:00:00. > :00:15.Good evening. A survivor of a huge That's all from us.

:00:16. > :00:19.Good evening. A survivor of a huge crash on the M5 has been telling an

:00:20. > :00:23.inquest how it was impossible to see anything on the night it happened.

:00:24. > :00:34.Emma Burbull was orphaned in the accident in 2011. She says ht was

:00:35. > :00:37."like someone had put a plastic bag around you". Our reporter Scott

:00:38. > :00:41.Ellis was at the inquest today. It was a night when 34 vehicles

:00:42. > :00:44.crashed in just 69 seconds. Part of the police evidence given at the

:00:45. > :00:48.inquest today in Taunton. The coroner was told of a bank of fog so

:00:49. > :00:52.thick it left one stricken driver wondering, where the hell h`s the

:00:53. > :00:56.motorway gone? The descripthons are very consistent. Like having woken

:00:57. > :01:00.in the morning after it snowed, sit in the car they can't see anything.

:01:01. > :01:20.Or emulsion is thrown over the car or blankets thrown over The coroner

:01:21. > :01:25.is very keen to explore if the fog is natural or man`made. We've heard

:01:26. > :01:28.from one eyewitness who says they smelt gunpowder, a referencd to the

:01:29. > :01:32.nearby fireworks display. Btt in all the accounts today, there w`s no

:01:33. > :01:36.reference at all to any detdction of the smell of smoke. Although the car

:01:37. > :01:40.drivers did say it was fog like they've never seen it beford. Such

:01:41. > :01:43.detail is important for the bereaved families attending the inqudst and

:01:44. > :01:50.crash survivors were here to give evidence. I think there needs to be

:01:51. > :01:53.a conclusion. Some sort of understandable explanation of what

:01:54. > :01:59.happened to all those peopld that were involved in the accident. One

:02:00. > :02:03.driver told the inquest he was hit three times in five seconds. It was,

:02:04. > :02:08.he said, like his lorry had been picked up and shaken. So thhck was

:02:09. > :02:11.the fog, nobody had time to brake. Witnesses told the inquest they

:02:12. > :02:20.heard no squealing of brakes, just the constant flood of crashhng

:02:21. > :02:22.vehicles. Thousands of people have johned

:02:23. > :02:26.their company pension schemd today, without signing a thing. It's a

:02:27. > :02:29.Government programme called "automatic enrolment", aimed at

:02:30. > :02:32.getting more people to save for retirement. Our business

:02:33. > :02:37.correspondent Dave Harvey h`s been to Cheltenham, to meet workdrs who

:02:38. > :02:41.know all about it. Every day and many nights, Helen

:02:42. > :02:45.cares for people in their l`ter years at this Cheltenham residential

:02:46. > :02:49.home. But only recently has Helen started thinking about paying for

:02:50. > :02:54.her own retirement. I haven't always worked full`time. I've workdd

:02:55. > :02:57.part`time. But you don't thhnk of a pension. I was married and H was

:02:58. > :03:01.just relying on my husband's pension. Helen hasn't actually made

:03:02. > :03:06.a decision. The Government has signed her up for a pension

:03:07. > :03:10.automatically. She can opt out if she wants but if she does nothing,

:03:11. > :03:14.her pension pots will just start growing. The same reasons wd never

:03:15. > :03:19.quite got round to starting to save in the first place ` that it's all

:03:20. > :03:22.just a bit complicated and we don't want to think about it ` will

:03:23. > :03:26.hopefully mean that once we're put in a pension, we'll stay thdre. They

:03:27. > :03:29.can harness that inertia, ptt people in the right place, they'll stay

:03:30. > :03:33.there and start saving for retirement. Your employer is going

:03:34. > :03:37.to contribute towards it. The taxman is going to give you some of it as

:03:38. > :03:40.well. Like many, the care home has brought in pension experts to deal

:03:41. > :03:43.with the tricky questions. Ht's complicated, it's costly and not

:03:44. > :03:46.everyone is playing the gamd. Something like 48% of companies

:03:47. > :03:51.haven't actually got a penshon scheme at the moment. And a good

:03:52. > :03:56.number of them are saying that, if at all possible, they would avoid

:03:57. > :04:01.it. Today, Helen's pay will only drop by 1% but over the next four

:04:02. > :04:06.years, pension payments will rise. And Helen thinks many peopld could

:04:07. > :04:13.put more in right away. I mdan, if 1% is ?13, a lot of people could

:04:14. > :04:23.afford to put 5%. And then hf they match it, your fund would gdt larger

:04:24. > :04:27.more quickly. Wouldn't it? And as part of our series looking at

:04:28. > :04:30.growing older here on BBC Points West, we're looking at diffdrent

:04:31. > :04:32.ways of funding your retirelent Tomorrow we're focusing on

:04:33. > :04:37.alternatives to a tradition`l pension, such as property

:04:38. > :04:40.investment. People in a village near Bath are

:04:41. > :04:44.calling for the police to intervene after their quiet country l`nes have

:04:45. > :04:48.been turned into commuter r`t runs. Upton Cheney is popular with horse

:04:49. > :04:54.riders ` but many say they won't go out after a horse was hit bx a car

:04:55. > :04:57.last week. Michelle Ruminskh reports.

:04:58. > :05:02.I saw this car approaching le from a distance. I could see that ht was

:05:03. > :05:07.going far too fast and I thought I was in trouble. We can only show a

:05:08. > :05:10.small section of this picture. The car that hit this horse smashed its

:05:11. > :05:18.lower legs. 71`year`old jockey Grant Cann was thrown from its back, then

:05:19. > :05:23.crushed underneath. We had to put it down. But it took an hour and a half

:05:24. > :05:26.before it could be shot. So it had terrific suffering. A landslip means

:05:27. > :05:31.the main route from Bitton to Bath is closed for months to comd. And

:05:32. > :05:34.the quiet village of Upton Cheney is a convenient short cut for hundreds

:05:35. > :05:39.of delayed drivers racing to get to work. Even if they're not speeding,

:05:40. > :05:43.they need to be aware that hf they're only driving 30 milds an

:05:44. > :05:48.hour, if they need to stop suddenly, they will slide an awful long way.

:05:49. > :05:53.People ride on the lanes evdry day here. Now some say they're keeping

:05:54. > :05:57.their horses at home. Prettx much every time you go out, you get a

:05:58. > :06:01.near miss with a car. And it's not cars that we recognise ` it's people

:06:02. > :06:04.that aren't used to driving through the lanes. South Gloucestershire

:06:05. > :06:09.Council is reducing the limhts here to 20 mph. Locals hope it whll rein

:06:10. > :06:11.in the drivers and make lifd safer for the horses ` and their riders,

:06:12. > :06:24.too. More news on the BBC websitd and

:06:25. > :06:29.we're back tomorrow in BBC Breakfast. But now the weather

:06:30. > :06:33.picture and Ian is here. The key difference tomorrow compared

:06:34. > :06:37.to today will be a greater threat of showers. Western areas will see the

:06:38. > :06:40.bulk of those. There will bd some drier and brighter interludds and

:06:41. > :06:48.where we have those, it will be mild and warm. A few showers starting to

:06:49. > :06:52.develop as the night wears on and they lay open the story into

:06:53. > :06:57.tomorrow with some heavy showers already by the start of the morning,

:06:58. > :07:00.some with a rumble of thunddr. We continue this process throughout the

:07:01. > :07:04.rest of the day. The bulk are out towards the West but some at times

:07:05. > :07:08.will get into parts of Wiltshire and East Gloucestershire, albeit less

:07:09. > :07:13.generally and perhaps the bdst of the brighter spells there.

:07:14. > :07:19.Temperatures getting up into the mid teens, about 14 to 16. As wd look

:07:20. > :07:21.beyond that, there could be some possibly thundery rain pushhng

:07:22. > :07:26.northwards during the first half of Thursday. A better day generally on

:07:27. > :07:29.Friday and then we start to get into an unsettled, if fresh weekdnd.

:07:30. > :07:33.Particularly wet on Sunday `nd rather windy.

:07:34. > :07:42.the afternoon. The outlook, rather cloudy with some rain on Thursday.

:07:43. > :07:44.Good evening. Before we get to the weather details,
