:00:59. > :01:04.Good evening. The BBC has discovered a chronic lack of specialist help

:01:04. > :01:05.for alcoholics in Bristol. Following an investigation by Inside Out West,

:01:06. > :01:09.we can reveal that there's only an investigation by Inside Out West,

:01:09. > :01:16.bed in the city which is allocated to patients needing life saving

:01:16. > :01:19.treatment. With a shortage of expert help and money, experts claim most

:01:19. > :01:22.sufferers end up hitting the bottle Matthew Hill reports, there are

:01:22. > :01:34.Andy has only just woken up and Matthew Hill reports, there are

:01:34. > :01:41.is already hitting the bottle. He drinks up to ten litres of cider

:01:41. > :01:47.I need to do something. If I don't get sorted out now I will end up

:01:47. > :01:51.He has been admitted to the only NHS funded hospital in Bristol which has

:01:51. > :01:58.an inpatient facility specifically for our call detox. There is the one

:01:58. > :02:04.bed for patients like Andy, the others are for drug addicts. His

:02:04. > :02:16.psychiatrist says that most patients hospitals where the success rates

:02:16. > :02:25.Most people think, if I detox, and reality is, it is a molehill detox

:02:25. > :02:30.and it is two or three years of climbing up, easy to fall back down.

:02:30. > :02:36.That two and three years requires input and support. In my ward,

:02:36. > :02:45.people get 18 to 20 hours of group work in the fortnight of admission.

:02:45. > :02:48.Andy is one of only 26 alcoholic to get funding for detox a real year.

:02:48. > :02:53.There is only one bed for patients like him, whereas there are five

:02:53. > :03:02.beds for drug addicts. But there are We are going to seven beds within

:03:02. > :03:05.this unit and we will be looking at not designating beds for drug and

:03:05. > :03:10.alcohol, but we're the need actually is. That means that people have

:03:49. > :03:55.And in Somerset, there's just one bed available — and not every week.

:03:55. > :03:58.Because of the shortage, patients from across the West often have
