:00:21. > :00:23.and plastic containers as they go into a second night without water.

:00:24. > :00:26.In a moment we'll ask Bristol Water how long this disruption will go

:00:27. > :00:30.on for, but first Andrew Pl`nt has the story of the day.

:00:31. > :00:34.Queuing around the corner in this car park today to g`ther

:00:35. > :00:40.water for washing and a morning cup of tea as 24,000 homes woke up to

:00:41. > :00:51.Workmen up to their chests in this gigantic hole in thd road,

:00:52. > :00:56.digging out a water pipe th`t suddenly burst yesterday afternoon.

:00:57. > :00:58.I heard a noise and looked out the window, `nd

:00:59. > :01:11.It flooded 100 yards of road and poured into people's holes,

:01:12. > :01:15.even forcing evacuations by boat for the very young

:01:16. > :01:19.and the less able, carrier bags serving as improvised wellids,

:01:20. > :01:28.Last night those stuck outshde kept warm beneath blankets.

:01:29. > :01:32.This morning they woke up to mechanical diggers outside

:01:43. > :01:44.We are fortunate in that we have got electricity

:01:45. > :01:47.Over the road they've got no electricity, water or gas so, we've

:01:48. > :01:50.been helping the neighbours and just making a few flasks for thel over

:02:01. > :02:04.Several thousand homes are without water in the taps so these bowsers,

:02:05. > :02:08.huge mobile water holders, have been filled up

:02:09. > :02:14.Elsewhere they were handing out these pre`packaged six packs.

:02:15. > :02:21.People struggling away beneath the weight.

:02:38. > :02:47.So how is the repair work coming along?

:02:48. > :02:59.It's going well at the moment. The actual pipe has been replacdd so we

:03:00. > :03:03.have the new pipe in. The w`ter is flowing back through. The ndxt stage

:03:04. > :03:07.is to bring the water back hnto the system through the reservoir and to

:03:08. > :03:13.make sure the water quality is correct. It will take the rdst of

:03:14. > :03:22.the evening but we are confhdent that the water will be on for the

:03:23. > :03:26.mine. Do you know what happdned yet? No, the pipe is split along its

:03:27. > :03:32.length. That's unusual. It doesn't look particularly in bad sh`pe.

:03:33. > :03:37.We'll have to look at this when we get back to the depot. At the moment

:03:38. > :03:43.the most important thing is getting the work done. A lot of people s

:03:44. > :03:48.lives have been disrupted and businesses. People are saying you

:03:49. > :03:56.acted faster. Are we looking at compensation yet? No, in a case like

:03:57. > :04:00.this, obviously a burst watdr main can happen at any time. It's a big

:04:01. > :04:05.network. The job we have is to fix it. In this case, we were ddlayed

:04:06. > :04:12.because there were health and safety issues. Those issues had to be

:04:13. > :04:15.looked at and by the time that had been fixed and the gas has been

:04:16. > :04:19.disconnected we were behind in getting the work done.

:04:20. > :04:29.We apologise, obviously. We thank the customers for their pathence.

:07:03. > :07:05.until about 7.30am or 8.00al, where we do get the fog it lay well
