:00:12. > :00:17.Good evening. The media has obtained dramatic footage of the moment a
:00:18. > :00:21.suspect was shot with a taser gun inside a Wiltshire Police station.
:00:22. > :00:25.The officer who fired it was cleared of assault yesterday. The Chief
:00:26. > :00:28.Constable had tried to stop the video being released and today he
:00:29. > :00:33.has been defending that decision. Our home affairs correspondent,
:00:34. > :00:37.Steve Brodie, reports. Suspect Daniel Dove has been ordered
:00:38. > :00:40.to take off his clothes as part of a strip search, after being brought to
:00:41. > :00:44.Melksham Police Station. But when he reaches his underpants, he flips
:00:45. > :00:49.them at PC Lee Birch. The policeman fires the 50,000`volt stun gun into
:00:50. > :00:52.Mr Dove's chest. Wiltshire's Chief Constable told me why he doesn't
:00:53. > :00:58.think the public should see the film. I can accept that people might
:00:59. > :01:05.wonder why I objected. My issue was one of principle. My principle being
:01:06. > :01:10.that, in my view, I have to ensure fairness and I have a duty of care
:01:11. > :01:21.to my officer ` who has been found not guilty. My view was that to
:01:22. > :01:24.release the media could cause problems for my officer over the
:01:25. > :01:27.next however many years he serves. An hour before, Daniel Dove had been
:01:28. > :01:30.arrested outside this Trowbridge night club, in December 2012, for
:01:31. > :01:33.being drunk and disorderly. He has then been brought here to the
:01:34. > :01:37.custody suite at Melksham Police Station. He is booked in standing
:01:38. > :01:40.handcuffed in front of PC Birch. The jury were told he was drunk and
:01:41. > :01:43.difficult to handle. After the tasering, he was charged with
:01:44. > :01:46.assault. But later he took out a private prosecution against PC
:01:47. > :01:52.Birch. Then the CPS dropped its allegations against him and
:01:53. > :01:56.prosecuted PC Birch instead. The Chief Constable agrees that justice
:01:57. > :02:03.should be seen to be done. I fully support open justice. There is an
:02:04. > :02:09.ongoing IPCC investigation. In my view, releasing the CCTV to the
:02:10. > :02:12.media could have been prejudicial. I am responsible for making sure that
:02:13. > :02:18.investigations are fair and in my view releasing the footage might
:02:19. > :02:22.have prejudiced the investigation. The force have reviewed their policy
:02:23. > :02:26.towards tasers. Meanwhile, PC Birch has returned to his job. Steve
:02:27. > :02:33.Brodie, BBC Points West, Wiltshire Police Headquarters, Devizes.
:02:34. > :02:36.More details have emerged of the extraordinary rescue operation to
:02:37. > :02:40.save a woman who fell nearly 30 feet from a bell tower inside Wells
:02:41. > :02:43.Cathedral. A doctor involved in the rescue says the tourist fell into a
:02:44. > :02:49.two`foot wide cavity between two walls, which made the rescue very
:02:50. > :02:54.challenging. Clinton Rogers reports. Come in and I will try to explain
:02:55. > :02:56.the situation. James Hickman is a specialist trauma doctor with
:02:57. > :03:04.mountaineering experience ` just the man for what turned out to be rescue
:03:05. > :03:08.at height in a very confined space. This is the main tower in the centre
:03:09. > :03:16.of the cathedral and the walls here are effectively double`skinned. The
:03:17. > :03:19.woman, taking part in what is called a Cathedral High`Parts Tour, somehow
:03:20. > :03:23.managed to fall into a narrow space between two bell tower walls. It is
:03:24. > :03:28.a bit like the cavity walls you have at home ` obviously a lot wider, but
:03:29. > :03:34.still only about 2`3 feet wide. There are openings into those
:03:35. > :03:38.cavities. This lady appears to have fallen into one of these cavities
:03:39. > :03:42.between the two parts of the wall ` from this level down into a cavity
:03:43. > :03:56.here. It did present challenges because there was not much room down
:03:57. > :04:00.there. The verger was helping her and I went down, supported by the
:04:01. > :04:16.Fire Service ` who had a rope rescue team, on a rope. She was awake and
:04:17. > :04:24.was able to talk to me. We were able to start the initial management of
:04:25. > :04:33.her injuries in the small space. There were many teams there. The
:04:34. > :04:36.fire rescue team, who are great in difficult environments like this,
:04:37. > :04:50.helped to get the lady onto a special stretcher to lift her out
:04:51. > :04:53.into the room in the tower. From there she was carried to the
:04:54. > :05:00.cathedral roof and winched onto a rescue helicopter. I was relieved
:05:01. > :05:06.that she was not more injured than you would expect from the height of
:05:07. > :05:09.the fall that she had. Tonight, the woman continues to recover at
:05:10. > :05:15.Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. Clinton Rogers, BBC Points West.
:05:16. > :05:19.A quarter of a million pounds' worth of fines has been written off
:05:20. > :05:22.following a public outcry over a badly signposted bus lane in Bath.
:05:23. > :05:25.Council leaders are now reviewing the scheme on Dorchester Road and
:05:26. > :05:32.have agreed to suspend it until better signage is in place. I have
:05:33. > :05:35.just said that we are very sorry. Therefore, I am embarrassed that we
:05:36. > :05:38.have upset people and I'm embarrassed that the experiment has
:05:39. > :05:42.not been as good as it could have been. That was a simple mistake. We
:05:43. > :05:45.did not get our signage right for this complicated junction. The
:05:46. > :05:51.council will decide the future of the bus gate on Friday, once it has
:05:52. > :05:53.analysed data from the experiment. A stained glass window has been
:05:54. > :05:57.unveiled at Gloucester Cathedral this evening. It commemorates the
:05:58. > :06:00.life of Ivor Gurney, the Gloucester poet and composer who was born in
:06:01. > :06:04.1890. Ivor Gurney's poetry was inspired by the horrors he witnessed
:06:05. > :06:09.in the First World War and his love of Gloucestershire.
:06:10. > :06:13.Bristol snooker player Judd Trump needs just two more frames to make
:06:14. > :06:18.it in to the semi`finals of the World Championships. He leads 11`10
:06:19. > :06:21.against Neil Robertson, who won four of the first five frames this
:06:22. > :06:36.afternoon. The winner will take on Mark Selby at the Crucible tomorrow.
:06:37. > :06:40.Neil Robinson has just equalised. Newsnight is starting over on BBC
:06:41. > :06:47.Two. First let us take a look at the weather with Ian.
:06:48. > :06:53.Tomorrow there will be heavier showers and some thunderstorms. The
:06:54. > :07:00.Met Office has issued a yellow warning. Particularly in Wiltshire
:07:01. > :07:08.and Gloucestershire there could be heavy rain. There is also a threat
:07:09. > :07:18.of flooding. Temperatures, 8`10 Celsius. Many areas will start dry,
:07:19. > :07:26.but then as they get into the afternoon we will find heavier rain
:07:27. > :07:31.in the North. It will last for quite a while. Tomorrow the temperatures,
:07:32. > :07:35.as well. The outlook, it shows you it will get cooler as we had through
:07:36. > :07:40.the weekend but brighter, although gardeners beware, night-time frosts.
:07:41. > :07:46.It was a day of contrasts across the UK today, rain coming in from the
:07:47. > :07:50.West but in the south-east, like winds and sunshine, up to 20
:07:51. > :07:54.degrees. Contrast that with six degrees in the East of Scotland. In
:07:55. > :07:58.between we've seen some thunderstorms and more general
:07:59. > :08:03.showers coming in to the western side of the UK. Northern Ireland,
:08:04. > :08:07.Wales and the south-west. The best chance of staying dry is across
:08:08. > :08:10.Lincolnshire and East Anglia. A lot of cloud around generally
:08:11. > :08:12.overnight, some patches of mist and maybe a few
