:00:00. > :00:16.A deal has finally been struck which may lead to a fire being put
:00:17. > :00:21.The burning waste at the site in Swindon has left a cloud
:00:22. > :00:23.of smoke hanging over the town for almost a month.
:00:24. > :00:36.Swindon, a town under a cloud. For 24 days the fire at this waste
:00:37. > :00:40.facility has smouldered, filling the air with the stench of burning
:00:41. > :00:45.plastic. It's proved too much for businesses nearby. This one forced
:00:46. > :00:49.to close for nine days. And local residents all say enough is enough.
:00:50. > :00:57.It's been really bad actually. There's been ash falling down. It's
:00:58. > :01:00.really smoky. You just stink, your hair, your clothes. It's been quite
:01:01. > :01:03.horrendous when it's blowing over this way. It's been quite hard
:01:04. > :01:08.especially with the hot weather. We have not been able to open windows,
:01:09. > :01:13.get fresh air rolling through. Can't hang washing out. It's been quite
:01:14. > :01:19.hot in the house. Also the smell is just horrible. It's not like a
:01:20. > :01:23.barbecue smell. But it's a rubbery, Burney smell. It's not been very
:01:24. > :01:27.nice, especially it's been nearly a month now. This has been the problem
:01:28. > :01:31.for firefighters. Tightly stacked mounds of 1,000 tonnes of household
:01:32. > :01:35.waste, difficult to get to, difficult to put out. But today at
:01:36. > :01:39.long last for local residents, a deal has been struck which could see
:01:40. > :01:44.some of this waste that isn't on fire taken off site which would
:01:45. > :01:48.allow firefighters better access to put out the flames. The council had
:01:49. > :01:54.suggested dumping the waste at this park and ride site. But to the joy
:01:55. > :01:58.of campaigners today that plan was ditched. Instead, the firm which
:01:59. > :02:04.runs the site has been ordered to move the waste out of town and foot
:02:05. > :02:07.the bill. They've been instructed by the Environment Agency to start
:02:08. > :02:12.removing the waste from tomorrow. It will be then up to the Environment
:02:13. > :02:17.Agency if that doesn't happen to ensure that is carried out. So to
:02:18. > :02:22.enable the Fire Brigade to get in and put the fire out. Firefighters
:02:23. > :02:26.warn that removing the rubbish will in itself fan the flames in a fire
:02:27. > :02:29.that may yet have a month to burn. But at least today a whiff of hope
:02:30. > :02:34.for those fed up with the fumes. The Prime Minister has been
:02:35. > :02:38.in the West today as he cut short his summer break to oversee
:02:39. > :02:40.Britain's aid mission to Iraq. David Cameron was at Cotswold
:02:41. > :02:42.Airport in Gloucestershire. He was shown
:02:43. > :02:46.the aid being packed to leave Solar`powered lamps and water

:02:51. > :02:56.a tower in school grounds moments That's the finding of a report
:02:57. > :03:00.into an accident near Downside Abbey Investigators say the pilot,
:03:01. > :03:03.Glenn Packmeyer, who was 66, did take action to avoid
:03:04. > :03:07.the tower but crashed Thousands
:03:08. > :03:18.of A`level students picked up their results today and found out if
:03:19. > :03:21.they've got a place at university. But a survey of 650 local companies
:03:22. > :03:24.has found only 28% of employers thought university graduates had the
:03:25. > :03:26.skills needed for the workplace. That dropped to 10%
:03:27. > :03:29.when they were asked if A Levels And just 5% believe those who leave
:03:30. > :03:36.school at 16 can cope with what's So what's gone wrong
:03:37. > :03:42.and what's being done about it? Here's our business
:03:43. > :03:54.correspondent Dave Harvey. You are actually having a business
:03:55. > :04:00.network meeting in your school. Yes, it's double networking in the school
:04:01. > :04:05.hall. We are in Thornebury at the Castle School where 6th formers are
:04:06. > :04:11.coming face`to`face with many local companies to learn a vital lesson.
:04:12. > :04:16.People buy people and funnily enough, people buy people they like.
:04:17. > :04:20.Next year, these students will take their A`levels, but already they've
:04:21. > :04:25.learned they need something else, something simpler and yet scarier `
:04:26. > :04:31.the ability to talk to somebody you don't know. Our generation, people
:04:32. > :04:36.are scared to talk to people, to pick up the phone and ring someone
:04:37. > :04:39.is terrifying. We are reliant on using Facebook and Twitter and
:04:40. > :04:44.connecting without being able to see your face. Whilst they have the hard
:04:45. > :04:48.skills when they first leave school or university, they might know all
:04:49. > :04:51.the maths that they need for accounting and suchlike. What they
:04:52. > :04:57.haven't got are some communication skills. It's a widespread complaint.
:04:58. > :05:02.Thousands of firms told Business West of their exasperation with the
:05:03. > :05:07.quality of new recruits. They have to do some basic training over
:05:08. > :05:11.again. A lot of the attitude stuff, getting up on time, coming to work
:05:12. > :05:17.dressed properly, attitude, the right attitude. A combination of
:05:18. > :05:21.things. Soft skills, functional skills, expectations, enterprise.
:05:22. > :05:25.It's why so many employers turned up for this networking day. Not to
:05:26. > :05:31.recruit, but to help people like Ben get ready for the world of work. So
:05:32. > :05:35.what has he learned? Obviously got enthusiastic, smiling face, happy,
:05:36. > :05:39.looking forward to meeting them. Open body language, all these
:05:40. > :05:43.things. I came here today, butterflies in my stomach,
:05:44. > :05:47.obviously, but once I got involved it becomes easier. So much easier to
:05:48. > :05:50.talk to people once you relax a little bit. Can you get A*s in
:05:51. > :05:59.networking? Maybe you should. A Cheltenham man who was the first

:06:43. > :06:46.Through tomorrow there won't be threat of that weather but a few
:06:47. > :06:51.showers around. Generally speak ago good deal of dry and bright sunny
:06:52. > :06:53.weather. Through tonight we are losing the last of the showers
:06:54. > :06:59.towards the south`east. A dry night following. Temperatures dropping to
:07:00. > :07:02.about 9`11C for most. Higher than that in main urban centres. Tomorrow
:07:03. > :07:06.morning most starting dry. Maybe one or two light showers. Through the
:07:07. > :07:10.day the further east you are from the M5, the greater the chance you
:07:11. > :07:14.might see one or two showers. At most mod rattly heavy. Many areas
:07:15. > :07:18.will be avoiding those `` moderately. Some reasonable sunny

:07:23. > :07:27.Temperatures will get up higher than today, about 19, maybe as high as
