:01:33. > :01:35.This case has already sparkdd a fierce debate. In 2011 Sergdant
:01:36. > :01:38.Blackman was among marines on the front line in Helmand fighthng a
:01:39. > :01:41.ruthless enemy, and whilst he's been convicted of murder, his falily
:01:42. > :01:51.believe he, too, has become a casualty of war. It is war. It is
:01:52. > :01:59.every shade of grey. I'm not ashamed of him, because he was doing his job
:02:00. > :02:08.and doing his duty. That is what he was sent out to do, to get rid of
:02:09. > :02:12.the insurgents. The trouble is we are trying very hard to rathonalise
:02:13. > :02:16.something that happened in ` war zone in a different country on the
:02:17. > :02:20.other side of the world in circumstances that none of ts will
:02:21. > :02:25.ever begin to understand. Yet it was a panel of fellow marines
:02:26. > :02:29.and sailors which found him guilty. Britain's most senior soldidrs
:02:30. > :02:33.called it a heinous crime. It's now up to the Court of Appeal
:02:34. > :02:38.to decided if Al Blackman h`s been judged fairly.

:02:47. > :02:51.locked her pet dog in a kitchen without food or water and ldft it to
:02:52. > :02:54.die has been jailed for 18 weeks. Katy Gammon has also been b`nned
:02:55. > :02:58.from keeping animals for life after the court said it was one of the
:02:59. > :03:03.most serious cases of animal cruelty they have ever seen. Michelle
:03:04. > :03:07.Ruminski reports. This was the moment RSPCA officers
:03:08. > :03:21.untied the rope to the kitchen where Roxy had been locked inside. You
:03:22. > :03:24.were aware of the stench. It had ripped the Dawn French piecds where
:03:25. > :03:30.it had chewed and scratched trying to get out. The dog was lying there
:03:31. > :03:34.and decaying on the floor. We can't show you the next pictures.
:03:35. > :03:38.They are too upsetting. Roxx died after being left no food or water.
:03:39. > :03:42.Her owner, Katy Gammon, had moved out ten weeks ago. A postmortem
:03:43. > :03:48.examination found Roxy suffdred a "prolonged and painful" death. The
:03:49. > :03:52.court heard Roxy was only found because neighbours spotted flies at
:03:53. > :03:54.the window of the house she was in. At a previous hearing, Katy Gammon
:03:55. > :03:57.pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to thd dog and
:03:58. > :04:02.failing to prevent causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
:04:03. > :04:06.The prosecuting lawyer told the court that when anyone asked her
:04:07. > :04:15.about Roxy, she lied and sahd her ex`boyfriend was looking after her,
:04:16. > :04:23.who she no longer lived with. I burst out crying when I first found
:04:24. > :04:25.out, but I didn't know it w`s this bad until I found out from the
:04:26. > :04:29.police. Today her defence lawyer sahd that
:04:30. > :04:32.Gammon was a young lady who was not coping well with the stressds of
:04:33. > :04:35.life and that Gammon had trhed to rehome Roxy. There were statements
:04:36. > :04:38.from family and friends sayhng her actions were completely out of
:04:39. > :04:41.character. Outside court, animal rights groups called on the court to
:04:42. > :04:47.ban Gammon from keeping anilals for life. The RSPCA says it's pleased
:04:48. > :04:55.with the 18`week sentence. Ht was the most she could have been given.
:04:56. > :04:59.It has made it quite clear that society won't accept that. The RSPCA
:05:00. > :05:07.will always prosecute such things. Chair of the bench Rod Mayall said
:05:08. > :05:10.Katy Gammon had showed limited remorse and had given up two offers
:05:11. > :05:15.of alternative accommodation for the dog. He went on to say that this is
:05:16. > :05:18.one of the most serious casds of animal cruelty that they have ever
