:00:13. > :00:16.The new Environment Secretary has been in Somerset today on hdr

:00:17. > :00:21.first visit to the area which was devastated by the winter floods

:00:22. > :00:24.Ten days after taking up her new position, Elizabeth Truss wdnt to

:00:25. > :00:28.Burrowbridge to see the dredging of the rivers Tone and Parrdtt.

:00:29. > :00:31.But some people who were badly affected by

:00:32. > :00:34.the floods say they're disappointed not to meet the minister in person

:00:35. > :00:43.Monday morning and day ten in the post and the new

:00:44. > :00:46.Environment Minister Elisabdth Truss is deep in Somerset by the side

:00:47. > :00:48.of the River Tone, seeing for herself the dredging developments.

:00:49. > :00:53.After all, it is costing her government over ?5 million.

:00:54. > :00:57.The reason I am in Somerset within ten days of being appointed

:00:58. > :01:00.is I see it as a real priorhty to make sure the area

:01:01. > :01:03.is properly protected against flooding and to make sure

:01:04. > :01:06.we're putting in place our action plan

:01:07. > :01:11.What I'm delighted to see is the dredging taking placd,

:01:12. > :01:14.the fact the dredging is on schedule.

:01:15. > :01:17.I know that is very important from the point of view

:01:18. > :01:19.of local businesses, local residents.

:01:20. > :01:22.As the Environment Secretarx said, the dredging is on track `

:01:23. > :01:27.They've been doing it now for four months.

:01:28. > :01:30.They have dredged three kilometres of the eight kilometre stretch.

:01:31. > :01:34.But it's not just dredging her predecessor Owen Paterson

:01:35. > :01:37.was talking about, he was also looking at the possibility

:01:38. > :01:42.of a barrage outside Bridgewater that could cost ?30 million.

:01:43. > :01:47.Today the new Secretary said she would not be drawn on this.

:01:48. > :01:50.We will be looking at furthdr proposals as time goes on

:01:51. > :01:53.but the government has shown its commitment

:01:54. > :01:56.by putting the funding into Somerset for this.

:01:57. > :02:00.The Secretary was then whisked off for talks with the

:02:01. > :02:05.But some prominent farmers were disappointed not to meet her.

:02:06. > :02:09.We built up a really good relationship with Owen Paterson

:02:10. > :02:12.He would ask our opinion and actually listen.

:02:13. > :02:16.We are very disappointed and we'll have to work very hard

:02:17. > :02:19.to build that sort of relathonship with the new Secretary.

:02:20. > :02:23.Very pleased that she's comd down to see what's going on `

:02:24. > :02:31.Ten days into the job and she's showing an interest, which hs good.

:02:32. > :02:34.She's taking it really seriously, having a good look around.

:02:35. > :02:38.There's a lot of bits missing like meeting any of the loc`ls

:02:39. > :02:42.or the people who have been heavily involved, as I have been.

:02:43. > :02:47.We haven't seen her today btt hopefully she'll come down.

:02:48. > :02:52.Next time she can come for ` cup of tea in my building site.

:02:53. > :02:56.The message though from Whitehall is there'll be no change in policy

:02:57. > :03:01.the only change lies with the politician.

:03:02. > :03:04.A driver involved in an accident which killed

:03:05. > :03:08.a three`year`old boy in Bristol is to be prosecuted for manslatghter.

:03:09. > :03:11.Freddie Hussey died in a collision in Bedminster back in January.

:03:12. > :03:14.Following a police investig`tion, 37`year`old Tony Davies frol Hallen

:03:15. > :03:18.has been summoned to appear before magistrates when he will be

:03:19. > :03:23.charged with manslaughter and causing death by dangerous driving.

:03:24. > :03:26.Investigations are continuing into the collapse of the Wiltshire

:03:27. > :03:30.The company, which was based in Chippenh`m,

:03:31. > :03:33.went into administration after trading for almost a hundred years.

:03:34. > :03:37.It's thrown many holidaymakdrs' plans into doubt, but as

:03:38. > :03:40.our Wiltshire reporter Will Glennon explains, there was some good news

:03:41. > :03:56.We used to take their children when they were young to the caravan park.

:03:57. > :04:01.Sue Dixon is a full`time carer for her autistic son. Yesterday she had

:04:02. > :04:07.a day trip to Swanage, a rare chance for a break from responsibilities. I

:04:08. > :04:15.think about it all the time. To be able to switch off is just such a

:04:16. > :04:19.relief. The trip was run by Hatts Travel which went out of business on

:04:20. > :04:22.Friday. The company honoured one last booking, even though it had

:04:23. > :04:28.looked like they would lose their holiday. I am used to things

:04:29. > :04:34.happening and not being abld to do certain things but I would have been

:04:35. > :04:37.very disappointed. It was organised by Carer Support Wiltshire. They

:04:38. > :04:42.initially told everyone it was off but then the turnaround in fortunes.

:04:43. > :04:47.Some people were in tears, very upset, and really disappointed that

:04:48. > :04:51.something they had been looking forward to had been pulled but

:04:52. > :04:56.equally, when we were able to get back to them and confirm it was

:04:57. > :05:02.going ahead, they were thrilled Hatts Travel stopped trading on

:05:03. > :05:08.Friday. The coaches came back to the depot and 90 staff were madd

:05:09. > :05:11.redundant. Around 1000 holiday`makers lost trips. Legally

:05:12. > :05:15.their money should have been safe in a travel bond or with the

:05:16. > :05:19.appropriate insurers. It wotld appear that the company does not

:05:20. > :05:23.have any of those things and it did have a trust account for many but

:05:24. > :05:30.there is no many in that account so that is something that as p`rt of

:05:31. > :05:37.our duties, legally responshble duties, we will have to invdstigate.

:05:38. > :05:40.Administrators are still trxing to establish the financial poshtion.

:05:41. > :05:44.Customers are being told to contact their credit and debit card

:05:45. > :05:49.companies in the first inst`nce but some good news today, despite the

:05:50. > :05:51.company collapsed, no one h`s been left stranded either at homd or

:05:52. > :05:54.abroad. It's been another successful night

:05:55. > :05:58.for our athletes in the Comlonwealth Jazz Carlin from Swindon was one

:05:59. > :06:04.of the favourites to win thd women's 800m freestyle final and the

:06:05. > :06:08.world number two didn't dis`ppoint. The 23`year`old also set

:06:09. > :06:11.a new Commonwealth Games record Also competing in swimming finals

:06:12. > :06:15.tonight was James Guy who trains In an extremely close final,

:06:16. > :06:21.he swam into sixth place Out of the pool,

:06:22. > :06:26.Bristol weightlifter Bradley Burrowes failed to get

:06:27. > :06:30.a medal in the 85 kilo category The 34`year`old, who trains

:06:31. > :06:34.at the Empire gym in St Pauls, drove the bar too far forward to hold

:06:35. > :06:57.on to the weight for a medal place. It was a good way to go out, in the

:06:58. > :06:58.Commonwealth Games. I am a little disappointed because I know I can do

:06:59. > :07:02.more. This is how

:07:03. > :07:05.the medal table looks tonight They've

:07:06. > :07:10.so far managed to win six golds six You can find more

:07:11. > :07:16.on the Commonwealth Games and the rest of today's news

:07:17. > :07:19.from Glasgow on the BBC website A major demolition project has begun

:07:20. > :07:22.at the home of The historic Wedlock Stand hs coming

:07:23. > :07:27.down as part of a ?45 million Over the next two years,

:07:28. > :07:44.the stadium will be expanded to This is a very significant day for

:07:45. > :07:50.the club and the fans who h`ve spent many happy days watching gales from

:07:51. > :07:54.the stand. We want to make sure a lot of noise stays in the stadium so

:07:55. > :07:59.filling in the corners and building on the roof will make sure that

:08:00. > :08:01.happens. The objective is to create a fantastic atmosphere for rugby and

:08:02. > :08:04.football. Marine experts have told thd BBC

:08:05. > :08:07.it's now highly likely a dolphin spotted in the

:08:08. > :08:09.River Severn on Saturday will make The mammal, which made

:08:10. > :08:13.its way up from the estuary, has been seen around Stonebdnch

:08:14. > :08:16.and Elmore over the past wedk. There's been no reported

:08:17. > :08:17.sightings since Saturday. It's hoped it used

:08:18. > :08:20.the high tide to negotiate the notorious mud banks and work

:08:21. > :08:23.its way back into the estuary. There's more news on the BBC

:08:24. > :08:27.website. We'll be back with you in Breakfast

:08:28. > :08:29.tomorrow. But for now,

:08:30. > :08:42.I'll leave you with Ian, who has A good deal of sunshine arotnd on

:08:43. > :08:48.Tuesday. More cloud through the course of the afternoon. It will be

:08:49. > :10:21.a fairly warm day. We have seen some showers this evening.

:10:22. > :10:26.a fairly warm day. We have seen some mostly light and patchy. Nothing

:10:27. > :10:29.like we saw through the early part of today.

:10:30. > :10:34.Head further west and we have this area of clearer skies. Sunny to

:10:35. > :10:36.start the day across much of south-west England, through the

:10:37. > :10:37.Midlands, Wales and the north-east
