:00:12. > :00:15.Good evening. A motoring organisation is

:00:16. > :00:19.criticising the council in Bath after it generated a quarter of a

:00:20. > :00:22.million pounds in fines in ` single month. The controversy is over the

:00:23. > :00:26.so`called "bus gate" which bans cars from the road in front of the bus

:00:27. > :00:31.station during the day. Ali Vowles reports.

:00:32. > :00:35.Who would have thought that such a short stretch of road from the bus

:00:36. > :00:38.station to the train station could cause motorists so many problems?

:00:39. > :00:44.Everything except buses and taxis are banned from 10`6 one wax. All

:00:45. > :00:48.these cars going up through the lights today will be issued with a

:00:49. > :00:53.hefty fine. So let me give xou at a few facts and figures. The council

:00:54. > :00:56.says that in that four`week period, 9,000 vehicles have gone down

:00:57. > :01:01.Dorchester Street through the bus gate and broken the rules. Now, that

:01:02. > :01:06.has generated an income of ?250 000. If they do not pay within 14 days,

:01:07. > :01:12.it could be even more. That equates to around one vehicle breakhng the

:01:13. > :01:16.rules every 3`4 minutes. But many locals and tourists say there just

:01:17. > :01:20.isn't enough warning. Part of the confusion seems to have

:01:21. > :01:23.arisen from the signage. Th`t is the first time you see you're not

:01:24. > :01:27.allowed to go down the bus gate area. But as you approach it,

:01:28. > :01:30.there's a rather confusing sign here. If you're a tourist to Bath,

:01:31. > :01:34.for all intents and purposes, it looks as if you can go left to

:01:35. > :01:38.Southgate and the train station meaning you break the law. Ht is not

:01:39. > :01:41.clear until you are too latd. The signs are very small and by the time

:01:42. > :01:45.you... Well, I think most pdople would not even have noticed they had

:01:46. > :01:50.done it. And they would think, well, why have I been caught? I lhve in

:01:51. > :01:54.the middle of Bath and they did not let us know that you could not drive

:01:55. > :01:56.down there. Is that what yot mean? No, I didn't know. Chaotic, really.

:01:57. > :01:59.Very confusing. The whole scheme is experimdntal,

:02:00. > :02:03.and for the first two months, those breaking the rules were issted with

:02:04. > :02:06.a warning letter but no find. Now the softly`softly approach hs over.

:02:07. > :02:09.People are getting letters `nd they say, we're not being fined by the

:02:10. > :02:13.council, therefore, it's all right, we can carry on going through there.

:02:14. > :02:16.So how do we get the right results? We will know what the proper result

:02:17. > :02:20.is from our trial period. The council believes it has given

:02:21. > :02:22.enough warning, but there are many who disagree.

:02:23. > :02:26.This signage is having no ilpact. You can tell that because of the

:02:27. > :02:30.number of penalty tickets that have been issued. Motorists are not just

:02:31. > :02:34.awkward. They do not set out in the morning to try to get a ?60 penalty

:02:35. > :02:37.ticket. Quite the reverse. H think the majority of motorists try to

:02:38. > :02:42.obey the Highway Code, but hn this case, they really cannot sed what

:02:43. > :02:46.they are supposed to be doing. Extra signs will be going up in the

:02:47. > :02:51.next few weeks and a decision may be taken in June. Until then, ht seems

:02:52. > :02:59.the problem will go on and on and on.

:03:00. > :03:02.A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault at a care home in

:03:03. > :03:05.Gloucester. Detectives say the 31`year`old has been bailed to

:03:06. > :03:09.attend Gloucester police st`tion in August pending further enquhries.

:03:10. > :03:12.The Care Quality Commission has confirmed it's looking into the

:03:13. > :03:15.allegations. One man has been jailed and handed a

:03:16. > :03:20.six`year football banning order following violence at the Bristol

:03:21. > :03:22.City versus Bristol Rovers derby. A further four men were also given

:03:23. > :03:27.football banning orders and suspended jail terms. The trouble

:03:28. > :03:33.took place before, during and after the Johnstone's Paint Trophx clash

:03:34. > :03:36.at Ashton Gate last Septembdr. Royalty came face to face whth its

:03:37. > :03:40.treacherous ancestry in Somdrset today. The Duke of Gloucestdr

:03:41. > :03:43.visited the county museum's Monmouth Rebellion room, which is devoted to

:03:44. > :03:52.an attempt to overthrow the monarchy 300 years ago. Clinton Rogers has

:03:53. > :03:57.the story. Face to face with an ancient foe `

:03:58. > :04:04.Somerset was the seat of thd Duke of Monmouth's rebellion during his

:04:05. > :04:08.attempts to overthrow King James II. This museum display tells of the

:04:09. > :04:13.bloody battle of Sedgemoor. Monmouth's rebels were defe`ted and

:04:14. > :04:16.300 were later sentenced to death. And, as it turns out, the Dtke of

:04:17. > :04:20.Gloucester and Monmouth are distant relatives.

:04:21. > :04:26.A slightly uneasy place to be, Your Royal Highness? Well, not rdally! I

:04:27. > :04:29.think he has probably got used to the fact that he has got ancestry

:04:30. > :04:32.that leads in two rather different directions and I think he is

:04:33. > :04:36.genuinely interested in his more rebellious ancestors as well.

:04:37. > :04:40.Earlier, the Duke did what he had come to do ` officially open Castle

:04:41. > :04:44.House in Taunton, described as one of the finest medieval buildings in

:04:45. > :04:49.the West and restored at a cost of ?1 million by the Somerset Buildings

:04:50. > :04:52.Preservation Trust. Nationally, it is important, because

:04:53. > :04:55.it is probably where Judge Jeffreys actually stayed during the dvents.

:04:56. > :04:58.So that makes it nationally important. As a piece of

:04:59. > :05:01.architecture, it is a Grade I building, so it is nationally very

:05:02. > :05:05.important. That is the top tier of buildings in the country. This is

:05:06. > :05:09.what Castle House looked like two years ago ` a landmark propdrty but

:05:10. > :05:13.so run down it was on the English Heritage at`risk register. Restoring

:05:14. > :05:19.it cost ?1 million, much of that money coming from the National

:05:20. > :05:24.Lottery Heritage Fund. And now, if it takes your fancy, you can

:05:25. > :05:27.actually book accommodation here. You can even sit in the rool where

:05:28. > :05:32.it is said Judge Jeffreys stayed while sentencing Monmouth's rebels

:05:33. > :05:44.to hang. It has been quite ` day today for a royal with rebellious

:05:45. > :05:46.blood. One of the biggest shocks in the

:05:47. > :05:53.history of the World The 24`year`old ` who's makhng his

:05:54. > :05:57.debut in the tournament ` bdat world number two Ding Junhui 10`9 in a

:05:58. > :06:00.final frame decider to reach the second round on Saturday evdning.

:06:01. > :06:03.The latest work by street artist Banksy has attracted around 3,0 0

:06:04. > :06:05.people a day to Bristol's Chty Museum over the bank holidax

:06:06. > :06:09.weekend. Mobile Lovers first appeared in a doorway in Cldment

:06:10. > :06:14.Street before it was taken `way by the leader of a nearby youth

:06:15. > :06:18.project. He claimed it was ` gift to his club. It's staying at the museum

:06:19. > :06:21.until the ownership dispute can be resolved.

:06:22. > :06:24.There's more news on the BBC Website. We're back during BBC

:06:25. > :06:26.Breakfast tomorrow. But for now I'll leave you with Ian, who has the

:06:27. > :06:38.latest forecast. We still have showers to cldar away

:06:39. > :06:43.northwards into tonight. Tolorrow, cloudy skies will return,

:06:44. > :06:46.particularly in the abdomen. The second half of the day will be

:06:47. > :06:50.wetter, rain spreading slowly and erratically eastwards. Tonight will

:06:51. > :06:56.be quite mild with temperattres of 7`8 Celsius. There are some showers

:06:57. > :07:04.cleaving to the North. Many areas. Dry with a few bright spells

:07:05. > :07:07.tomorrow. Slowly, slowly, the rain is moving north eastwards. Ht will

:07:08. > :07:12.turn more fragmentary as a soul getting out of parts of Glotcester

:07:13. > :07:17.and culture. For some of yot, there will be outbreaks of rain about

:07:18. > :07:24.Still some showers lasting on into the evening. Temperatures whll vary

:07:25. > :07:28.depending on where the rain is, reaching 12 ` 14 Celsius for the

:07:29. > :07:31.most part. First is better, bright spells around, but some of xou will

:07:32. > :07:36.have some showers around in the afternoon. Warmer on Friday,

:07:37. > :07:43.is not looking too bad. That's weather front.

:07:44. > :07:48.It is never too early to think about next weekend and I will be doing

:07:49. > :07:53.that in a couple of minutes. But we have a sizeable chunk of this

:07:54. > :07:58.week's whether to go first. There are more showers, but there will be

:07:59. > :08:04.spells of warm sunshine around as well, so there will be no frost at

:08:05. > :08:07.night. Bands of showers across the western side of the UK and

:08:08. > :08:12.Scotland's passing through overnight. Another heavy burst

:08:13. > :08:21.coming into the south-west later on in the night. This rain band slowly

:08:22. > :08:22.comes in from the South West and this is how Wednesday starts
