:01:22. > :01:25.Good evening. The Church in Wales is

:01:25. > :01:29.investigating after a Rector from Gwynedd burnt pages from the Bible,

:01:29. > :01:32.in what he called an "artistic statement". The Reverend Geraint ap

:01:32. > :01:37.Iorwerth from Pennal also cut up pages from the King James Bible to

:01:37. > :01:40.create his artwork, which he says reveals a "cruel and vile God". But

:01:40. > :01:45.the Bishop of Bangor has branded it disrespectful and says it will

:01:45. > :01:53.offend many people. Over now to our reporter Tomos Dafydd who's at an

:01:53. > :01:58.exhibition celebrating the bible in Good evening. Welcome to the

:01:58. > :02:03.Norwegian church in Cardiff Bay. This exhibition celebrates the

:02:03. > :02:07.400th anniversary of the King James Bible. These are some of the 66

:02:07. > :02:11.photographs representing the 66 books of the bible, but it is a

:02:11. > :02:21.different exhibition that has been hitting the headlines today. A

:02:21. > :02:25.

:02:25. > :02:32.rector from Pennal has has unveiled his own artwork made up of pages

:02:32. > :02:37.from of the bible. This is the story of the cruel god,

:02:37. > :02:40.a vengeful God that feels as you can see the hole bible.

:02:40. > :02:45.Reverend Geraint ap Iorwerth displays his new artwork, a collage

:02:45. > :02:48.of cuttings from the King James Bible. The work began as the rector

:02:48. > :02:55.started to reread the Bible at the beginning of lent.

:02:55. > :03:00.When we come to the positive words. The healing words, I put them on

:03:00. > :03:06.three tear drops, but sadly we condition ignore this huge wall of

:03:06. > :03:11.shame and that god is alien to me. Last Thursday, he decided to show

:03:11. > :03:15.the creation at his church. It was here too that he proceeded to burn

:03:15. > :03:21.remaining parts of the bible. There were a few pages left over

:03:21. > :03:24.from the huge bits that had gone missing after the work of art. I

:03:24. > :03:26.wanted the charred pages to be a memorial to the millions of people

:03:27. > :03:30.who suffered at the hands of this cruel god.

:03:30. > :03:35.Clearly, you are trying to get your point across here, but do you not

:03:35. > :03:39.feel there was a less provocative way of doing that? I wish there was

:03:39. > :03:44.because what drove me was the talk of the beautiful language of the

:03:44. > :03:47.King James Bible, nationwide, big churches are celebrating this.

:03:47. > :03:51.Nobody is asking the language behind it and that to me is

:03:51. > :03:54.something that I would have betrayed the gospel, the principle

:03:54. > :03:57.of Jesus's work if I hadn't highlighted what this language is

:03:57. > :04:02.talking about. One member of the congregation that

:04:02. > :04:08.day says she understands the vicar's actions. Well, that's what

:04:08. > :04:13.he feels. He didn't upset me at all. I don't think it upset anybody. I

:04:13. > :04:17.was talking to them all afterwards and none of them seemed upset.

:04:17. > :04:20.But not everybody shares the same view. The church in Wales Wales

:04:20. > :04:24.launched an investigation in what happened here a week ago and in a

:04:24. > :04:29.statement the Bishop of Bangor says destroying parts of the bible we

:04:29. > :04:39.don't like is disrespectful and will offend many people. Andy John

:04:39. > :04:50.

:04:50. > :04:53.has written to Reverend Geraint ap Reverend Geraint ap Iorwerth

:04:53. > :04:56.remains defiant. Next year he will be stepping down as vicar of Pennal,

:04:56. > :05:00.but he says he will continue to spread the message of love and

:05:00. > :05:09.peace in which he believes so strongly. He is hoping to have his

:05:09. > :05:13.It is a lovely evening, let me introduce you to Owen Brown, you

:05:13. > :05:17.are the curator and you work with Christian groups across the country.

:05:17. > :05:21.Are you offended by his actions? think the strongest emotion is

:05:21. > :05:24.probably sadness. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Reverend Geraint ap

:05:24. > :05:31.Iorwerth says that we should focus on the figure of gentlemen ses,

:05:31. > :05:35.that's great, but gentlemen ses in his teachings, he is clear and says

:05:35. > :05:42.we should not mess mess around with scripture.

:05:42. > :05:46.Do you think it is an over reaction to launch this enquiry? I think any

:05:46. > :05:50.officer in the church of Wales should regard the hole of scripture

:05:50. > :05:54.as very seriously, yeah. Language he uses is strong. He

:05:54. > :05:59.describes some of the passages of god being cruel and vile. How do

:05:59. > :06:02.you defend the god that's portrayed in some parts of the bible when you

:06:02. > :06:05.meet young Christian groups throughout the country? I don't

:06:06. > :06:10.think you can adopt the cut and paste attitude. On the one hand

:06:10. > :06:13.there is a god of fair judgement and justice, but on the other you

:06:13. > :06:18.have got a god of love and compassion and peace. We want a

:06:18. > :06:22.world of love and peace, but we also want a world in which fair

:06:22. > :06:25.judgement is exacted and the god of the bible offers both and it is

:06:25. > :06:29.those elements we try to get across in this exhibition.

:06:29. > :06:33.We live in a country where congregations are dwindling, but

:06:33. > :06:38.you disagree with his actions, do you welcome the fact of the

:06:38. > :06:42.opportunity to have this debate? Definitely. The Bible is amazing.

:06:42. > :06:49.So I think it is as relevant today as it was 400 years ago. Anything

:06:49. > :06:53.that encourages people to look again, look for the first time of

:06:53. > :07:00.the bible is amazing. Lucy, the investigation by the

:07:00. > :07:03.church of Wales has been launched The jury in the trial of two men

:07:03. > :07:06.accused of killing the Swansea couple, Ben and Catherine Mullany

:07:06. > :07:09.while on their honeymoon in Antigua, has heard recordings retrieved from

:07:09. > :07:14.Ben Mullany's mobile phone. They include a conversation between one

:07:14. > :07:17.of the men accused of killing him, talking to a female friend. In

:07:17. > :07:27.court today the defence was making its closing speeches. From Antigua,

:07:27. > :07:32.

:07:32. > :07:37.The defendants arriving at court., ""it wasn't me." That sums up the

:07:37. > :07:43.defence in one simple sentence. The prosecution said that on the other

:07:43. > :07:46.hand all the evidence pointed to Martin and Howell. AV Howell's

:07:47. > :07:50.decision not to give evidence under oath was highlighted. His silence

:07:50. > :07:55.is deafening the court was told. Martin made an unsworn statement

:07:55. > :07:58.from the dock. That was said to be a tissue of lies.

:07:58. > :08:02.Ben and Catherine Mullany had married weeks before they were

:08:02. > :08:12.attacked. It was the last day of their holiday. The motive, robbery.

:08:12. > :08:13.

:08:13. > :08:18.Cash, a mobile phone, and a camera. It was in their room at the hotel

:08:18. > :08:22.that Ben and Kath were shot at 5am. Mobile phone records put mart nn

:08:22. > :08:26.the area at the time. His version was he had gone there for a swim.

:08:26. > :08:36.The police investigation also discovered according to the

:08:36. > :08:45.prosecution that a a sim card belonging to Howell was put in Ben

:08:45. > :08:49.Mullany's mobile phone. The jury was played recordings from Ben

:08:49. > :08:59.Mullany's mobile phone. Also on the phone was music recorded by Ben

:08:59. > :09:09.We can go over live now to Antigua to get the latest from the court

:09:09. > :09:12.

:09:12. > :09:16.and our reporter Roger Pinney. What have the defence been saying?

:09:16. > :09:20.The defence tactic has been to attack the prosecution evidence. We

:09:20. > :09:25.have heard more of that today from Howell's lawyer. He highlighted

:09:25. > :09:30.what he said was key inconsistency in the statements given by

:09:30. > :09:38.prosecution witnesses, particularly with respect respect to who was

:09:38. > :09:47.where at time. He reminded the jury that the Mullanies were shot during

:09:47. > :09:50.Antigua's carnival time. He also said there was no evidence to tie

:09:50. > :09:55.his defendant to the vicinity of the Mullany's hotel at the time

:09:55. > :10:00.they were killed. Other than his close friendship with the other

:10:00. > :10:05.defendant. Martin has admitted he was in that area, but he said he

:10:05. > :10:10.only gone there to use the beach and have a swim.

:10:10. > :10:16.The court has adjourned. On Monday we expect to hear from Martin's

:10:16. > :10:23.defence lawyer. After that, it will be the judge's summing up and the

:10:23. > :10:26.jury rb sent out. The jury in the trial of a 16-year-

:10:26. > :10:29.old boy charged with the murder of his former girlfriend, have been

:10:29. > :10:31.sent home for the weekend after spending five hours considering

:10:31. > :10:36.their verdict today. 15-year-old, Rebbecca Aylward from Maesteg was

:10:36. > :10:38.found dead in woods in Aberkenfig near Bridgend in October last year.

:10:38. > :10:43.The 16-year-old defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons,

:10:43. > :10:48.claims that it was his friend, and not him, who battered her to death.

:10:49. > :10:51.The jury resumes its deliberations on Monday.

:10:52. > :10:55.The Royal Mint has announced 3.6 million in profits for the last

:10:55. > :10:57.financial year. As well as producing global currencies, the

:11:07. > :11:11.A 23-year-old mother has admitted killing her baby daughter just four

:11:11. > :11:14.days before her first birthday. Harley Ruck died as a result of

:11:15. > :11:17.multiple stab wounds in Abergavenny last November. Jade Ruck denies

:14:43. > :14:47.World War II, like Kathleen Baynham and her forces sweetheart here,

:14:47. > :14:53.went on to marry. The base itself was used to guard against invasion

:15:28. > :15:34.gas seized from Nazi Germany. It was a highly dangerous job. It was

:15:34. > :15:40.like a clear liquid. If you got any on your skin, it would kill you

:15:40. > :15:46.within 30 minutes. Despite this, good times were hard. Many people

:15:46. > :15:54.met their future partners. I was stationed here. We came on

:15:54. > :15:59.Valentine's Day. We met had started courting and eventually married

:15:59. > :16:09.after about 10 weeks. We all got on well together and pulled together.

:16:09. > :16:13.That was it. We quite enjoyed it. Another worker to find a husband

:16:13. > :16:23.was Kathleen Baynham. She has made her memoirs into a book. She had

:16:23. > :16:27.the crucial job of parachute maker. Every six weeks, the parachutes had

:16:27. > :16:33.to go and be aired. In a great hangar they would hang them for so

:16:33. > :16:40.many days. Then we would have to pack them up. It is not an easy job.

:16:40. > :16:43.It may be a far cry from the aircraft of 70 years ago but if the

:16:43. > :16:49.site is also known as the birthplace of the RAF search and

:17:05. > :17:08.manager Malky Mackay says the club are hoping to complete the signing

:17:08. > :17:11.of Kenny Miller by the end of the day. It's believed the Bluebirds

:17:11. > :17:15.have paid around 800,000 for the Scottish striker who's leaving

:17:15. > :17:25.Turkish side Bursaspor. The 31- year-old has passed his medical and

:17:25. > :17:29.the Cardiff manager feels he'll be a great addition to the club.

:17:29. > :17:34.are just waiting for the documentation for the transfer. He

:17:34. > :17:37.is a leader and is someone who is a proven goalscorer. He leads the

:17:37. > :17:40.line very well. Rugby. Wales forward Andy Powell

:17:40. > :17:43.has insisted he hasn't given up hope of making the World Cup

:17:43. > :17:46.despite being left out of the current training squad. While the

:17:46. > :17:56.Welsh squad are out in Poland, Powell has begun training with his

:18:03. > :18:11.new club Sale and says they are his Adam Powell was in the initial

:18:11. > :18:15.Wales World Cup squad but missed the cut when it was reduced. The

:18:15. > :18:23.number eight began this year as first choice for his country. After

:18:23. > :18:32.linking up with Sale, he says club now comes before country. If it

:18:32. > :18:40.does happen, it will be great. My focus now is playing for sale. I am

:18:40. > :18:44.still thinking about it but my main goal is the club. He started the

:18:44. > :18:50.last six nations that injuries then put him on the sidelines. It was

:18:50. > :18:57.very frustrating. They had been playing some of my best rugby since

:18:57. > :19:02.the Lions. I was out for six or eight weeks. Not thinking straight

:19:02. > :19:08.and not training after words. It puts you back a few places and it

:19:08. > :19:16.is very frustrating. These things happen, it is a professional game.

:19:16. > :19:22.After a high-profile incidents in a London pub, he says his final days

:19:22. > :19:27.at Wasps left him needing a fresh start. You can speculate, which the

:19:27. > :19:32.papers do very well, but I enjoyed my time there. I will not knock

:19:33. > :19:42.that. I played some Goodwood be there but looking forward to what

:19:42. > :19:46.lies ahead now. He will be hoping back-to-back matches against

:19:50. > :19:52.Next week marks a year to go until the London Olympics. On Wales Today,

:19:52. > :19:55.starting on Monday, we'll be beginning our countdown to the

:20:25. > :20:30.get her to this stage, they were repeating everything in to get to

:20:30. > :20:38.the last bit. I am still getting stroppy in training if it does not

:20:38. > :20:47.go right. By contrast to try to calm me down. I keep -- I hope I

:20:47. > :20:54.keep progressing at the right rate. It gives you goose bumps just

:20:54. > :21:01.thinking about it. The Olympics is the one I have not been to yet.

:21:01. > :21:07.This is anybody's dream. For that to come true, it is one of those

:21:07. > :21:11.one in a lifetime things. We will be returning to our athletes who

:21:11. > :21:19.have already achieved Olympic success. Where are they now? On

:21:19. > :21:24.Monday, he won silver in Beijing. He has given up the chance to

:21:43. > :21:46.to the Olympic Games with one ear to go.

:21:46. > :21:49.Yes, your Olympic countdown starts here all next week. One Welsh
