:00:00. > :00:13.Good evening. Gloucestershire Police That's all from us.

:00:14. > :00:15.Good evening. Gloucestershire Police have revealed tonight that some

:00:16. > :00:18.potential prosecutions during the badger cull were dropped, bdcause

:00:19. > :00:22.witnesses withdrew evidence before they came to court. The revdlations

:00:23. > :00:26.came during an online debatd to answer criticisms from the public. A

:00:27. > :00:29.session hosted by the countx's Police and Crime Commissiondr,

:00:30. > :00:34.Martin Surl. Here's Our Gloucestershire Reporter Stdve

:00:35. > :00:38.Knibbs. With the pilot cull being c`rried

:00:39. > :00:41.out in secret, the police reluctantly became the publhc face

:00:42. > :00:45.of the cull. With that came what seemed like a torrent of crhticism.

:00:46. > :00:52.Tonight there was acknowledgement of those challenges. It's unprdcedented

:00:53. > :00:56.in policing that we've had to police protest at night with peopld with

:00:57. > :01:00.firearms. That's never been done before previously in British

:01:01. > :01:03.policing. What angered the Police and Crime Commissioner during the

:01:04. > :01:07.debate was that out of the 39 arrests made during the cull there

:01:08. > :01:12.have been no prosecutions so far. The detective in charge revdaled it

:01:13. > :01:15.was because many case weres dropped because contractors working for the

:01:16. > :01:18.culling company withdrew thdir statements to avoid appearing in

:01:19. > :01:23.court. There might be a levdl of fear and intimidation. Therd are

:01:24. > :01:27.special measures that can bd put in place, if someone is that scared,

:01:28. > :01:31.where they can give evidencd behind a screen on a videolink. Th`t was

:01:32. > :01:36.explained to the contractors. They still didn't wish to make or still

:01:37. > :01:38.wanted to withdraw their thdir statements. The police's

:01:39. > :01:41.independence on the agenda `nd whether they work too closely with

:01:42. > :01:50.the company running the cull, an accusation they denied. Thex were

:01:51. > :01:55.not any NFU resources or resources in any way associated with our

:01:56. > :01:59.control room. There were stop and searches. Some locals claim to have

:02:00. > :02:03.been stopped several times on the same night. If someone has been

:02:04. > :02:07.stopped and spoken to and engaged with in one location, if thdy moved

:02:08. > :02:11.to another part of that samd area that we were policing, come across

:02:12. > :02:14.different officers who are not aware that they've been stopped and they

:02:15. > :02:18.have reasonable grounds to `ctually undertake a search, then it's quite

:02:19. > :02:22.possible that people could dnd up being searched more than once in a

:02:23. > :02:25.night. The Chief Constable `lso revealed that her force facdd

:02:26. > :02:29.pressure from all sides, from Government, through DEFRA, through

:02:30. > :02:32.the culling companies in thd anti`cull protesters to become more

:02:33. > :02:37.involved in the cull. But she wanted to ensure that the police rdmained

:02:38. > :02:38.operationally independent. There was also an acknowledgement that next

:02:39. > :02:42.time the police will with communities throughout the

:02:43. > :02:49.county that were the cull.

:02:50. > :02:52.An inquest's been hearing how a soldier from Wiltshire died in

:02:53. > :02:55.Afghanistan when a tent he was sleeping in caught fire. 23`year`old

:02:56. > :02:57.Dean Hutchinson was on oper`tions with a logistics unit from

:02:58. > :03:04.Hullavington when he died alongside another colleague in 2011 in Camp

:03:05. > :03:09.Bastion. The inquest in Salhsbury is expected to last two weeks. Around

:03:10. > :03:12.?20 million of spending on flood prevention work in Somerset has been

:03:13. > :03:16.approved.The county council says much of the money will be spent

:03:17. > :03:19.raising the A372 to save it from flooding again and improving one

:03:20. > :03:28.road into the village of Muchelney to prevent the community from being

:03:29. > :03:33.cut off. These are steps further, yes, committing to spend thd money.

:03:34. > :03:38.Our priorities are around gdtting the folk here, with the road they'll

:03:39. > :03:44.be able to use next winter, I say next winter, so it's an ambhtious

:03:45. > :03:46.time scale. A push is on to get one of Bristol's newest immigrant

:03:47. > :03:49.communities involved in the coming elections. The city is home to

:03:50. > :03:53.nearly t10,000 Somalis, but many don't vote. That could now be

:03:54. > :03:56.changing, and the political parties have noticed. Our political editor

:03:57. > :04:03.Paul Barltrop has been to mdet the man driving that change.

:04:04. > :04:07.Street politics on the Stapleton Road. Mohammed is a man on `

:04:08. > :04:12.mission, to get his community doing democracy. He has no political

:04:13. > :04:19.allegiance but having grown up under a military regime in Somali`, he Val

:04:20. > :04:22.use the freedom to choose. People thought that votes didn't m`ke a

:04:23. > :04:26.difference. That's partly to do with back home. People used to think

:04:27. > :04:30.whoever you vote, you know they will come back again. The obstacles are

:04:31. > :04:34.apathy and language. But he's having an impact. He reckons a thotsand

:04:35. > :04:38.more people are now on the dlectoral register. It's the first tile that

:04:39. > :04:43.I'm going to vote. The year before I didn't bother. Make your vohce being

:04:44. > :04:46.heard. That's very important. In last year's local election less than

:04:47. > :04:50.a quarter of those registerdd to vote actually did so. In thhs ward,

:04:51. > :04:55.Lawrence hill. The push to get more people registering and voting has

:04:56. > :04:58.caught the eye of politicians. Visiting today, Green Party

:04:59. > :05:01.candidates for the European election. They've sought out

:05:02. > :05:05.Mohammed. He's staying politically neutral, but all hope that hmmigrant

:05:06. > :05:08.communities aren't deterred from voting. We think it's important to

:05:09. > :05:13.show solidarity with communhties that actually have been takhng quite

:05:14. > :05:16.a battering in recent months. There's a divisive element to the

:05:17. > :05:20.campaigning that's been going on. That's really unhelpful and damaging

:05:21. > :05:24.to communities like this ond. Mohammed takes them onto thd

:05:25. > :05:28.streets, keen to show how things are changing. I was always passhonate

:05:29. > :05:32.about politics and social change. I wanted to see something different

:05:33. > :05:35.happen within my community. I was so happy to see from isolation to

:05:36. > :05:41.active participation and th`t is something I'm proud of and ly team.

:05:42. > :05:47.His work will go on. By next year's general election he hopes to have

:05:48. > :05:49.3,000 voters signed up. After a disappointing season in the

:05:50. > :05:53.Premiership Gloucester have sacked their Director of Rugby. Nigel

:05:54. > :06:02.Davies goes after the side finished a disappointing ninth in thd league.

:06:03. > :06:05.On Saturday, they sank to their 14th Premiership defeat at releg`ted

:06:06. > :06:07.Worcester. The club say thex want a high`calibre replacement. Sprinters

:06:08. > :06:10.Jason Gardener and Ben Rushgrove have become the first athletes to be

:06:11. > :06:14.entered into the University of Bath's Hall of Fame for sport. The

:06:15. > :06:17.pair have won multiple honotrs at Olympic and Paralympic level. They

:06:18. > :06:23.were inducted at a special ceremony at the University sports tr`ining

:06:24. > :06:26.village today. And you can see an extended version of that pidce on

:06:27. > :06:30.our Facebook page. We're back with you in bearfast tomorrow from 6am.

:06:31. > :06:33.But for, now I'll leave you with Ian who has the latest forecast.

:06:34. > :06:40.Temperatures on the rise thhs week. Meanwhile showers will be on the

:06:41. > :06:44.wasn't, for a few days. Tomorrow we have further `` wane for a few days.

:06:45. > :06:47.Tomorrow we have winds to contend with and it feels warmer th`n of

:06:48. > :06:50.late. Temperatures tonight get down to seven or eight Celsius. Still

:06:51. > :06:55.showers around in Gloucestershire. We continue with a few more

:06:56. > :06:59.overnight. Many areas are dry. Many areas start dry tomorrow. As the day

:07:00. > :07:03.wears on, particularly throtgh the afternoon, the showers will become

:07:04. > :07:06.confined to the east and north. Parts of Wiltshire and

:07:07. > :07:09.Gloucestershire. Further west, you will find less, possibly none

:07:10. > :07:12.whatsoever. There will be prolonged sunny spells in between all of

:07:13. > :07:17.those. The winds will be lighter. Those showers will fade awax during

:07:18. > :07:21.the evening, as pressure is rising. Temperatures safely between 14 to 16

:07:22. > :07:25.Celsius. I think a number of you 15 or 16 Celsius. It will feel

:07:26. > :07:28.pleasantly warm. As it will increasingly through the wedk.

:07:29. > :07:30.Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, temperatures climbing up closer to

:07:31. > :07:32.towards about 20 Celsius. Not a shower in sight at that stage, at

:07:33. > :07:33.least. Here's a look temperatures will pick up towards 21

:07:34. > :07:42.degrees. Good evening. Across the whole

:07:43. > :07:47.country today the showers have been losing intensity, but still a

:07:48. > :07:51.cluster across North Kent, stretching from Lincolnshire and

:07:52. > :07:54.also into western Scotland and we will keep a few showers as we go

:07:55. > :07:57.through the night which are moving their way into northern England

:07:58. > :08:01.Another potential areas developing through Wales and the South West but

:08:02. > :08:04.in between there will be dry weather, clearer skies and the

:08:05. > :08:09.northern Scotland the clear skies could lead to a touch of Frost the

:08:10. > :08:10.temperatures dipping away. A chilly
