:00:11. > :00:15.Good evening. A member of staff at one of Bristol's most multi`cultural

:00:16. > :00:18.schools has been awarded ?14,00 after suffering racial

:00:19. > :00:21.discrimination and harassment. The City Academy has apologised to David

:00:22. > :00:30.McLeod and told the BBC there are now more opportunities for staff to

:00:31. > :00:35.progress. Dickon Hooper reports David McLeod's legal battle is

:00:36. > :00:38.finally over. He suffered r`cial discrimination and harassment at the

:00:39. > :00:45.City Academy and has just bden awarded ?14,000. I had a victory. It

:00:46. > :00:49.has never been about the cash. It was about the victory and about

:00:50. > :00:53.letting them know that what they were doing was wrong. The academy

:00:54. > :00:56.was the first in the South West ` a flagship. Seven out of ten pupils

:00:57. > :01:02.here are from black or ethnhc minorities. And David's casd has put

:01:03. > :01:09.the school under the spotlight. This is a landmark judgement in dducation

:01:10. > :01:13.in Bristol. At this public leeting, David explained he was a gr`duate

:01:14. > :01:19.and a qualified manager, who had helped black and ethnic students

:01:20. > :01:23.boost their grades. I knew that something was wrong and we had to

:01:24. > :01:26.set something in place. He wasn t given extra responsibility, or

:01:27. > :01:33.opportunity, when it came up and an employment tribunal agreed this was

:01:34. > :01:38.because he was black. I won my case because I am me. But if you look at

:01:39. > :01:46.the academy across the road, what about the 14`year`old Afric`n boy,

:01:47. > :01:53.who is six foot? How will they see him? The Academy said there would

:01:54. > :01:55.more opportunities for promotion coming up and apologised. Wd are

:01:56. > :01:58.deeply sorry and we are gentinely extending our sense of sorrow to

:01:59. > :02:05.those people involved, parthcularly David. We have learnt from our

:02:06. > :02:08.mistakes and we are moving forward now in terms of setting up `n

:02:09. > :02:12.equalities working group. Their focus, and David's, is now doing the

:02:13. > :02:16.best for the children at thd City Academy. Dickon Hooper, BBC Points

:02:17. > :02:22.West. Stephen Williams is the loc`l MP in

:02:23. > :02:26.the area. Race campaigners have heralded this decision as a landmark

:02:27. > :02:34.judgement. Do we need to be concerned about race relations in

:02:35. > :02:44.Bristol? Clearly the City Academy has a problem. I am very shocked by

:02:45. > :02:50.this. The City Academy is one of the schools in my constituency. It has a

:02:51. > :02:59.full concentration of non`white pupils. Every child wants to look up

:03:00. > :03:04.to a role model. I want to see more black Headteachers and senior

:03:05. > :03:10.managers in schools. The nulber of academies is growing in Bristol

:03:11. > :03:16.They don't fall under counchl control, so are you satisfidd with

:03:17. > :03:27.the way they are being monitored? I do not think that the model is the

:03:28. > :03:31.problem. I certainly will bd meeting with the school as soon as possible

:03:32. > :03:38.to discuss the lessons that they have learnt from this and what we

:03:39. > :03:43.can all do to die `` to encourage a diverse teaching workforce. A child

:03:44. > :03:50.who is there to learn can look up to their teachers and think th`t they

:03:51. > :04:01.could one day the head of Department. We do not want them to

:04:02. > :04:04.be held back. Swindon Town and Nile Ranger have

:04:05. > :04:06.mutually agreed to terminatd the player's contract. The decision

:04:07. > :04:09.follows a disciplinary hearhng yesterday. Earlier this week, the

:04:10. > :04:12.Swindon striker was released on bail after he pleaded not guilty to

:04:13. > :04:15.criminal damage at Swindon Magistrates.

:04:16. > :04:18.The leaders of two of the country's main political parties were on the

:04:19. > :04:21.campaign trail in the West today. Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg is

:04:22. > :04:25.hoping to minimise any Liberal Democrat losses. And this afternoon,

:04:26. > :04:30.Labour's Ed Miliband was in Bristol confidently predicting gains in the

:04:31. > :04:35.local and European elections. Our political editor, Paul Barltrop

:04:36. > :04:38.reports. Two leaders, two contrasting styles.

:04:39. > :04:42.Ed Miliband processed down Bristol's Gloucester Road ` very clearly

:04:43. > :04:45.Labour. No party colours for Nick Clegg, who had a hard hat for

:04:46. > :04:50.protection while visiting a regeneration project in Bath. He may

:04:51. > :04:54.need it. The Lib Dems are braced for another electoral battering.

:04:55. > :04:58.You must be really worried that you are going to suffer an awful loss on

:04:59. > :05:00.the 22nd of May? I understand that people want to give mainstrdam

:05:01. > :05:04.politicians, and those in government, a bit of a kickhng at

:05:05. > :05:08.the moment. But at the end of the day what is at stake is not the fate

:05:09. > :05:12.of any individual politician, but the fate of jobs in our country I

:05:13. > :05:15.am not willing to see millions of jobs, which are linked to otr

:05:16. > :05:18.position within the European Union, put at stake because of the

:05:19. > :05:22.dangerous fantasies of people like Nigel Farage. Labour also worry

:05:23. > :05:26.about UKIP, but are aiming for gains in places like Bristol. These

:05:27. > :05:30.elections are an opportunitx for people to express their view about

:05:31. > :05:34.the direction of the countrx. That is his way of saying he hopds voters

:05:35. > :05:38.do treat it as a referendum on the government. But while he is clearly

:05:39. > :05:42.keen to give people what thdy want, that does not include a refdrendum

:05:43. > :05:46.on staying in Europe. The priorities for a Labour government, led by me,

:05:47. > :05:49.are to tackle the cost of lhving crisis and improve the NHS, because

:05:50. > :05:52.I think they are the biggest priorities for people ` not whether

:05:53. > :05:56.we should exit the European Union. Before he left, he popped in to buy

:05:57. > :06:00.some flowers for his wife. He is confident it will be a good year for

:06:01. > :06:07.Labour's red roses. Paul Barltrop, BBC Points West.

:06:08. > :06:11.Bath Rugby drew 19`19 against Northampton Saints at the Rdc this

:06:12. > :06:14.evening. George Ford scored Bath's only try of the game. Depending on

:06:15. > :06:18.other results this weekend, Bath might have to beat Harlequins next

:06:19. > :06:24.Saturday to guarantee a place in the end of season play`offs.

:06:25. > :06:28.And we will be bringing you all the other sports results on our

:06:29. > :06:32.programmes across the weekend. The bank holiday is, of course, just

:06:33. > :06:33.around the corner, so I'll hand you on to Ian who can

:06:34. > :06:42.Hello, very good evening to you A dry and settled weekend ahe`d,

:06:43. > :06:47.including, we hope, Bank Holiday Monday. That is the day with a bit

:06:48. > :06:50.of uncertainty around. The key uncertainty throughout will be the

:06:51. > :06:54.amount of cloud, but certainly a good deal of dry weather about. By

:06:55. > :06:57.Monday it will be breezy, btt it could be the warmest of the three

:06:58. > :07:01.days. It will be a chilly nhght particularly in the east. You could

:07:02. > :07:04.see some ground frost there ` so gardeners beware. A chilly start

:07:05. > :07:08.tomorrow, but the further e`st you are the more sunshine you whll see.

:07:09. > :07:11.There will be more cloud in the west and more cloud filling in the gaps

:07:12. > :07:13.throughout the afternoon. Btt nonetheless, remaining pleasant with

:07:14. > :07:16.light winds, dry conditions, and temperatures in the mid`teens `

:07:17. > :07:20.13`15 Celsius should be typhcal There will be more cloud around for

:07:21. > :07:23.all of us on Sunday. Still some brighter spells, however. A similar

:07:24. > :07:26.story for Monday, getting more breezy but the temperatures will get

:07:27. > :07:32.up to 16 Celsius. Here is the National forecast.

:07:33. > :07:39.the rest of the weekend. Now look at the Outlook with Nick Miller.

:07:40. > :07:43.Neuer-macro don't worry, this is not the repeat. It is live. This is the

:07:44. > :07:48.forecast you are more likely to see in January than May, but this is a

:07:49. > :07:51.cold night for the time of year We have got some cloud coming into the

:07:52. > :07:56.West, stopping the temperature going down too far. It may produce light

:07:57. > :08:00.rain later in the night, maybe a rogue shower from patchy cloud in

:08:01. > :08:05.East Anglia. For most, dry, clear, temperatures are on the way down and

:08:06. > :08:10.will end up lower than this in the coldest rural spots by morning. -4

:08:11. > :08:15.in rural Scotland in the coldest moral spots in southern England so

:08:16. > :08:19.gardeners take note, frost for some of us are begins. What about the

:08:20. > :08:25.rest of the weekend? High pressure is here as it begins. You may think,

:08:26. > :08:28.great, settled weather, it does protect the south and east of the UK

:08:29. > :08:33.but Atlantique weather fronts coming to the north and west, giving some

:08:34. > :08:37.rain at times. First, for tomorrow, it is a fine start. Chilly, a lot of

:08:38. > :08:38.dry weather
