:00:11. > :00:15.Good evening. Sunshine in Somerset today did

:00:16. > :00:18.nothing but highlight the sheer scale of the flooding problem on the

:00:19. > :00:22.Levels, with rising waters forcing more people out of their homes.

:00:23. > :00:28.Tonight, rain is falling once again as the emergency response is being

:00:29. > :00:31.pushed to the limit. In a surprise visit to see the crisis for himself,

:00:32. > :00:38.David Cameron insisted the Government is doing everything it

:00:39. > :00:42.can to help those affected. We have put more pumps in, we put

:00:43. > :00:46.the Army and, providing the extra money. We are providing help

:00:47. > :00:51.emergency services and have said to the local council, if you need to

:00:52. > :00:55.spend money, spend it and we will reimburse you from central

:00:56. > :00:58.Government. All the things we can do, we will do.

:00:59. > :01:01.We'll be live on the Levels in a moment to get the latest pictures,

:01:02. > :01:04.but first, Royal Marines helped evacuate another 80 homes in

:01:05. > :01:07.Moorland early this morning after the floodwaters rose by more than a

:01:08. > :01:12.metre. Our reporter Clinton Rogers was with them.

:01:13. > :01:17.As morning broke, the scale of what has happened here is all too

:01:18. > :01:22.evident. So many homes are now under water. Homes that have not

:01:23. > :01:28.previously flooded. This has been a good close`knit community and it is

:01:29. > :01:31.just ripped apart. I just hope that when everything has subsided and the

:01:32. > :01:37.water has calmed down, the powers that be sent people here to help

:01:38. > :01:42.residents clear out their homes Each church nearby Bridgwater became

:01:43. > :01:52.an emergency evacuation centre. At least it's warm and dry. We were

:01:53. > :01:56.told to get out. We got out. It was coming up so fast. As we were

:01:57. > :02:02.talking, you could see it. We resisted so far so we decided, yes,

:02:03. > :02:06.it must be serious. We travelled by tractor to a house in Moorland that

:02:07. > :02:14.has literally become an island. Last night, the owner built a dam around

:02:15. > :02:17.the whole property. Today, stage two of the rescue plan. This really is a

:02:18. > :02:24.quite extraordinary attempt to keep the water at bay. The whole property

:02:25. > :02:27.is surrounded by a dam. By the time they have finished, the whole house

:02:28. > :02:31.will be wrapped in polythene. Why don't you leave? You're determined

:02:32. > :02:37.to stay, are you? Determined to stay. The house is what a few

:02:38. > :02:42.pennies and it will devalue that flood so we're trying to beat it.

:02:43. > :02:53.With floodwater still rising, efforts are continuing to protect

:02:54. > :02:56.those properties yet to be affected. But for many, returning home could

:02:57. > :02:59.be a long time away. Well, let's cross to our reporter

:03:00. > :03:05.Scott Ellis who's on the Somerset Levels tonight. What's the latest?

:03:06. > :03:08.You can certainly feel that storm coming in. I am on one of many

:03:09. > :03:14.flooded out of the woods on the Levels. Down to the left, Moorland.

:03:15. > :03:22.The road is impassable. The people have decided to state essentially

:03:23. > :03:25.trapped. To the right, that would get you to the pub. We have seen

:03:26. > :03:30.locals going there this evening with family. The factor for the landlord

:03:31. > :03:34.to ask them to come and get them in his 4x4. The water they are driving

:03:35. > :03:40.through, though what I am standing in, is still rising at the rate of

:03:41. > :03:43.one centimetre every hour. No wonder the Prime Minister described what he

:03:44. > :03:48.saw as he arrived in the West Country by helicopter as a biblical

:03:49. > :03:53.scene. He said the scale of the Fondas amends. They are pumping out

:03:54. > :04:01.now at the rate of water every single hour and a bringing in bigger

:04:02. > :04:06.pumps. But the weather is worsening and it could lead to more flooding

:04:07. > :04:09.and also on the River Severn in Gloucestershire in a couple of days.

:04:10. > :04:13.Elsewhere tonight, a temporary flood wall in a Wiltshire town has leaked.

:04:14. > :04:15.Special fencing and pumps were put in yesterday on Silver Street in

:04:16. > :04:22.Bradford`on`Avon to protect homes and businesses from the high tide on

:04:23. > :04:25.the River Avon. The council is reinforcing the barrier and says

:04:26. > :04:28.it'll stay there this weekend as more heavy rain is on the way.

:04:29. > :04:32.Throughout this crisis, we've heard so many stories of people in

:04:33. > :04:34.Somerset and beyond offering to help those affected. From neighbours

:04:35. > :04:37.helping farmers, rescue animals and crops, to offers of food for people

:04:38. > :04:42.in rescue centres. Sally Challoner has been to meet just a few of the

:04:43. > :04:46.people trying to bring comfort to those in crisis.

:04:47. > :04:49.This is community spirit in action. People have come from towns and

:04:50. > :05:00.villages all around to fill bags with several tonnes of sand donated

:05:01. > :05:04.by a local builder. There was 2 ponies are needed rescuing. I said

:05:05. > :05:09.to coordinate people, came here they had just finished sandbanks,

:05:10. > :05:14.went then and 15 crazy Dartmoor ponies that we had to get onto

:05:15. > :05:18.lorries. Some are never been handled. My sons while they are and

:05:19. > :05:27.other ladies in the village came out. It clocked by state, we got the

:05:28. > :05:30.final one away. From cakes to the basic essentials, this campsite is

:05:31. > :05:36.offering people a lifeline ` hot showers and access to toilets. We

:05:37. > :05:39.have had one lady comment to her washing in the laundry but, you

:05:40. > :05:45.know, the facilities are here if they want. You're welcome. More than

:05:46. > :05:48.welcome. And it's not just here ` farmers in Gloucestershire have

:05:49. > :05:55.donated animal feed. They now need help getting it down here. We are

:05:56. > :05:58.trying to get local farmers from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and

:05:59. > :06:02.Worcestershire if it is possible to donate a couple of bills of the

:06:03. > :06:06.silage, strong, whatever they can give us. Food, too, for local people

:06:07. > :06:12.who have had to abandon their homes and are now living in limbo. It is

:06:13. > :06:16.all local people through the Facebook page. They have donated

:06:17. > :06:23.food and in rallying around and helping. It is amazing. If there is

:06:24. > :06:28.a silver lining at all, it's this ` people pulling together to keep the

:06:29. > :06:31.community afloat. For the very latest on the flooding,

:06:32. > :06:35.tune in to your BBC local radio station and of course our weekend

:06:36. > :06:36.team will have full coverage. Now, with that all important weather

:06:37. > :06:38.forecast, here's Ian. station and of course our weekend

:06:39. > :06:42.team will have full The heaviest of the night's rain is crossing

:06:43. > :06:46.eastwards, including over the Levels. Our attention is focused on

:06:47. > :06:50.the strength of the wind tomorrow. It is already windy across southern

:06:51. > :06:55.areas at the moment. Tomorrow, amber warnings around the coast and indeed

:06:56. > :07:03.the coasts of Dorset. Yellow warning elsewhere. We could see 60`70 mph on

:07:04. > :07:08.Saturday. That will continue into Sunday. It could be very disruptive

:07:09. > :07:13.and damaging. Temperatures tonight for what it is worth, 4`5 Celsius.

:07:14. > :07:19.Tomorrow, dry weather about but winds will pick up. There will be

:07:20. > :07:29.shown later on which will match in. Dash`mac margin. Temperatures

:07:30. > :07:36.tomorrow, seven ` eight Celsius Peter Gibbs is now going

:07:37. > :07:44.Hello again. Nelson's flag ship HMS victory, was launched in 1765 and

:07:45. > :07:47.you can still see it today in Portsmouth Harbour. But through the

:07:48. > :07:51.whole of that history, you will struggle to find a wetter winter

:07:52. > :07:56.than this one across southern England. Scotland has already been

:07:57. > :08:00.in the record books. Their December was the wettest since standardised

:08:01. > :08:01.records began
