:00:15. > :00:19.Welcome to the programme. The headlines: Buried for 10 days and a

:00:19. > :00:22.landslide. Amman and women missing from

:00:22. > :00:32.Somerset are found dead in their car in a tunnel.

:00:32. > :00:33.

:00:33. > :00:37.A family speak of their devastation over the deaths of a father and

:00:37. > :00:43.three children. We have three young children who have been murdered,

:00:43. > :00:46.and we're in the process of establishing how that came to be.

:00:46. > :00:50.Jailed for two-and-a-half years, the Cheltenham man making

:00:50. > :00:55.explosives in his garage. And life after the Olympics. How

:00:55. > :01:04.cash from the Games is helping the local clubs find tomorrow's medal

:01:04. > :01:07.winners. First tonight, a man and women from

:01:07. > :01:14.Somerset have been found dead more than a week after their car was

:01:14. > :01:19.buried under tons of earth in a vehicle in Dorset. The vehicle was

:01:19. > :01:24.discovered in Beaminster last night. The landslide happened after

:01:24. > :01:27.flooding caused all landslide. Undiscovered for 10 days. A car

:01:27. > :01:34.containing bodies of an elderly man and woman was buried under this

:01:34. > :01:38.Lancelot. We filmed here last week, oblivious to what lay beneath. Only

:01:38. > :01:47.today was the car recovered after Avon and Somerset police last night

:01:47. > :01:51.traced two missing people. Members of the public may ask why it took

:01:51. > :01:57.10 days to discover the bodies. I offer my condolences to families of

:01:57. > :02:02.those who perished, but it was a very busy weekend, there were no

:02:03. > :02:06.obvious signs of a vehicle buried. There were several hundred tons of

:02:06. > :02:13.mud. There were no reports of missing people in the area. The

:02:13. > :02:16.bridge had been secured safely, and it was only when concerns were

:02:16. > :02:22.raised by the police yesterday that we began to search, and the vehicle

:02:22. > :02:28.was discovered. The discovery of the bodies has caused shock in the

:02:28. > :02:32.village. What really shocks me is that no one thought to search the

:02:32. > :02:37.tunnel when it happened. Surely cars could have been going through

:02:37. > :02:40.when it collapsed. I think everyone just cannot believe it has happened.

:02:40. > :02:46.You cannot believe someone has been there for more than a week. I

:02:46. > :02:51.cannot believe it at all. It is shocking, horrifying. It could have

:02:51. > :02:54.happened to anyone. Everyone is amazed that no one else has died.

:02:55. > :02:58.The landslide is believed to have been caused by prolonged heavy rain

:02:58. > :03:07.and flooding in the area. The ground is vulnerable to such

:03:07. > :03:11.landslides. Because that area is built on porous rock which carries

:03:11. > :03:18.a lot of water beneath the surface, it is always going to be prone to

:03:18. > :03:22.Lancelot, especially when there is so much rainfall. -- prone to

:03:22. > :03:31.landslides. The board remains closed us officers continue their

:03:31. > :03:36.investigations. No one could say when the road might open.

:03:36. > :03:46.In the last half-hour, we have learned that one of the victims was

:03:46. > :03:49.Rosemary Snell. She was well known in the Women's Institute. She was

:03:49. > :03:59.also a trustee of the Henhaze Community Centre. Fellow trustees

:03:59. > :04:01.

:04:01. > :04:05.spoke of her son -- the sadness to the ride. Total shock. She was one

:04:05. > :04:09.of those people who would benefit us and the community for a long

:04:09. > :04:15.time to come because of her knowledge and outgoing personality.

:04:15. > :04:19.She was wonderful. Horrified. The fact that she must have been there

:04:19. > :04:24.10 days. No one had thought of looking. Does that surprise you?

:04:24. > :04:28.Yes, definitely. You would think someone would have looked through

:04:28. > :04:31.what was in the tunnel and made inquiries.

:04:31. > :04:37.The Gloucestershire mother of three children found dead in a wood land

:04:37. > :04:40.in Shropshire has spoken of her complete devastation and grief. The

:04:40. > :04:44.bodies of seven year-old Charlotte, eight year-old Becker, and Twelve-

:04:44. > :04:50.year-old some were discovered yesterday, along with the body of

:04:50. > :04:53.their father. -- Becka. Police say they are investigating

:04:53. > :04:59.whether Ceri Fuller killed his son and daughters before taking his own

:04:59. > :05:09.life, and they confirmed tonight has been found near the crime scene.

:05:09. > :05:11.

:05:11. > :05:17.-- and an knife has been found. This morning this church was full

:05:17. > :05:21.of school friends of some, Rebecca and Charlie. You can see paper

:05:21. > :05:24.hearts used in the service this morning. Today has been another

:05:24. > :05:30.difficult day for the community, after the shock and sadness of

:05:30. > :05:40.yesterday, as more details emerge. The thought that Ceri Fuller may

:05:40. > :05:46.have taken his own children's life fund in his own is difficult for

:05:46. > :05:50.people to comprehend. His wife Ruth has released a statement which says,

:05:50. > :05:55.I do not have the words to describe how I feel at the moment. All I ask

:05:55. > :05:59.as I am left alone to grieve for my family. Near the scene where the

:05:59. > :06:02.bodies were found, a token of respect from those of a similar age.

:06:02. > :06:07.They would not have known each other, but the tragedy has touched

:06:07. > :06:11.everyone living here. Today chilling news from within the

:06:11. > :06:19.murder investigation, that one major line of inquiry, Ceri Fuller

:06:19. > :06:23.may have killed his children before killing himself. We discovered a

:06:23. > :06:30.knife at the scene today, which is going for forensic examination

:06:30. > :06:34.later to see what involvement it played. A post-mortem examination

:06:34. > :06:38.is taking place today, running into tomorrow. We have had another

:06:38. > :06:42.assessment of the crime scene, and there are officers arriving to do a

:06:42. > :06:45.thorough search of it. It has always been revealed that ambulance

:06:45. > :06:50.-- by ambulance crews that nothing could have been done to save the

:06:50. > :07:00.family. A family statement was released today from Ceri Fuller's

:07:00. > :07:08.

:07:08. > :07:12.His relationship with them was one of involvement and nurturing. They

:07:12. > :07:16.were such charming children brought up in an environment of love. We

:07:16. > :07:22.cannot begin to imagine what was going through the mind of such a

:07:22. > :07:25.gentle man to drive and to such tragic actions. Back in the Forest

:07:25. > :07:32.of Dean, the grief and the community is wrong. Last night,

:07:32. > :07:40.organised by the parents, a candlelit vigil was held at the

:07:40. > :07:45.school where Charlie and Rebecca were pupils. We are in deep shock.

:07:45. > :07:52.It is not nice. It is just devastating. Three lovely children,

:07:52. > :07:59.a lovely family. Did you know the family? Yes, we have had one of the

:07:59. > :08:04.giggles over for tea. She was a lovely girl. -- one of the girls.

:08:04. > :08:13.She was lovely. Very lively. What was supposed to be a leaving

:08:13. > :08:19.service today became a memorial service instead. I asked people to

:08:19. > :08:26.bring their sad, angry, bad feelings, and to offer them, and

:08:26. > :08:36.Italy to remember the good, happy feelings that really drew them to

:08:36. > :08:36.

:08:36. > :08:41.Charlotte and Rebecca and to some. The focus is now one -- now to help

:08:41. > :08:51.people grieving. We ask people to hold a heart in the hands and think

:08:51. > :08:51.

:08:51. > :08:55.of all their feelings, the bad feelings, confusion, and then be

:08:55. > :09:00.collect them in, and place them here, as a sense of laying down the

:09:00. > :09:04.feelings and offering them to God. It was very moving. At the home

:09:04. > :09:10.where the family led an apparently quiet life, a team have been

:09:10. > :09:15.searching bedrooms and belongings. They are focusing on whether a

:09:15. > :09:18.father indeed felt compelled to take the lives of his children.

:09:18. > :09:25.It is fair to say that it is becoming a focal point for the

:09:25. > :09:29.community at the church. There are books of condolence here. They have

:09:29. > :09:33.had the covers decorated by classmates from St John's Primary.

:09:33. > :09:39.There has been a steady stream of people coming to leave messages of

:09:39. > :09:42.love and support. Their memories, their feelings. Including the

:09:42. > :09:44.teachers and staff from the school. We have got to remember that they

:09:45. > :09:50.are trying to deal with keeping the school running as normal, helping

:09:50. > :09:54.to support those young children, and also dealing with the Greeks

:09:54. > :09:58.themselves. There have been many messages and images in the story. I

:09:58. > :10:08.can leave you with one tonight. From the reception class, its is

:10:08. > :10:10.

:10:10. > :10:19.simpler, -- it says simply, we will miss playing with you for.

:10:19. > :10:21.Stay with us, as there is plenty more to bring tonight.

:10:21. > :10:25.Swindon is the fastest growing place in the south-west.

:10:25. > :10:28.And a change in the weather pattern is on the way by the tail-end of

:10:28. > :10:33.this week and into the weekend. There is the promise of some fine

:10:33. > :10:38.summer weather. Join me for details and an explanation as to why it is

:10:38. > :10:42.happening. We look forward to that forecast

:10:42. > :10:47.later. First, more news tonight. A grandfather from Cheltenham has

:10:47. > :10:50.been sent to prison for making explosives in his garage. Martin

:10:50. > :10:56.Counsell was caught after counter- terrorism police became suspicious

:10:56. > :10:59.when he tried to buy a fake MI6 identity card on the internet. He

:10:59. > :11:07.said the explosives were to protect his home from burglars, but they

:11:07. > :11:11.could have caused serious injury. Martin Counsell was a professional

:11:11. > :11:15.Electrical Engineer. After years of alcohol abuse, his marriage and

:11:15. > :11:21.business broke down. He became increasingly reclusive. He

:11:21. > :11:25.developed an obsessive fear or of his home being burgled. Inside his

:11:25. > :11:28.garage, his skill as an Engineer meant he was able to manufacture

:11:28. > :11:33.the same explosive used by terrorists in the London should

:11:33. > :11:40.bombings. He bought many of the party needed on eBay. Counter-

:11:40. > :11:43.terrorism police picked up his activity. Martin Counsell's defence

:11:43. > :11:49.team said the explosives were his own solution for scaring off

:11:49. > :11:54.burglars, but in court, the judge said that he was a very lonely man,

:11:54. > :11:58.making things in his garage which he should not have been. In May

:11:58. > :12:03.this year, the area was cordoned off, and his home and garage were

:12:03. > :12:08.searched. He admitted making 10 small bombs. More than 600 people

:12:08. > :12:13.were evacuated while experts carried out controlled explosives.

:12:13. > :12:18.A search of his computer showed that he had researched extensively

:12:18. > :12:21.techniques to make a bomb. The explosive he developed was one of

:12:21. > :12:29.her used commercially because it is so unstable, detonated by friction

:12:29. > :12:39.or a single spark. It also uncovered a home-made rocket

:12:39. > :12:44.

:12:44. > :12:50.launcher. The court recognised that he went beyond reasonable behaviour,

:12:50. > :12:55.by it was not a terrorist. It is very easy for people to make

:12:55. > :12:58.explosives, unfortunately, in their own home. After his arrest, Martin

:12:58. > :13:03.Counsell wrote to a local newspaper to say he was sorry for what he had

:13:03. > :13:08.done. Now suffering from chronic liver problems, his life expectancy

:13:08. > :13:12.is only a few years. What he saw as a burglar booby trap, counter-

:13:12. > :13:22.terrorist police of as a dangerous bomb. He was given two and a half

:13:22. > :13:26.

:13:26. > :13:30.years in prison, and will be A report out today says the West's

:13:30. > :13:34.biggest hospital trust was not properly prepared to introduce a

:13:34. > :13:38.multi-million-pound computer system which caused chaos for patients.

:13:38. > :13:42.According to the findings of an independent review, staff at

:13:42. > :13:47.Frenchay and Southmead hospitals were not adequately trained and

:13:47. > :13:51.could not cope. He any patience journey to our

:13:51. > :13:55.hospital appointments should be seamless, but in a largish Trust,

:13:55. > :14:00.patients and staff have been let down by the introduction of a new

:14:00. > :14:04.computer booking system which gave hundreds a false appointment. That

:14:04. > :14:09.is according to a review into the way it was rolled out. David Serle

:14:09. > :14:14.was one of the many people to contact us. He turned up for two

:14:14. > :14:20.consultations only to be turned away. I was met by a nurse who said,

:14:20. > :14:25.are you for the clinic? I said, yes. She said, oh no, not another one.

:14:25. > :14:30.Behind her were about another six people in the same situation as me

:14:30. > :14:35.finding that the clinic had been cancelled. The review concluded the

:14:35. > :14:40.trust lack skilled resources, training was inadequate and that

:14:40. > :14:47.external help offered at the time was refused. North Bristol should

:14:47. > :14:52.have learned from two earlier go live's in Bath and Oxford. Any just

:14:52. > :14:56.thinking of doing a project on this scale is to look carefully at their

:14:56. > :15:01.experience and the experience of other trusts in the NHS. The trust

:15:01. > :15:06.has now had to spend more than 4.5 million on correcting the problems.

:15:06. > :15:10.Today it is business as usual. The booking system is up and running

:15:10. > :15:15.and the trust have declined a request for an interview, but in a

:15:15. > :15:20.statement they say, overall implementation went as planned, but

:15:20. > :15:25.there were problems in theatres and with out-patient clinics were false

:15:25. > :15:29.appointments were set-up. The trust have again apologised, but stress

:15:29. > :15:33.that patient safety was not compromised.

:15:33. > :15:37.The man in charge is leaving the trust in August. The hospital say

:15:37. > :15:41.Martin Bell will be moving on to new challenges after a decade where

:15:41. > :15:46.there has been a radical improvement in their information

:15:46. > :15:52.technology. One of two men on trial for

:15:52. > :15:56.shooting dead a 21 year-old during a gun battle in Bristol was today

:15:56. > :16:00.accused of talking nonsense in the witness box. Shakah Anderson is

:16:01. > :16:05.alleged to be one of three gunmen who opened fire on the night of the

:16:05. > :16:09.St Paul's Carnival last year. He denies the charge. Our Home Affairs

:16:10. > :16:13.Correspondent was in court. Rico Gordon died in the arms of his

:16:13. > :16:18.sister as he was caught in the crossfire between two rival groups

:16:18. > :16:24.who had driven down from London. The prosecution claimed that Shakah

:16:24. > :16:29.Anderson, seen here, and Rickel Adams were among the gunmen

:16:29. > :16:33.shooting at each other. Rico Gordon died from a bullet wound to the

:16:33. > :16:39.head. When asked by his lawyer if he was carrying a gun in Bristol,

:16:39. > :16:43.Shakah Anderson replied, definitely not. He also denied sing again in

:16:43. > :16:49.the car he had travelled in. Giving evidence, Shakah Anderson

:16:49. > :16:55.said he was at a home in Bristol at the time of the shooting. However,

:16:55. > :17:00.the woman said he visited her two weeks before that night.

:17:00. > :17:04.Under cross-examination he denied having an argument with Rickel

:17:04. > :17:10.Adams or knowing we care Gordon. When asked if he shot at Rickel

:17:10. > :17:13.Adams he replied, no, I did not. He later admitted he had known

:17:13. > :17:23.Rickel Adams for many years and said he treated his mother like an

:17:23. > :17:27.

:17:27. > :17:30.aunt. They both deny murder. It is official, the South West has

:17:30. > :17:36.the largest proportion of elderly people anywhere in the country and

:17:36. > :17:39.it is growing fast. One in five of our residents of 65

:17:39. > :17:42.or over, according to last year's census results which have just been

:17:42. > :17:49.published. Overall, the region's population

:17:49. > :17:54.grew by 7% in the last decade. Yes, the south-west has changed

:17:54. > :17:58.dramatically over the 10 years to 2011. The census provides an

:17:58. > :18:04.intriguing insight into the way we are changing and growing.

:18:04. > :18:08.Population is up, but some places are growing faster. There are 10%

:18:08. > :18:14.more people in Bristol while the rising cost and North Dorset was

:18:14. > :18:20.11%. The sharpest rise was Swindon which recorded a whopping 16%

:18:20. > :18:25.increase. More babies per 1000 are born in

:18:25. > :18:31.this bustling Welsh a town than anywhere else in Britain. Swindon

:18:31. > :18:38.baby booming in 1947. And the rapid population growth continues to this

:18:38. > :18:42.day, there now it is mostly people coming here to work. New homes, new

:18:42. > :18:47.lives for these relatively new arrivals. Lots for the children,

:18:47. > :18:50.good schools, so why things. You get here they are good jobs and it

:18:50. > :18:55.is difficult to leave. I came here because I have relatives in

:18:55. > :19:00.Somerset and London and Kent and I wanted to be the everybody. I just

:19:00. > :19:04.feel really welcome here. I have never felt so welcome so quickly.

:19:04. > :19:09.All those new families are part of Swindon's massive growth. Family is

:19:09. > :19:13.a living here on this housing development on the south side of

:19:13. > :19:18.Swindon which has now advanced so far that the town is batting up

:19:18. > :19:23.onto the M4. Old maps show Swindon's sustained

:19:23. > :19:28.growth. A town of their 18 eighties which boomed around his railway

:19:28. > :19:34.works well into the 1940s. When Rail were declined, the carmakers

:19:34. > :19:38.came to town. Honda among many modern businesses attracted to

:19:38. > :19:44.Swindon's location and flexible labour force. There are now growing

:19:44. > :19:49.pains. 1700 new homes have proved here on Swindon's northern edge,

:19:49. > :19:53.not without concerns from those who were there first. They don't build

:19:53. > :20:00.the schools to meet the needs of the houses all the roads or

:20:00. > :20:05.doctors' surgeries, shops, stuffy just mentioned. It is always

:20:05. > :20:09.lagging heart -- far behind. Managing the growth is a challenge.

:20:09. > :20:13.Two county grounds worth of people have been added to the town in 10

:20:13. > :20:19.years. Now Swindon has the second- highest proportion of elderly

:20:19. > :20:23.people in the UK. Although his income as he dashed here in the

:20:23. > :20:28.Forties and Fifties have grown up together.

:20:28. > :20:32.In fact, across the whole south- west the increasing numbers of

:20:33. > :20:36.older people are dramatic. One in five of us are aged 65 plus, the

:20:36. > :20:41.highest proportion in the country and is reckoned to be higher than

:20:41. > :20:46.anywhere in Europe. In Somerset a talk of the huge jump in people

:20:46. > :20:50.over 80 up by a quarter. That means a bigger than ever challenge for

:20:50. > :20:54.our councils to care for the elderly. The problem it has given

:20:54. > :20:59.us, we have been saying for 10 years, is that the south-west

:20:59. > :21:05.region is the oldest in Europe and one of the most underfunded for the

:21:05. > :21:08.older population in England. And just delighted that now it is being

:21:08. > :21:13.recognised as such. I am disappointed that no action has

:21:13. > :21:18.been taken to rectify the problems we will have. Because demand is

:21:18. > :21:23.rising, the many councils have to run crucial services is falling.

:21:23. > :21:27.That is not the only challenge they face. You might remember the scenes

:21:27. > :21:31.a year ago as extra classrooms reporting by crane to cope with the

:21:31. > :21:36.surge in numbers of children entering primary school. There will

:21:36. > :21:41.be even more of that. Across the south-west, the number of under-

:21:41. > :21:45.fives is up sharply and an extra 27,000 youngsters will soon be

:21:45. > :21:50.needing school places. Bentley very much for that.

:21:50. > :21:54.So interesting stuff. As the opening ceremony draws nearer and

:21:54. > :21:59.Olympic hopefuls get ready, the search is already on for the next

:21:59. > :22:02.generation of athletes. Yesterday, some local sports clubs

:22:02. > :22:09.were awarded National Lottery funding to help revamp and build

:22:09. > :22:14.new facilities. Just a bit of a touch of. Over the

:22:14. > :22:18.last 37 years, Dennis Stinchcombe has been an inspiration to hundreds

:22:18. > :22:24.of young people who walked into this gym. I think every young

:22:24. > :22:30.person has a spark. It is down to us to find the spark and notary it.

:22:30. > :22:33.I don't believe, they can have the words background in the world, but
