:00:09. > :00:10.Welcome to BBC Points West, with Alex Lovell and David Garmston.

:00:11. > :00:14.The hairdresser who was stabbed to death in front

:00:15. > :00:18.Her boyfriend killed her after she broke off their relationship,

:00:19. > :00:32.People said her smile was everything about her.

:00:33. > :00:36.Today her killer admitted hhs guilt, and faces a life sentence.

:00:37. > :00:41.Long delays at Bristol Airport after a power cut ` thousands face

:00:42. > :00:47.At home with the new bishop ` he talks of his hopes

:00:48. > :01:02.I hope that when my time coles, my obituary will be able to sax, Bishop

:01:03. > :01:09.Peter loved the people of Somerset. And 70 years on from D`Day `

:01:10. > :01:19.we reveal how the plans A man has admitted murdering his

:01:20. > :01:23.ex`girlfriend as she worked in a hair salon in Gloucester. Asher

:01:24. > :01:29.Maslin could not come to terms with the end of their relationshhp. He

:01:30. > :01:34.stabbed 20`year`old Hollie Gazzard many times while horrified customers

:01:35. > :01:40.looked on. Today, Hollie's family said the world has lost a treasure.

:01:41. > :01:44.Behind me, the salon where Hollie Gazzard worked and where earlier

:01:45. > :01:49.this year she was attacked. Asher Maslin could not accept thehr

:01:50. > :01:54.relationship was over, so hd walked into the salon and stopped Hollie

:01:55. > :01:57.several times in front of staff and customers. Some members of the

:01:58. > :02:02.public even captured the attack on their mobile phones. The police said

:02:03. > :02:10.today it was a cowardly and spiteful attack. Hollie was a popular and

:02:11. > :02:14.much loved girl. It has affdcted the community. Our thoughts are with her

:02:15. > :02:18.family and friends who have really been through the mill with this and

:02:19. > :02:24.they have shown immense courage immense dignity and patients. The

:02:25. > :02:31.salon has now reopened. Its staff here at the weekend raised ?9,0 0

:02:32. > :02:35.for a memorial kissing seat for Hollie, and they say they are

:02:36. > :02:43.determined not to let what happened to Hollie beat them. She was lovely

:02:44. > :02:47.and a good hairdresser. We will have highs and lows. It will be

:02:48. > :02:51.difficult, but we are a teal and we have to work together. Asher Maslin

:02:52. > :03:00.will be sentenced in the coling weeks. The judge told him to expect

:03:01. > :03:03.a light sentence. Officers had contact with Hollie before she died

:03:04. > :03:08.and there is an investigation into that. People are now trying to do

:03:09. > :03:13.something positive in her n`me. I have been speaking to her f`ther.

:03:14. > :03:19.She was very small in stature but what she lacked in height, she made

:03:20. > :03:25.up for in personality. She lit up the room. Everyone said her smile

:03:26. > :03:29.was everything about her. And being a hairdresser, her hair was never

:03:30. > :03:36.the same in any two pictures. She was really fun. Since he's

:03:37. > :03:41.daughter's death, his daughter's personality has touched so lany

:03:42. > :03:45.people. It established us, the number of people who have come

:03:46. > :03:49.forward and said, we knew Hollie, we were in contact with her. She was

:03:50. > :03:54.such a fun loving girl. And that is people we didn't even know she knew.

:03:55. > :04:03.A lot of people also came forth who did not know her. Hollie's family

:04:04. > :04:07.are determined that she will live on not just for them but for others. A

:04:08. > :04:15.trust set up in her name has already raised ?40,000. It will pay for

:04:16. > :04:19.aspiring hairdressers to tr`in to follow Hollie's dream. Therd is a

:04:20. > :04:24.massive hole in our hearts, but we can focus on something positive and

:04:25. > :04:29.we wanted the trust to be something positive coming out of this whole

:04:30. > :04:32.tragedy. Hairdressing was hdr real passion. She had a style and

:04:33. > :04:37.creativity second to none around here and we want to make sure other

:04:38. > :04:42.people get the opportunity to do what she did. The money will also go

:04:43. > :04:50.to local charities that work to try to prevent what happened to Hollie.

:04:51. > :04:54.The first one will be domestic abuse and we will create a progralme to go

:04:55. > :04:57.to schools to talk to peopld is about domestic abuse, and sdcond, we

:04:58. > :05:03.have Increase the Peace, whhch is the project on anti`social behaviour

:05:04. > :05:08.in Gloucester and trying to move youngsters away from knife crime and

:05:09. > :05:15.gun crime. Those two things are really positive for us. Hollie's

:05:16. > :05:20.family all now wear rings inset with her ashes. But it is the fundraising

:05:21. > :05:25.that keeps them strong. These bears made from Hollie's clothes `re now

:05:26. > :05:28.destined to spread her personality around the globe. A lot of Hollie's

:05:29. > :05:33.friends have these. Hollie really wanted to travel around the world,

:05:34. > :05:39.so they are going to take them everywhere they go. On Facebook we

:05:40. > :05:44.are putting the places Hollhe has been and where she's going to go.

:05:45. > :05:51.Her family hope that now much will be done in Hollie's name to touch

:05:52. > :05:56.the people she loved. Sadly, Hollie's death was not be

:05:57. > :06:01.only fatal stabbing in Gloucester in the last year. Neil Bennett was also

:06:02. > :06:06.murdered, last July, in a row over a ?10 drug deal. His killer w`s

:06:07. > :06:11.sentenced to life today. Thd fatal conflict and the last moments of Mr

:06:12. > :06:15.Bennett's life were captured by CCTV, and the police have rdleased

:06:16. > :06:20.the images to the media. Thd pictures do not show any violence

:06:21. > :06:26.but the scenes are disturbing. You are about to see the final hour

:06:27. > :06:29.of Neil Bennett's life, chronicled in dramatic detail. Here he is in

:06:30. > :06:34.the leather jacket, trying to buy drugs from Christopher Horn on the

:06:35. > :06:39.far right, the man who would kill him shortly after. An argumdnt in

:06:40. > :06:44.stews, over debt of ?10. As the argument escalates, Christopher Horn

:06:45. > :06:49.opens his jacket, baring his chest. He goes back into the flat. What is

:06:50. > :06:55.he comes out, concealing solething in the waistband of his shorts, it

:06:56. > :07:03.is a knife which he brandishes at Bennett before, off`camera, stabs

:07:04. > :07:09.him with. A different camer` shows the injured Bennett staggerhng

:07:10. > :07:12.through the park. He is followed and start again, this time fatally.

:07:13. > :07:20.Passers`by unsuccessfully tried to save him. There were hundreds of

:07:21. > :07:24.hours of CCTV, critical for the conviction. Into eternity, ht has

:07:25. > :07:27.meant that we have been abld to provide a very strong case hn

:07:28. > :07:31.relation to Christopher Horn, which has led to his conviction. Neil

:07:32. > :07:40.Bennett's family did not want to comment after the conviction today.

:07:41. > :07:45.Three co`defendants were acpuitted of all charges. Tyler Johnson, here

:07:46. > :07:51.in the white shirt, and two others who helped as they left court. Lucy

:07:52. > :07:58.had given birth to their datghter while in custody. Christophdr Horn

:07:59. > :08:03.was passive in the dock as he was sentenced to 20 years in custody.

:08:04. > :08:07.The judge told him that there was premeditation in his actions and

:08:08. > :08:18.then it must have suffered prior to his death.

:08:19. > :08:22.Delroy Ellis is a youth worker in Gloucester and the founder of the

:08:23. > :08:27.charity Increase the Peace. I ask him just how big the problel of

:08:28. > :08:34.knife crime is in the city. There have been a few fatalities hn our

:08:35. > :08:38.city in the last year. It h`s startled the community a bit. People

:08:39. > :08:41.are realising now that we nded to reach out to our community `nd our

:08:42. > :08:46.young people and start putthng positive seeds in our young

:08:47. > :08:49.people's heads, but also about trying to do early intervention with

:08:50. > :08:53.young kids. It is worrying `nd upsetting, and I think we nded to

:08:54. > :09:00.address his problem. Why do you think young people are so rdady to

:09:01. > :09:05.carry knives and use them? H think it is a mixture of things, really.

:09:06. > :09:11.It is about identity. It is also about young people feeling like

:09:12. > :09:15.there self worth... When yot are involved in a gang, young pdople

:09:16. > :09:20.feel it gives them an identhty and ownership, and it gives thel power

:09:21. > :09:23.and strength in numbers. But we are seeing a rise of its young people

:09:24. > :09:31.gathering together in large groups of kids, people would say more than

:09:32. > :09:34.three is a kind, but I think there is an increase in young kids

:09:35. > :09:37.gathering, and there is a worry of young people carrying knives. Are

:09:38. > :09:43.these young people frightendd about the consequences if they get caught

:09:44. > :09:46.with a knife, or do they not care? I think the consequence comes after.

:09:47. > :09:49.When you look at some of thd isolated incidents not so mtch in

:09:50. > :09:54.the last two years but incidents isolated over the last four or five

:09:55. > :09:57.years, young kids have said, I shouldn't have done it, but it is

:09:58. > :10:08.only after Wendy consequencds happen, they are in court or... ``

:10:09. > :10:11.when the consequences happen. It is always afterwards that they say I

:10:12. > :10:19.wish I did not do that or gdt involved. Thank you.

:10:20. > :10:22.Thousands of passengers werd stranded at Bristol Airport this

:10:23. > :10:26.morning after a power failure. It was caused by a small fire `nd it

:10:27. > :10:31.meant that all flights had to be grounded. As you can imagind, it has

:10:32. > :10:42.had a knock`on effect throughout the day. Somerset correspondent reports.

:10:43. > :10:47.It is chaos. Just one man's view as the key is backed up. No power and

:10:48. > :10:51.no information screens. No escalators. As you can see `round

:10:52. > :10:56.you, it has been pandemoniul, really. We got here at about 5am,

:10:57. > :11:03.decided to come nice and early for the flight. What do we find? Chaos,

:11:04. > :11:07.of the problems, some 3000 of the problems, some 3000

:11:08. > :11:10.passengers were unable to board their flights. Around 1000 of them

:11:11. > :11:15.had to be held out here bec`use of the power problems. It was pretty

:11:16. > :11:19.cold here in the early hours of this morning and some of the mord

:11:20. > :11:27.elderly, vulnerable passengdrs had to be given blankets. Planes were

:11:28. > :11:29.delayed for hours, even aftdr the power was restored. There w`s

:11:30. > :11:36.nothing for it but to wait, or sleep. We got here for 5am for a

:11:37. > :11:40.flight for certain AM and now it is quarter past nine and we have not

:11:41. > :11:43.moved down the line at all, so we are a little bit tired now `nd

:11:44. > :11:51.disappointed with the lack of information. Airport staff were

:11:52. > :11:54.handing out water and extra chairs. And even the chief executivd came

:11:55. > :12:00.onto the shop floor to expl`in and apologise. Not least for thd fact

:12:01. > :12:07.that the back`up generator failed to kick in when the power went.

:12:08. > :12:11.Passengers are generally spdaking being understanding and staff are

:12:12. > :12:15.working as hard as they can to get people away on their holidaxs. It

:12:16. > :12:24.was a small fire in an electrical circuit that caused the problem Let

:12:25. > :12:29.me show you... In the airport, the trick now is to make sure this does

:12:30. > :12:37.not happen again. Lesson ond, find out why the back`up systems failed

:12:38. > :12:42.to do their job. In the last hour, I spoke to the

:12:43. > :12:46.Apple's Chief Executive and ask how long it would be before things were

:12:47. > :12:52.back to normal. It will takd a few hours yet. We are seeing a few knock

:12:53. > :12:55.on delays from this morning, but all the systems at the airport, all the

:12:56. > :12:59.power is back up and running, so with respect to the operation, we

:13:00. > :13:03.are all up and running now `nd we are just seeing and dealing with a

:13:04. > :13:07.few knock on delays. It will take a few hours or so but I expect that

:13:08. > :13:12.the operation tomorrow will be normal. Some of the customers in our

:13:13. > :13:16.report said there was chaos, pandemonium, a lack of information

:13:17. > :13:22.exchanged. Have you learned anything from today, do you think? Nobody

:13:23. > :13:26.likes being delayed, disruption I am pleased to say we have h`d no

:13:27. > :13:30.flight cancelled today. There have clearly been delays but it hs good

:13:31. > :13:34.news we have got everybody `way Suddenly our staff have been out in

:13:35. > :13:38.numbers and we have been trxing to keep passengers informed. Wd have

:13:39. > :13:42.been handing out water, food and chairs to make the most of the

:13:43. > :13:45.situation. Do you think it will have any impact on Bristol Airport,

:13:46. > :13:49.because obviously for custolers there is a lot of choice around

:13:50. > :13:52.here, Cardiff, Birmingham, Heathrow... What you say to

:13:53. > :13:58.passengers who might think twice about coming to Bristol. No, I do

:13:59. > :14:02.not think passengers should be unduly worried. These things happen

:14:03. > :14:06.from time to time. We suffered a three hour power failure. The

:14:07. > :14:09.airport do a fantastic job `nd the staff did a fantastic job gdtting

:14:10. > :14:14.the airport up and running `s quickly as possible, and st`ff and

:14:15. > :14:18.certainly passengers should have full confidence in the airport. We

:14:19. > :14:26.expect to be back to normal tomorrow. Thank you. If you're

:14:27. > :14:33.watching this in the departtre lounge, we do hope that your flight

:14:34. > :14:36.is called soon. But if you `re not jetting off and you're stayhng at

:14:37. > :14:41.home this weekend, to remain with us here on BBC One. There is lots

:14:42. > :14:46.coming up before 7:30pm and you will not want to miss the forecast. It is

:14:47. > :14:52.not looking quite like bomb in Barcelona, is it?

:14:53. > :14:58.No, but what we have coming is a Spanish plume. That means the threat

:14:59. > :14:59.of some heavy downpours and thunderstorms, but not everxwhere.

:15:00. > :15:04.More detail later. Gloucester City Football Cltb has

:15:05. > :15:06.submitted detailed plans to The club hasn't played therd

:15:07. > :15:11.since the pitch was destroydd The club say the Environment Agency

:15:12. > :15:14.is satisfied with The ground itself would havd

:15:15. > :15:19.a capacity of 4,000 Now, 1,000 people are heading

:15:20. > :15:32.to Wells in Somerset tomorrow to watch as the Right Reverend Peter

:15:33. > :15:35.Hancock is officially installed The service of welcome will

:15:36. > :15:39.formally mark the beginning We caught him today

:15:40. > :15:44.in a quiet moment at home, `s he Amanda Parr began by asking him

:15:45. > :16:00.whether the Bishop's Palace would At the minute, yes. In the future,

:16:01. > :16:08.none of the snow. The days of bishops living palaces is probably

:16:09. > :16:11.over `` non`us know. We do have the houses, they are part of our

:16:12. > :16:16.history, we love them. This one in particular is open to the ptblic.

:16:17. > :16:20.The gardens look absolutely wonderful. It is lovely that the

:16:21. > :16:22.Church can have a role in hdlping to share something beautiful whth not

:16:23. > :16:28.just the people of Somerset but people from all over who cole here.

:16:29. > :16:33.The church is facing a numbdr of challenges, not least the issue of

:16:34. > :16:37.homosexuality. After all thd reports and the commitments to dialogue

:16:38. > :16:45.about this subject, what ard your thoughts on any reform in the

:16:46. > :16:49.approach to homosexuality? The Church has always taken people

:16:50. > :16:53.seriously. Sometimes we havd not got it right. Sometimes we have made

:16:54. > :16:56.terrible mistakes. Sometimes the church has said and done wrong

:16:57. > :16:59.things, but the church has been concerned about people and that is

:17:00. > :17:04.at the heart of the Christi`n faith. With every issue, in every `ge, we

:17:05. > :17:09.have to make sure we're listening to God, what he is saying to us through

:17:10. > :17:14.history and the Bible, his word for us, but also listen to what people

:17:15. > :17:21.are saying. Another issue, women bishops. Do you think we will have

:17:22. > :17:27.the go`ahead for women bishops at the scene not in July? I re`lly

:17:28. > :17:31.cannot see it not going through I may have to come back in a few weeks

:17:32. > :17:37.and say I got it wrong. I cdrtainly hope not. I will be there, voting

:17:38. > :17:42.for women bishops. Do you think the long debate has done damage to the

:17:43. > :17:47.church? I think it has. I think for my children's generation, they

:17:48. > :17:51.cannot understand why the church has been looking backwards rathdr than

:17:52. > :17:55.forwards, as they would see it, and some people have been very badly

:17:56. > :17:59.hurt through the way the chtrch has handled this. We have to recognise

:18:00. > :18:04.that and say sorry and move forward. Tomorrow is a big day for you. A

:18:05. > :18:14.wonderful day. The weight of history is literally on your shoulddrs, with

:18:15. > :18:18.the comments you have to we`r. I will be looking back at hundreds of

:18:19. > :18:23.years of history, but I'm also looking forward. What is it that God

:18:24. > :18:28.is wanting us to do and be? What is God asking of me in the years to

:18:29. > :18:30.come? As I am banging on thd door, that is what I shall be thinking

:18:31. > :18:45.about. There is a longer chat on the

:18:46. > :18:50.Facebook page right now. We wish him well for tomorrow.

:18:51. > :18:52.Police in Wiltshire say they've improved

:18:53. > :18:56.their investigation methods, after it took six days to find thd body of

:18:57. > :19:01.Tom Edwards died after fallhng from a train on his way homd

:19:02. > :19:05.At the inquest today, the coroner said it was most likely

:19:06. > :19:15.an accident, but that Tom's drinking that night had played a part.

:19:16. > :19:21.32`year`old Tom disappeared after a Friday night out in Swindon last

:19:22. > :19:26.June. After five days of intense high profile searching, his body was

:19:27. > :19:30.found next to the rail way line past Chippenham. He had been tryhng to

:19:31. > :19:34.get a bus home and police h`d dropped him at the bus stop, but

:19:35. > :19:38.CCTV later showed him catchhng a train. The coroner recorded a

:19:39. > :19:43.verdict of accidental death. He said it was more likely than not that

:19:44. > :19:46.when Tom realised he had missed his stop, he climbed out of the train

:19:47. > :19:59.window and fell. The train `t that point could have been travelling at

:20:00. > :20:01.65 mph. The coroner also sahd he was satisfied that alcohol playdd a

:20:02. > :20:04.part. Tom's blood alcohol ldvel was more than twice that of the drink

:20:05. > :20:06.drive limit, and the coroner said it was bound to have affected his

:20:07. > :20:10.judgement. The cos the police had contact with Tom before he died the

:20:11. > :20:14.matter was referred to the Independent Police Complaints

:20:15. > :20:18.Commission. They allowed Wiltshire police to conduct their own review,

:20:19. > :20:21.which has resulted in changds to procedures, but they said the

:20:22. > :20:26.officers who dropped Tom at the bus stop did the right thing. It is

:20:27. > :20:29.based on this consensus at the time. If they had had significant

:20:30. > :20:33.concerns, they can actually take him into custody and give him the

:20:34. > :20:39.medical attention he needs. That was not the case at this point `nd they

:20:40. > :20:44.acted appropriately. Tom's family said today he was a devoted husband

:20:45. > :20:48.who left a lasting impression on all he met. They thanked everyone who

:20:49. > :20:50.helped in the search last ydar and said Tom would live on in their

:20:51. > :21:00.hearts and minds. One of the rising stars

:21:01. > :21:04.of the Government has been back Sajid Javid, the Secretary of State

:21:05. > :21:08.for Culture and Sport, He was on his first official visit

:21:09. > :21:12.here since being promoted in April. He wanted to learn

:21:13. > :21:15.about the club's plans for a new stadium, and revealed he grew

:21:16. > :21:26.up in the blue half of the city I used to live in eastern and I have

:21:27. > :21:33.to say I was a much more Rovers fan than a City fan. Does it trouble you

:21:34. > :21:35.that Rovers went down? Sometimes it acts as an incentive to do dven

:21:36. > :21:44.better. He regularly comes to

:21:45. > :21:46.visit family in Bristol. He was only elected to Parlhament

:21:47. > :21:49.four years ago, and is tipped by fellow

:21:50. > :21:53.Conservatives as one to watch. Veterans,

:25:11. > :25:19.I wonder if by the weekend H might have a few or view photographs of

:25:20. > :25:24.lightning to add to our collection. Most of the lightning, if it occurs

:25:25. > :25:25.tonight, is likely to be between the clouds rather than down to the

:25:26. > :25:34.ground. Tomorrow some lightning and heavy

:25:35. > :26:02.downpours quite likely. Sunday looks better. As I mdntioned

:26:03. > :26:08.earlier, the Met Office continues with this broadbrush weather warning

:26:09. > :26:11.which covers all of our reghon. The further East and more few are the

:26:12. > :26:17.threat might be greater. It is the first part of Saturday that we have

:26:18. > :26:21.concerned about. Whether it will cross our region or not is still an

:26:22. > :26:27.area of doubt. I do stress that point. By our breakfast bulletins

:26:28. > :26:32.tomorrow, we will be seeing it on radar. So we will have a better

:26:33. > :26:39.idea. There is a cold front coming in from the West, this plumd of hot,

:26:40. > :26:44.humid, Spanish air taking shape today. Hence the threat of the

:26:45. > :26:49.thunderstorms and the rain. You will see that moving northwards tomorrow.

:26:50. > :26:54.Sunday is looking a much better day. So for the rest of this evening

:26:55. > :27:02.already signs that some of the mid`level cloud is starting to

:27:03. > :27:06.deliver a shower or two. For just these isolated are`s of

:27:07. > :27:09.elevated thunderstorms, thex will be delivered across parts of the West

:27:10. > :27:13.Country but by daybreak tomorrow that is when we get this much more

:27:14. > :27:17.organised cluster of thunderstorms moving up from the side. Thdy will

:27:18. > :27:25.be critical to our fortune but the further East you are the more likely

:27:26. > :27:28.they are to happen. All of that rain eventually clearing the way to the

:27:29. > :27:32.North tomorrow and bright and drier conditions leading the course of the

:27:33. > :27:37.afternoon. The second half of the is better.

:27:38. > :27:45.That is it from us for now. We have a great Sunday Politics this week,

:27:46. > :27:57.with Kevin McCloud. See you then. Have a lovely weekend.
