0:00:02 > 0:00:07Welcome to Wales Today. Tonight's top story: Threatened with losing

0:00:07 > 0:00:13her baby, a witness tells why in the original Lynette White murder

0:00:13 > 0:00:16trial, she changed evidence, which saw innocent men convicted.

0:00:17 > 0:00:21A growing problem down on the farm, the pack up machinery and fuel

0:00:21 > 0:00:31costing the Earth. It was unbelievable. Even the police said,

0:00:31 > 0:00:35this is a massive robbery. The value is between 40,000.50 1,000.

0:00:35 > 0:00:45Calling all dolphins, a major scientific study to count their

0:00:45 > 0:00:47

0:00:47 > 0:00:51numbers of our coast. In sport, what a start. Excitement

0:01:16 > 0:01:22Good evening. A witness has told a jury that at Detective said her

0:01:22 > 0:01:27baby would be taken from her and she changed her story during the

0:01:27 > 0:01:31Lynette White murder trial. Leanne Vilday's evidence, false evidence,

0:01:31 > 0:01:35helped to convict three innocent men in Cardiff for the murder in

0:01:35 > 0:01:391988. It former police officers deny conspiracy to pervert the

0:01:39 > 0:01:44course of justice. Leanne Vilday says she told lies because the

0:01:44 > 0:01:49police said her mixed-race baby would be taken into care and beaten

0:01:49 > 0:01:54up if she did not help them. Lynette White was murdered in the

0:01:54 > 0:01:59early hours of February 14th in 1988 had this flat in the docks

0:01:59 > 0:02:03area of Cardiff. The flat was being rented by another foster G --

0:02:03 > 0:02:08prostitute, Leanne Vilday, who had loaned the keys to Lynette to

0:02:08 > 0:02:12entertain clients. Today, the court was told she had made 16 statements

0:02:12 > 0:02:18to the police, maintaining the truth, that she knew nothing about

0:02:18 > 0:02:22the murder, even though it was her flat. But on December 6th, 1988 she

0:02:22 > 0:02:27was taken in again by police for questioning. She said the officers

0:02:27 > 0:02:31this time would different. She was taken into a room by Detective

0:02:31 > 0:02:34Inspector Mouncher. She said she was made to stand as Graham

0:02:34 > 0:02:38Mouncher shouted at her, saying they had a witness who could

0:02:38 > 0:02:41contradict her version of events and place her in the flat the night

0:02:41 > 0:02:46Lynette White was killed. The and Vilday told the court Inspector

0:02:46 > 0:02:49Nigel was at a man she was there and night. She said at this point,

0:02:49 > 0:02:55Graham Mack shirt pulled out a photograph of some mixed-race

0:02:55 > 0:02:58children who had beaten up in care. She said her son was mixed race and

0:02:58 > 0:03:04Graeme Archer had said to her that the same thing would happen to her

0:03:04 > 0:03:08baby, Craig. She said, at this point, I cracked and said, I was

0:03:08 > 0:03:14there that might look -- Lynette White was murdered. Leanne Vilday's

0:03:14 > 0:03:20statement would put the innocent men in jail. Steven Miller, Yussaf

0:03:20 > 0:03:24Abdullahi, and Tony Paris. They were convicted of murder in 1990

0:03:24 > 0:03:29and jailed for life. They were released in 1992 when the Court of

0:03:29 > 0:03:32Appeal quashed the convictions. Leanne Vilday also said that a she

0:03:32 > 0:03:36cracked, she had the sound of a party in another part of the police

0:03:36 > 0:03:39station. She had champagne corks being popped and the sound of

0:03:39 > 0:03:45cheering. She said it was as if they knew they were going to crack

0:03:45 > 0:03:47the case that night. Eight former officers involved in the

0:03:47 > 0:03:51investigation in 1988 are accused of conspiracy to pervert the course

0:03:51 > 0:03:56of justice. Two witnesses to give evidence are also charged with

0:03:56 > 0:04:02perjury. They have all pleaded guilty and the trial continues.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04Thieves targeting rural areas of Wales still around 1.7 million of

0:04:04 > 0:04:10farming equipment last year, according to a survey from an

0:04:10 > 0:04:14insurance firm which says criminals are most likely to strike at night.

0:04:14 > 0:04:24Machinery and oil are their main targets.

0:04:24 > 0:04:24

0:04:24 > 0:04:29Richard Isaac is a former. He knows only too well how theft can destroy

0:04:29 > 0:04:35a one's live there had. -- Pharma. Two years ago, his farm was raided

0:04:35 > 0:04:39and he lost virtually everything. They took my Land Rover, my trailer,

0:04:39 > 0:04:44they took the inside panels out of the train will -- trailer to make

0:04:44 > 0:04:50more room so they could get more equipment in the air. They took our

0:04:50 > 0:04:58quad bike, they took my grandson's trials bike, which was locked up in

0:04:58 > 0:05:05a steel container. Even the police said, this is a massive robbery.

0:05:05 > 0:05:10And the value was good -- the value was up to 50,000. His case is not

0:05:10 > 0:05:14isolated. According to figures, nearly 1.7 million worth of farm

0:05:15 > 0:05:18equipment was stolen from Wales last year and it is on the rise.

0:05:18 > 0:05:22The insurance company was carried out the survey said nearly two-

0:05:22 > 0:05:26thirds of its branches reported an increase in claims over the same

0:05:26 > 0:05:33period and as in Richard's case, most of these thefts happened after

0:05:33 > 0:05:37dark. It also said role areas are particularly difficult to police. -

0:05:37 > 0:05:42- role. That is because sparsely- populated areas make it easier for

0:05:42 > 0:05:49criminals to get away without being seen. And because attitude to

0:05:49 > 0:05:55security tend to be more relaxed in the countryside. -- attitudes. I

0:05:55 > 0:05:57have been to farms where an incident has happened, and the car

0:05:57 > 0:06:01keys were left in the vehicle or the front door was not locked,

0:06:01 > 0:06:07because that is the way they are used to. When you try to explain a

0:06:07 > 0:06:10genie to be more vigilant, it is very hard for them to suddenly

0:06:10 > 0:06:14change the way that they lead and have lived for a long time. Here in

0:06:14 > 0:06:19Wales, it is the smaller items that had the most vulnerable to theft.

0:06:19 > 0:06:24The most targeted are tools, followed by a quad bikes, then oil

0:06:24 > 0:06:33and diesel. But nothing appears off-limits, with tractors and even

0:06:33 > 0:06:39animals being reported stolen. is having a devastating effect, it

0:06:39 > 0:06:42has a deep social knock-on effect. People many times, when the

0:06:42 > 0:06:50experience their first burglary, the field their privacy has been

0:06:50 > 0:06:53intruded upon. -- they feel. police and the insurance companies

0:06:53 > 0:06:58stress vigilant when it comes to fighting rural crime. They

0:06:58 > 0:07:04recommend making outbuildings more secure or and marking property so

0:07:04 > 0:07:07it can be traced more easily if it is stolen. -- more Secure.

0:07:07 > 0:07:12Welsh football let Ched Evans has appeared in court charged with rape.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16He was arrested in Rhyl in May, he appears -- he appeared at Prestatyn

0:07:16 > 0:07:20magistrates' court and was released on conditional bail. He denies the

0:07:20 > 0:07:25charge. The family of a 21-year-old woman

0:07:25 > 0:07:30who died in a car crash on the Llyn Peninsula have paid tribute to her.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33Mr MacKenzie was driving home from a family dinner when the accident

0:07:33 > 0:07:38happened near the village of Penrhos. She was a twin and her

0:07:38 > 0:07:42father said and -- she made her family extremely proud.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45Cardigan Bay has the largest population of bottlenose dolphins

0:07:45 > 0:07:51in the UK and today it is the start of a survey to discover exactly how

0:07:51 > 0:07:56many are living off the Welsh coast. As a tourist attraction they are

0:07:56 > 0:07:59becoming increasingly important to the economy.

0:07:59 > 0:08:03Schools of dolphins playing in waters off the Welsh coast. But

0:08:03 > 0:08:06just how many of them are there, and are their numbers on the

0:08:07 > 0:08:13rights? Those are just two of the questions the Sea Watch Foundation

0:08:13 > 0:08:21is hoping to answer the summer. Pollok Edmond is one of those

0:08:21 > 0:08:26working on the annual survey. -- Pollok. She was out gathering data.

0:08:26 > 0:08:30They're one of the biggest populations year. We keep an eye on

0:08:30 > 0:08:34things because if it's anything changes, it could indicate that

0:08:34 > 0:08:39other things are going on and other species are having problems, they

0:08:39 > 0:08:43are a good indicator of what is going on in the waters. Surveys

0:08:43 > 0:08:48like this one give an insight into how did dolphins are using the

0:08:48 > 0:08:52water and tell us how they are interacting with boats. 10% of

0:08:52 > 0:08:56vessels failed to comply with the county's marine code, but when

0:08:56 > 0:09:01boats to abide by the rules, dolphins are more likely to stay in

0:09:01 > 0:09:05the area. Cardigan Bay is home to the largest population of bottle-

0:09:05 > 0:09:10nosed dolphins on the UK coast with over 260 dolphins living in the

0:09:10 > 0:09:16area. Today, we have not seen a single one. It was a different

0:09:16 > 0:09:19story here yesterday afternoon has visitors tried to get space on New

0:09:19 > 0:09:23Quay appear to watch the dolphins in action. Holidaymakers were not

0:09:23 > 0:09:29the only ones pleased to see them. Local businesses thrive on dolphins

0:09:29 > 0:09:33sightings. It is the best thing to happen to New Quay. They are here

0:09:33 > 0:09:38all the time, people come down here year after year just to seek the

0:09:38 > 0:09:43dolphins. Sometimes they do make a show. There were a few signs of

0:09:43 > 0:09:46life of the coast of Cardigan Bay this afternoon, but the dolphins

0:09:46 > 0:09:50were nowhere to be seen. Tourists and business owners alike will be

0:09:50 > 0:09:55hoping it is not long until the dolphins are back.

0:09:56 > 0:10:00We go live to New Quay now, German Davis is there.

0:10:00 > 0:10:04Thank you, and guess what? The dolphins are indeed back. They

0:10:04 > 0:10:08turned up here a couple of hours ago. Since then, people have been

0:10:08 > 0:10:13gathering here, hoping to catch a glimpse of the mother dolphins and

0:10:13 > 0:10:17her calf. Let us have a pop up again in a couple of minutes. Also

0:10:17 > 0:10:20joining me is Danielle from the Sea Watch Foundation. We heard there

0:10:20 > 0:10:26are more bottlenose dolphins here than anywhere else in the UK. What

0:10:26 > 0:10:35draws them to this part of the World? Cardigan Bay is a really

0:10:35 > 0:10:39nice, sheltered day. Not too many strong currents. And there is a lot

0:10:39 > 0:10:49of feed for deeper dwelling species. But the bottlenose dolphins are mad

0:10:49 > 0:10:49

0:10:49 > 0:10:54the biggest populations in the UK. -- among the biggest. It is early

0:10:54 > 0:10:57days yet, but you have been working here for years now. Have any

0:10:58 > 0:11:03patterns emerged over that period? Not really, but that is a good

0:11:03 > 0:11:07thing because the population is very healthy. We used a technique

0:11:07 > 0:11:11called photo ID, when we take photographs of the fines of the

0:11:11 > 0:11:16animal, and up the backside of each in, there are notches and scratches,

0:11:16 > 0:11:21which used like a fingerprint. We have 260 of these animals that have

0:11:21 > 0:11:26been identified. There are lots of newborn calves this year. The

0:11:26 > 0:11:33numbers are very stable. And as part of the survey, you also hope

0:11:33 > 0:11:37members of the public and fishermen can help you out? Absolutely. I

0:11:37 > 0:11:42manage the database and the last members of the public to report any

0:11:42 > 0:11:47sightings of dolphins, whales or porpoises. So if people who work on

0:11:47 > 0:11:53or around the water can report any sightings to me, I need a location,

0:11:53 > 0:11:57date and the number of animals and I will work out the species

0:11:57 > 0:12:03identification. This goes into a UK wide database. It is very useful if

0:12:03 > 0:12:09I can get this help. Good luck with the survey. From us in New Quay,

0:12:09 > 0:12:14including the dolphins, back to you. They are behind you!

0:12:14 > 0:12:24Much more to come before seven o'clock, including the Pilgrims

0:12:24 > 0:12:28walking the holy sites of North Wales, all 127 miles.

0:12:28 > 0:12:31First, Anglesey council has insisted it is dealing with serious

0:12:31 > 0:12:35shortcomings in the provision of services to vulnerable children.

0:12:35 > 0:12:38The report by the care and social services inspectorate Wales said

0:12:38 > 0:12:45assessments were delayed, care management was poor, and staff

0:12:45 > 0:12:53morale was low. John Stevenson is at the Council's headquarters in

0:12:53 > 0:12:56Llangefni. John, why is the council been criticised?

0:12:56 > 0:13:01Essentially, there is a legal obligation on every local authority

0:13:01 > 0:13:05in Wales, throughout the UK indeed, to provide services to protect

0:13:05 > 0:13:09vulnerable children. This report insists they are as you say,

0:13:09 > 0:13:14serious shortcomings in the way this council exercises that legal

0:13:14 > 0:13:17obligation. We are not talking about street collection were

0:13:17 > 0:13:21surfacing of highways, we are talking about the provision of

0:13:22 > 0:13:28services -- services to some of the most vulnerable people in the

0:13:28 > 0:13:32community. The report highlights and insists the quality of those

0:13:32 > 0:13:36services, the standards are what it describes as poor.

0:13:36 > 0:13:40Anglesey Cancer has been criticised in the past, what is different

0:13:40 > 0:13:44about this one? -- council. Off what characterises those

0:13:44 > 0:13:49previous reports over the years is that they have concentrated on the

0:13:49 > 0:13:55political infighting. Councillors fighting like ferrets in a sack.

0:13:55 > 0:13:59There has always been an emphasis that the quality of service is

0:14:00 > 0:14:04provided by Anglesey his second to none. -- services provided. This

0:14:04 > 0:14:08report insists that in this particular area, there are serious

0:14:08 > 0:14:18shortcomings. There is a marked difference in the nature and the

0:14:18 > 0:14:21

0:14:21 > 0:14:26Wrexham Football Club are facing a big deadline tonight. Have they

0:14:26 > 0:14:29made it? Wrexham Football Club say they have

0:14:29 > 0:14:31done all that was required, they assembled all the information and

0:14:31 > 0:14:34replied by this afternoon's 5pm deadline. Last Friday, the club

0:14:34 > 0:14:36received a letter from the Football Conference Board, demanding

0:14:36 > 0:14:39confirmation of their status and proof they have enough financial

0:14:39 > 0:14:43backing for this season. The club has told us they have supplied all

0:14:43 > 0:14:46the criteria that was asked for and are now awaiting a response. The

0:14:46 > 0:14:49Dragons are due to start their season at home to Cambridge on

0:14:49 > 0:14:52Saturday. The new football season is only a

0:14:52 > 0:14:55few days old, but attention is already turning to the

0:14:55 > 0:14:58international game. The Wales squad met up today to prepare for

0:14:58 > 0:15:02Wednesday's friendly against Australia. They arrived to hear the

0:15:02 > 0:15:06news that they will be facing their old manager, John Toshack, in the

0:15:06 > 0:15:102014 World Cup qualifiers. He is the new man in charge of Group A

0:15:10 > 0:15:13rivals Macedonia. He is already a well-travelled

0:15:13 > 0:15:19manager, but now John Toshack can add "national coach of Macedonia"

0:15:19 > 0:15:23to his lengthy CV. He accepted the job over the weekend, 11 months

0:15:23 > 0:15:27after resigning from his post with Wales. Inevitably, in the way these

0:15:27 > 0:15:35things so often work, Toshack will be on his way back to Wales shortly,

0:15:35 > 0:15:38bringing his new team over for a World Cup qualifier. Macedonia, who

0:15:38 > 0:15:42are ranked 96th in the world, have been drawn in the same qualifying

0:15:42 > 0:15:48group as Wales, and the two will now meet home and away as they try

0:15:48 > 0:15:53to qualify for Brazil 2014. We will know exactly what he is steering,

0:15:53 > 0:15:57exactly how he works, and that might be a good thing for us. They

0:15:57 > 0:16:04will be the same as all of the teams in the rest of the group. We

0:16:04 > 0:16:09are going to try to beat them, and there will not be any love lost,

0:16:09 > 0:16:11there will be no favours from us. We are going to look after Wales.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14Meanwhile, Cardiff City's new manager, Malky Mackay, got off to a

0:16:14 > 0:16:15flying start in his first flying start in his first

0:16:15 > 0:16:17competitive match in charge. The Bluebirds weathered a storm in

0:16:17 > 0:16:20every sense at Championship favourites West Ham, before

0:16:20 > 0:16:30snatching a shock late winner which even seemed to surprise Radio

0:16:30 > 0:16:31

0:16:31 > 0:16:40Wales' commentator Rob Phillips. Into the penalty area! He scores!

0:16:40 > 0:16:46Kenny Miller are! It is a vital winner for The Bluebirds in the

0:16:46 > 0:16:53dying seconds! When you come to a new club it is

0:16:53 > 0:16:57important to get off the mark early, or at best said before a point

0:16:57 > 0:17:02would have been a good result at Upton Park, but this is a dream

0:17:02 > 0:17:06start for us. It takes time for people to get to know each other,

0:17:06 > 0:17:13but there think the work they put in today was exceptional and that

0:17:13 > 0:17:16times of football we played was Elsewhere, with their Premier

0:17:16 > 0:17:19League debut just a week away, Swansea City are poised to bid for

0:17:19 > 0:17:22the Liverpool defender Daniel Ayala, although Hull City have already had

0:17:22 > 0:17:25a bid accepted for the player. More sport a little later, looking

0:17:25 > 0:17:28back at the weekend's rugby and forward to the game this Saturday.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30We will be getting the thoughts of former Wales international John

0:17:30 > 0:17:33Devereux. The potential of pharmacies to ease

0:17:33 > 0:17:35the burden on Wales' NHS is not being fully exploited. That is

0:17:35 > 0:17:38according to Welsh Conservatives. They say none of Wales' community

0:17:38 > 0:17:40pharmacies offer tests for blood pressure and cholesterol, with just

0:17:40 > 0:17:481% providing support for alcohol misuse, and only 2% offering weight

0:17:48 > 0:17:52management services. The Welsh Government says they are committed

0:17:52 > 0:17:55to increasing the services pharmacists provide.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58The waiting list for an allotment in Wales shows no sign of getting

0:17:58 > 0:18:03any shorter. That is according to the National Society of Allotment

0:18:03 > 0:18:06and Leisure Gardeners, who say 4000 people are still waiting. In June,

0:18:06 > 0:18:09First Minister Carwyn Jones set out plans to ensure a minimum standard

0:18:09 > 0:18:12for the amount of land Welsh councils should devote to

0:18:12 > 0:18:16allotments. But the Society says there must be more emphasis on

0:18:16 > 0:18:19provision. They are walking in the footsteps

0:18:20 > 0:18:22of ancient pilgrims. A group of people are journeying across north

0:18:22 > 0:18:27Wales, stopping at sites of religious and historical importance,

0:18:27 > 0:18:30as part of a unique trail. The route, from Basingwerk Abbey in

0:18:30 > 0:18:33Flintshire to Bardsey Island, joins up churches, abbeys and monuments

0:18:33 > 0:18:43for the first time. The inaugural trip covers 127 miles and is due to

0:18:43 > 0:18:46

0:18:46 > 0:18:48take 11 days. Support them as they walk the

0:18:48 > 0:18:51pilgrim way in your light and your presence...

0:18:51 > 0:18:54Pilgrims have been making their way to religious sites for thousands of

0:18:54 > 0:18:57years, but it is only now that those on a spiritual journey can

0:18:57 > 0:19:00follow a route which takes them right across north Wales. Beginning

0:19:00 > 0:19:03at Basingwerk Abbey in Holywell yesterday, the walk includes sites

0:19:03 > 0:19:07connected with St Winifrede and St Beuno. Day two, and the pilgrims

0:19:07 > 0:19:12have progressed to a monument in Whitford. Made the road rises up to

0:19:12 > 0:19:17meet you, made the wind be always at your back, may the sunshine upon

0:19:17 > 0:19:20your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields. Chris Potter, the dean

0:19:20 > 0:19:24of St Asaph Cathedral, and his wife were inspired to create the trail

0:19:24 > 0:19:27by a trip to Spain's Camino de Santiago, or Way of St James, which

0:19:27 > 0:19:31leads Christians to where the saint is said to be buried. It was a

0:19:31 > 0:19:34journey of self-discovery, and a journey in which you put everything

0:19:34 > 0:19:39else aside. You just have to concentrate on getting there, on

0:19:39 > 0:19:43the physical side of it. You are emptied of absolutely everything,

0:19:43 > 0:19:46and that thing that is what the beauty of it is, it is a kind of

0:19:46 > 0:19:49energetic meditation. Around 20 people are expected to complete

0:19:49 > 0:19:52every step of the trail through St Asaph, Bangor and Caernarfon,

0:19:52 > 0:19:58ending up on Bardsey Island. Although the stops along the way

0:19:58 > 0:20:02are hardly new, the trail joining these points certainly is, which is

0:20:02 > 0:20:05why the pilgrims are way marking each of the stops so others can

0:20:05 > 0:20:08follow in their path. The route has been drawn up by a committee

0:20:08 > 0:20:12including regular ramblers who have noticed a more spiritual side to

0:20:12 > 0:20:18this long stroll. We think we have developed a wonderful route, and

0:20:18 > 0:20:23while that, as we get further west, is very much big sky country where

0:20:23 > 0:20:26people can get lost in their own thoughts and look around and see

0:20:26 > 0:20:29what is going. The group is keen to welcome walkers for day-long

0:20:29 > 0:20:32stretches or even the whole route, as they take steps along a

0:20:32 > 0:20:37righteous path. Wales' full-back Morgan Stoddart

0:20:37 > 0:20:40has undergone surgery for the broken leg he suffered on Saturday.

0:20:40 > 0:20:47Despite that huge blow, some better news today for Warren Gatland on

0:20:47 > 0:20:50the injury front. James Hook, Lee Byrne and Adam Jones are all back

0:20:50 > 0:20:55and available for selection this Saturday against England. But Wales

0:20:55 > 0:21:00are still waiting on the fitness of Stephen Jones and Matthew Rees, and

0:21:00 > 0:21:03are keeping a close eye on Gethin Jenkins.

0:21:03 > 0:21:08I imagine you will see a few changes from both sets of

0:21:08 > 0:21:14management this weekend as they use different combinations, and give

0:21:14 > 0:21:18the boys some precious game time. It becomes paramount now that you

0:21:18 > 0:21:22get some rugby under your belt. Joining me on the sofa, former

0:21:23 > 0:21:27Wales international, John Devereux. Ryan Jones saying everybody wants

0:21:27 > 0:21:31to play, those who did not play on Saturday despite for a chance this

0:21:31 > 0:21:37weekend? And things so, and the same with the British Lions, raring

0:21:37 > 0:21:41to go. They want to play against England, it is so important to play

0:21:42 > 0:21:46in Matt Damon get a win to go into the Argentine again. On Saturday,

0:21:46 > 0:21:52three tries, what were the politics for you and who booked a place on

0:21:52 > 0:21:56the plane? There were lots of positives. Stephen Jones went out

0:21:56 > 0:22:01early in my game, which was hard, and Morgan Stoddart got injured,

0:22:01 > 0:22:06but people like George North, Rhys Priestland coming in for George

0:22:06 > 0:22:10North did well. Jamie Roberts back to his old self, Mike Phillips,

0:22:10 > 0:22:16Ryan Jones as well coming on. Lots of politics, defence was good,

0:22:16 > 0:22:22fitness levels are fantastic. I think there were three well-worked

0:22:22 > 0:22:26try is, showed a lot of discipline and patience. Would you make

0:22:26 > 0:22:32changes on Saturday? I think England have got to make changes,

0:22:32 > 0:22:37so we should look at bringing the big guns in, I suppose. Rhys

0:22:37 > 0:22:42Priestland has put his hand up, but the likes of Lee Byrne, Gethin

0:22:42 > 0:22:46Jenkins and Adam Jones aren't players who could stiffen up the

0:22:46 > 0:22:52front right. We were under pressure there, so it is an area where we

0:22:52 > 0:22:56could improve. Get the ball into the hands of George North and Shane

0:22:56 > 0:23:01Williams, they are immense. important is a win for the mental

0:23:01 > 0:23:06stamina? We did well on Saturday but it was a loss. What would a win

0:23:06 > 0:23:12mean before they head off to New Zealand? Full confidence, to go

0:23:12 > 0:23:16into the World Cup, we need to win. 17 games, four wins, it is not

0:23:17 > 0:23:20great. We need more going into the World Cup. It is difficult, the

0:23:20 > 0:23:24boys are rusty, these are the first couple of games this season, but

0:23:24 > 0:23:30they have been training hard and off it, I am sure they are raring

0:23:30 > 0:23:33to get. Thank you. 11 months to go, Welsh athletes are

0:23:33 > 0:23:36amongst the first to be selected for the London games. Paralympic

0:23:36 > 0:23:38sailor Stevie Thomas from Bridgend and his three-man Sonar team will

0:23:39 > 0:23:42be part of Team GB. And a fantastic win for Helen

0:23:42 > 0:23:44Jenkins at the weekend means she is the first Welsh athlete to meet the

0:23:44 > 0:23:47qualifying criteria for the Olympics. The 27-year-old won the

0:23:47 > 0:23:53women's Hyde Park triathlon at the weekend, on the course expected to

0:23:53 > 0:23:58be the exact one for the London Games.

0:23:58 > 0:24:05It hurt so much! Normally when you win, you are like, yes, it was easy,

0:24:05 > 0:24:12but that hurt. The bike was easy, and then I was at the front, so I

0:24:13 > 0:24:19kept running. The last 20 seconds, I thought, if I blow what I am

0:24:19 > 0:24:23going to lose! I had to keep going Triathletes like Helen enjoy a bit

0:24:23 > 0:24:27of rain. But the rest of us would like some summer sun, Behnaz.

0:24:27 > 0:24:33You can habit for the day tomorrow! Let's have a look at a live scene

0:24:33 > 0:24:37in New Quay this evening. Quite breezy there, showers on and off.

0:24:37 > 0:24:41Tomorrow hopefully you can look forward to a bit more sunshine.

0:24:41 > 0:24:45Showers should start to ease this evening but there are a few heavy

0:24:45 > 0:24:51ones scattered at the moment, especially across parts of mid-

0:24:51 > 0:24:59Wales. Overnight, becoming dry, we will see some clear spells

0:24:59 > 0:25:03developing and a cool might for August. As for the winds, lighter

0:25:03 > 0:25:07than this morning and this afternoon, but still noticeable on

0:25:07 > 0:25:11the north-west coast. High-pressure building tomorrow from the south-

0:25:11 > 0:25:15west, settled conditions heading our way but just for the day, as we

0:25:15 > 0:25:19have low-pressure in the Atlantic which will bring more unsettled

0:25:19 > 0:25:23weather on Wednesday and Thursday. Tomorrow morning, a few showers

0:25:23 > 0:25:28dotted around the north, which will ease as we go into the afternoon,

0:25:28 > 0:25:31then plenty of bright and sunny spells developing with highs of

0:25:31 > 0:25:35around 19 Celsius. As for the winds, they should be lighter than today

0:25:35 > 0:25:39but still noticeable along the north-west coast. A warning in

0:25:39 > 0:25:45force at the moment for heavy rain across the north-west on Wednesday

0:25:45 > 0:25:48and Thursday. We will keep the mum that over the next few days, but on

0:25:48 > 0:25:53Wednesday the heaviest rain across the north-west, elsewhere wet and

0:25:53 > 0:25:58windy, but as we go through the day, had fully, the rain should ease off.

0:25:58 > 0:26:02Not a pleasant day to be out and about. On Thursday, more wet and

0:26:02 > 0:26:10windy weather, but there are hints that the weather will get warmer

0:26:10 > 0:26:14towards the end of the week, but by no means wall-to-wall sunshine.

0:26:14 > 0:26:19Today's picture was taken yesterday at three clicks Bay, showing a

0:26:19 > 0:26:29waterspout out at the sea. A beautiful picture, thank you for

0:26:29 > 0:26:29

0:26:29 > 0:26:32Enjoy the sunshine tomorrow, it is It is almost 7pm, the headlines

0:26:32 > 0:26:35from the BBC. More violence has broken out on the

0:26:35 > 0:26:38streets of London this evening. In Hackney, police in riot gear are

0:26:38 > 0:26:41being attacked with stones and missiles. And shops and businesses

0:26:41 > 0:26:50are being looted. Extra police are being deployed in the capital to

0:26:50 > 0:26:56try to quell the trouble that began in Tottenham on Saturday.

0:26:56 > 0:26:59There is no excuse for thuggery. The police will deal with any

0:26:59 > 0:27:03emerging situations as they consider best appropriate for those

0:27:03 > 0:27:08situations but I am clear there is no excuse for looters, thuggery or

0:27:08 > 0:27:11violence on the streets. Let me bring you the latest live

0:27:11 > 0:27:17pictures from Lewisham in south London, vehicles being set alight

0:27:17 > 0:27:21as police are trying to deal with unrest there, too. The Home

0:27:21 > 0:27:26Secretary, Theresa May, has just returned from her holiday and says

0:27:26 > 0:27:32the actions of the looters are about Shia criminality. Much more,

0:27:32 > 0:27:35of course, on this story on FE BBC News Channel throughout the course

0:27:35 > 0:27:38of this evening. We will have an update for you here
