:00:16. > :00:21.Good evening, welcome. The headlines.

:00:21. > :00:26.An explosive alert in Somerset. A man is arrested and homes evacuated

:00:26. > :00:30.as the bomb squad is called off. With pickled and still in place,

:00:30. > :00:35.residents have no idea when they will be allowed home -- with the

:00:35. > :00:40.bomb squad in place. Corton the Act, the con man who

:00:40. > :00:43.stall post and their identities. Paying for the privilege, the

:00:43. > :00:52.companies that charge for work experience.

:00:52. > :00:56.I do not think 130 is enough for somebody to get this experience.

:00:56. > :01:04.And, a warm glow for campaigners two have saved a Portishead light

:01:04. > :01:08.house. Massvlakte who have saved.

:01:08. > :01:13.Part of Burnham on Sea is still closed after a man was arrested

:01:13. > :01:18.under the explosives Act. Police went into a house just before 8 am.

:01:19. > :01:23.Bomb disposal experts soon joined them. 50 homes on Beattie Way have

:01:23. > :01:33.been evacuated, and tonight the residents are being put up in it a

:01:33. > :01:37.rest centre nearby. What is happening? As you can see, the

:01:37. > :01:42.cordon is still up, people are still being prevented from getting

:01:42. > :01:48.back to their homes. The action is taking place out of sight, 100

:01:48. > :01:52.metres down there. Bomb-disposal people still at work at the house.

:01:52. > :01:57.We have no or idea when they will be finished. They are continuing

:01:57. > :02:05.the work they began nine hours ago. For the residents of this estate,

:02:05. > :02:10.it was an alarming wake-up call. This morning, at 7:45am, there were

:02:11. > :02:17.officers, who made entry. An hour afterwards, we were asked to

:02:17. > :02:23.evacuate. I was told we had to evacuate. I was told I could not go

:02:23. > :02:28.to the house, we have to come out. The police confirmed that at 7:45am

:02:28. > :02:32.they had executed a warrant under the explosives Act, and a man had

:02:32. > :02:36.been arrested. They said they had been acting on information they had

:02:36. > :02:40.received, but they were giving little else away. It is really

:02:40. > :02:46.important to stress that, at this stage, there is no evidence to

:02:46. > :02:50.suggest any link to either terrorism or domestic extremism.

:02:51. > :02:55.Army bomb disposal experts were called, and through the day they

:02:55. > :03:01.have been carrying out a search of the property. The house, the garden

:03:01. > :03:06.and outbuildings. An exclusion zone was set up, at and 50 houses were

:03:06. > :03:09.evacuated. Those who found themselves on the outside of the

:03:09. > :03:17.cordon were not even being allowed in to collect their pets. The

:03:17. > :03:23.police did it for them. They agreed to get him out for me. He is my new

:03:23. > :03:27.puppy, so why was concerned about him. The policeman was very

:03:27. > :03:31.concerned -- very kind. Those who have left their homes are being

:03:31. > :03:38.offered temporary shelter nearby. They have no idea how long they

:03:38. > :03:43.will be there. The man who has been arrested by police is being named

:03:43. > :03:47.locally, he works as a chef. As police continued their

:03:47. > :03:53.investigations, he is still being questioned.

:03:53. > :04:00.Throughout the day, information has been scarce. We have not been told

:04:00. > :04:03.what the police have found. I suppose the fact that the cordon is

:04:03. > :04:08.still up means that something has been found that causes concern.

:04:08. > :04:16.They say the cordon is full safety, it is a precaution, but residents

:04:16. > :04:26.are keen to know when they will be allowed back in. I am afraid at the

:04:26. > :04:27.

:04:27. > :04:31.moment I cannot help them, because A pilot at Bristol airport has been

:04:31. > :04:35.stopped from flying a passenger plane to Ireland after he failed a

:04:35. > :04:41.breath test shortly before take-off. He was due to be piloting a flight

:04:41. > :04:45.to court yesterday evening with 24 people on board. The pilot later

:04:45. > :04:50.passed a second breath test at a police station. The operator says

:04:50. > :04:54.it is investigating, and that safety is its top priority.

:04:54. > :05:02.A conman who stole the identities of people in Somerset has admitted

:05:02. > :05:07.fraud today. Kevin Castle targeted residents with unsecured

:05:07. > :05:10.letterboxes, and stole their personal details. Today he pleaded

:05:10. > :05:15.guilty to 27 charges of fraud and one charge of money laundering. He

:05:15. > :05:21.will be sentenced along with his partner, who has also admitted four

:05:21. > :05:27.charges of fraud. The post and was not the only one

:05:27. > :05:33.to ring the Browns in this secluded village -- Postman. Often, he was

:05:33. > :05:37.closely followed by Kevin Castle, out of his daily round, and he was

:05:37. > :05:46.not delivering mail, he was stealing it. Again and again and

:05:46. > :05:51.again. Then, using the personal details he stole, he set up

:05:51. > :05:55.numerous fraudulent credit card accounts. He would turn around,

:05:55. > :05:59.come back up... For his luck ran out when he targeted the letterbox

:05:59. > :06:06.of this man. There he became suspicious that somebody was

:06:06. > :06:15.tampering with his male, so he turned detective. -- quit his post.

:06:15. > :06:20.I put in a camera. I try to solve the mystery. I put it up on the

:06:20. > :06:27.Monday, and for the whole of the week, I captured in that was coming

:06:27. > :06:32.to my house --, captured the man that was coming to my house. He

:06:32. > :06:36.deserves everything that he gets. The number of cards acquired

:06:36. > :06:41.enabled Kevin Castle and his partner to fund a lavish lifestyle.

:06:41. > :06:46.They lived here, in this impressive rented property near Wellington,

:06:46. > :06:51.complete with paddocks and stables, which they used to house their six

:06:51. > :06:55.horses. Here, they are captured on CCTV, using a fraudulent credit

:06:55. > :07:00.card on one of their frequent extravagant spending sprees.

:07:00. > :07:06.They've added thousands of pounds of debt. Steve's letterbox made him

:07:06. > :07:12.vulnerable. Many people have an unsecured letterbox, away from the

:07:12. > :07:18.main entrance of the house. Even a piece of drainpipes that any age is

:07:18. > :07:23.not an uncommon sight. -- stuck in a hedge. Letterboxes like this made

:07:23. > :07:26.it too easy for him to gather the information he needed to apply for

:07:26. > :07:29.a card, and then return to intercept subsequent male that

:07:29. > :07:35.would otherwise have alerted householders that something was

:07:35. > :07:39.amiss. This type of crime is happening on a daily basis. My

:07:39. > :07:45.advice would be, to not have a postbox at the bottom of your drive.

:07:45. > :07:49.It is the safest way, to have it through your front door. Most

:07:49. > :07:53.victims remain oblivious their identity has been stolen and debts

:07:53. > :07:58.run up in their name until they received a demand for payment on a

:07:58. > :08:03.credit card they knew nothing about. Steve says it never crossed his

:08:03. > :08:07.mind that somebody might still his identity. After this bitter

:08:07. > :08:13.experience, he is heeding police advice and making sure his post

:08:13. > :08:17.never falls into the wrong hands again.

:08:17. > :08:21.Some young people here are so desperate to get work experience,

:08:21. > :08:25.they are willing to pay for it. In some cases, they are handing over

:08:25. > :08:30.more than 100 a day in the hope it will give them an edge over the

:08:30. > :08:34.competition. Won the students' union says it is unfair, because

:08:34. > :08:40.not everyone can afford it. Would you like to be able to take

:08:40. > :08:46.pictures like this? Photographer Graham Light will teach you for 95

:08:46. > :08:49.a day. What they will get is my experience of 35 years. I also

:08:49. > :08:55.think they put more value on it if they have invested some of their

:08:55. > :09:02.money into that. It is not what I am doing to make money, because I

:09:02. > :09:06.would normally charge a lot more than duck for a day. -- than that.

:09:06. > :09:10.He signed up with the Somerset company. It takes a cut for putting

:09:10. > :09:16.people in touch with small businesses, which, for a daily fee,

:09:16. > :09:20.will provide work experience and training. We give them high-class

:09:20. > :09:24.training, next to the business owner. Getting people to pay for

:09:24. > :09:28.the work experience, that is not exploiting desperate young people?

:09:28. > :09:35.I pay for training, I go for conferences, I purchase books and

:09:35. > :09:39.courses. People have to pay for experience. You have to be trained,

:09:39. > :09:46.and if you want to get trained, you have to pay. If you want to be a

:09:46. > :09:53.copywriter, you could get that experience for a modest sum. You

:09:54. > :09:57.are worth the person paying you for that? I do not think 130 is enough

:09:57. > :10:00.for somebody to get the kind of experience they can get here.

:10:00. > :10:05.Students know they have little or no chance of getting a job without

:10:05. > :10:10.some form of work experience. But the idea of paying for it has not

:10:10. > :10:17.gone down well with everyone. Companies that as it in turns to

:10:17. > :10:20.pay to work for free are exploiting young unemployed people's the band

:10:21. > :10:26.for work experience. It is unfair and it looks out huge swathes of

:10:26. > :10:32.the country who cannot afford to work for free. Would you pay to get

:10:32. > :10:38.work experience? Tough decisions ahead for students. They must work

:10:38. > :10:42.out the true value of work experience.

:10:42. > :10:52.There will be a debate about that subject in the Sunday politics this

:10:52. > :10:52.

:10:52. > :10:57.We will have the weekend weather shortly.

:10:57. > :11:00.Plus, white a rap artist was jailed for his role in the Gloucester

:11:00. > :11:06.riots, even though the job -- even though the judge said he was not

:11:06. > :11:11.involved in violence. An inquest has heard how a

:11:11. > :11:16.pensioner died within hours of being burgled. Pauline Reddick was

:11:16. > :11:21.80 years old when two men broke into her home. Shortly afterwards,

:11:21. > :11:24.she had a stroke. Today, a coroner recorded a narrative verdict and

:11:24. > :11:29.said come on the balance of probability, there was likely to

:11:29. > :11:34.have been a link between the incidents.

:11:34. > :11:39.Pauline Reddick was, her family said, not atypical 80 year old.

:11:39. > :11:43.was amazing, she was extremely fit, physically and mentally, just a

:11:43. > :11:51.couple of weeks before she had been on a narrowboat holiday with us,

:11:51. > :11:58.and she had been operating the locks, like somebody much under. --

:11:58. > :12:02.much younger. She had been on a walking weekend. Tonight they got

:12:02. > :12:07.back, she and her daughter were asleep. She went into her daughter,

:12:07. > :12:11.saying she could hear somebody downstairs. She was, her daughter

:12:11. > :12:17.said, terrified. They hid in the bedroom and phoned the police, but

:12:17. > :12:22.within half an hour, she had suffered a stroke. Two 18 year-olds,

:12:22. > :12:26.Liam Cunliffe and lyrical pit, admitted breaking into her home.

:12:26. > :12:31.They were sent to a young offenders' institute last summer.

:12:31. > :12:35.Charges of manslaughter against him were dropped. Her inquest was told

:12:35. > :12:39.today she was taking medication for high blood pressure, and she had

:12:39. > :12:43.other underlying health problems. Medical experts said it was

:12:43. > :12:47.impossible to say for certain that there was a link between the break-

:12:47. > :12:53.in and her death. But today, my pathologist told the coroner he

:12:53. > :12:57.felt intuitively that this was the case. The coroner agreed there was

:12:57. > :13:01.no scientific certainty, but said, on the balance of probability, her

:13:01. > :13:07.death was linked to the burglary. She was the first person to a

:13:07. > :13:10.break-up, she worked my sister at, she was completely cognitive, she

:13:10. > :13:16.knew there were people in the house, she had a conversation on the

:13:16. > :13:21.telephone, and within 20 minutes, she deteriorated. Her family said

:13:21. > :13:31.today they welcomed the decision, and they had nobody else would have

:13:31. > :13:32.

:13:32. > :13:35.to survive the ordeal that they had A lorry driver from Yeovil has been

:13:35. > :13:37.arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a fuel tanker crashed

:13:37. > :13:40.into a bungalow in a Dorset village. The property in Wool was severely

:13:40. > :13:42.damaged after it caught on fire when the tanker hit it. The woman

:13:42. > :13:49.who lives there was not injured. Police say the 51-year-old driver

:13:49. > :13:52.is known to the homeowner. An innovative drug treatment centre

:13:52. > :13:54.that helped mothers with babies in Bristol has announced it's to close.

:13:54. > :13:57.Naomi House worked with women who have children under five, helping

:13:57. > :14:00.them off drugs and out of the sex trade. But today the One-25 Group

:14:00. > :14:02.who ran it said a lack of funds is forcing them to close. The centre

:14:02. > :14:10.opened three years ago and was the only service of its kind

:14:10. > :14:17.specifically for mother and babies. A new a musician has been sent to

:14:17. > :14:24.jail after taking part in the Gloucester riots. -- a musician.

:14:24. > :14:29.Kieran Newell had not been violent, but his behaviour was seen as

:14:29. > :14:34.disgraceful. Kieran Newell, seen here in the

:14:34. > :14:40.white hoodie, tabs on a shop window and then disappears as other

:14:40. > :14:44.rioters at 10 to keep their way into the shop. The court heard how

:14:44. > :14:52.he did the decent thing and owned up, pleading guilty to violent

:14:52. > :14:56.conduct. The judge told him what happened in Gloucester was a

:14:56. > :15:00.disgrace and the sentencing was to be a deterrent. But the judge

:15:00. > :15:07.admitted that Newell had not taken part in the violence, but he still

:15:07. > :15:11.had to send him to jail. Following the summer riots, judges were given

:15:11. > :15:18.guidelines on sentencing. someone who had not been in trouble

:15:18. > :15:23.before, you think why should they go to prison? It is to say to

:15:23. > :15:32.people, if you can make this kind of offence, you will go to prison.

:15:32. > :15:39.The judge added that Newell was a talented musician. However, the

:15:39. > :15:43.court was told that he had a previous conviction involving Class

:15:43. > :15:49.A jobs. Gloucestershire Police said they've dealt quickly with the riot

:15:49. > :15:53.and are satisfied with the sentencing dealt out to the rioters.

:15:53. > :15:57.We were disappointed that a small minority of people came into the

:15:57. > :16:07.city centre and caused that disorder, but the police had

:16:07. > :16:11.

:16:11. > :16:15.conducted a thorough investigation and have arrested 42 people.

:16:15. > :16:17.The culling of wild boar in the Forest of Dean is to be suspended

:16:17. > :16:20.until September. The Forestry Commission has been shooting the

:16:20. > :16:23.animals in an effort to control numbers, but has now put the plan

:16:23. > :16:26.on hold amidst concerns the boar could be eradicated. Campaigners

:16:26. > :16:33.have welcomed the move saying the animals will now be allowed time to

:16:33. > :16:36.roam and breed stress-free. One of the country's biggest

:16:36. > :16:41.motorbike dealers George White, which is based in Swindon, has gone

:16:41. > :16:46.into administration. The company has branches around the UK and a

:16:46. > :16:52.turnover worth 25 million. Poor sales and a tough market are being

:16:52. > :16:56.blamed for the failure and the loss of 61 jobs. Some staff have been

:16:56. > :16:59.retained to complete customers' orders.

:16:59. > :17:06.It's a crucial phase of the football season as two new managers

:17:06. > :17:09.try to make their mark. We're just past the half way point and all our

:17:09. > :17:12.sides are involved in battles at one end of the table or the other.

:17:12. > :17:20.Let's get the assessment of our expert Geoff Twentyman, who's with

:17:20. > :17:23.David Passmore. Yes, two new managers since we last

:17:23. > :17:27.spoke - Gary Johnson at Yeovil and Mark McGhee this week installed at

:17:27. > :17:36.Bristol Rovers. Not an easy start for him in the derby at Cheltenham.

:17:36. > :17:46.Now you remember him from his playing days? Yes. He was at

:17:46. > :17:56.Newcastle and I was at Bristol Rovers. Good to see him this week.

:17:56. > :17:56.

:17:56. > :18:01.He was a tough player and has high standards. If he is watching

:18:01. > :18:11.tonight, I am sorry for the odd kick I may have given him.

:18:11. > :18:11.

:18:11. > :18:19.Cheltenham, that a tricky one. Steve Elliott will be missed. He

:18:19. > :18:29.has a calf problem. Mark Yates, a little bit dismissive about it.

:18:29. > :18:29.

:18:29. > :18:34.am not worried. We know what they are about. They have got good

:18:34. > :18:43.players and we are not kidding ourselves. But it is about us being

:18:43. > :18:48.as good as we can be. Yeovil go to bury macro. They got a crucial win.

:18:48. > :18:56.Yeah us. Dramatic stuff. Andy Williams with a goal. It is a pity

:18:56. > :19:02.we don't see Gary Johnson at this point. It is an important win for

:19:02. > :19:09.Gary. A bottle to difference can he make? It is the X Factor with him.

:19:09. > :19:17.He is such a character. He knows his football. He affects people and

:19:17. > :19:21.he is very charismatic. A tough game tomorrow. He has bought four

:19:22. > :19:25.players in already, so it is important they knit together.

:19:25. > :19:30.do Bristol city need to do to get out of that danger zone? They need

:19:30. > :19:40.to score. They have only scored 10 goals at Ashton Gate, which is

:19:40. > :19:46.

:19:46. > :19:56.nowhere near enough. Swindon hoping to get some goals from their new

:19:56. > :19:57.

:19:57. > :20:03.signing. Yes. A good name, isn't it, Rooney? No relation. They got him

:20:03. > :20:13.from Gillingham and he is not short of ability and confidence. They are

:20:13. > :20:21.

:20:21. > :20:31.five points away from the play-offs. Paolo Di Canio has apologised to

:20:31. > :20:38.

:20:38. > :20:48.his players for calling them she why ours. -- she Weller. They are

:20:48. > :20:51.

:20:51. > :21:01.like young rottweilers. After a few months they are now adults

:21:01. > :21:04.

:21:04. > :21:07.rottweilers. It is a dog's live playing for Swindon! -- life.

:21:07. > :21:10.In rugby, a cracking game in prospect tonight at Kingsholm.

:21:10. > :21:12.Still time to get down there for the visit of four-times European

:21:12. > :21:15.Champions Toulouse. Gloucester have failed to qualify for the final

:21:15. > :21:18.stages of the European Cup, but have put out a full strength side,

:21:18. > :21:21.while Toulouse need a win to help secure a home quarter-final tie.

:21:21. > :21:24.Bath also play Glasgow tomorrow. The London Olympics are just six

:21:24. > :21:27.months away and many athletes are still battling to secure their

:21:27. > :21:31.place at their Games. On Sunday evening there's a special programme

:21:31. > :21:33.showcasing some of those from the west hoping to be there. From Peter

:21:34. > :21:36.Reed, who's already won Olympic gold, and paralympian Ben Rushgrove,

:21:36. > :21:44.to those who are just struggling to qualify, like trampolinist Laura

:21:44. > :21:47.Gallagher. West Olympic Dreams is on this Sunday on BBC One at 5pm.

:21:47. > :21:56.And your local radio station's breakfast show will also be

:21:56. > :22:06.catching up with your Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls all next week.

:22:06. > :22:11.

:22:11. > :22:14.Thank you. Now, a story that should keep you a warm glow. -- should

:22:14. > :22:17.give you. A disused lighthouse in Portishead

:22:17. > :22:20.is being officially handed over to the Trust that saved it tonight.

:22:20. > :22:22.People living near the Black Nore lighthouse campaigned to stop it

:22:22. > :22:25.being knocked down after it was decommissioned two years ago. Chris

:22:25. > :22:28.James has been to see it. Standing guard on the Bristol

:22:28. > :22:31.Channel. The Black Nore lighthouse has been on duty here on the coast

:22:31. > :22:34.of Portishead for 120 years now. But in recent times, storm clouds

:22:34. > :22:44.have been gathering over its future. Decommissioned, it was due to be

:22:44. > :22:45.

:22:45. > :22:50.demolished. Like the tide, it's famous light went out. The lantern

:22:50. > :22:59.it floated on top of the mercury said that it could easily be turned

:23:04. > :23:06.coming through the glass would set the place on fire.

:23:06. > :23:09.This pepper pot lighthouse is exceptionally rare. It was

:23:09. > :23:13.clockwork, and needed winding every day. Four generations of the same

:23:13. > :23:16.family were responsible for it over 80 years. It's also the last of its

:23:16. > :23:19.kind on the British shoreline With six legs, designed to survive high

:23:19. > :23:29.tides that regularly breached its foundations. But it's position is

:23:29. > :23:31.

:23:31. > :23:36.very significant. Ships coming along here come in the deep-water

:23:36. > :23:40.channel. As we get to this part, it start to narrow and the water is

:23:41. > :23:44.shallow. Without the light, people would not know if they were getting

:23:44. > :23:47.close to land. Tonight the owners of Black Nore

:23:47. > :23:51.lighthouse officially hand it over to a Trust made up of local

:23:51. > :23:53.residents. They have vowed to look after it, as it has looked after

:23:53. > :23:56.thousands of ships that have passed before it.

:23:56. > :24:01.This light lighthouse may not be needed by the big ships using the

:24:01. > :24:11.Channel any more, but it is needed by the town. It's part of

:24:11. > :24:18.Portishead's history and its now here to stay.

:24:18. > :24:22.There is something very romantic about a light house, isn't there?

:24:22. > :24:25.Yes, it's very sweet. Now just time to mention that a

:24:25. > :24:28.rather unusual collection of Action Man accessories is going under the

:24:28. > :24:32.hammer this evening. It was the must-have toy of the late 1960s and

:24:32. > :24:35.became a massive hit for little boys up and down the country. The

:24:35. > :24:38.set's owned by a man from London who's stored it in his mother's

:24:38. > :24:40.attic in Dorset since he left home. Bidding on the outfits and

:24:40. > :24:50.equipment is happening right now. Experts say the collection could

:24:50. > :25:00.make up to 10,000. It just goes to show, you do not know what

:25:00. > :25:03.

:25:03. > :25:11.treasures lurk in the loft. And now for the weather.

:25:11. > :25:19.We are in a warm-up sector, if you can believe that! But it is mild

:25:19. > :25:29.for this time of the year, and so it shall continue for some of the

:25:29. > :25:30.

:25:30. > :25:35.weekend. There will be patchy, like rain, but nothing significant. We

:25:35. > :25:45.have this warm sector which is followed by a cold front tomorrow

:25:45. > :25:45.

:25:45. > :25:53.morning. Sunday, the latter part look dry and bright, so does Monday.

:25:53. > :25:59.But on Tuesday it will be milder, wetter and windier. Tonight, a good

:25:59. > :26:07.deal of cloud around. There is some patchy light rain. It will remain

:26:07. > :26:11.pretty breezy with gusts up to 35mph. Temperatures will not

:26:11. > :26:20.dropped, so at seven or eight Celsius will be typical. Saturday

:26:20. > :26:26.morning will start with a large amount of cloud. It will be quite

:26:26. > :26:36.damp as well. In the afternoon it should start to brighten up. For

:26:36. > :26:37.

:26:37. > :26:44.many of us it will be windy as well. Temperatures peaking at around 11

:26:44. > :26:54.degrees Celsius tomorrow, but they will drop away when the cold front
