:01:29. > :01:34.are failing to find out if justice is being sought for their staff
:01:35. > :01:37.All our hospitals are required to compile the number of assaults
:01:38. > :01:43.Those can include cautions, fines and imprisonment.
:01:44. > :01:47.NHS figures show that for the past five years North Bristol Trtst has
:01:48. > :01:52.had more than 1000 reported assaults on staff, yet in not one single case
:01:53. > :01:56.has there been a declared s`nction recorded by the hospital.
:01:57. > :02:00.Great Western Hospital in Swindon has also declared no sanctions
:02:01. > :02:06.The one Trust with a far better record is
:02:07. > :02:11.The past 12 years, a police officer has been stationed here
:02:12. > :02:16.They had 757 reported assaults over the same period, but in 100 of those
:02:17. > :02:24.I think it does make a diffdrence on the basis that I'm here to be
:02:25. > :02:28.able to respond to incidents that are happening, but also to support
:02:29. > :02:34.It is reassurance for the p`tients and visitors who come here.
:02:35. > :02:36.No other hospital in the West was prepared to be interviewed,
:02:37. > :02:40.but in a statement Great Western in Swindon said we will not tolerate
:02:41. > :02:45.violence against staff and that managers will follow`up inchdents.
:02:46. > :02:49.Both they and North Bristol Trust say it's ultimately down to
:02:50. > :02:54.individual members of staff as to whether they contact the police
:02:55. > :02:58.Of course, many assaults involve vulnerable patients with conditions
:02:59. > :03:02.like dementia, but some hospitals still seem to have questions to
:03:03. > :03:11.answer about how seriously they take attacks on staff.
