:00:11. > :00:14.Good evening. The Bristol businessman Shrien Dewani h`s
:00:15. > :00:19.appeared in court in South @frica today. After a three year fhght to
:00:20. > :00:24.stay in Britain, he finally stood before a judge in Cape Town and was
:00:25. > :00:27.charged with the murder of his wife. A private plane, chartered by the
:00:28. > :00:31.South African authorities arrived to collect Mr Dewani from Bristol
:00:32. > :00:34.Airport. On board a doctor, a nurse, members of the South African police
:00:35. > :00:38.force and interpol. His flight left at 8pm. This morning, he landed in
:00:39. > :00:41.Cape Town at around 8.30 our time. He was immediately driven across
:00:42. > :00:44.town, in a police convoy, straight to the Western Cape High Cotrt. Once
:00:45. > :01:00.in the court, after a short delay, he was brought before a judge.
:01:01. > :01:03.There's been plenty of reaction to today's developments back hdre.
:01:04. > :01:06.Earlier, the Justice Ministdr, Simon Hughes, was visiting Bristol and we
:01:07. > :01:08.asked him if he thought it was right that Shrien Dewani has been
:01:09. > :01:12.extradited. The UK Government is very clear that
:01:13. > :01:15.justice must be done in the country where the relevant trial should take
:01:16. > :01:18.place. Provided the country has a fair judicial system, extradition is
:01:19. > :01:21.right. It is right thereford that there will be extradition and the
:01:22. > :01:25.trial will proceed. But people must not be allowed to flee from justice.
:01:26. > :01:29.We are very clear that we would not export people to a country that
:01:30. > :01:37.would abuse or torture them, or which would impose the death
:01:38. > :01:40.penalty. Both families have also givdn their
:01:41. > :01:43.reactions to the start of proceedings in South Africa. Shrien
:01:44. > :01:46.Dewani's family have said that he "remains committed to proving his
:01:47. > :01:51.innocence" and "uncovering the truth behind his wife's murder".
:01:52. > :01:56.While the family of Swedish national Anni Dewani welcomed the extradition
:01:57. > :02:05.adding "justice is the only thing in our minds".
:02:06. > :02:11.Police in Bristol are asking for help to find a man who attacked an

:02:15. > :02:17.collecting her pension at the post office in Sea Mills, at lunch time
:02:18. > :02:21.yesterday. She was hit several times around the head with the halmer and
:02:22. > :02:25.had to be treated in hospit`l. She's now recovering at home ` but is said
:02:26. > :02:27.to be shocked and distressed about what happened.
:02:28. > :02:30.We have additional patrols hn the area because of what's happdned I
:02:31. > :02:34.don't want people to be fearful but all I would say is please bd
:02:35. > :02:41.vigilant. And if anybody seds anyone in the area acting suspiciotsly
:02:42. > :02:45.please call 999. An inquest into the M5 crash has
:02:46. > :02:48.heard today that CCTV at Junction 25 on the night in question was working
:02:49. > :02:51.` but that images weren't rdcorded due to a technical fault. A
:02:52. > :02:55.representative from the Highways Agency told the hearing that there
:02:56. > :02:57.was no automated system in place on the motorway to detect reduced
:02:58. > :03:00.visibility, adding that thex relied on cameras positioned along the
:03:01. > :03:08.carriageway and reports frol the public. The inquest will resume in
:03:09. > :03:11.the morning. One of Somerset's premier theatres
:03:12. > :03:15.re`opened tonight ` more th`n a year after going bust. The Brewhouse in
:03:16. > :03:22.Taunton is now being run by a community group who are convinced
:03:23. > :03:30.they can make it work. The Scout and Guide Gang Show will bring the
:03:31. > :03:33.curtain up on the new`look theatre. It's the 25th anniversary of the
:03:34. > :03:39.Taunton Gang Show. # The time has come to bring down
:03:40. > :03:43.the curtain...#. In spite of what they say, ht's not
:03:44. > :03:46.curtain down, it's curtain tp at the newly re`opened Brewhouse Theatre.
:03:47. > :03:50.The first live show here for more than a year. No pressure thdn.
:03:51. > :03:55.You're worried and you're lhke I don't want to get it wrong!".
:03:56. > :04:03.There is a bit of pressure. We do have to put on a good show to show
:04:04. > :04:07.people the Brewhouse is back. February last year saw the Brewhouse
:04:08. > :04:11.close. Those in charge just ran out of money ` blaming funding cuts for
:04:12. > :04:14.the theatre's demise. Since then, the local council who own the
:04:15. > :04:17.building have given a five xear lease to a community group.They re
:04:18. > :04:22.pinning their hopes on volunteer support.
:04:23. > :04:26.Everyone here today from thd director to those dusting the
:04:27. > :04:29.tables, stocking the bar, c`rrying out running repairs, sorting the
:04:30. > :04:40.admin, and booking new acts ` all unpaid.
:04:41. > :04:44.When people volunteer, they put their heart into things, whhch is
:04:45. > :04:54.often not the case when you're relying on paid staff. But ht is
:04:55. > :05:01.tough, I'm not saying it's dasy # Riding along on the crest of a
:05:02. > :05:04.wave...#. The Brewhouse is running on the
:05:05. > :05:08.crest of a wave of enthusiasm ` this show 85% sold out. The acid test
:05:09. > :05:12.will be ` can they sustain that long`term? And will they be able to
:05:13. > :05:13.maintain the enthusiasm of the volunteers? Will they succedd where
:05:14. > :05:32.the business model failed? Two police forces in the West more
:05:33. > :05:34.than doubled their use of t`sers last year according to figures from
:05:35. > :05:37.the Home Office.Wiltshire Police deployed the 50,000 volt we`pons 227
:05:38. > :05:41.times while Dorset Police used them 109 times. The rise in Wiltshire is
:05:42. > :05:50.down to the fact that many lore officers are actually carryhng
:05:51. > :05:53.tasers on duty. The headline is we're using it more.
:05:54. > :05:57.Well, that's because more pdople have got it and they are ushng it.
:05:58. > :06:01.There are using it properly. I don't have a concern. If they werd not,
:06:02. > :06:04.I'd obviously have a concern. I ve made it clear to the Chief Constable
:06:05. > :06:07.but operationally I would bd disappointed if these were being
:06:08. > :06:22.used in neighbourhoods. These are a response tool, not an everyday tool.
:06:23. > :06:25.I think people accept that. It's another crucial night for
:06:26. > :06:28.Yeovil Town in their bid to avoid relegation from the Championship.
