:00:11. > :00:15.Good evening. Flood water is being pumped off the

:00:15. > :00:18.Somerset levels again after the summer's continuing bad weather.

:00:18. > :00:20.Earlier this year, hundreds of acres of land were left unuseable

:00:20. > :00:25.after water stayed on Curry Moor for over six weeks, causing

:00:25. > :00:29.hardship for farmers. Now, the rest of the Levels is being affected.

:00:29. > :00:36.Here's Alice Bouverie. Pumping floodwater off West Moor on

:00:36. > :00:44.a Bank Holiday in Augustis almost unheard of. One of the worst

:00:44. > :00:48.summers on record is taking a terrible toll on the Levels.

:00:48. > :00:55.A number of farmers have either sold all their stock or reduce

:00:55. > :01:00.their numbers. A number have not made any winter fodder at all. That

:01:00. > :01:06.means, basically, they won't have any cattle. They won't have any

:01:06. > :01:11.income for the next winter. So, yes, it has affected people badly. In my

:01:11. > :01:14.memory, we haven't ever had anything like this before. Curry

:01:14. > :01:17.Moor's been the worst affected. This was the scene back in April.

:01:17. > :01:22.By June, after six weeks under stagnant water, the fields had

:01:22. > :01:29.rotted. Now they look back to normal. But looks can be deceptive.

:01:29. > :01:35.It's not grass you're looking at, it's weeds.

:01:35. > :01:38.It looks green but it is not lovely. It is all weeds. The cows don't eat

:01:38. > :01:42.weeds. In a normal year, these fields

:01:42. > :01:46.should have been cut for hay and had cattle out grazing on them.

:01:46. > :01:49.This year, that's just not happened. This week the Environment Agency's

:01:49. > :01:53.actually given the worst-affected farmers free silage to help them

:01:53. > :01:57.feed their stock, up to 100 bales each.

:01:57. > :02:01.It is fantastic for us, and a surprise because we were just

:02:01. > :02:04.thinking about the contingencies we were having to make. Because of

:02:04. > :02:08.this summer's rain, the whole tapestry of the Levels has been

:02:08. > :02:12.undone. It'll take several years to sew it back together again.

:02:12. > :02:15.A 26-year-old man who was stabbed in Trowbridge has died. Shaun

:02:15. > :02:20.Hulbert was stabbed in the chest in July. He died in hospital on

:02:20. > :02:24.Saturday after being readmitted earlier this month. A man has been

:02:24. > :02:28.charged following the incident. A 20-year-old man is in a critical

:02:28. > :02:30.condition in hospital after a fight in Wiltshire. He was left with what

:02:30. > :02:38.are being described as life- changing injuries after the

:02:38. > :02:42.incident in Salisbury city centre yesterday.

:02:42. > :02:48.The 20-year-old man was found unconscious in the city's market

:02:48. > :02:52.square in the air hours of Sunday. He had been taken to salt the

:02:52. > :02:56.hospital but as his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to

:02:56. > :03:02.a hospital in Hampshire. Police believe the man had been involved

:03:02. > :03:05.in a fight, and a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of

:03:05. > :03:09.grievous bodily harm. Wiltshire police is appealing for witnesses

:03:09. > :03:13.to the incident which has left the 20-year-old with serious head

:03:13. > :03:16.injuries. Health unions have vowed to fight

:03:16. > :03:19.any changes which could result in staff in the West working longer

:03:19. > :03:21.hours for less money. A consortium of 20 hospitals and foundation

:03:21. > :03:24.trusts has published ideas on setting regional pay. It could mean

:03:24. > :03:34.NHS staff here are paid less than their colleagues in other regions.

:03:34. > :03:37.

:03:37. > :03:41.The consortium says the move would protect thousands from redundancy.

:03:41. > :03:45.Nurses, for instance in Taunton or Bristol, could earn significantly

:03:45. > :03:50.less than somebody else in Birmingham or Warwickshire all

:03:50. > :03:53.Worcester, and that is obviously going to affect who works in the

:03:53. > :03:57.south-west and what they earn. Campaigners hoping to stop a

:03:57. > :03:59.planned cull of badgers in the West Country have been told their appeal

:03:59. > :04:01.will be heard next month. The Badger Trust's challenge to a

:04:01. > :04:04.previous court ruling which supported the government's trial

:04:04. > :04:07.culls will be heard at the High Court on September 11th. If

:04:07. > :04:13.rejected, the badger culls in Gloucestershire and Somerset could

:04:13. > :04:16.get under way within a matter of weeks.

:04:16. > :04:19.Back to the wet bank holiday weather, which has taken its toll

:04:19. > :04:22.on the West with business owners and tourist attractions hit yet

:04:22. > :04:25.again. The conditions this summer have seen a number of big events

:04:25. > :04:35.called off, and today the Bath Film Festival decided to cancel

:04:35. > :04:35.

:04:35. > :04:41.screenings because of the rain. At least you can predict the bank

:04:41. > :04:44.holiday traffic. The weather today has been and hit and miss across

:04:44. > :04:46.the west. But it hasn't deterred everyone. In fact, the damage done

:04:46. > :04:52.to the sand sculptures here in Weston-Super-Mare by vandals has

:04:52. > :04:56.encouraged more people through the turnstiles.

:04:56. > :05:00.We have hoped -- notice that a lot of people don't care about the

:05:00. > :05:04.weather. They just want to see the sculptures. We have seen an

:05:04. > :05:08.increase in visitors in the last few days.

:05:08. > :05:10.She's probably the only woman brave enough to wear a bikini, but people

:05:10. > :05:16.have turned up despite the threat of rain.

:05:16. > :05:20.For attractions like Wookey, it's turned out to be an excellent year.

:05:21. > :05:30.We're British, aren't we? We just get on with it. If you want good

:05:31. > :05:32.

:05:32. > :05:39.weather, you have to move to Spain. The weather has affected tourism in

:05:39. > :05:44.Weston-super-Mare. Meanwhile, here the temperature is a bit more

:05:44. > :05:53.reliable. It stayed at around 11 Celsius all year round. They have

:05:53. > :05:58.seen a 6% increase on visitors this year.

:05:58. > :06:03.We have seen the rain a good times. It has rained at breakfast time, so

:06:03. > :06:06.people think, why should we go? And then they come here. But this

:06:06. > :06:11.year's weather has already taken it's toll. Sometimes you just have

:06:11. > :06:14.to grin and bear it. Well, it's been another dull, grey

:06:14. > :06:16.and wet day for many of us today, hasn't it? Will it improve? Let's

:06:16. > :06:21.hasn't it? Will it improve? Let's take a look at the forecast with

:06:21. > :06:24.Jemma Cooper. There were rather grey and damp

:06:24. > :06:30.scenes today, but things will settle down tonight. The rest of

:06:30. > :06:34.the week, though, is a mixed picture. We will have a fair few

:06:34. > :06:39.showers and the breeze is picking up. That will be often quite chilly.

:06:39. > :06:45.For the rest of tonight the rain pushes north east. The things will

:06:45. > :06:50.start to settle down. Cloud begins to break, so tomorrow starts off a

:06:50. > :06:55.lot more promising. Barring the odd bit of a shower, we see breaks and

:06:55. > :07:05.decent spells of brightness. By the afternoon, temperature should be up

:07:05. > :07:08.

:07:08. > :07:12.to the '20s. -- temperatures should be into the twenties. Heavy, sharp

:07:12. > :07:16.showers on Wednesday. Friday looks like the best day of the week so
