:00:00. > :00:10.Frost. That's all from us. Now it's

:00:11. > :00:15.Good evening. A Somerset flood action grotp made

:00:16. > :00:18.up entirely of local voluntders has been asked to write a report for the

:00:19. > :00:25.Government about how effecthve the help for flood victims has been

:00:26. > :00:33.The day before Christmas Evd. On the 23rd of December, the very first

:00:34. > :00:36.taste of a two month ordeal. The flood defences failed and bx the 6th

:00:37. > :00:41.of January, many sandbagged homes had already lost their fight with

:00:42. > :00:46.the flooding. The road to Mtchelney cut off. On the 24th, as whole

:00:47. > :00:54.villages succumbed, the loc`l council declared a major incident.

:00:55. > :01:00.It meant ` people were told ` the possibility of army intervention.

:01:01. > :01:03.And it's that kind of plannhng and the response that FLAG membdrs like

:01:04. > :01:22.Alfred van Pelt will be reporting back on. We want to show thd epic

:01:23. > :01:25.failures of the services. I wonder what the reaction will be?

:01:26. > :01:31.Environment Secretary Owen Paterson received a hostile reception on the

:01:32. > :01:40.27th. Army boots were finally on the ground at the end of the month. Then

:01:41. > :01:43.on the fifth february the hdlicopter hovering over Fordgate and Loorland

:01:44. > :01:50.that meant many simply abandoned their homes and didn't return for

:01:51. > :01:52.weeks. Many now feel that whth earlier intervention and more

:01:53. > :02:03.energetic help from agencies like the Army, some of the flooddd homes

:02:04. > :02:11.could have been saved. All the agencies including the

:02:12. > :02:18.County Council and the police, they were five weeks behind our dfforts.

:02:19. > :02:21.By the end of February, a htge volunteer aid effort was in full

:02:22. > :02:24.flow. That effort is continting today and for many weeks to come, as

:02:25. > :02:28.victims clear their homes and gardens. FLAG's report will say that

:02:29. > :02:31.much of the Government help was much too little, far too late.

:02:32. > :02:34.The image of a stranded car underwater on the road to Mtchelney

:02:35. > :02:38.became a symbol of the floods and featured on media reports around the

:02:39. > :02:44.world. We tracked down the owner and Jon Kay reunited him with hhs

:02:45. > :02:52.vehicle. Finally visible after weeks underwater. But who does thhs

:02:53. > :02:56.abandoned car belonged to? Hn January, it became an unlikdly icon

:02:57. > :03:03.of the Somerset floods. It was filmed and photographed by ledia

:03:04. > :03:11.from all over the world. Th`t was a car. It shows you how deep the water

:03:12. > :03:15.is here. There's your car! Wow.

:03:16. > :03:20.The owner is Hubert Zajaczkowski, an apprentice engineer originally from

:03:21. > :03:24.Poland. Amazing.

:03:25. > :03:25.You are not going to be driving it home.

:03:26. > :03:29.I don't think so! He escaped from the car on Christmas

:03:30. > :03:35.Eve as the water suddenly w`shed up on the roads. Now he is going to

:03:36. > :03:38.have to share it with the ndw occupants. Once he had found his

:03:39. > :03:39.keys, that is. I think they fell down here

:03:40. > :03:51.somewhere, but... Disgusting. He bought the car two years ago for

:03:52. > :04:04.?600. His pride and joy. It is now all right. `` it is now a

:04:05. > :04:07.write`off. Well, those are some of my hnsurance

:04:08. > :04:10.documents covered in stuff. So what did he think when hhs

:04:11. > :04:16.flooded car became a superstar? Shocking, actually. I did not expect

:04:17. > :04:21.my car to be on telly and international news and newspapers.

:04:22. > :04:24.Everybody is talking about ht. Time for Hubert to get a ride from

:04:25. > :04:34.an amphibious military craft. No time for a coffee break. Next stop,

:04:35. > :04:36.a scrap yard or even a motor museum, where the car from the Somerset

:04:37. > :04:47.floods can finally rust in peace. It was the third day of the

:04:48. > :04:50.Cheltenham Festival today and a big day for Somerset`trained Big Buck's.

:04:51. > :04:53.He's one of racing's greatest horses but today was retired after he

:04:54. > :04:59.failed to regain the World Hurdle title.

:05:00. > :05:05.It was the third day of the Cheltenham Festival today and a big

:05:06. > :05:09.day for Somerset`trained Big Buck's. He's one of racing's greatest horses

:05:10. > :05:28.but today was retired after he failed to regain the World Hurdle

:05:29. > :05:32.title. I could see after a mile th`t he

:05:33. > :05:36.wasn't going as well as he tsed to. Younger legs are beating hil now and

:05:37. > :05:39.there is no point carrying on, asking the impossible.

:05:40. > :05:41.It was an emotional end for the team who have cared for him at the

:05:42. > :05:45.stables in Somerset. I've looked after him for so long

:05:46. > :05:47.now and you just feel emotional He's a great favourite with the

:05:48. > :05:51.public. I cried. All of the pre`race chatter was of

:05:52. > :05:54.the two`horse contest, so nobody saw More Of That coming up the famous

:05:55. > :05:58.Cheltenham hill. Victory for Gloucestershire trainer Jonjo

:05:59. > :06:02.O'Neill. He travelled well all the w`y

:06:03. > :06:06.through the race and he got up the hill well, so it was very nhce.

:06:07. > :06:07.No success yet for Somerset trainer Paul Nicholls, but that could all

:06:08. > :06:27.change tomorrow with the Gold Cup. We are back with you on bre`kfast

:06:28. > :06:40.tomorrow. Good evening. Today was somdthing of

:06:41. > :06:51.a competition between the stn and the fog. It will turn sunny for a

:06:52. > :06:59.number of districts. The Met Office has another warning for fog.

:07:00. > :07:04.Visibility could be poor. Somerset Levels could be affected.

:07:05. > :07:11.Temperatures pretty close to freezing. A touch of frost.

:07:12. > :07:26.Tomorrow, the rush`hour will be plagued by fog. As the day loves on,

:07:27. > :07:29.it will brighten up. Temper`tures will be around 11 degrees. Ht looks

:07:30. > :07:34.like a decent weekend. than it did today across parts of

:07:35. > :07:41.the Thames estuary, temperatures could be 17 or 18 degrees. Now we

:07:42. > :07:48.will get the National forecast. It has been a funny day. Warm and

:07:49. > :07:52.sunny for some, cool and mystique for others, cloudy and damp for a

:07:53. > :07:57.few. Wet weather getting into northern Scotland tonight. Fog is

:07:58. > :08:01.the issue. It already is across the heart of England with thick patches.

:08:02. > :08:06.It could become widespread through the rest of the night. Touches of

:08:07. > :08:10.frost where the skies remain clear for any length of time. Tomorrow

:08:11. > :08:15.morning, difficult conditions across more central and southern parts of

:08:16. > :08:19.England. Dense patches. If you are planning a journey early, allow

:08:20. > :08:23.extra time because you could run into trouble. Check out your BBC

:08:24. > :08:30.local radio station first thing in the morning. There could be some

:08:31. > :08:35.disk -- significant disruption. There is a yellow warning in force.

:08:36. > :08:41.Some of us can look forward too hazy sunshine when the fog lifts. It

:08:42. > :08:46.stays damp across parts of western Scotland, through the Irish sea as

:08:47. > :08:47.well. The Cheltenham, the fog should lift but will stay
