.

:09:15. > :09:20.I would like to see them reassess their capabilities.

:09:21. > :09:30.Here at Abingdon and Wintey college, they're working to change attitudes.

:09:31. > :09:34.It is demonstrating that doing it this way can work and once we can

:09:35. > :09:38.show success, people will listen and starts to look and say, "if you

:09:39. > :09:43.can be successful there, you can be successful on a wider scale.".

:09:44. > :09:46.For Hannah and Darren this could be the start of a career and they want

:09:47. > :09:57.I'll have the headlines at 8 and a full bulletin at 10.25.

:09:58. > :10:07.Now more of today's stories with Sally Taylor.

:10:08. > :10:10.70 years on ` the 94 year old who helped the British at Arnhem

:10:11. > :10:21.A scam email ` claiming to have been sent

:10:22. > :10:24.from a ticket agency in Bournemouth ` could have affected thousands

:10:25. > :10:28.The phishing email, which is designed to install malicious

:10:29. > :10:29.software, tells people they've booked tickets to Bournemouth

:10:30. > :10:34.BH Live ` which runs the venue ` says there's been no breach of data

:10:35. > :10:45.Ashya King has left a specialist clinic in Prague after undergoing

:10:46. > :10:47.scans in advance of proton beam treatment for brain cancer.

:10:48. > :10:49.The five`year`old's parents ` from Southsea `

:10:50. > :10:51.took him out of Southampton General Hospital last month

:10:52. > :10:56.Ashya was flown to the centre on Monday from Spain.

:10:57. > :10:59.The therapy which is not available to them on the NHS is likely to cost

:11:00. > :11:02.tens of thousands of pounds ` which the family hope to pay for

:11:03. > :11:18.It is there at the back of my mind as something I will have to sort

:11:19. > :11:24.out. But we are happy to be here and he is getting treatment at last. I

:11:25. > :11:27.would be a lot happier but that nagging thought about the money will

:11:28. > :11:32.have to come up at some stage into my mind.

:11:33. > :11:35.The future of a road on the Isle of Wight that partially collapsed

:11:36. > :11:37.in heavy rainfall could be decided this evening.

:11:38. > :11:39.A landslip damaged Undercliff Drive near Ventnor in February.

:11:40. > :11:42.Cracks appeared in houses, forcing a number of residents to move out.

:11:43. > :11:44.The council is discussing whether further investigations are

:11:45. > :12:03.A Ukrainian`born billionaire has been speaking to South Today

:12:04. > :12:04.about his ambitious plan to import electricity

:12:05. > :12:07.for 1.4 million people into the South of England from France.

:12:08. > :12:09.Alexander Temerko wants to build an interconnector pipeline

:12:10. > :12:12.from a French nuclear power station near Cherbourg and plug it into

:12:13. > :12:16.But he says he's in dispute over exactly where this electricity

:12:17. > :12:24.Alexander Temerko smilingly told me how much he loves big business.

:12:25. > :12:27.He is an energy oligarch and he can afford to.

:12:28. > :12:30.He is stumping up almost one third of the ?1.4 billion it will

:12:31. > :12:40.cost to lay no known electricity pipelines across the Channel.

:12:41. > :12:45.Today we have the capacity of making electricity in France

:12:46. > :12:53.The best way in our opinion is to have between France and England

:12:54. > :12:58.The cable will run along the sea bed to near Portsmouth.

:12:59. > :13:03.Mr Temerko has been told by the National Grid that this

:13:04. > :13:11.substation is near capacity and he should run it to near Bramley.

:13:12. > :13:15.Running to this substation between Bramley and Filchester was

:13:16. > :13:19.involve a vast amount of digging over a distance of 40 miles.

:13:20. > :13:23.We have asked the National Grid to comment on this project but it

:13:24. > :13:39.has refused because a connection agreement has not been signed.

:13:40. > :13:44.They told us that they would identify which ever substation was

:13:45. > :13:57.the most economic. more economic and efficient for

:13:58. > :14:01.the National Grid to upgrade the If capacity in South England

:14:02. > :14:05.is full, it is impossible to I will appeal because we spent

:14:06. > :14:16.money, we can train you to spend money and I do not want to stop

:14:17. > :14:20.because we need to keep it going. The current timetable would have

:14:21. > :14:22.the cable laid in five years Increasing the number

:14:23. > :14:30.of interconnectors to Europe to cut bills and increase energy security

:14:31. > :14:32.is a government priority. Alexander tim echocardiogram may be

:14:33. > :14:34.a Tory party donor but it is the National Grid

:14:35. > :14:39.and Ofgem he now needs to convince. The Grid's national arm has

:14:40. > :14:41.permission for a subsea cable which will connect to the grid

:14:42. > :14:50.near Fareham switching on in 2019. It's been talked about for almost 20

:14:51. > :14:53.years, but this week, revised plans for the redevelopment of

:14:54. > :14:56.a rundown part of central Winchester The city council says the

:14:57. > :15:00.Silver Hill project will transform the area,

:15:01. > :15:03.but there is fierce opposition. And its decision to drop

:15:04. > :15:05.its requirement for affordable homes to be built there,

:15:06. > :15:08.has further angered some residents. This is a neglected corner of

:15:09. > :15:15.Winchester ` an eyesore in a city Which is why the city council has

:15:16. > :15:27.pinned its hopes on developers who have promised this vibrant

:15:28. > :15:29.regeneration with shops, restaurants But their plans are controversial `

:15:30. > :15:36.they have been criticised for being out of keeping with

:15:37. > :15:38.Winchester's historic centre. And none of the homes built will need to

:15:39. > :15:42.be affordable after the council accepted

:15:43. > :15:44.the developers' argument that providing social housing would make

:15:45. > :15:56.the scheme financially unviable. I think it will be a big loss. The

:15:57. > :16:00.portal thing is to have mixed communities rather than expensive

:16:01. > :16:04.ghettos. They will be extremely expensive, the new units and it will

:16:05. > :16:08.be a precedent for every other site that comes up in the town centre.

:16:09. > :16:11.The council accepted the developers argument that providing affordable

:16:12. > :16:25.It is not viable for the developer to provide affordable housing but we

:16:26. > :16:27.can work together to see how this scheme can provide affordable

:16:28. > :16:30.housing that might not be on a different site.

:16:31. > :16:33.That will depend on the profit made by developers and

:16:34. > :16:37.But with more than 2,000 people on the housing waiting list, many

:16:38. > :16:44.residents are angry that affordable homes won't be built here.

:16:45. > :16:56.It is the young people. I think they need more affordable housing and

:16:57. > :16:59.probably more council. There is a demand for social housing in

:17:00. > :17:04.register. It is historical, they have sold for the council housing

:17:05. > :17:09.and now people who got afford to buy their own housing, are struggling.

:17:10. > :17:13.We don't own. We would like to buy and we will probably never be able

:17:14. > :17:37.to. Affordable housing would be amazing. It is pretty rubbish.

:17:38. > :17:41.Now the sport. Looking forward to the America's Cup. Then Ainsley has

:17:42. > :17:51.been trying to put a team together. Earlier today

:17:52. > :17:53.the six skippers gathered to speak And Sir Ben was confident he could

:17:54. > :17:58.achieve something no other British team has ever done `

:17:59. > :18:00.bring the famous trophy home. In the ultra`competitive,

:18:01. > :18:02.millionaire`funded world that is the America's Cup `

:18:03. > :18:04.it's an achievement to even get But Sir Ben Ainslie is

:18:05. > :18:16.making good headway. We are working hard with potential

:18:17. > :18:21.commercial partners which we hope to have in place by the end of the

:18:22. > :18:24.year. And we need the final dates and venues to be set in stone.

:18:25. > :18:27.He has the Prime Minister on board to the tune

:18:28. > :18:34.And planning permission for a ?12 million headquarters in Portsmouth.

:18:35. > :18:42.Part of having a team based there is integrating with the local

:18:43. > :18:45.community. More outreach programmes and getting youngsters from local

:18:46. > :18:47.schools and academies into sailing and out on the water and into the

:18:48. > :18:50.technical side of the sport. As a four`time Olympic sailing gold

:18:51. > :18:51.medallist, But heading up a team is

:18:52. > :19:01.a different proposition. And if that's not enough,

:19:02. > :19:03.he's also battling It is a huge task, but we would not

:19:04. > :19:16.go in it if we did not think we can The event is likely to be held

:19:17. > :19:18.in the US in 2017. Sir Ben Ainslie will be hoping to

:19:19. > :19:21.write another page And if he does,

:19:22. > :19:33.these waters could one day play host It is the best site in the UK and if

:19:34. > :19:37.we could win the America's Cup, that would be great.

:19:38. > :19:40.In rugby, London Irish full back Tom Homer has been ruled out

:19:41. > :19:43.for a minimum of eight weeks after suffering a knee ligament injury.

:19:44. > :19:46.Homer was only on the field for seven minutes in Saturday's

:19:47. > :19:48.fixture against Harlequins, before he was forced off.

:19:49. > :19:50.The injury is completely unrelated to the groin injury that kept him

:19:51. > :19:56.The new hockey season gets under way this coming weekend and despite both

:19:57. > :20:00.the men's and women's teams losing key players and installing

:20:01. > :20:07.Both teams travel to Surbiton on Saturday.

:20:08. > :20:09.At a recent Premier Division launch event,

:20:10. > :20:29.Looking forward to a new era for the club. I think we have good strength

:20:30. > :20:33.in depth in our club. They are class acts and it will be great to see

:20:34. > :20:40.them playing. They are brilliant players. Good luck to them.

:20:41. > :20:43.Former Southampton footballer Francis Benali now has just 4 days

:20:44. > :20:47.left of his epic 1,000 mile run between every Premier League ground.

:20:48. > :20:49.Today, Franny was running between Swindon and London `

:20:50. > :20:55.just the 41 miles He finishes at St Mary's Stadium on Saturday during

:20:56. > :21:02.You can help donate to the cause by going to the website

:21:03. > :21:17.Is as got to be served half, how many ice bath as he had? Not as many

:21:18. > :21:21.as he will do. She's now 94,

:21:22. > :21:24.and she's been living quietly in But in ten days' time Helen Wilson

:21:25. > :21:28.will be an honoured guest at events to commemorate the 70th anniversary

:21:29. > :21:31.of the famous Bridge Too Far battle Because unknown to most of her

:21:32. > :21:35.neighbours, Helen was a member of And not only did she help

:21:36. > :21:39.the British and Allied troops at Arnhem, she also survived

:21:40. > :21:42.capture, torture and a death Steve Humphrey has been

:21:43. > :22:04.hearing her remarkable story. She is one of the bravest of the

:22:05. > :22:08.brave. Now 94, Helen Wilson still remembers the anti`Nazi songs which

:22:09. > :22:15.Dutch people sang during the occupation. She lived in Arnhem,

:22:16. > :22:17.under a different name. In the resistance, health code name. In the

:22:18. > :22:24.resistance, health codename was honey. Get captured twice by the

:22:25. > :22:28.gist though, she was tortured and sentenced to death. People in her

:22:29. > :22:34.group was shot but she survived. Yes, I was very lucky to survive.

:22:35. > :22:39.The men did not survive. The men of our group did not survive soulful ``

:22:40. > :22:45.the men of our group did not survive. She escaped being stopped

:22:46. > :22:50.by and not the collaborator. I jumped on my back and raced away. I

:22:51. > :22:59.managed to avoid him. He shot, but it did not reach me. In 1944, the

:23:00. > :23:03.ILO 's launch the attempt to capture the bridge over the Rhine at

:23:04. > :23:06.Arnhem. The Dutch resistance was heavily involved as British and

:23:07. > :23:10.Polish soldiers struggled to withdraw. They all had to escape and

:23:11. > :23:18.hide somewhere because they couldn't get back. And the Dutch held them a

:23:19. > :23:25.lot, putting them up at great risk to themselves. Helen was eventually

:23:26. > :23:28.arrested by the Gestapo. She was tortured and sentenced to death. But

:23:29. > :23:32.she survived thanks to Canadian troops who advance on the building

:23:33. > :23:38.where she was waiting to be executed. The Germans just fled. The

:23:39. > :23:48.ones who were guarding us, they just scarpered. Total relief, total

:23:49. > :23:52.relief. I remember running home to my parents. After the war, Helen

:23:53. > :23:57.married an English army officer and moved here. Apart from an orange

:23:58. > :24:01.resistant armband issued in 1945, she said that she has had no

:24:02. > :24:08.official recognition from the Dutch government. They have not been very

:24:09. > :24:13.good. No. Helen is going to Arnhem next week for the 70th anniversary

:24:14. > :24:19.of the axle. She says it was her faith that played a large part in

:24:20. > :24:28.her survival against all the odds. I was a Christian. I am a Christian.

:24:29. > :24:36.And I think that kept me alive. Prayer, yes. Definitely.

:24:37. > :24:41.What a survivor. An amazing story there. Now the weather. Another

:24:42. > :24:45.gorgeous day, will it last? Absolutely. A high of 22 degrees

:24:46. > :25:08.inland. And lovely pictures. After a murky start this morning,

:25:09. > :25:13.things improved and we saw lots of sunshine. Barely a cloud for some.

:25:14. > :25:20.It little high cloud feeding in this afternoon. It will be a dry night

:25:21. > :25:27.tonight. The heat will radiate away. Temperatures will drop in the

:25:28. > :25:32.countryside. Very similar to butchers to last night. The mist and
