:02:03. > :02:07.right thing by Hollie. To ensure the outcome would reflect the horrendous

:02:17. > :02:28.At the end of last year Hollie wrote on Facebook

:03:44. > :03:46.And for her family, now that the court process is over they can move

:03:47. > :03:55.on and concentrate on the trust and finally grieve for Hollhe.

:04:02. > :04:05.Ray Jones says social workers have been unfairly treated

:04:42. > :04:45.It argues that referrals to social services have rocketed

:04:46. > :04:48.as a result and it's been more difficult to recruit and retain

:04:49. > :04:53.I think a lot of people who were thinking about staying on

:04:54. > :04:56.the front line are now thinking is that a sensible job to be doing when

:04:57. > :05:00.I think social workers, police officers,

:05:01. > :05:03.community paediatricians and doctors are having to cut corners to get to

:05:04. > :05:09.As a consequence, we may not be spotting the children we nedd to.

:05:10. > :05:13.Despite the so`called baby P effect, as well as the challenges

:05:14. > :05:17.of meeting the needs of are`s like this, Bristol City Council are

:05:18. > :05:21.still rated as good when it comes to child protection and it hs still

:05:22. > :05:30.But elsewhere in the West the picture isn't quite rosx.

:05:31. > :05:37.Somerset has been rated 'inadequate' by Ofsted.

:05:38. > :05:39.They have 36 vacancies in Childrens social services and

:05:40. > :05:43.their referal rate has risen from 500 cases in 2009 to 732 in 201 .

:05:44. > :05:46.In Wiltshire, referals have trebled since 200 .

:05:47. > :05:52.Referals have also doubled hn Bath and North East Somerset.

:05:53. > :05:55.The social workers job that Alex loves still has its own rew`rds

:05:56. > :05:59.But his profession is going to have to attract many more people of high

:06:00. > :06:09.calibre if it is to meet thd growing challenges of protecting chhldren.
