:00:00. > :00:00.Welcome to BBC Points West with Alex Lovell and Sabet Choudhury Our
:00:00. > :00:09.main story tonight ` in the footsteps of her predecessor.
:00:10. > :00:12.The new environment secretary comes to see the continuing work to
:00:13. > :00:20.protect people living on the Somerset levels from flooding.
:00:21. > :00:27.The reason I am in Somerset within ten days of my appointment is it is
:00:28. > :00:30.a real priority to make sure the area is properly protected against
:00:31. > :00:37.flooding and to make sure we are putting in place the action plan and
:00:38. > :00:41.that it is happening. The visit has been welcomed by many but some are
:00:42. > :00:42.clearly still affected by the flooding and they feel disappointed
:00:43. > :00:49.not to have met her. Also tonight after
:00:50. > :00:52.the disappointment the questions. How did a Wiltshire coach company
:00:53. > :00:55.which has traded The dolphin which has drifted
:00:56. > :01:02.off course and found itself The west athletes trying to build
:01:03. > :01:11.on a successful weekend The new Environment Secretary has
:01:12. > :01:20.been in Somerset today, on her first visit to the area which was
:01:21. > :01:24.devastated by the winter's floods. Ten days
:01:25. > :01:28.after taking up her new position, Elisabeth Truss went to Burrowbridge
:01:29. > :01:30.to see firsthand the dredging But some people who were badly
:01:31. > :01:36.affected by the floods say they're deeply disappointed not to meet
:01:37. > :01:56.the minister in person to talk Yes, this home six months on from
:01:57. > :02:01.when water hit and the residents were living here but as you can see
:02:02. > :02:06.it is still in pieces, completely needs to be gutted. This was the
:02:07. > :02:11.office, that was the hall and this was the dining room stepping over
:02:12. > :02:15.breaks, it is dirty, rotten timbers, this is very upsetting for the
:02:16. > :02:21.family who were desperate to get back in. They will not return now
:02:22. > :02:25.until Christmas. Today, the new Environment Secretary came to
:02:26. > :02:27.Somerset to see what was going on, to hopefully present this happening
:02:28. > :02:29.again. Monday morning and day 10
:02:30. > :02:31.in the post and the new environment minister
:02:32. > :02:34.Elisabeth Truss is deep in Somerset Seeing her herself
:02:35. > :02:38.the dredging developments. After all it is costing her
:02:39. > :02:51.government over five million pounds. The reason I am in Somerset within
:02:52. > :02:55.ten days of my appointment is I see it as a priority to make sure the
:02:56. > :02:59.area is protected against flooding and to make sure we are putting in
:03:00. > :03:03.place our action plan and that the action plan is happening. I am
:03:04. > :03:09.delighted to see the dredging taking place, the dredging is on schedule,
:03:10. > :03:15.that is important for local businesses, local residents. The
:03:16. > :03:29.dredging is on track, it is perfectly to time. They have been
:03:30. > :03:33.doing it for four months. Owen Paterson was looking at the
:03:34. > :03:37.possibility of a barrage outside Bridgwater which could cost ?30
:03:38. > :03:42.million. Today, the new secretary said she would not be drawn on this.
:03:43. > :03:46.Of course, we look at further proposals by the government has
:03:47. > :03:48.shown its commitment by putting the funding in.
:03:49. > :03:51.The secretary was then whisked off for talks with the
:03:52. > :03:58.But some prominent farmers were disappointed not to meet her.
:03:59. > :04:07.We built up a good relationship with Owen Paterson. He asked our opinion
:04:08. > :04:12.and we are very disappointed and we will have two work hard to build
:04:13. > :04:16.that relationship with a new Secretary of State. I am pleased she
:04:17. > :04:22.came to see what is going on and how it is going. Ten days into the job
:04:23. > :04:25.and she is showing an interest which is good.
:04:26. > :04:27.The message though from Whitehall is there'll be no
:04:28. > :04:35.change in policy ` the only change lies with the politician.
:04:36. > :04:41.Coming into the kitchen on higher ground and the builders have been
:04:42. > :04:48.here today doing a lot. What is it like being back here? Honestly it is
:04:49. > :04:55.like wading through treacle and living hell. What we have been
:04:56. > :04:59.through and experienced, we do not wish on your worst enemy. It is an
:05:00. > :05:07.absolute nightmare. Tell us about your son. Yes, he is seven years old
:05:08. > :05:12.but last night he was suffering with the heat, did not feel well and
:05:13. > :05:20.asked if we could go home. We all want to go home but it is an
:05:21. > :05:26.absolute state. How did you feel that the Environment Secretary came
:05:27. > :05:31.here, ten days into her job. We are really pleased. Ten days in and she
:05:32. > :05:36.is here all ready, fantastic news. She is taking it seriously. But
:05:37. > :05:40.there is a lot of bits missing like meeting the locals and the people
:05:41. > :05:46.who have been heavily involved as I have, we have not seen her today but
:05:47. > :05:56.hopefully she will come down and next time she can come for a cup of
:05:57. > :06:00.tea at the building site. People are delighted she came but disappointed
:06:01. > :06:03.she did not see them. She promises to come back soon and next time
:06:04. > :06:07.hopefully she will see the real people who are still being affected.
:06:08. > :06:09.Wiltshire Police are renewing an appeal for witnesses following
:06:10. > :06:14.It happened in the early hours of yesterday morning when a silver
:06:15. > :06:19.The driver and two passengers died at the scene.
:06:20. > :06:23.A driver involved in an accident which killed
:06:24. > :06:27.a three year old boy in Bristol is to be prosecuted for manslaughter.
:06:28. > :06:32.Freddie Hussey died in a collision in Bedminster back in January.
:06:33. > :06:35.Following a police investigation 37 year old Tony Davies from Hallen has
:06:36. > :06:39.been summonsed to appear before magistrates when he will be
:06:40. > :06:45.charged with manslaughter and causing death by dangerous driving.
:06:46. > :06:47.The Wiltshire charity Help for Heroes has condemned
:06:48. > :06:51.a man who admitted stealing ?300,000 from them.
:06:52. > :06:55.Christopher Copeland employed teams of collectors at supermarkets and
:06:56. > :07:00.He told his helpers he was passing on the money to Help for Heroes
:07:01. > :07:03.but instead put it straight into his own bank account.
:07:04. > :07:06.Speaking outside court, Copeland said he would spend the rest of his
:07:07. > :07:23.The public will look at you and think this is utter nonsense.
:07:24. > :07:39.There's been something of a gold rush for West Country
:07:40. > :07:47.Since Friday night our competitors have won an amazing five golds.
:07:48. > :07:56.The weekend brought the best out of our competitors didn't it.
:07:57. > :08:06.And it means the medal tally stands like this.
:08:07. > :08:11.That flurry of golds began Friday evening when Bath`based Megan
:08:12. > :08:15.Fletcher won her Judo final in the under`70 kilo category.
:08:16. > :08:19.Just a couple of hours later the University of
:08:20. > :08:21.Bath swimmer Chris Walker`Hebborn won the 100 metres backstroke title
:08:22. > :08:26.On Saturday, Gloucestershire's Vicky Holland was part of the gold`medal
:08:27. > :08:31.And Bristol shooter David Luckman also finished top of the podium
:08:32. > :08:37.Yesterday, Bitton's Siobhan`Marie O'Connor finished
:08:38. > :08:40.off a fantastic weekend with gold in the 200 metres individual medley
:08:41. > :08:50.That is the sort of feeling which we trained so hard to have
:08:51. > :09:00.It makes everything worth it, the sacrifices and stuff.
:09:01. > :09:05.It is one of the best moments of my life!
:09:06. > :09:08.Well Megan Fletcher's Judo gold was extra special after her brother was
:09:09. > :09:13.ruled out of the games with a knee injury just a fortnight ago.
:09:14. > :09:18.I spoke with her earlier today to see if her sucess has sunk in yet.
:09:19. > :09:25.I've had a couple of days but I cannot believe it has happened.
:09:26. > :09:31.It would be nice to have a Commonwealth gold medal
:09:32. > :09:36.I expected to see you wearing it, where is it?
:09:37. > :09:44.I wasn't sure whether to put it on or not but here it is.
:09:45. > :09:52.No, it has been tucked away in my bedroom most of the time.
:09:53. > :09:57.Some people have taken them out on nights out but there is no way
:09:58. > :10:01.no way I am losing this because I would lose it on a night out.
:10:02. > :10:05.We hoped both yourself and your brother would be competing
:10:06. > :10:10.in the games, it was disappointeing he pulled out with a week to go.
:10:11. > :10:14.What is his reaction to your success?
:10:15. > :10:20.After I won the semifinal he gave me a massive
:10:21. > :10:25.hug and he was teary and he said to me that day was so amazing for him
:10:26. > :10:28.even after his disappointment, I am glad I could make him happy
:10:29. > :10:37.He has been a massive support even after his disappointment.
:10:38. > :10:47.Ali will be back with a look ahead to the rest
:10:48. > :10:55.of the day's action at the Commonwealth Games a little later.
:10:56. > :10:58.Thanks very much for joining us on this Monday evening.
:10:59. > :11:00.We still have plenty more to come, including...
:11:01. > :11:03.The diggers are going in at the start of a major redevelopment
:11:04. > :11:14.Investigations are continuing into the collapse of the Wiltshire
:11:15. > :11:20.The company, which was based in Chippenham, collapsed after
:11:21. > :11:27.It's thrown many holiday makers' plans into doubt, but as
:11:28. > :11:30.our Wiltshire reporter Will Glennon explains ` there was some good news
:11:31. > :11:44.They came back to their base today, possibly for the last time after 86
:11:45. > :11:49.years in business, the company bosses called in administrators
:11:50. > :11:55.saying they had run out of money. It is easy to say but that is the
:11:56. > :11:59.problem. It has run out of cash. We got involved a week ago today and
:12:00. > :12:03.have been working hard to see if there was a solution but there
:12:04. > :12:09.isn't. I guess it was too late in the day and we have no option than
:12:10. > :12:12.to close the business. All 89 employees were caused to a meeting
:12:13. > :12:17.at lunch time to be told they were losing their jobs. It is one of
:12:18. > :12:25.those things that happen in life and you have to get on with it. We have
:12:26. > :12:31.all finished now. They run blush `` bus services and school transport.
:12:32. > :12:36.It also ran a day trip and holiday business, a thousand customers will
:12:37. > :12:42.now be left at home. Michael has retired. He has been looking forward
:12:43. > :12:52.to four days in Weymouth for his wife?s birthday. It cost over ?350.
:12:53. > :12:58.He doesn't know what will happen to his money. Gutted, disgusted and I
:12:59. > :13:06.cannot say it on camera. It is depressing, stressful, the wife is
:13:07. > :13:13.upset. We need it at this time. It is her birthday on Monday. It has
:13:14. > :13:20.been ruined. People all over Wiltshire are affected. We have
:13:21. > :13:32.lived here for about six or seven years and we have always gone on day
:13:33. > :13:35.trips with them. It does affect us. Other day trips are from Trowbridge
:13:36. > :13:42.so it will affect us. We like the day trips. The holiday business has
:13:43. > :13:44.now stopped trading. With a company not affiliated to travel
:13:45. > :13:51.Association, customers are being told to contact their bank or credit
:13:52. > :13:54.card company to find out if they will get a refund. For this coach
:13:55. > :14:06.company, it is the end of road. The force's police
:14:07. > :14:09.and crime commissioner says it will save money, but it's being claimed
:14:10. > :14:12.it could also lead to fewer officers This report by our Home Affairs
:14:13. > :14:17.Correspondent, Steve Brodie. This state of
:14:18. > :14:21.the art custody centre at Keynsham may look like something out of Star
:14:22. > :14:26.Trek but is has 48 cells, digital Over
:14:27. > :14:30.a thousand police officers and staff will work at the three centres which
:14:31. > :14:49.crime commissioner Sue Mountstevens What we have done is by coming into
:14:50. > :14:53.larger buildings we can be more efficient on processes such as
:14:54. > :15:01.dealing with detainees for custody and it means now officers can get
:15:02. > :15:04.back on the streets quicker. The older places, the bureaucracy and
:15:05. > :15:08.waiting times would take an officer off the street for a few hours. That
:15:09. > :15:30.will not happen here. It's 10.8 miles
:15:31. > :15:32.from Bristol city centre via the M32 At 12 noon today the journey
:15:33. > :15:39.time takes around 49 minutes. The journey from Bristol to Keynsham
:15:40. > :15:44.is 5.7 miles From Minehead to
:15:45. > :15:49.the Bridgwater centre is 26.7 miles But the force argues
:15:50. > :16:08.the new structure is a step Once detainees are here they will be
:16:09. > :16:14.`` there will be a team of staff dealing with them and releasing the
:16:15. > :16:20.arresting officers backed their street duties. That is more
:16:21. > :16:24.efficient and effective in dealing with detainees and we are conscious
:16:25. > :16:25.we want officers on the street back in their community and
:16:26. > :16:34.neighbourhood. Marine experts have told Points West
:16:35. > :16:37.it's now highly likely a dolphin spotted in the River Severn will
:16:38. > :16:40.make it's own way back to safety. The dolphin, which made it's way up
:16:41. > :16:43.from the estuary, has been seen around Stonebench
:16:44. > :16:45.and Elmore during the past week. Here's our Gloucestershire reporter,
:16:46. > :16:47.Steve Knibbs. Filmed on Saturday morning `
:16:48. > :16:49.a bottlenosed dolphin in the At just 2`3 metres long it's still
:16:50. > :16:55.a youngster ` and although it's common to see such species
:16:56. > :16:58.in the estuary ` seeing them this Nellie, as its been nicknamed
:16:59. > :17:03.by some, took advantage of the high tides to get here to
:17:04. > :17:07.look for food ` picking off some Alexandra, who filmed the dolphin at
:17:08. > :17:14.the weekend said that, thankfully, A bit covered in silt
:17:15. > :17:20.but that is to be expected. Seemed good to say the least
:17:21. > :17:28.which was relieving for us because This isn't the first time that
:17:29. > :17:35.unexpected species have paid a visit ` last year Keith the Seal, who
:17:36. > :17:39.turned out to be a girl, was spotted In 2012 this whale lost it's life
:17:40. > :17:46.after becoming stranded on the river bank ` despite a huge
:17:47. > :17:51.effort by rescue teams to save it. But as for our dolphin `
:17:52. > :17:54.experts are sure it can make it back home after coming to Gloucestershire
:17:55. > :17:57.for a feed. It gains food by sonar, it
:17:58. > :18:03.follows fish by sonar, not sight. It more less knows where is, it
:18:04. > :18:14.knows it is confined from the sonar. The public have been asked not to
:18:15. > :18:21.make a huge fuss if they see the dolphin to avoid causing it too
:18:22. > :18:24.much stress but there have been no reported sightings since Saturday `
:18:25. > :18:27.the hope is that it's used the high tide to negotiate the notorious
:18:28. > :18:30.mudbanks south of here and back A major demolition project
:18:31. > :18:41.at the home of Bristol City Football The historic Wedlock Stand is coming
:18:42. > :18:45.down as part of a forty five million pound
:18:46. > :18:48.rebuild of the Ashton Gate Stadium. Over the next two years
:18:49. > :18:53.the stadium will be expanded to This is significant for the club
:18:54. > :19:02.and the fans who have spent many years quite happily watching games
:19:03. > :19:05.from the East stand. We have been careful with the design
:19:06. > :19:09.to make sure a lot of noise stays in the stadium so filling
:19:10. > :19:12.in the corners and building the roof The objective is to create
:19:13. > :19:17.a fantastic atmosphere for rugby So after all those medals
:19:18. > :19:23.at the weekend what are the prospects of more success
:19:24. > :19:29.tonight at the Commonwealth Games? Ali is back with us `
:19:30. > :19:34.what's been happening today? Well, we came close to a medal
:19:35. > :19:36.in the shooting. Kristian Callaghan,
:19:37. > :19:38.an engineering student at the University of Bath has been
:19:39. > :19:42.competing in the 50 metres pistol. After qualifying for the final
:19:43. > :19:45.in second place, he couldn't recreate the same form,
:19:46. > :19:49.and finished in fifth place. But as you can see he still
:19:50. > :19:52.thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Bath sprinter Sophie Papps
:19:53. > :19:56.in the red shorts is another who's having a great time `
:19:57. > :19:59.this is her 100 metres heat from earlier today ` she finished
:20:00. > :20:02.in third and is through to the I only got told I was running
:20:03. > :20:11.on Thursday. I have been thrown
:20:12. > :20:14.in the deep end but I am excited and I am having such a good time
:20:15. > :20:29.and Glasgow is so nice. Tonight Swindon swimmer Jaz Carlin
:20:30. > :20:35.will be going for gold in the final The 23`year`old broke
:20:36. > :20:41.the games record in her heat winning the world and goes into the race in
:20:42. > :20:44.the next hour as one of the She's ranked number 2
:20:45. > :20:46.in the world and goes into the race in the next hour
:20:47. > :20:50.as one of the favourites for gold. I have been waiting around for a
:20:51. > :20:53.couple of days to swim a main event. I've been training hard,
:20:54. > :20:56.I put in all the effort this year. It is about staying calm
:20:57. > :21:00.and relaxed for the final. I loved finishing
:21:01. > :21:06.and the crowd are amazing. Two Bristol weightlifters

:22:05. > :22:09.and we could not see ourselves He gives me stick
:22:10. > :22:12.when I am training. I am in pain

:22:35. > :22:37.and quite late following I did not really know anything
:22:38. > :22:45.about my dad?s career until when I I knew how well he had done
:22:46. > :22:53.and what I had to live up to. I have to go to the

:23:06. > :23:10.of the most important things, For me, I have to ensure I am
:23:11. > :23:19.sitting around that weight whilst building muscle so it is super

:24:03. > :24:25.Lower Langford in North Somerset The gymnastics! Your explanation of
:24:26. > :24:27.the gymnastics was very physical. You missed out. It was like

:25:10. > :25:13.Bristol. We are on the periphery between some showers in the east,
:25:14. > :25:22.the skies are looking quite threatening. Further west, clearer
:25:23. > :25:28.skies. Tomorrow, the skies will be much more in a widespread moat ``
:25:29. > :25:35.note. A warm day, generally a good deal of sunshine around. There are
:25:36. > :25:39.some caveats. You may have seen there has been some horrendous
:25:40. > :25:46.weather across London and the south`east. The western extreme of
:25:47. > :25:51.that system has brought cloud showers into Wiltshire. That is
