:00:18. > :00:20.so she'd have an excuse for failing her exams is facing jail.
:00:21. > :00:22.Rhiannon Brooker from Frampton Cotterell near Bristol was
:00:23. > :00:30.found guilty on 12 counts of perverting the course of justice.
:00:31. > :00:32.Our Home Affairs Corresponddnt Steve Brodie reports.
:00:33. > :00:35.Railway worker Paul Fensome was arrested and held in custodx for 30
:00:36. > :00:38.days while the police investigated the lawyer's allegations.
:00:39. > :00:40.But officers discovered that at the time
:00:41. > :00:43.of the alleged he'd been working on the railways in Birmingh`m.
:00:44. > :00:50.He was eventually released with an apology.
:00:51. > :00:57.My heart goes out to any wolan who has been raped or assaulted, but my
:00:58. > :01:02.father told me never to hit all rape a woman, and that is what I have
:01:03. > :01:07.lived by. I mentioned that hn court. But it was hard work, and my
:01:08. > :01:09.personal feeling is that anx woman who has been genuinely raped should
:01:10. > :01:13.report it. The jury heard how law gradtate
:01:14. > :01:16.Rhiannon Brooker had gone to the police, claiming she'd been
:01:17. > :01:24.raped and assaulted 20 times. I have no feelings for her. After
:01:25. > :01:28.today, her name will never be mentioned to me again. My n`me has
:01:29. > :01:32.been cleared and my jury fotnd me not guilty of 20 counts unhtrt
:01:33. > :01:37.guilty of all of them. My n`me is clear `` and her guilty of `ll of
:01:38. > :01:39.them. I hope she gets a decdnt sentence.
:01:40. > :01:41.When being interviewed by detectives, Brooker, 30,
:01:42. > :01:43.gave a detailed statement admitting she'd been lying.
:01:44. > :01:47.She said, "I expected someone in the Crown Prosecution Service to read my
:01:48. > :01:51.confession to the police and realise it was a lie and drop the c`se?
:01:52. > :01:56.The message to genuine victhm of rape and sexual assault is simple,
:01:57. > :02:01.go to the police and tell them what happened. Do not be in fear of being
:02:02. > :02:04.prosecuted for lying, because unless you are lying, and we will find out
:02:05. > :02:08.if you are, you have nothing to fear. We will prosecute if ht is in
:02:09. > :02:10.the public interest and there is sufficient evidence to do so.
:02:11. > :02:13.The police say women must report any rape or assault.
:02:14. > :02:19.I would like to give the message to all victims of rape, abuse `nd
:02:20. > :02:24.domestic abuse that this case is an example of how we do take all
:02:25. > :02:25.allegations at face value. Absolutely we will investig`te and
:02:26. > :02:27.search for the truth. Brooker was found guilty
:02:28. > :02:30.of 12 counts of perverting the course of justice and whll be
:02:31. > :02:32.sentenced later in the month. Well, earlier, I spoke to
:02:33. > :02:35.Professor Phil Rumney, an expert in criminal justice from the University
:02:36. > :02:39.of the West of England, who's researching whether anonymity should
:02:40. > :02:43.be given to those accused of rape. I started by asking whether he
:02:44. > :02:55.thinks it will ever happen? We don't know whether or not people
:02:56. > :02:58.accused of rape actually suffer a unique social stigma compardd to
:02:59. > :03:06.people accused of other typds of crimes such as terrorism or murder.
:03:07. > :03:10.If, of course, people are accused of rape and have the unique sthgma
:03:11. > :03:14.that is an argument in favotr of anonymity, but we do not know if
:03:15. > :03:18.that is true. A lot of people would argue that stigma is attachdd, but
:03:19. > :03:22.victims of rape get anonymity, so why not those accused? That is
:03:23. > :03:28.because rape defendants are treated like any other defendant. Ddfendants
:03:29. > :03:33.in robbery cases, murder cases or terrorism cases, they don't receive
:03:34. > :03:36.anonymity either. You have spoken to many who have been accused of rape
:03:37. > :03:43.as part of your research. What did they say? One of them said that the
:03:44. > :03:47.accusation, he described hilself as being covered in a cloak. Hd was
:03:48. > :03:51.worried about going out. He was fearful of people finding ott about
:03:52. > :03:56.the accusation. If he was w`lking down the street, he didn't know who
:03:57. > :04:00.knew or didn't know. And it was also the case that he had fear, his
:04:01. > :04:06.family also had fear becausd we know that the stigma attached to a person
:04:07. > :04:09.accused also spreads to fridnds and family. Like you very much. `` thank
:04:10. > :04:16.you very much. A former mayor of Weston Super Mare

:04:41. > :04:46.the surface of Gloucestershhre and you'll find a piece

:04:59. > :05:10.in the centre of this city, To find traces of the Romans in
:05:11. > :05:14.Gloucester you have to find a level that the streets were at here, and
