:00:14. > :00:21.Good evening. People in Somerset have been told to leave the `` to

:00:22. > :00:27.leave their homes today as floodwaters threatened to rise

:00:28. > :00:32.again. Villages were evacuated and travel was disrupted. There are more

:00:33. > :00:38.than 150 properties in the affected areas. In Fordgate and Moorland

:00:39. > :00:43.people were told to get out. Also those in Saltmoor and those in the

:00:44. > :00:49.area in the A361 between East Lyng and Burrowbridge. A centre has been

:00:50. > :00:52.set up in North Everton for those affected. If you're affected by the

:00:53. > :00:55.flooding, but don't know what to do, you should ring the police

:00:56. > :01:04.information number 101. Our reporter Madelyn Ware has been following

:01:05. > :01:10.developments in the story today A last attempt to save what they can

:01:11. > :01:15.before leaving. With the help of neighbours, Sue Crocker is shifting

:01:16. > :01:20.valuables off the floor of her dream retirement home in Fordgate. She

:01:21. > :01:24.also has a smallholding here. Animals have been moved to higher

:01:25. > :01:29.ground. The sheep have gone up to farmer and the dogs are going to go

:01:30. > :01:33.there. We have gun dogs in the kennels, they are going. The cats

:01:34. > :01:40.will come with me because I need to leave. How hard has this been for

:01:41. > :01:46.you? Dreadful, really dreadful. It is like Chinese torture because it

:01:47. > :01:52.gets closer and closer. Sue made the decision to go but at that point,

:01:53. > :01:56.she was one of the few. Most people determined to stay. In nearby

:01:57. > :02:03.Moorland, filling stand`bys `` sandbagged by the dozen. We have

:02:04. > :02:07.been told that we may have to evacuate. The water is not in the

:02:08. > :02:10.house at the moment so we will get some sandbags and batten down the

:02:11. > :02:16.hatches and see how things go. Police had been going door`to`door

:02:17. > :02:28.to advise people to leave. But this afternoon came a more dramatic

:02:29. > :02:33.warning. There will be a high tide after 10pm tonight. That, combined

:02:34. > :02:39.with the high water `` high volume of water coming down the river,

:02:40. > :02:44.there will be overflowing of the river near Burrowbridge. At the

:02:45. > :02:51.afternoon wore on, many residents decided to go. It seems there is no

:02:52. > :02:55.choice any more, we have to go. The flooding is coming over the

:02:56. > :03:01.retaining wall. Once that comes over, there is no way of controlling

:03:02. > :03:06.the flooding and I think it will go through yet quite steeply. But for

:03:07. > :03:10.all those joining the queue to leave the village, there were those

:03:11. > :03:13.determined to stay. Prepare to stay upstairs and sit it out rather than

:03:14. > :03:19.leave their homes to the mercy of the water.

:03:20. > :03:23.We have heard that both the rest centres in Somerset are closed for

:03:24. > :03:33.the night. The Environment Agency is not predicting any further flooding

:03:34. > :03:36.for the next 12 hours. Away from the Levels, the bad weather has also

:03:37. > :03:39.affected other areas. In Taunton, roads and trains were disrupted and

:03:40. > :03:41.emergency services were advising people not to travel unless

:03:42. > :03:45.absolutely necessary. Here's Sally Challoner. Bishop Sutton blocked by

:03:46. > :03:51.very deep water. A call from Stuart...

:03:52. > :03:54.It was chaos on the roads around the county town of Taunton today as

:03:55. > :03:57.fallen trees and flooded roads made every route in tortuous. Many of the

:03:58. > :04:01.communities along those routes, some backing onto the swollen River Tone,

:04:02. > :04:09.were cut off. And working together to help themselves. We do have a

:04:10. > :04:14.Flood committee that are keeping an eye on people and on things. There

:04:15. > :04:19.is only so much we can do that you will see around you there are

:04:20. > :04:28.sandbags available. We supplied bin is full sandbags in various places

:04:29. > :04:32.around the village. To help ourselves. `` we supplied bins

:04:33. > :04:36.containing sandbags. Pumps are battling to get the roads open but

:04:37. > :04:39.this crew had moved 15 tankfuls of water by lunchtime and the level is

:04:40. > :04:42.still rising. Now toilets are blocked by overflowing storm drains

:04:43. > :04:45.` the water has nowhere left to go. Police and Fire are warning people

:04:46. > :04:50.not to travel unless absolutely necessary. But more than a month in,

:04:51. > :04:54.and despite all the warnings, people are still trying to get through

:04:55. > :04:59.these roads. Trains are also disrupted, with buses replacing some

:05:00. > :05:07.services to and from Taunton. The advice is to check before

:05:08. > :05:13.travelling. The line at Castle Cary on the Somerset levels is closed. We

:05:14. > :05:17.can't run services to London that way. The line from Bristol is open

:05:18. > :05:22.at the moment and hopefully it will remain open. But with the weather

:05:23. > :05:25.forecast, we do not know what is around the corner. And with some of

:05:26. > :05:29.the county's roads now passable by just a few, the advice is to stay

:05:30. > :05:32.away. A Bristol policeman appeared in

:05:33. > :05:36.court today accused of taking speeding points on his licence for

:05:37. > :05:41.his girlfriend. PC Alex Owen was sent on a speed awareness course and

:05:42. > :05:44.paid a fine. But an investigation revealed that at the time of the

:05:45. > :05:48.alleged offence he was taking part in an anti`terrorist operation at

:05:49. > :05:52.Trinity Road Station in Bristol Both he and his girlfriend Nina East

:05:53. > :05:58.deny perverting the course of justice.

:05:59. > :06:01.Football now ` despite being a man down, Swindon staged an impressive

:06:02. > :06:05.fight back in the first leg of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy area final.

:06:06. > :06:08.They went two goals behind in the opening 15 minutes but regained

:06:09. > :06:16.their composure to go in level at half time. The final score was `2.

:06:17. > :06:20.If you are affected by the weather and don't know what to do, you can

:06:21. > :06:24.call the police non`emergency number 101. There's more news and

:06:25. > :06:26.information online and on BBC local radio and we'll be back in Breakfast

:06:27. > :06:38.tomorrow morning. Now the weather. OK, tonight and tomorrow morning

:06:39. > :06:44.will bring some much`needed respite in terms of no further rain of any

:06:45. > :06:48.note. But as these Met Office warnings suggest, that will change

:06:49. > :06:53.in the second`half of tomorrow. We see the area covered by amber

:06:54. > :06:56.warnings where we have the greatest potential for further flooding and

:06:57. > :07:03.disruption. That'll continue until Saturday the, that warning. On

:07:04. > :07:11.Saturday there will be strong winds once again. Tonight, temperatures

:07:12. > :07:15.will drop down to about six Celsius. Further rain pushing up in the

:07:16. > :07:21.morning and in the afternoon extending its reach further

:07:22. > :07:24.northwards. Adding to that as we head towards late afternoon and

:07:25. > :07:30.evening, some heavy showers possibly with lightning. I believe you with

:07:31. > :07:43.the Outlook. As you have just heard, the little

:07:44. > :07:47.respite between one storm system and another and it is that cumulative

:07:48. > :07:48.effect which will cause further problems
