:00:00. > :00:12.Much more throughout the evening on the BBC News channel. We

:00:13. > :00:16.Good evening from Points West. Desperate attempts are underway on

:00:17. > :00:21.the Somerset Levels to prevent more homes from flooding. While a small

:00:22. > :00:24.number of people in the villages of Moorland and Fordgate refuse to

:00:25. > :00:27.leave their homes, many others are feeling the strain after having left

:00:28. > :00:31.their property behind. We have two reports for you, our first from

:00:32. > :00:33.Fiona Lamdin with families in East Lyng.

:00:34. > :00:47.An army of friends, here since first light, building a sandbag

:00:48. > :00:53.stronghold. We are going to be up all night. This amount of water

:00:54. > :00:58.about, you don't go to bed. So far the farm has kept the water. They

:00:59. > :01:01.have over 1000 sandbags. If you look across the lane, to the neighbours,

:01:02. > :01:07.you see the water has just come through the letterbox. And this is

:01:08. > :01:13.the family who live here. Protractor is now the only way in. The

:01:14. > :01:18.downstairs is completely wrecked. Nobody, but nobody, has been out to

:01:19. > :01:23.us. I rang the police and told them they were evacuating and they said,

:01:24. > :01:29.why are you telling us? We're not interested, we can't do anything for

:01:30. > :01:33.you. Now homeless, living in a hotel, they are left with nothing.

:01:34. > :01:36.And just a few miles across the levels in Saltmore, hours of wading

:01:37. > :01:39.through water to rescue their horses. Back in East Lyng, the

:01:40. > :01:47.water's rising but the pumps keep breaking. What is it like at night?

:01:48. > :01:53.Scary, really scary. All your friends go home, and you're just

:01:54. > :01:55.left here on your own. Tonight, survival is down to this sand and

:01:56. > :02:03.sacking. These Dartmoor ponies were rescued

:02:04. > :02:10.just days ago from their home near Burrowbridge. Next to the stable

:02:11. > :02:18.their owner Mary is also facing life in temporary accommodation. With the

:02:19. > :02:21.rest of her animals scattered all over the county, she's finding it

:02:22. > :02:25.hard to cope. It's been an absolute nightmare. We are totally

:02:26. > :02:30.devastated. Panic stations setting. We've never dealt with anything like

:02:31. > :02:38.this, we've only been here 18 months, and twice we have dealt with

:02:39. > :02:41.flooding, but this is so severe Pro`white `` It's centres like this

:02:42. > :02:44.that are providing life lines for people like Mary, donated goods

:02:45. > :02:50.taken to those most in need. We have been asked to things like towels,

:02:51. > :02:53.socks, high`energy food, drinks blanket, basically anything people

:02:54. > :03:00.can spare to health. `` asking for things. We are putting in portaloos

:03:01. > :03:05.at one end of the scale, and then were evacuating snakes and animals

:03:06. > :03:09.at the other end. The agency are really doing a wide and varied role

:03:10. > :03:13.and trying to help these communities who are really feeling the pressure.

:03:14. > :03:17.With the waters still rising, those who have been forced to leave may

:03:18. > :03:18.have to face life in makeshift accommodation for many weeks to

:03:19. > :03:27.come. Conservatives in the Forest of Dean

:03:28. > :03:30.say they are saddened that their local MP Mark Harper has resigned as

:03:31. > :03:33.immigration minister. It came after it emerged he'd employed a cleaner

:03:34. > :03:36.who didn't have permission to stay in the UK. The Chairman of the

:03:37. > :03:39.Forest of Dean Conservative Association said Mr Harper was an

:03:40. > :03:43.honest and straightforward MP. Football, and it ended in a 2`1

:03:44. > :03:46.defeat for Yeovil as they took on Leeds in the Championship. Ishmael

:03:47. > :03:47.Miller headed Yeovil in front, but failed to extend his side's

:03:48. > :03:54.advantage when he missed a penalty. In League One, Swindon fought back

:03:55. > :04:01.from two goals down at half`time to record an excellent victory at Port

:04:02. > :04:04.Vale. It ended 1`1 for Bristol City as they met Oldham. Aden Flint

:04:05. > :04:08.scoring the equaliser. In League Two, Bristol Rovers also drew 1`1 at

:04:09. > :04:11.home to Oxford. While it ended goalless between Cheltenham and

:04:12. > :04:14.York. Rugby, and Bath beat Newcastle 24`6. Houston and Low scored the

:04:15. > :04:17.tries. Bristol won 32`19 at Bedford. Bristol secured a bonus point as

:04:18. > :04:24.they scored six tries. Let's move onto the weather prospects now.

:04:25. > :04:29.We do still have some strong winds to come through the night, some

:04:30. > :04:33.weather warnings in force, particularly along parts of the

:04:34. > :04:37.coast, with strong and gusty winds to come. We still have heavy showers

:04:38. > :04:41.around, and it looks like they could merge into longer spells of rain per

:04:42. > :04:45.time with the risk of hail mixed in. These are the average wind

:04:46. > :04:48.speeds although the gusts will be stronger, particularly as the winds

:04:49. > :04:51.are more westerly through the night along the coast and through the

:04:52. > :04:55.Bristol Channel. Temperatures down to three or four degrees. Wet

:04:56. > :04:58.weather to start tomorrow. Still strong and gusty winds through the

:04:59. > :05:02.morning. The winds slowly easing through the day and a bit of

:05:03. > :05:04.sunshine mixed in as well, but on Monday we seek lighter winds and

:05:05. > :05:18.fewer showers, but early Good evening. Unfortunately I don't

:05:19. > :05:21.have much good news in this forecast. There may be a brief

:05:22. > :05:25.respite later tomorrow with the wind and the rain but it will not be long

:05:26. > :05:29.enough and we have today's storm withers, pounding many coastlines in

:05:30. > :05:34.the south and west, hence the Amber wind warning from the Met Office. It

:05:35. > :05:38.is a windy day across the board and it is not just the wind that is a

:05:39. > :05:41.concern. It is causing high waves, damaging winds, but there is more

:05:42. > :05:46.shower activity, hail, thunder and snow in the north and the potential

:05:47. > :05:49.for another 10-20 millimetres of rain in parts of Wales, the

:05:50. > :05:54.south-west, perhaps some persistent showers in the south-east, coupled

:05:55. > :05:58.with those rather lively wins. They hold the temp Richard tonight but

:05:59. > :06:03.there could be ice in Scotland, given that we have wintry showers

:06:04. > :06:08.Wash they hold the temperatures up to. Here is the respite. The shower

:06:09. > :06:09.frequency edges down in the afternoon and the
