:00:13. > :00:17.Good evening from Points West. The Environment Agency says it's latest

:00:18. > :00:22.strategy to clear floodwater from the Somerset Levels is well

:00:23. > :00:25.underway. A sluice gate to divert water out of the River Parrett's

:00:26. > :00:30.been opened further, allowing pumps to start work clearing water off

:00:31. > :00:34.Currymoor. But some areas may have to wait longer for the water to go.

:00:35. > :00:38.Scott Ellis has been to Muchelney which has been cut off now for 0

:00:39. > :00:42.days. No way through, except for the

:00:43. > :00:46.highest of vehicles. Muchelney's been an island for the last 50 days,

:00:47. > :00:59.the visting vicar reliant on a firefighters' boat to get him to the

:01:00. > :01:04.church on time. Horrified to see it as it is! Beyond description.

:01:05. > :01:10.Amazing, the resilience of the people here. Anita Vaughan`Johnson's

:01:11. > :01:15.one of those resilient islanders. Like most, her home's close to the

:01:16. > :01:25.floodwater but it is dry. It's just that flooded roads make her feel

:01:26. > :01:30.trapped. It's very trying because we can't do anything other than exist.

:01:31. > :01:33.We occasionally see the odd friend who is brave enough to come and take

:01:34. > :01:36.a salad. Five miles downriver from Muchelney, the work to clear

:01:37. > :01:39.floodwater is progressing. A sluice gate opened yesterday has been

:01:40. > :01:44.raised to a metre, diverting water out of the Parrett and reducing

:01:45. > :01:49.levels on it and the river Tone That's meant the Currymoor pumping

:01:50. > :01:57.station's restarted. Good news for residents in flooded areas such as

:01:58. > :02:01.East Lyng, Moorland and Fordgate. When it comes to pumping the water

:02:02. > :02:07.of the moors and levels, the priority is to remove the lift ``

:02:08. > :02:13.the risk to lives, then properties and deal with the flooded roads

:02:14. > :02:17.Much of the problem is these flooded access roads, so it's clear life

:02:18. > :02:20.would get back to normal hip are many more weeks yet. Water levels

:02:21. > :02:24.are dropping at Muchelney and villagers hope a short temporary

:02:25. > :02:28.bridge can be set up on this road, allowing them to drive in and out in

:02:29. > :02:31.their cars once again. It was so close, but Trowbridge

:02:32. > :02:36.bobsleigh driver John Jackson has missed out on a medal at the Winter

:02:37. > :02:39.Olympics by just over a tenth of a second. John's partner, Paula

:02:40. > :02:42.Walker, was in the crowd to cheer him on, while his sponsors were

:02:43. > :02:48.watching closely back here in the West.

:02:49. > :02:51.Steve Cook's family butchers in Devizes has been sponsoring John

:02:52. > :02:55.Jackson and his partner Paula Walker for the last six months, but today,

:02:56. > :03:07.the shop was shut as they were at home, gathered around the TV to see

:03:08. > :03:11.if John could win a medal. Going into their final run, they were

:03:12. > :03:14.sixth but just two tenths of a second off a bronze medal. They

:03:15. > :03:22.produced their fastest run yet, putting them in first, but there

:03:23. > :03:31.were six more crews go. And agonisingly, they finished just

:03:32. > :03:38.outside the top three. It's been a great race. But sometimes, just

:03:39. > :03:44.being involved in such a great race like this makes it worthwhile.

:03:45. > :03:47.Fantastic. You see the countries they beat and they have done on a

:03:48. > :03:50.shoestring budget. At 36, John says this is likely to be his last

:03:51. > :03:54.Olympics. Both he and Paula, who competed in the two`man event, may

:03:55. > :04:01.have to return to their careers in the Armed Forces.

:04:02. > :04:05.And Bath's Lizzy Yarnold has been the flag bearer for Team GB at the

:04:06. > :04:08.closing ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics. Lizzy won gold in the

:04:09. > :04:11.women's skeleton. The closing ceremony, which is still going on

:04:12. > :04:16.now, marks the end of a Games in which two of Britain's four medals

:04:17. > :04:19.were won by West Country athletes. Football, and Yeovil gave their

:04:20. > :04:22.Championship survival hopes a big boost defeating one of their big

:04:23. > :04:28.rivals, but they're still bottom of the table with a third of the season

:04:29. > :04:31.still to go. Time is running out for Yeovil, but

:04:32. > :04:36.this crucial win over Doncaster will give them hope. James Hayter scored

:04:37. > :04:41.the only goal from the penalty spot at Huish Park, leaving the Glovers

:04:42. > :04:45.just three points from safety. But not such good news for our teams in

:04:46. > :04:49.League One, who were both beaten. Swindon Town lost 2`0 at Leyton

:04:50. > :04:54.Orient and Bristol City are back in the relegation zone after losing 3`0

:04:55. > :04:59.at Sheffield United. Cheltenham picked up their first win 2014.

:05:00. > :05:03.Ashley Vincent scored his first goal since returning to the club as they

:05:04. > :05:07.beat Newport. In rugby, Bristol beat Plymouth

:05:08. > :05:11.43`12 at the Memorial Stadium this afternoon. The hosts scored seven

:05:12. > :05:24.tries, which moves them to the top of the Championship.

:05:25. > :05:31.It will remain rather breezy through this evening and much of the night.

:05:32. > :05:35.It is set to be dry tonight with clear skies but with the wind is

:05:36. > :05:39.continuing, they will keep things marked and frost free with

:05:40. > :05:45.temperatures no lower than seven or eight degrees. First thing tomorrow,

:05:46. > :05:51.dry to start with. A patchy band of rain making its way across the

:05:52. > :05:56.region. Another mile day with highs of 11 degrees. Overnight, further

:05:57. > :06:06.rain clearing into showers, though still unsettled.

:06:07. > :06:11.Hello. Still no sign of the weather really settling down next week.

:06:12. > :06:15.There should be an improvement for most of us tomorrow. It will not be

:06:16. > :06:19.as windy as it has been today, and the band of rain will slowly peter

:06:20. > :06:23.out. We still have some rain to come through the night. This band of rain

:06:24. > :06:26.is quite slow moving, it will wander northwards into Dumfries and

:06:27. > :06:30.Galloway. Close to Northern Ireland, heavy rain in Cumbria and later in

:06:31. > :06:33.the night it will turn whether in Wales and the south-west. Southerly

:06:34. > :06:36.wind, quite strong at the moment, that will ease as the night goes on

:06:37. > :06:40.but it should be pretty mild, six or seven degrees, typically. Tomorrow,

:06:41. > :06:42.we start with heavy rain, especially
