:00:15. > :00:17.Good evening. A teacher frol a school in West Somerset has been

:00:18. > :00:20.suspended after claims tape was stuck over pupils' mouths bdcause

:00:21. > :00:24.they were too noisy. The chhldren, all aged between 10 and 11, go to

:00:25. > :00:28.Danesfield Church of England School. The head has apologised and says a

:00:29. > :00:34.full investigation is under way Our Somerset correspondent Clinton

:00:35. > :00:38.Rogers reports. Unusual uses of sticky tape wasn't

:00:39. > :00:42.meant to be on the curricultm at this school in rural West Somerset.

:00:43. > :00:47.Was everything all right today at school? For the pupils it w`s a

:00:48. > :00:50.painful lesson. We were talk ago pit and she got sellotape out and asked

:00:51. > :00:55.us to line up and started sticking us to line up and started sticking

:00:56. > :01:03.tape over our mouths. All of you? Yes. Did it hurt? Yes. Some people

:01:04. > :01:07.got bad rashes and this girl had her lips bleeding. Parents say they are

:01:08. > :01:12.disgusted with what happened here yesterday. If we as parents did that

:01:13. > :01:15.at home we would have all m`nner of people on our backs and aftdr us and

:01:16. > :01:20.why should it be any differdnt for a school? Absolutely terrible.

:01:21. > :01:24.Upsetting to be honest. What do you think should happen to the teacher?

:01:25. > :01:29.I think she should be not allowed to work with children again. After

:01:30. > :01:34.hearing the story from his child, one parent actually went to the

:01:35. > :01:36.police but he was told this wasn't a criminal matter, it was somdthing

:01:37. > :01:40.for the school and the parents to sort out. I can assure you that we

:01:41. > :01:43.take what has happened to bd entirely wrong. It should h`ve not

:01:44. > :01:47.happened. The school has tonight issued a letter to parents

:01:48. > :01:52.describing this as an unaccdptable incident. We take all alleg`tions

:01:53. > :01:58.very, very seriously. The wdll`being of our children is vital to us. An

:01:59. > :02:02.incident happened yesterday, following that incident a tdacher

:02:03. > :02:07.has been suspended while a full and thorough investigation takes place.

:02:08. > :02:16.The school has just become `n academy. This wasn't the mark it was

:02:17. > :02:21.hoping to make in its first week. A Yeovil man has been sentenced to a

:02:22. > :02:23.minimum of 18 years in prison after being found guilty of murder.

:02:24. > :02:27.Gobinath Vellasamy, who's 36, stabbed a woman to death in August

:02:28. > :02:33.last year. Today a jury unanimously found him guilty of murder `nd he

:02:34. > :02:37.was given a life sentence. The Swindon Town striker Nile Ranger

:02:38. > :02:40.has been found not guilty of raping a woman in a hotel room last year.

:02:41. > :02:44.The 22`year`old denied attacking the woman at a hotel in Newcastle while

:02:45. > :02:49.he was still playing for Newcastle United.

:02:50. > :02:51.An investigation is being c`rried out into how the death of a

:02:52. > :02:55.seven`year`old child after heart surgery in Bristol didn't show up on

:02:56. > :02:57.official figures. Luke Jenkhns died in 2012 after developing

:02:58. > :03:01.complications following surgery at the Bristol Children's Hosphtal His

:03:02. > :03:07.parents say his death wasn't recorded properly. Our health

:03:08. > :03:10.correspondent Matthew Hill reports. Luke Jenkins' death after c`rdiac

:03:11. > :03:13.surgery is one of several bding investigated by an independdnt

:03:14. > :03:17.inquiry. Now his parents have discovered that his death w`sn't

:03:18. > :03:25.recorded in official figures compiled by the Bristol Chidrns

:03:26. > :03:28.Hospital. `` childrens Hosphtal Hospital death rates are crtcial.

:03:29. > :03:32.Bristol has slipped from nulber three out of ten to seven over

:03:33. > :03:35.recent years although this hs still considered safe. For the ye`r that

:03:36. > :03:40.Luke died the official stathstics say there were no deaths of children

:03:41. > :03:44.who had Luke's type of heart operation. Luke's parents complained

:03:45. > :03:49.to the medical director of the NHS, Sir Bruce Keogh and they've had an

:03:50. > :03:59.e`mail back from his office. It says:

:04:00. > :04:11.Two years on and still no answers, still no truth from them. It just

:04:12. > :04:15.means everything is more difficult, they shouldn't be putting us through

:04:16. > :04:20.this. They put us through enough taking Luke and to put us through

:04:21. > :04:26.extra stuff as well, which hsn't needed, is pretty disgusting. The

:04:27. > :04:30.hospital say they take the recording of mortality data very seriously and

:04:31. > :04:35.that when they discovered this in January they reported it to the

:04:36. > :04:40.national registry. They say that as they haven't been able to gdt to the

:04:41. > :04:46.bottom of why this happened they suggested a joint investigation with

:04:47. > :04:52.Nicor and the office of Nathonal Statistics. The hospital sax even

:04:53. > :04:55.when `` even when they take into account Luke's death their lortality

:04:56. > :05:02.rate for this type of operation remains within the expected range.

:05:03. > :05:05.Now, flooding has dominated the headlines here since before

:05:06. > :05:08.Christmas. But for those catght up in the floods, it's been

:05:09. > :05:11.life`changing. Tonight on BBC One in the West we have a special programme

:05:12. > :05:14.debating all the issues raised by the devastation in Somerset and

:05:15. > :05:18.asking what the future holds. And you can see that just after national

:05:19. > :05:22.weather in a few minutes tile. Meanwhile, the weather conthnues to

:05:23. > :05:26.cause travel disruption. Colmuters between Bath and Bristol face delays

:05:27. > :05:29.of up to an hour while traffic is diverted away from a road whth a

:05:30. > :05:33.severe case of water damage. Engineers are busy working on the

:05:34. > :05:37.A431 Kelston Road but say it will be closed for at least six months. And

:05:38. > :05:40.train operators say they'll soon be able to inspect the line ne`r

:05:41. > :05:43.Bridgwater which has been underwater for a month. Services have been

:05:44. > :05:46.badly disrupted because of the weather, but today Network Rail said

:05:47. > :05:54.as soon as the floodwater goes down, they should be able to run ` limited

:05:55. > :05:57.service. We really need to see the bottom of the embankment to do an

:05:58. > :06:02.assessment. We are hoping to do that as the waters go down even further.

:06:03. > :06:06.If all goes well we may be `ble to put some service back in within a

:06:07. > :06:10.couple of weeks. That's largely depentedent on the state of what we

:06:11. > :06:14.find `` dependent. There is more news and information on your local

:06:15. > :06:18.BBC radio stations and online and that special debate will be on in a

:06:19. > :06:21.few minutes here on BBC1. For now, let's look at the weather.

:06:22. > :06:26.Thank you. After a cold night we can expect tomorrow to start with a

:06:27. > :06:31.widespread frost and patches of fog, as well. Once we clear that out of

:06:32. > :06:35.the way a pleasant day is on offer with generally speaking a good deal

:06:36. > :06:38.of sunshine at times and it will be feeling quite mild for the lajority.

:06:39. > :06:46.Temperatures tonight will gdt down easily to one or two in somd parts

:06:47. > :06:52.of countryside, below freezhng. Fog, as well, and up through parts of the

:06:53. > :06:58.Severn Valley. Some of that could take to 10.00 tomorrow to clear out

:06:59. > :07:01.of the way. Further east here of the clearer skies. More cloud spilling

:07:02. > :07:05.in through the course of thd afternoon. That cloud is likely to

:07:06. > :07:09.be fragile, so still breaks in that and the winds will be light. It will

:07:10. > :07:13.be a dry day, cloud or not. Temperatures will respond in the

:07:14. > :07:18.brighter spells, up to about ten or 11. Some of you may be sitthng at

:07:19. > :07:21.about eight or nine but feeling comparatively mild. A look `t the

:07:22. > :07:25.outlook: Through Thursday and Friday we do have more cloud around, some

:07:26. > :07:28.patchy light rain at times. Similar story to the weekend but next week

:07:29. > :07:32.is looking promising with hhgh pressure in charge.

:07:33. > :07:39.And with more on that, here is the National forecast.

:07:40. > :07:44.Good evening. The skies across England and Wales are clearing. It

:07:45. > :07:52.will turn cold once again. A different story for Scotland and

:07:53. > :07:56.Northern Ireland. But ahead of that, the skies are clearing for England

:07:57. > :08:02.and Wales. It will turn cold, so we will start tomorrow with a frost and

:08:03. > :08:08.will also be some fog around. The frost will set in, getting down to

:08:09. > :08:11.three below in rural spots. It is not until the latter part of the

:08:12. > :08:16.night where we will see the fog thickening up. All while, the wind

:08:17. > :08:18.is increasing. And we will see some rain setting in by dawn. That

:08:19. > :08:27.combination will keep temperatures above freezing. In rural spots,

:08:28. > :08:32.areas will be below freezing. Across the West of Scotland, not looking

:08:33. > :08:33.great first thing tomorrow morning. Over the hills, there are use

:08:34. > :08:34.significant
