:00:00. > :00:10.6pm. Stay with us on BBC One. It's time for

:00:11. > :00:15.Good afternoon. Hundreds of people across the west are without power

:00:16. > :00:20.this lunchtime, after high winds bought down cables last night. Fire

:00:21. > :00:22.and rescue services have been out clearing roads of fallen trees but

:00:23. > :00:26.thankfully, the flood defences held in an area of Gloucester which is

:00:27. > :00:35.still the subject of a severe flood warning. Sally Challoner has the

:00:36. > :00:38.latest. This is as far as we have been

:00:39. > :00:41.advised to go. The tree that has come down is just up there but a

:00:42. > :00:46.power line is still connected and live. The poll on the tree are not

:00:47. > :00:50.quite down so it is making for a very dangerous situation. This is

:00:51. > :00:54.one of the main routes through Gloucestershire but it is certainly

:00:55. > :00:56.not the only tree that is down. Police and highways engineers have

:00:57. > :01:00.been out all night making roads and power lines safe. Of course, it does

:01:01. > :01:05.mean that a lot of people are without power, still. At the last

:01:06. > :01:09.count, it was about 5000 people in the south`west. On a brighter note,

:01:10. > :01:12.the River Severn didn't burst its banks so a lot of people fearing the

:01:13. > :01:15.worst seem to have escape but for now at least.

:01:16. > :01:18.Turning to Somerset now and the Environment Agency says it's

:01:19. > :01:21.installing the final two Dutch Pumps at Dunball this weekend. Once

:01:22. > :01:25.they've been running for two days, other pumps at Beerwall can also be

:01:26. > :01:29.turned on. No more families are reported to have left their homes

:01:30. > :01:32.overnight on the levels or moors. Somerset Community Foundation's

:01:33. > :01:39.flood Relief Fund has now received around ?330,000 in donations.

:01:40. > :01:42.The BBC travel website has a comprehensive list of ongoing road

:01:43. > :01:47.closures right across the west and your BBC local radio station will

:01:48. > :01:51.keep you up to date as well. National Grid are asking for

:01:52. > :01:55.comments on updated plans for a new line of electricity pylons through

:01:56. > :02:00.Somerset. They'd take power from the new Hinkley C station to Avonmouth.

:02:01. > :02:03.Some groups objected to the size of the pylons. National Grid is now

:02:04. > :02:08.proposing to use smaller ones close to the village of Mark. Protestors

:02:09. > :02:11.say they want the power lines put underground.

:02:12. > :02:14.Building work has started on a new training college at Lyneham in

:02:15. > :02:19.Wiltshire. The former military air base closed in December 2012. It

:02:20. > :02:22.will now be turned into a training centre for maintaining machinery and

:02:23. > :02:32.military equipment. It's due for completion by the end of next year.

:02:33. > :02:36.Nearly 24 hours after winning skeleton gold in Sochi, the Olympic

:02:37. > :02:41.medals will be given out this afternoon. Congratulations have been

:02:42. > :02:45.pouring in for the 25`year`old winner including Tweets from the

:02:46. > :02:48.Prime Minister. You can watch the ceremony on the BBC at 4:30pm.

:02:49. > :02:50.The weather has already put paid to a couple of the football matches

:02:51. > 9:55:54involving our local
