:00:00. > 3:59:59there's a first look at the papers over on the BBC News Channel, but

:00:00. > :00:23.now on Good evening. A woman who w`s the

:00:24. > :00:28.innocent victim of a shooting in her 20s has been found guilty of

:00:29. > :00:31.harassing a victim who left `` a builder who left her home in an

:00:32. > :00:35.unliveable condition. Donna Small was shot ten years ago during a

:00:36. > :00:38.night out. She was left with a bullet in her brain. She fotght for

:00:39. > :00:42.compensation, which she spent on building work ` but when shd tried

:00:43. > :00:45.to get that money back, a m`gistrate ruled that she and her mothdr went

:00:46. > :00:49.too far. Steve Brodie reports. She wasn't expected to live. There

:00:50. > :00:52.are fragments of machine gun bullets inside her brain. This was Donna

:00:53. > :00:55.Small in August 2006. Two ydars before, her life had changed for

:00:56. > :01:00.ever. She and her friend Asha Jamma were on a night out in Bristol. But

:01:01. > :01:04.the car they were in was riddled with bullets. Asha lost the sight in

:01:05. > :01:07.one eye, Donna was left dis`bled. It's changed everything. I have to

:01:08. > :01:12.do loads of exercises every morning when I get up. I can't do things on

:01:13. > :01:17.my own. I'm scared to go outside the house. I can't sleep at night. It

:01:18. > :01:21.took eight long years for Donna Small to win compensation for being

:01:22. > :01:25.after being shot down in thd street ` an incident which left her

:01:26. > :01:28.disabled. She invested her `ward in this bungalow and hired builder

:01:29. > :01:31.Darren Finnear to carry out the renovation. Solicitors acting for

:01:32. > :01:34.Donna handed over nearly ?70,00 but when his contract was eventtally

:01:35. > :01:41.terminated the house was uninhabitable. Alan Wright hs a

:01:42. > :01:44.chartered surveyor and an independent building expert. The

:01:45. > :01:48.UPVC subframe has been smashed completely. There are wires hanging

:01:49. > :01:54.down everywhere. Very subst`ndard. Bare wires. The state of thd site

:01:55. > :01:59.itself is... Is diabolical. The debris, the loose wires. Thdre's no

:02:00. > :02:05.regard for health and safetx whatsoever. We asked Mr Finnear for

:02:06. > :02:08.an interview but he declined. Today magistrates were told the house was

:02:09. > :02:12.in a worse condition than it had been before the work began. Donna

:02:13. > :02:15.and her mother Jacqui Probert pursued the builder for thehr money.

:02:16. > :02:20.They sent him a series of angry and abusive texts, and Donna threw a

:02:21. > :02:22.small bottle of after shave at him. Bristol magistrates found Donna

:02:23. > :02:25.guilty of harassment and assault. She was handed a conditional

:02:26. > :02:30.discharge. Her mother was found guilty of harassment and was given a

:02:31. > :02:36.community order for one year. The ten`year ordeal has left its toll on

:02:37. > :02:42.Donna. It's just been awful. I think it's disgusting. I just feel so let

:02:43. > :02:49.down. There's been a lot of tears, ups and downs. Today the magistrates

:02:50. > :02:56.described the background to the case as distressing, but said thd course

:02:57. > :02:59.taken by the women was wrong. An investigation's begun into

:03:00. > :03:02.allegations that Jimmy Savile may have carried out abuse at a

:03:03. > :03:08.children's home in Gloucestdrshire. Parklands Home at Whitminstdr closed

:03:09. > :03:11.in 2002. It's one of more than 0 mentioned in claims against the

:03:12. > :03:15.disgraced presenter as the result of an anonymous letter. Gloucestershire

:03:16. > :03:20.County Council says it'll bd carrying out a full investigation

:03:21. > :03:22.into the allegations. The family of the murdered Somerset

:03:23. > :03:27.woman Catherine Wells`Burr have handed in a petition at Downing

:03:28. > :03:30.Street today. It's in opposhtion to the deportation of two of hdr

:03:31. > :03:34.killers, who've asked to serve the remainder of their jail terl in

:03:35. > :03:40.their native Poland. Her falily fear the killers' sentences could be cut

:03:41. > :03:43.if they leave the UK. Ireland's National Trust is

:03:44. > :03:47.challenging the new nuclear power station planned for Hinkley Point.

:03:48. > :03:51.It claims people in Ireland could be affected by the plant, which is 150

:03:52. > :03:56.miles away from them, and bdlieves they should have been consulted The

:03:57. > :04:01.government here says it carried out all the necessary investigations for

:04:02. > :04:04.the ?16 billion project. The keys to the West's first

:04:05. > :04:08.super`hospital at Southmead in Bristol have been handed ovdr. Not

:04:09. > :04:11.everyone's happy with the ?430 million scheme, which will see a

:04:12. > :04:18.downgrading of Frenchay Hospital and mean longer journey times for some

:04:19. > :04:21.patients. But many have welcomed the changes and say the old second world

:04:22. > :04:29.war buildings at Frenchay ` which were intended to be temporary ` are

:04:30. > :04:31.now out of date. Will Glennon has been to Southmead to see thd new

:04:32. > :04:35.facilities. A mix of steel, concrete and glass

:04:36. > :04:42.which, combined with doctors and nurses and the latest technology,

:04:43. > :04:46.promises world class patient care. If you've had a stroke or hdart

:04:47. > :04:49.attack or been in a car acchdent, this is where the hospital staff

:04:50. > :04:52.will try and save your life. Juliette Hughes helped design this

:04:53. > :04:58.area. It's where she'll be working ` and they've tried to get evdrything

:04:59. > :05:02.in the right place. We went to lots of hospitals and we took all the

:05:03. > :05:06.best things from other placds and learned some lessons from other

:05:07. > :05:09.areas. And when we look at how this is now finishing, it's really pretty

:05:10. > :05:12.impressive. Up on the wards, the rooms are ready for patients. This

:05:13. > :05:16.is one of our individual side rooms, which is great. I mean, the space in

:05:17. > :05:20.here is fantastic. 600 of the 8 0 beds will be in private rools with

:05:21. > :05:26.private facilities. Privacy and dignity are very important for

:05:27. > :05:29.patients. They need to know that they can have a conversation with

:05:30. > :05:32.nurses or doctors, or any therapists, which is out of earshot

:05:33. > :05:36.of people who don't really need to hear it. Also, any examinathon

:05:37. > :05:40.patients may need can be done in the privacy of this room. It's just so

:05:41. > :05:44.much better for patients. And while wards are on one side of thd

:05:45. > :05:49.hospital, all the operations will take place on the other. Thhs is one

:05:50. > :05:52.of 24 operating theatres in this new hospital. It will be equippdd with

:05:53. > :05:55.the latest new technology ` scanning, lasers and, of cotrse

:05:56. > :06:05.X`rays. It will help both strgeons and patients. Having everything in

:06:06. > :06:08.one place should make surgeons' jobs easier and could even cut the number

:06:09. > :06:12.of operations. There are sthll some finishing touches being put to the

:06:13. > :06:19.building but it's on time and on budget. The first patients `re due

:06:20. > :06:22.through the doors in May. And as that opening day gets nearer

:06:23. > :06:27.we'll keep you updated on everything you need to know. We're back

:06:28. > :06:29.tomorrow from 6am, but for now I'll hand you on to Ian for our late

:06:30. > :06:37.forecast. Hello, good evening. Another showery

:06:38. > :06:40.day on offer for Friday. Yes, some of those showers will be he`vy in

:06:41. > :06:44.places but equally there will be some drier, brighter spells as well.

:06:45. > :06:47.A milder day than today. In some places, three or four degreds up on

:06:48. > :06:51.today's values. Temperatures tonight instead will be down to abott three

:06:52. > :06:54.to four Celsius so a fairly chilly affair and that's how things will

:06:55. > :06:56.start tomorrow with already some showers in abundance. Some of

:06:57. > :06:59.those, through the course of tomorrow, could be giving some

:07:00. > :07:02.torrential downpours. Maybe a threat of lightning as well. It is worth

:07:03. > :07:05.emphasising either side of those, with uncertain distribution, there

:07:06. > :07:09.will be some drier, sunnier spells. And in those, temperatures will be,

:07:10. > :07:12.like I said, quite a bit up on today's values. So a bit of mixed

:07:13. > :07:16.fortunes on the temperature chart. Maybe as low as eight and nhne but

:07:17. > :07:20.in other places, we could bd getting higher than you're seeing there up

:07:21. > :07:23.to maybe 12 or 13 Celsius or so The temperatures will definitelx rise

:07:24. > :07:27.during the course of the wedkend ` easily up to 15, 16, 17 Celsius with

:07:28. > :07:29.some hazy sunshine around. @nd it will continue to be a case of warm

:07:30. > :07:42.weather into the start of Hello, as winter becomes spring the

:07:43. > :07:45.atmosphere contains more energy The shower clouds grow taller. If

:07:46. > :07:50.conditions are right, you get thunder storms. There have been some

:07:51. > :07:56.today. Bob took this picture near London this afternoon. The spring

:07:57. > :08:01.flowers will appreciate the re turn return of warmth. Until then big

:08:02. > :08:05.showers to come, pushing in across south-west England - some hail and

:08:06. > :08:10.thunder. Sleet and snow on to the top of the moors.

:08:11. > :08:12.From Norfolk to coastal England into Northern Ireland.
