:00:00. > :00:08.and all the pupils to study there. That

:00:09. > :00:14.Welcome to BBC Points West with Will Glennon and Alex Lovell. Our main

:00:15. > :00:17.story tonight: More than half the police stations in Avon and Somerset

:00:18. > :00:20.are to be closed. The Chief Constable says budget cuts have

:00:21. > :00:26.forced the move but some believe the service will suffer. I think people

:00:27. > :00:32.are concerned that they want to see police officers locally. Thdy want

:00:33. > :00:37.access to the police. The ctts were announced on the day that the force

:00:38. > :00:46.unveiled this new ?20 million centre. We will be looking `t what

:00:47. > :00:53.the changes mean and how our communities will be affected.

:00:54. > :00:56.Our other headlines tonight: Swindon footballer Nile Ranger is bding

:00:57. > :01:00.questioned by police after violent CCTV images are handed to a Sunday

:01:01. > :01:04.newspaper. Tributes are paid to the yotng man

:01:05. > :01:07.from Bristol who died after drinking a tribal potion in the Cololbian

:01:08. > :01:21.jungle And Bath rugby celebrate after making it to their first

:01:22. > :01:32.European final in six years. Good evening.

:01:33. > :01:35.A Swindon Town football plaxer is at the centre of a police investigation

:01:36. > :01:38.after being caught on camer` allegedly assaulting a woman. Nile

:01:39. > :01:41.Ranger was captured on security cameras as he tried to kick open a

:01:42. > :01:46.door into his apartment block. It was then he turned on a wom`n next

:01:47. > :01:49.to him and hit her three tiles. We must warn you that the foot`ge in

:01:50. > :01:51.Scott Ellis's report shows the assault.

:01:52. > :01:54.Six foot, two inches tall striker Nile Ranger signed up with Swindon

:01:55. > :01:57.last year. The former premidrship player moved into a penthouse flat

:01:58. > :02:04.in this apartment block in the centre of Swindon. In the e`rly

:02:05. > :02:17.hours of the 13th of April, he was captured on security cameras inside

:02:18. > :02:20.the building. He is in the car park trying to enter the apartment block

:02:21. > :02:24.and can be seen kicking the door. The footage also shows him hitting a

:02:25. > :02:27.woman twice with his right hand before a third blow. Police have

:02:28. > :02:30.confirmed tonight that Nile Ranger is being questioned about the

:02:31. > :02:34.alleged assault and ?2000 worth of criminal damage to a lift door, a

:02:35. > :02:48.wall, and a glass panel at the apartment block. Wiltshire Police

:02:49. > :02:53.officers are also appealing for the woman to get in contact. Thd

:02:54. > :03:02.football club says it has invited him to attend a disciplinarx

:03:03. > :03:15.hearing. It says it is also carrying out its own investigation and

:03:16. > :03:18.deplores any violence. Avon and Somerset Police made an

:03:19. > :03:22.extraordinary announcement today ` it is closing 27 police stations.

:03:23. > :03:25.The Chief Constable says he has to because of budget cuts. The changes

:03:26. > :03:28.will affect communities right across the area, from Avonmouth to

:03:29. > :03:31.Minehead. Out of the 27 stations being closed, four will dis`ppear

:03:32. > :03:35.altogether, while 23 will move to a smaller base nearby ` often sharing

:03:36. > :03:39.a building with council services. Another 17 will continue as they

:03:40. > :03:42.are. The other big change involves the opening of three big Police

:03:43. > :03:47.Centres, at Bridgwater, Keynsham, and Patchway. Clinton Rogers reports

:03:48. > :03:52.from West Somerset on what the plans mean.

:03:53. > :03:59.150 years of history will come to an end when they close Williton Police

:04:00. > :04:07.Station in West Somerset. Pdople need security at it is alwaxs nice

:04:08. > :04:14.to have it nearby. If it gods the crime level will go up again. It is

:04:15. > :04:19.not just a baroque unities that will be affected. This document shows

:04:20. > :04:22.that almost all parts of thd force will be affected as the polhce tried

:04:23. > :04:26.to reduce the number of buildings they have by a tyrant. Citids and

:04:27. > :04:28.larger towns do not escape the changes. Bristol, Brislington, and

:04:29. > :04:31.Bishopsworth will lose their stations. Weston Police Station will

:04:32. > :04:37.close, so too Shepton Mallet. Both will see police officers opdrating

:04:38. > :04:40.out of council buildings. All of this comes on a day when Avon and

:04:41. > :04:44.Somerset were unveiling the 21st century face of policing ` showing

:04:45. > :04:50.off this ?20 million police centre in Bridgwater. When it is fhnished

:04:51. > :04:59.in the summer, 600 people whll work from here. Well it is newer, but is

:05:00. > :05:06.it better for the public? Yds. We are using technology and sole of our

:05:07. > :05:12.buildings are really decrepht. Some are listed and are so old`f`shioned

:05:13. > :05:19.that we need to move. They `re mere people want them. That is not true.

:05:20. > :05:22.The public are not visiting some of the buildings we have. Thred new

:05:23. > :05:26.centres like this are being built ` the others are at Keynsham `nd

:05:27. > :05:29.Patchway. Key to them all is the new custody suites where anyone arrested

:05:30. > :05:34.will be taken day and night. Nine smaller custody suites dottdd around

:05:35. > :05:37.the area will close. This criminal lawyer says it will lead to police

:05:38. > :05:45.officers becoming expensive taxi drivers. There is a significant risk

:05:46. > :05:50.that police officers, who are rightly paid considerable alount of

:05:51. > :05:57.money, are going to be used as expensive taxi drivers. Labour MP

:05:58. > :06:05.has already called for a rethink on station closures. We want to put

:06:06. > :06:11.money into front`line assets. We have to work together. The police

:06:12. > :06:19.say that getting more bobbids on the police `` bobbies on the be`t will

:06:20. > :06:22.be the end result. Tributes have been paid following

:06:23. > :06:26.the tragic death of a teenager from Bristol, who died in the jungle in

:06:27. > :06:29.Columbia. Henry Miller's body was found abandoned by the side of the

:06:30. > :06:32.road. He had been taking a hallucinogenic drug during ` tribal

:06:33. > :06:38.ritual. Fiona Lamdin has thd latest. These are some of the last pictures

:06:39. > :06:41.of Henry Miller, broadcast on Colombian television. Here hs that a

:06:42. > :06:48.tribal ceremony in the rainforest, about to take a hallucinogenic drug

:06:49. > :06:54.that will cost him his life. I am from England and my name is Henry,

:06:55. > :06:58.he tells the camera. But hotrs later his body was found by the shde of

:06:59. > :07:04.the road will stop it was the second time he had taken the drink in two

:07:05. > :07:11.days. The first time he felt nothing, but the second timd he

:07:12. > :07:18.became seriously ill. So ill that to local men took him to hospital ``

:07:19. > :07:24.two local men. The men panicked and left him by the side of the road. So

:07:25. > :07:30.far these men have been questioned but not arrested. This is where

:07:31. > :07:39.Henry spent the last seven xears of his education. Henry was a really

:07:40. > :07:46.nice guy. Whenever he saw md outside of school he came and chilldd out.

:07:47. > :08:00.He wasn't very good at skathng, but he tried to play with us. Hd was a

:08:01. > :08:07.sensitive and lovely young lan. The drug is very common in Latin

:08:08. > :08:12.America, but it is very strong. This drug has been used in Latin America

:08:13. > :08:17.for millennia and there are even churches built around it. The drink

:08:18. > :08:24.is not toxic and if it is used appropriately any cultural

:08:25. > :08:29.setting... But I am not surd that the way it is being used currently

:08:30. > :08:36.is the way that it used to be used. There clearly was not care for the

:08:37. > :08:39.poor boy. Henry's family, who live in Bristol, have described him as

:08:40. > :08:43.polite and popular with a great sense of humour. He was due to start

:08:44. > :08:47.university in five month's time Fiona Lamin, BBC Points West,

:08:48. > :08:51.Bristol. It is the start of the week and we

:08:52. > :08:55.are glad you can join us. I`n will be up in the garden to give us a

:08:56. > :08:58.full forecast later and also laziness at Cheltenham Town ` the

:08:59. > :09:07.goalie is angry about players admitting they are not pullhng their

:09:08. > :09:10.weight. The inquest has started into the

:09:11. > :09:17.death of a sailor who fell hnto Royal Portbury Dock in Bristol.

:09:18. > :09:21.Gerardo Tonogbanua died in 2011 He was taking part in a safety drill

:09:22. > :09:24.involving a ship's rescue boat. A winch holding the boat faildd and it

:09:25. > :09:32.fell 29 metres from the top deck into the water below. The inquest

:09:33. > :09:35.will last all week. The funeral has been held of a

:09:36. > :09:38.teenager from Somerset who died while out on a bike ride.

:09:39. > :09:42.19`year`old Charlie Tugwell, from Peasedown St John was a student at

:09:43. > :09:48.the City of Bath College. Hhs body was found next to his bike on an

:09:49. > :09:52.isolated track two weeks ago. The row over where the new Bishop of

:09:53. > :09:56.Bath and Wells should live took a new turn today, as a special team

:09:57. > :10:00.arrived in Wells to examine the matter for themselves. The

:10:01. > :10:03.archbishops' council is there to decide whether the new bishop should

:10:04. > :10:06.follow tradition and continte to live in the Bishop's Palace, or

:10:07. > :10:12.whether he should be moved to a house in a nearby village. Well our

:10:13. > :10:16.reporter Laura Jones has spdnt the day in Wells and is here now. Laura,

:10:17. > :10:18.just remind us of a few mord details.

:10:19. > :10:22.Well, this has all been rumbling on for months now. It is a bit

:10:23. > :10:25.complicated and it has provoked a lot of reaction from people very

:10:26. > :10:28.strongly opposed to the suggestion that the bishop should live anywhere

:10:29. > :10:31.other than the Bishop's pal`ce. But today, a decision is a step closer,

:10:32. > :10:34.after a group called the archbishop's council arrived in

:10:35. > :10:37.Wells to make their minds up. They are directly representing the

:10:38. > :10:40.archbishops of Canterbury and York and their decision will be final. I

:10:41. > :10:43.understand that they have today been taken to visit the rectory hn

:10:44. > :10:47.Croscome, where it is proposed that the new Bishop will live, and have

:10:48. > :10:50.also taken a closer look at the living quarters at the palace in

:10:51. > :10:53.Wells. They have also heard evidence in a court`case type scenarho, from

:10:54. > :10:57.the various concerned partids. Now I've spent the day in Wells, and

:10:58. > :11:00.whilst at the palace spotted both the former bishop, the Right

:11:01. > :11:03.Reverend Peter Price, and the incoming bishop, the Right Reverend

:11:04. > :11:06.Peter Hancock, who I assume were both there to take part in

:11:07. > :11:10.proceedings and maybe give dvidence. Whilst there, I also spoke to the

:11:11. > :11:13.local MP Tessa Munt. I think it is a ludicrous decision that comds out of

:11:14. > :11:21.the 1940s where we have people making decisions about any

:11:22. > :11:27.consultation `` with out anx consultation.

:11:28. > :11:31.What reasons did the church commissioners ` who are suggesting

:11:32. > :11:35.the bishop should move ` give? Well, the commissioners havd always

:11:36. > :11:38.said that this is about privacy And that, as the palace in Wells becomes

:11:39. > :11:41.more and more of a tourist attraction, it is harder for the

:11:42. > :11:45.palace to provide somewhere suitable for the bishop to live. Of course,

:11:46. > :11:48.there has been a lot of criticism about the money spent buying the

:11:49. > :11:52.rectory in Crosscombe ` with some saying that it is a completd waste,

:11:53. > :11:55.at a time when many other church buildings need work. But today, the

:11:56. > :11:58.Reverand Arun Aroro, from the Church Commissioners, said that wasn't the

:11:59. > :12:05.case. The money that has bedn spent is not that there is from pdople's

:12:06. > :12:09.donations on a Sunday. If they sold the house tomorrow, it would be an

:12:10. > :12:15.investment that they could lake money from. When will we get final

:12:16. > :12:19.decision? The council will meet again tomorrow

:12:20. > :12:23.and we are expecting a decision in the next week or so ` in tile for

:12:24. > :12:25.the new bishop to be enthroned in June.

:12:26. > :12:28.Millions of poll cards and pamphlets have begun landing on our doormats

:12:29. > :12:32.in the run`up to next month's elections. A minority of us will be

:12:33. > :12:35.choosing who sits on our cotncils, but all adults can vote for who

:12:36. > :12:38.represents the South West in the European Parliament. Some of the

:12:39. > :12:42.favourites in that contest `re at Bristol University for a debate this

:12:43. > :12:49.evening. Let us join our political editor, Paul Barltrop, who hs there:

:12:50. > :12:55.welcome to Bristol University. The debate started half an hour ago

:12:56. > :13:01.at the top of the stairs. Wd are making sure that we do not

:13:02. > :13:06.interrupted. There are membdrs of the European Parliament frol all the

:13:07. > :13:14.major political parties herd. There are also people from other parties,

:13:15. > :13:22.such as labour and the Greens, who missed out last time. There are a

:13:23. > :13:29.total of eight parties taking part in the election. We will eldct six

:13:30. > :13:40.members of the European Parliament using a proportional voting system.

:13:41. > :13:47.UKIP are hoping to come first. They have been popular recently, but how

:13:48. > :13:50.about younger people. Gener`lly the sentiment within the University I

:13:51. > :13:55.would say, is pro`Europe. Ghven that we do not have a UKIP society, that

:13:56. > :13:58.kind of sums that up. There are ways in which it could operate more

:13:59. > :14:01.efficiently and more effecthvely. But overall, I think the benefits

:14:02. > :14:05.outweigh the disadvantages. I think in the press we do get a lot of the

:14:06. > :14:12.negative sides of the Europdan Union and we do not always get thd

:14:13. > :14:15.benefits. They are all quitd positive about Europe, but that does

:14:16. > :14:27.not necessarily represent the population. The problem for people

:14:28. > :14:32.trying to get a pro`European vote, is that people may not bothdr to

:14:33. > :14:38.vote. Thank you.

:14:39. > :14:40.There was some relief this weekend for Bristol Rovers fans frol their

:14:41. > :14:45.relegation troubles, while the possibility of the drop for Yeovil

:14:46. > :14:52.became a reality. Sabet is here with the latest.

:14:53. > :14:55.That is all coming up, but first, have divisions opened up in the

:14:56. > :14:58.Cheltenham Town squad? Goalkeeper Scott Brown made his views known

:14:59. > :15:01.about two fellow players' commitment after Saturday's defeat at Rochdale.

:15:02. > :15:05.Now, the chairman of Cheltenham Town has said any of his players not

:15:06. > :15:08.giving their best do not deserve to be at the club. Here is our

:15:09. > :15:10.Gloucestershire reporter, Steve Knibbs.

:15:11. > :15:12.Rochdale's two goals left Cheltenham with their sixteenth defeat of the

:15:13. > :15:18.season and frustration for goalkeeper Scott Brown. With nothing

:15:19. > :15:21.to celebrate on his birthdax, he told the media afterwards that some

:15:22. > :15:28.of his team`mates have openly admitted that they are not pulling

:15:29. > :15:36.their weight. I asked a few of the lads if ever trying 100% and their

:15:37. > :15:40.answer was, no. If you cannot come in every day with a smile on your

:15:41. > :15:43.face then what are you doing playing professional football. The players

:15:44. > :15:46.Scott Brown were referring to have not been identified, but thd

:15:47. > :15:52.chairman of the club posted a video response today and did not lix his

:15:53. > :15:55.words. When you have well`p`id professional footballers saxing that

:15:56. > :16:03.they are not trying during the training session I think it is very

:16:04. > :16:10.sad and those two players nded to look at themselves. Me and the fans

:16:11. > :16:15.do not want players who are not giving 100%. Last year Cheltenham

:16:16. > :16:18.were in the play`off semi`fhnals, so, with the change of forttne this

:16:19. > :16:23.season, fans are angry that some players may not care. Fans `re

:16:24. > :16:29.spending good money to travdl around the country to support the team To

:16:30. > :16:40.find that players are not pttting the effort and is very

:16:41. > :16:43.disappointing. The team`matds involved d will now face thd first

:16:44. > :16:46.ever disciplinary hearing against players in the history of the club.

:16:47. > :16:50.As such, the chairman is taking advice from the PFA, but, as his

:16:51. > :16:54.interview made clear today, if what it is alleged the players s`id turns

:16:55. > :16:57.out to be true, their futurd here is very much in doubt. Steve Knibbs,

:16:58. > :16:59.BBC Points West, Cheltenham Town. And an update tonight that

:17:00. > :17:03.Cheltenham have confirmed their assistant manager, Neil How`rth is

:17:04. > :17:06.leaving the club at the end of this season, although their manager, Mark

:17:07. > :17:08.Yeates, has signed a new ond`year contract.

:17:09. > :17:11.Now, if you are a Bristol Rovers fan, this weekend will cert`inly be

:17:12. > :17:15.one to remember. Finally, it seems the side's fortunes may be on the

:17:16. > :17:18.up. On Saturday, the Rovers took a massive step towards securing their

:17:19. > :17:21.Football League status with a 2`1 win against Wycombe. Lee Brown and

:17:22. > :17:25.David Clarkson scored the goals Rovers are now three points above

:17:26. > :17:34.the League Two relegation zone. A point in the final game will

:17:35. > :17:39.guarantee their safety. It is just a under a year ago Yeovil

:17:40. > :17:42.was feeling the joys of being promoted to the Championship. But

:17:43. > :17:45.the bus tour, cheering fans, and trophy must all seem like a distant

:17:46. > :17:48.memory. Now, after a season of punching above their weight, the

:17:49. > :17:51.underdogs are returning to League One. Their fate in the Championship

:17:52. > :17:58.sealed on Friday with a 2`0 defeat away at Brighton. Come back up

:17:59. > :18:01.again. Have another go. We will still be there following thdm every

:18:02. > :18:05.week. We are punching far above our weight here. This is Yeovil in the

:18:06. > :18:09.championship, what do you expect? But we have had a good season. Six

:18:10. > :18:13.years ago, they were still hn the Conference. We have come up, and we

:18:14. > :18:22.can still turn around and come back, can't we lads? We can come back

:18:23. > :18:24.Well, the man credited with masterminding Yeovil's rise to

:18:25. > :18:29.Championship is their managdr, Gary Johnson. Thanks for coming hn. Now

:18:30. > :18:35.relegation is confirmed, wh`t do you make of this season? It has been

:18:36. > :18:41.enjoyable. Now one enjoys bding relegated, but it was an incredible

:18:42. > :18:47.feat to make it to the final. We were competitive. We had sole good

:18:48. > :18:54.results. But we also had sole defeats because of the level at

:18:55. > :18:57.which we were playing. You have been little old Yeovil in the

:18:58. > :19:03.Championship, will you now be big old Yeovil in League One? I don t

:19:04. > :19:09.think so. We need to be bigger and we need to look at making the club

:19:10. > :19:16.bigger and better, to make ht a more entertaining arena. We are trying to

:19:17. > :19:20.do that. But the version ond was where we were last year and we

:19:21. > :19:28.competed well. Hopefully thd club can compete well again. You had a

:19:29. > :19:35.board meeting today ` it is no secret that you want more

:19:36. > :19:40.investment. What was the result The Board of Directors have been very

:19:41. > :19:47.supportive. A manager is always going to Africa for a bigger budgets

:19:48. > :19:59.to be more competitive `` a manager is always going to as for a bigger

:20:00. > :20:04.budget. Are you going to be staying here next year? We do not know. We

:20:05. > :20:09.have to wait for the answers to the questions. I hope that the club

:20:10. > :20:15.still wants to move forward and get bigger and better. I would be happy

:20:16. > :20:23.to be the manager that takes them forward. Thank you.

:20:24. > :20:27.On to rugby, and Bath Rugby have the chance to win only their thhrd

:20:28. > :20:30.trophy in 16 years after be`ting the Wasps in the semifinal of the

:20:31. > :20:34.European Challenge Cup. Thex will now face Northampton in next month's

:20:35. > :20:35.final, six years after they last won the competition. Damian Derrick has

:20:36. > :20:39.more. Despite the wet weather, thd lure of

:20:40. > :20:46.seeing their side go in search of some silverware bought the Bath fans

:20:47. > :20:49.out in good numbers. Not thd day for expansive rugby ` rather thd

:20:50. > :20:58.forwards sticking the ball tp their jumper. And that is exactly what
