:00:19. > :00:19.Good evening from Points West. The for Jacquelin Thompson.

:00:20. > :00:22.Good evening from Points West. The wife of a cyclist from Somerset who

:00:23. > :00:26.was killed after hitting a pothole is suing the council which failed to

:00:27. > :00:28.repair it. Kate Uzzell has criticised North Yorkshire County

:00:29. > :00:32.Council for allowing the ro`d to fall into such a poor condition It

:00:33. > :00:35.comes as over ?100 million of extra government cash is being made

:00:36. > :00:44.available for repairs. Madeleine Ware reports.

:00:45. > :00:46.Martin was my soul mate, we did lots and lots of things together.

:00:47. > :00:50.Reliving happier times. Kate Uzzell's husband, Martxn, was

:00:51. > :00:54.killed over two and a half xears ago. He was taking part in ` charity

:00:55. > :00:58.cycle ride from Land's End to John O'Groats when he hit a pothole 0cm

:00:59. > :01:04.deep on the A65 in North Yorkshire. He was thrown into the path of a car

:01:05. > :01:08.and died instantly. At an inquest into his death this week, the

:01:09. > :01:11.coroner said there was no doubt that the condition of the road w`s the

:01:12. > :01:15.cause of the accident. The inquest was also told a police

:01:16. > :01:19.officer had reported the pothole to North Yorkshire County Council a

:01:20. > :01:27.month earlier. I'm very angry. It was totally

:01:28. > :01:32.preventable. You know, they had been warned, they had inspected, and they

:01:33. > :01:36.still did nothing. It's just appalling. The County Counchl has

:01:37. > :01:45.expressed its sympathies to Kate and says it will consider the coroner's

:01:46. > :01:49.comments very carefully. We do spend about ?20 million every

:01:50. > :01:56.year on road maintenance. Wd have just put an extra ?5 million in out

:01:57. > :01:58.of the capital surpluses we have generated on the budgets for recent

:01:59. > :02:01.years. Kate, from Clevedon, is now taking

:02:02. > :02:04.legal action against the Cotncil. And she is launching a more

:02:05. > :02:10.widespread education campaign. I want car drivers to be more aware

:02:11. > :02:14.of the vulnerability of cyclists. I want councils to keep the roads in

:02:15. > :02:17.repair and take reports of potholes seriously.

:02:18. > :02:18.It's a campaign she hopes whll bring something positive from Martyn's

:02:19. > :02:28.death. A fire which damaged a live music

:02:29. > :02:34.venue in Bath was caused by an electrical fault. Crews werd called

:02:35. > :02:37.to Moles nightclub and recording studios on George Street yesterday

:02:38. > :02:41.morning. The fire was contahned to the ground floor. It is not yet

:02:42. > :02:44.clear when it may re`open. The railway line between Tatnton and

:02:45. > :02:47.Bristol Temple Meads is due to re`open this morning. First Great

:02:48. > :02:50.Western says that there will be a reduced service to begin with

:02:51. > :02:53.because of the damage caused by flooding at Bridgwater. Thex're also

:02:54. > :03:00.warning passengers that journeys may take longer than normal.

:03:01. > :03:04.Rugby, and Bath have missed out on a place in the final of the LV Cup

:03:05. > :03:07.after being beaten in the semi`finals by Exeter Chiefs. The

:03:08. > :03:10.hosts led 13`8 at the break thanks to Leroy Houston's try and three

:03:11. > :03:18.successful kicks from Tom Hdathcote but Exeter hit back with two tries

:03:19. > :03:23.in the second half. You know, to play particularly well

:03:24. > :03:27.in patches and to lose by three points with a kick at the end to

:03:28. > :03:34.maybe force extra time is rdally disappointing. I think we whll look

:03:35. > :03:40.back on this and regret the chance to get finals. `` get to thd finals.

:03:41. > :03:44.Meanwhile, Bristol ran in sdven tries as they beat Cornish Pirates

:03:45. > :03:48.46`33 at home. Forward Marco Mama scored four tries for the home side.

:03:49. > :03:50.The result means Bristol relain top of the Championship.

:03:51. > :03:52.Just ahead of the weather, ht is congratulations to our Somerset

:03:53. > :03:55.correspondent, Clinton Rogers, and cameraman Steve Powell, who have won

:03:56. > :03:59.a Royal Television Society `ward tonight. It was for their coverage

:04:00. > :04:03.here on Points West of the trial of Jim McCormick, who sold fakd bomb

:04:04. > :04:09.detectors. Well done to thel. Let's get the latest weather

:04:10. > :04:13.prospects now with Emily Wood. Hello, it looks like we will

:04:14. > :04:17.continue with largely dry and settled weather for the week ahead.

:04:18. > :04:20.We will see Clyde at times through the weaker head and tonight

:04:21. > :04:24.increasing amounts of cloud moving in for the first thing tomorrow

:04:25. > :04:28.morning. This cloud possiblx bringing a spot or two of r`in, with

:04:29. > :04:33.the risk of hill fog, but a frost free night, temperatures no lower

:04:34. > :04:42.than four Celsius. Tomorrow which largely dry, `` looks largely dry,

:04:43. > :04:46.temperatures quite mild up to 1 Celsius, possibly not quite feeling

:04:47. > :04:49.so warm as we will have mord cloud through the day. On Tuesday at looks

:04:50. > :04:53.rather cloudy through the d`y, better chance of sunshine probably

:04:54. > :04:56.on Wednesday, particularly on Thursday. Still my own throtgh the

:04:57. > :04:59.day but colder overnight in the middle of the week. We're b`ck from

:05:00. > :05:11.6am tomorrow, good night. It is early in the year to hit 0

:05:12. > :05:18.Celsius. Don't get used to it just yet, but some spots in south-east of

:05:19. > :05:21.England got there. Gravesend the top spot, but with cloud in Scotland and

:05:22. > :05:26.Northern Ireland, the temperatures were held down and a wet end to the

:05:27. > :05:32.day courtesy of this weather front. The rain here dying a way. The cloud

:05:33. > :05:36.here straggling England and Wales, holding the temperatures up. Behind

:05:37. > :05:40.the front in Scotland and Northern Ireland, the clearing skies, the

:05:41. > :05:44.temperatures dropping. A touch of frost and ice over the high ground

:05:45. > :05:49.in Scotland. A hazard in the morning. Showers in the far north of

:05:50. > :05:52.Scotland, but tomorrow a reversal of fortunes. The north of northern

:05:53. > :05:56.England, Scotland and Northern Ireland cloudy today, will be

:05:57. > :06:00.brighter. Maybe a shower in Scotland, but mostly staying dry and

:06:01. > :06:02.with sunny spells and the
