:00:00. > :00:10.heavy rain is causing more misery as flood waters are on the rise.

:00:11. > :00:17.Good evening. Torrential rain and 70mph winds deepened the flooding

:00:18. > :00:20.crisis across the West today. After seven weeks of bad weather, it

:00:21. > :00:25.became apparent the emergency is far from over. The first public meeting

:00:26. > :00:28.to discuss the crisis was held in Somerset tonight and special Dutch

:00:29. > :00:32.pumps could begin the task of removing the water from tomorrow.

:00:33. > :00:41.Our reporter Scott Ellis is alongside the King Sedgemoor Drain

:00:42. > :00:48.for us now. Scott. The Dutch pumps will pump the water

:00:49. > :00:54.of the Moors over the wall at the back out to sea. But installation

:00:55. > :00:59.delayed by the bad weather. We have been to a public meeting in

:01:00. > :01:01.Bridgwater. 300 people there including many flood victims from

:01:02. > :01:03.Orlando in Bridgwater. 300 people there including many flood victims

:01:04. > :01:08.from Moorland and four`day `` four date. They want to know how long it

:01:09. > :01:14.has `` Wyatt has taken so long to get the Dutch pumps here. There was

:01:15. > :01:22.an audible gar the room when one flood victim said that she had run

:01:23. > :01:28.up to find out why the pumps were not there and was told that they

:01:29. > :01:35.were ?30,000 and they were not going to spend that much money on one

:01:36. > :01:41.place. To be told by some faceless idiot in Exeter, we are not going to

:01:42. > :01:46.save your home... What you say? IU reassured by anything you have heard

:01:47. > :01:52.tonight? No, they do not have the answers. The Environment Agency and

:01:53. > :01:57.apologise for that remark and for the delay in bringing the pumps

:01:58. > :02:04.They said that the dredging at the confluence of the River Parratt and

:02:05. > :02:10.the River Tone would proceed. It is not just Somerset that is getting a

:02:11. > :02:14.hammering. The whole of the West Country is getting a hammering.

:02:15. > :02:19.A car long since claimed by the water. This morning in the village

:02:20. > :02:26.of Long Load, the wind whipped these floods into waves. Looking out to

:02:27. > :02:30.sea, oh, dear me. For locals like Ken, the daily ride has been cut

:02:31. > :02:39.short. This pause in normal life is now part of the routine. What is

:02:40. > :02:42.your normal route. I normally go down and turn over the bridge over

:02:43. > :02:46.the River Parratt. But this is as far as I'm going. As winds hit more

:02:47. > :02:50.than 60mph in the West, the trees began to fall. The driver of this

:02:51. > :02:55.lorry on the A39 somehow escaping without being seriously hurt. Filmed

:02:56. > :03:00.on a phone, in Bristol, the suspension bridge quivered. The

:03:01. > :03:03.engineering creaked. In Somerset, the sandbagging, the shoring up of

:03:04. > :03:16.these swollen rivers continued as those living with this water looked

:03:17. > :03:19.uneasily on. This driving wind and rain that has been thundering down

:03:20. > :03:27.on the level this morning is bad news. A couple of miles straight

:03:28. > :03:32.across the water they tell me that about 12 hours after the rains have

:03:33. > :03:36.fallen, the property there begin to flood. Rescue teams aware that more

:03:37. > :03:45.rain here means more flooding from water with nowhere to go. Normally,

:03:46. > :03:52.the emergency phase, which is what the Fire rescue service is about, is

:03:53. > :04:03.over in a few days. We number of weeks. It is still raining. . In

:04:04. > :04:07.some places, it has begun to sink back. But no sense yet in addressing

:04:08. > :04:15.the damage because no`one can say it won't soon come back.

:04:16. > :04:18.Points West has been braving the weather, bringing the entire

:04:19. > :04:26.programme from the Somerset levels. We spoke to the Somerset and Frome

:04:27. > :04:30.MP David Heath. He promised to keep some as's problem is high on the

:04:31. > :04:33.news agenda. They must not be forgotten. I have

:04:34. > :04:38.the commitment from the Prime Minister today he is personally very

:04:39. > :04:43.engaged with us. That is good news. It is what we have been arguing

:04:44. > :04:46.for. Not just for the last couple of weeks, to make sure that the whole

:04:47. > :04:52.of government is committed to doing what is needed on Somerset levels

:04:53. > :04:59.because they are a unique, man`made environment.

:05:00. > :05:03.Here, the workers return at seven in the morning and we can only hope

:05:04. > :05:11.that they get the Dutch pump working this morning. A loss of people at

:05:12. > :05:15.the meeting happy for the government to buy their homes from them at the

:05:16. > :05:19.market rate. After years of flooding, they want to leave their

:05:20. > :05:23.homes altogether and turn their backs on the Somerset levels.

:05:24. > :05:26.A Wiltshire man has died of suspected electrocution after

:05:27. > :05:29.attempting to move a tree which had brought down power lines. Police

:05:30. > :05:33.were called to reports of the fallen tree at Bremhill near Calne this

:05:34. > :05:37.afternoon. A man in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene.

:05:38. > :05:40.The former Bristol MP Tony Benn is seriously ill in hospital. The

:05:41. > :05:45.88`year`old was admitted at the weekend. Tony Benn retired from

:05:46. > :05:47.Parliament 13 years ago. Last October he gave television

:05:48. > :05:51.interviews as the final instalment of his diaries was published. He

:05:52. > :05:58.represented Bristol for 30 years, serving in two Labour governments.

:05:59. > :06:02.Two of Britain's best medal hopes at the Winter Olympics will be

:06:03. > :06:06.competing tomorrow. Skeleton athletes Lizzy Yarnold from Bath and

:06:07. > :06:10.Pewsey's Shelley Rudman. It's Shelley's third Olympics, and one of

:06:11. > :06:14.her biggest cheerleaders will be her daughter Ella. Alistair Durden

:06:15. > :06:17.reports. It's a challenge for Shelley Rudman

:06:18. > :06:21.combining being a world class athlete and a mum. Six`year`old Ella

:06:22. > :06:26.travels around the world with her and her fiance Kristan Bromley.

:06:27. > :06:29.Shelley does her schooling when they're away, but Ella is already

:06:30. > :06:42.showing signs of following in her parent's footsteps. She is like this

:06:43. > :06:48.on the start line. The first time it happened, we were like, old, she has

:06:49. > :06:56.really watched us! She knows all of the terminology and all of the

:06:57. > :07:01.athletes. She absorbs it. She loves it. It has been great by the school,

:07:02. > :07:05.they give me a lesson plan, and I follow that. It's eight years since

:07:06. > :07:12.Shelley won her Olympic silver medal. She's more relaxed about her

:07:13. > :07:16.chances this time. How cool would it be for Ella to say that she has been

:07:17. > :07:20.to an Olympics to watch her mum complete? That is the biggest

:07:21. > :07:24.motivation. For my family as well, to make them proud. This season has

:07:25. > :07:29.been win after win after win for Lizzy Yarnold. She's the World Cup

:07:30. > :07:35.champion, and has been quickest in practice this week. Everyone thinks

:07:36. > :07:40.about the Olympics being such a magical event. Anything can happen

:07:41. > :07:43.on the day, in skeleton especially. I am where I planned I would be at

:07:44. > :07:48.this moment. Lizzy's the gold medal favourite but Shelley has the

:07:49. > :07:54.experience, and her own fan club. More news and information on your

:07:55. > :07:57.BBC local radio Stations and online. We're back in Breakfast tomorrow

:07:58. > :08:05.from 6am. Now get the latest weather.

:08:06. > :08:13.Good evening. We have had a notably windy affair across the West

:08:14. > :08:28.Country. Das touching 70 mph in some places. `` dusts touching 70 miles

:08:29. > :08:33.per hour gusts of wind. Snow accumulating over higher ground east

:08:34. > :08:40.of Bristol. Temperatures will be chilly tonight. Tomorrow a blustery

:08:41. > :08:48.start with wintry showers around. There will be bright spells as well.

:08:49. > :08:52.The wind will become slightly less. Further showers continuing through

:08:53. > :09:00.the course of the day. It will feel cold tomorrow. This is the outlook.

:09:01. > :09:09.Further warnings out for Friday Yet more heavy on the way.

:09:10. > :09:16.Good evening. What an incredible day of weather it has been. We saw gusts

:09:17. > :09:20.of wind up to 108 mph in the West of Wales. The wind is easing down a

:09:21. > :09:23.notch or two but we still have a high-level amber warning from the

:09:24. > :09:28.Met Office for the strength of the wind over the next few hours over

:09:29. > :09:32.quite a large swathe of the UK. Northern Ireland, northern England

:09:33. > :09:36.and down across Wales, there is still potential for damaging and

:09:37. > :09:39.disruptive gusts of wind. This huge curl of cloud is bringing wet and

:09:40. > :09:44.windy weather across much of the West of Europe. It curls back across

:09:45. > :09:47.the north of the UK and that's the centre of the area of low pressure

:09:48. > :09:51.with the strongest winds just to the south of that. Let's focus on the

:09:52. > :09:55.winds over the next few hours. The ease down by a notch or two but

:09:56. > :10:03.still blustery conditions over most of Wales. High seas around the coast

:10:04. > :10:08.and gusting up to 70 mph. Easily around the 80 mph mark across much

:10:09. > :10:13.of northern England. Across the Pennines this evening and overnight,

:10:14. > :10:16.travelling will be treacherous. Wind and rain at lower levels will

:10:17. > :10:22.produce a lot of spray. You don t have to go to high up the Pennines

:10:23. > :10:26.to see that turned to snow. One way or another, further disruption to

:10:27. > :10:29.travel is more than likely. BBC local radio will keep you up-to date

:10:30. > :10:35.on where you are and where you are trying to get to. The centre of the

:10:36. > :10:38.low system moves northwards. Pretty heavy snow developing across the

:10:39. > :10:42.hills of Scotland with several centimetres by dawn. A bit of snow

:10:43. > :10:47.for Northern Ireland and wintry showers drifting across the southern

:10:48. > :10:49.counties. A risk of ice with most races are seeing the temperatures a

:10:50. > :10:54.degree or so either side of freezing. A cold, windy start

:10:55. > :11:00.Thursday but I think it be a better day. No persistent rain to be seen.

:11:01. > :11:04.There should be some spells of sunshine for many of us, as well.

:11:05. > :11:08.Does it last until the end of the week? I'm afraid not. It goes

:11:09. > :11:13.downhill on Friday. This low pressure will head our way. Lots of

:11:14. > :11:20.isobars on the chart later in the day. Gusts of 60, 70 or 80 mph, with

:11:21. > :11:22.rain spreading northwards. Significant snow for parts of

:11:23. > :11:26.Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. Windy into the start of

:11:27. > :11:31.the weekend. Saturday has outbreaks of rain. On Sunday, something of a

:11:32. > :11:32.respite. The winds will ease down and it should
