:00:08. > :00:13.Welcome to Wales Today. Tonight's top story... A bank worker is

:00:13. > :00:19.jailed after stealing 160,000 from customers. She knew many of them

:00:20. > :00:26.personally. Very unexpected. He would never have thought that

:00:26. > :00:36.somebody like her would touch anybody's money. -- you would never

:00:36. > :00:40.

:00:40. > :00:43.Good evening. Also tonight, the family a TV cameraman Gareth

:00:43. > :00:49.Montgomery-Johnson are concerned for his welfare after he is

:00:49. > :00:52.arrested in Libya. Students that it spent thousands on their education

:00:52. > :00:57.tell us why they are concerned day University of Wales degrees might

:00:57. > :01:07.not appear. Good evening from London on the eve of a monster

:01:07. > :01:08.

:01:08. > :01:15.weekend for Welsh sport. The supporters are already on their way.

:01:15. > :01:19.Many left this morning for the Triple Crown showdown. Red turns

:01:19. > :01:26.blue on Sunday. Cardiff City head to London aiming for silverware in

:01:26. > :01:32.the shape of the Carling Cup. fans are behind us. We hope that

:01:32. > :01:42.they are going to do well. We are here to make history. And the weigh

:01:42. > :01:47.

:01:47. > :01:51.in is over. Our world boxing champ A bank worker that stole more than

:01:51. > :01:57.160,000 from customers at a branch where she worked has been sentenced

:01:57. > :02:01.to 2.5 years in prison. Gaynor Russ was also a church warden and

:02:01. > :02:07.hoodwink many elderly and vulnerable people, all of whom

:02:07. > :02:12.trusted her completely. 59-year-old Gaynor Russ arrived in court this

:02:12. > :02:16.morning expecting a jail sentence. A family bomber, churchwarden and

:02:16. > :02:23.respected member of the community but for years, she had stolen from

:02:23. > :02:31.Barbara or clients, many of whom she knew personally. -- many

:02:31. > :02:38.clients. She took money of myself and my parents. They are both very

:02:38. > :02:44.elderly. That really upset me. That she took the money of my parents

:02:44. > :02:49.and myself. She worked at Barclays for 40 years. She was a counter

:02:49. > :02:54.manager, a position she used to her advantage. She moved money in and

:02:54. > :02:58.out of accounts to cover her tracks. Barclays have refunded the money

:02:58. > :03:04.but it is estimated she took more than 160,000 out of the accounts

:03:04. > :03:09.she handled. Michael Thompson said she took more than 23,000 from his

:03:09. > :03:17.father's account and he found out when the fraud team contacted him

:03:17. > :03:23.bus-stop she has taken --. She has taken a lot of money off him. He

:03:23. > :03:27.could hardly walk and had emphysema. I used to go to the bank and we

:03:27. > :03:32.trusted Gaynor Russ. I never asked for a statement because I trusted

:03:32. > :03:38.her. She said she took money because of a credit card debt but

:03:38. > :03:43.could not say how it had been spent. The judge said that an aggravating

:03:43. > :03:47.feature of the offences was that almost all the victims were

:03:47. > :03:53.vulnerable or elderly. They felt personally betrayed by you. They

:03:53. > :03:58.trusted you, the judge said. She pleaded guilty to 13 charges and

:03:58. > :04:02.was sentenced to 2.5 years and will serve half that time in jail. Her

:04:02. > :04:06.lawyer said she was tortured by what she had done and wanted to

:04:06. > :04:10.apologise to everybody she had betrayed. A cameraman from

:04:10. > :04:15.Carmarthen has been arrested in Libya. Gareth Montgomery-Johnson

:04:15. > :04:22.works for Press TV, the English news channel on Iranian television.

:04:22. > :04:28.He was detained on Tuesday and his sister is concern for his welfare.

:04:28. > :04:33.Here is our correspondent. family found out about this this

:04:33. > :04:38.morning to. He is from Carmarthen but has been working in Libya since

:04:38. > :04:43.last year. He is a cameraman and what the channel have told us is

:04:43. > :04:50.that on Tuesday Gareth and a colleague, a reporter, were seized

:04:50. > :04:54.in Libya. They were apparently seized by a brigade which is one of

:04:54. > :04:58.the forces involved in toppling Colonel Gaddafi. They have been

:04:58. > :05:04.taken to Tripoli but what we do not understand is the detail as to

:05:04. > :05:09.where they are being held. As a result, I have been talking to his

:05:09. > :05:16.sister and she of course is very concerned for his welfare. She is

:05:16. > :05:22.concern for his whereabouts and welfare. We found out that it was

:05:22. > :05:29.in fact this morning. We could easily slip into getting upset but

:05:29. > :05:33.he has got a job to do, to try and find out what the information is.

:05:33. > :05:39.We want to sort the situation out and we will continue to try and

:05:39. > :05:45.keep some semblance of normality. We are trying to get through the

:05:45. > :05:51.day and that is how it is. We are trying not to let the brain or

:05:51. > :05:56.wander. We are trying not to think too much about the position he is

:05:57. > :06:02.in because you become paralysed. Tensions in Libya are very well

:06:02. > :06:07.known and he must have been aware of the risks. She thought Gareth

:06:07. > :06:14.was well aware of the dangers. She absolutely understood that he loved

:06:14. > :06:20.the job but that it was a very dangerous every day. I have no

:06:20. > :06:25.doubt that he puts his heart and soul into everything that he does.

:06:25. > :06:31.He is going over and above the call of duty in his quest for trying to

:06:31. > :06:40.report what he sees as a newsworthy. He is trying to illustrate to

:06:40. > :06:44.people what is going on to. He was aware of the danger. The family

:06:44. > :06:47.have tried to understand as best they can and tried to illustrate

:06:47. > :06:55.what the risks were but he understood that full well and that

:06:55. > :06:58.is what he wanted to do and he has done it. The Foreign Office has

:06:58. > :07:04.said two British nationals have been detained and that the British

:07:04. > :07:08.Embassy is looking into doing everything it can to find out more.

:07:08. > :07:11.BBC Wales has discovered evidence of problems in the relationship

:07:11. > :07:16.between the University of Wales and other colleges which validates its

:07:16. > :07:18.degrees. Students at Birmingham Graduate School, which offers

:07:18. > :07:22.University of Wales courses have said they are concerned they will

:07:22. > :07:29.not get their degrees because of a financial dispute between the

:07:29. > :07:33.institutions. This is Birmingham Graduate School. The offices are

:07:34. > :07:38.above a row of shops. Students from across the world travel here to

:07:38. > :07:43.study. Many have gone to the University of Wales validated it

:07:43. > :07:48.MBA courses. BBC Wales has been contacted and told that despite

:07:48. > :07:53.completing courses at a cost of more than 3,000, several students

:07:53. > :07:57.had not received their degree. We have seen documentary evidence from

:07:57. > :08:02.the University of Wales Validation unit that they will not issue any

:08:02. > :08:09.certificates or confirmation letters until the students have

:08:09. > :08:19.cleared their debt. I have paid money and satisfied everything. I

:08:19. > :08:29.

:08:29. > :08:33.In a statement online it reassure students that they will eventually

:08:33. > :08:38.get their certificates and that they will keep in touch with the

:08:38. > :08:40.University of Wales. But students have said that reassurance is not

:08:40. > :08:50.enough and they will not be happy until they have received their

:08:50. > :09:01.

:09:01. > :09:04.In a statement, the university told us that details of all the

:09:04. > :09:09.Validation agreements with part- time colleges, including the

:09:09. > :09:14.payment of fees are confidential and commercially sensitive. It says

:09:14. > :09:17.it has a duty of care to provide results and certificates to

:09:17. > :09:21.students that successfully complete programmes of study but that

:09:21. > :09:27.issuing certificates is governed by the contract between the university

:09:27. > :09:31.and the centre. Two previous investigations by the BBC uncovered

:09:31. > :09:36.serious problems at a number of the University's part time -- partner

:09:36. > :09:43.colleges. A scam was exposed in which students were offered help to

:09:43. > :09:47.cheat their way into University of Wales degrees. Last October, the

:09:47. > :09:51.University of Wales announced it would stop validating courses at

:09:51. > :09:56.all other institutions in the UK and abroad but would honour

:09:56. > :10:01.existing commitments. In future it will only award courses that it

:10:01. > :10:05.fully controls. In September it will be branded again as a merger

:10:05. > :10:09.between St David and Swansea Metropolitan University. Students

:10:09. > :10:14.will receive University of Wales and Trinity St David degrees

:10:14. > :10:18.instead. But for these students, the future remains uncertain and

:10:18. > :10:22.they just want prooved they have completed their course. The Wells

:10:22. > :10:31.government is pushing for it Bath for years back it was advised not

:10:31. > :10:34.to merge South well as universities. A report describes plans to merge

:10:34. > :10:38.the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales and other

:10:38. > :10:43.institutions as unrealistic. The government said the report was

:10:43. > :10:47.produced when the situation facing higher education was very different.

:10:47. > :10:52.The Welsh teaching union UCAC has decided to reject the pension offer

:10:52. > :10:56.at a meeting in Aberystwyth. They said the government offer is not

:10:56. > :11:01.acceptable and warns that the option of further strikes is opened.

:11:01. > :11:05.The government says it is a good and fair deal. Seven more children

:11:05. > :11:12.have been diagnosed with measles in Porthmadog, bringing the total

:11:12. > :11:18.number of cases to 19, 17 of them at this school. Parents are urged

:11:18. > :11:26.to get vaccinations. The infected students either had no jabs or just

:11:26. > :11:34.one dense. If he won a sports fan, he will not be so -- short changed.

:11:34. > :11:38.We have got the Six Nations showdown. Welcome to Twickenham.

:11:38. > :11:44.This is where it all starts tomorrow at. It will be a feast of

:11:44. > :11:48.Welsh sport would rugby, football and boxing. It will be a packed 48

:11:48. > :11:52.hours but it starts here at the home of English rugby as Wales

:11:52. > :11:57.attempt the Triple Crown. Twickenham is looking spick and

:11:57. > :12:01.span and we have just got a few final preparations. The goal posts

:12:01. > :12:08.are up and we are ready for take- off. Both teams have been here just

:12:08. > :12:16.to get a feel of the ground and make sure they are 100 % ready. The

:12:16. > :12:20.supporters have been arriving and Arkin very good spirits. Wales have

:12:20. > :12:29.never won a Triple Crown on English soil but both fans feel that might

:12:29. > :12:36.The match might be less than 24 hours away but supporters were

:12:36. > :12:41.already in fine voice and setting off for the trip. An early start

:12:41. > :12:47.but it is all about the build up. His support the group was formed

:12:47. > :12:52.back in the 1950s and a relish the route to Twickenham. I came back

:12:52. > :12:58.from here to London and enjoyed the game and came back again and again.

:12:58. > :13:03.It is a long way away but it has been formalised. I think we should

:13:03. > :13:13.be confident. It is a game we can certainly win and we hope that we

:13:13. > :13:13.

:13:13. > :13:55.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:13:55. > :13:59.will. They are few and far between England have made four changes from

:14:00. > :14:03.the win over Italy - or when Farrell will start at fly half for

:14:03. > :14:08.the first time. They say Wales are there for right challenge for them

:14:08. > :14:15.at just the right time. We will just go out there and focus on

:14:15. > :14:19.beating Wales. They are coming down to do the same thing. It will be an

:14:19. > :14:23.exciting game. There is no escape from the Welsh

:14:23. > :14:30.fans. At this Popat the flags are out and they are expecting a great

:14:31. > :14:35.atmosphere. -- at this pop. We will have the greatest party in the

:14:35. > :14:40.world. Sadly, I think Wales will win. But at least 15.

:14:40. > :14:44.Wales have beat on their confidence from the World Cup this Six Nations

:14:44. > :14:48.tournament - a win tomorrow at Twickenham will be testament to

:14:48. > :14:53.just how far they have come. We will be talking more rugby in a

:14:53. > :14:59.moment, but first, breaking news tonight. Just days before he was

:14:59. > :15:04.due to take charge of Wales, assistant Wales coach Raymond for

:15:04. > :15:08.high and has announced that he has resigned. He has said on Twitter he

:15:08. > :15:12.has had enough of political and destructive games, but he thanks

:15:12. > :15:17.the players and the fans for his amazing journey.

:15:17. > :15:22.Let us turn to football. A huge weekend for Cardiff City fans. Nine

:15:22. > :15:25.miles that way, you will find Wembley, and that is where Cardiff

:15:25. > :15:30.City finds are heading this Sunday for the final of the Carling Cup.

:15:30. > :15:34.They will take on Liverpool. It is their 4th trip in four years, they

:15:34. > :15:38.were waved off by fans early this morning as they started their

:15:38. > :15:42.journey, hoping to find some -- hoping to bring some silverware

:15:42. > :15:46.home. It is becoming a second home for

:15:46. > :15:50.Cardiff City, on a Sunday they will be at Wembley again hoping things

:15:50. > :15:53.turn out better than previous finals in the FA Cup and

:15:53. > :15:58.Championship play-offs. The team set off for Wembley at lunchtime,

:15:58. > :16:04.cheered on their way by fans who will be following them down the

:16:04. > :16:07.Mfor on Sunday morning. It is a fantastic time to be a Cardiff City

:16:07. > :16:13.fan. Three Wembley finals in four years is an amazing record for any

:16:13. > :16:18.club, and they are confident that this time they will get a win.

:16:18. > :16:23.believe in them. I want to see some passion, and the will to win.

:16:23. > :16:27.think we will win, as long as they keep the game tight.

:16:27. > :16:32.In August, Wembley was the last thing on the mind of the fans as

:16:32. > :16:36.the team scraped through in extra- time against Oxford United. It was

:16:36. > :16:40.the match that set them on their way and save the lives of this

:16:40. > :16:44.Cardiff City fan. Lesley had collapsed at his home in Newport

:16:44. > :16:52.and could not get up for six days. Fellow fans noticed he was not on

:16:52. > :17:00.the bus to Oxford, and raised the alarm. I thought I would never make

:17:00. > :17:04.it. I can't wait for Sunday, you know. I thought I would never make

:17:04. > :17:08.Sunday. The road to Wembley was relatively

:17:08. > :17:13.kind to Cardiff. After the first round at Oxford they had four home

:17:13. > :17:17.games, including a victory over premier-league Blackburn. Then they

:17:17. > :17:21.avoided one of the top division's big beasts in the semi-finals,

:17:21. > :17:26.although victory against Crystal Palace could not have been closer.

:17:26. > :17:34.Double saves from Tom he turned in a nail-biting penalty shoot out

:17:34. > :17:44.made history for Cardiff City, their first time it in that final.

:17:44. > :17:46.

:17:46. > :17:49.It is a new one for me walking out there, against a top team it is

:17:49. > :17:58.certainly going to be something that is nice to look back on, but

:17:58. > :18:02.at the time, we have to win it. Liverpool are strong favourites.

:18:02. > :18:12.They got to the final thanks to a ball from Craig Bellamy, who says

:18:12. > :18:12.

:18:12. > :18:16.he will not celebrate if he scores against his home town club. We will

:18:16. > :18:20.talk after it, not a problem, but we have to respect each other as

:18:20. > :18:28.well. I do not want to get information off them or tried to

:18:28. > :18:33.hand them for information. We just want to both tripe as best as we

:18:33. > :18:37.can, and whoever wins, deserves it. This match is not a straight Wales

:18:37. > :18:43.against England contest. Liverpool has strong support,

:18:43. > :18:46.include -- especially in North Wales. Many fans are looking

:18:46. > :18:51.forward to red ribbons being on the Kop.

:18:51. > :18:55.I think a lot of people backwards and forwards have emigrated one way

:18:55. > :19:01.or another across the water, so that is probably why there is quite

:19:01. > :19:06.a healthy support, and of course liveable's history is very strong

:19:06. > :19:12.in football. - Mac Liverpool. Today the players left with dreams

:19:12. > :19:18.of causing an upset. On Sunday they hope to return to Wales as he was.

:19:18. > :19:21.It is not just about football and rugby, but about boxing. Nathan

:19:21. > :19:25.Cleverly will take the ring tomorrow night to defend his title.

:19:25. > :19:31.We will hear from him in a few minutes. The way in happened today.

:19:31. > :19:37.We will see you in a few minutes. - - the way in happened today.

:19:37. > :19:40.Does it matter which way a person is buried? One councillor in

:19:40. > :19:50.Aberystwyth is claiming people being buried in the town cemetery

:19:50. > :19:51.

:19:51. > :19:57.are facing the wrong way. Cefn Llan cemetery sits on a deep

:19:57. > :19:59.sleep. It opened in 2006, but it is only now questions are being asked

:19:59. > :20:04.about the way burials are carried out.

:20:04. > :20:08.As you can see, these headstones are facing south, and now a local

:20:08. > :20:12.councillor says that is wrong, and that in accordance with Christian

:20:12. > :20:19.tradition, people should instead be buried west to east. Just like they

:20:19. > :20:25.have been here, in Llanbadarn Fawr cemetery. The Christian way it is

:20:25. > :20:30.to be buried facing east, so that you would face Jesus. That is what

:20:30. > :20:35.they believe in. Do you think this matters? When you consider how many

:20:35. > :20:42.people are cremated these days, is this important? Probably not to a

:20:42. > :20:45.lot of people, but a lot of people are very concerned, and they are

:20:45. > :20:50.firm Christian believers and want to be buried in the Christian

:20:50. > :20:53.method. The cemetery is am -- the cemetery is managed by Ceredigion

:20:53. > :20:59.County Council, who says there is no specific legislation regarding

:20:59. > :21:04.this. Cefn Llan summitry, they say, has been set out to maximise the

:21:04. > :21:11.use of land, and to reduce costs when preparing graves on a steep

:21:11. > :21:16.slope. So what do Christian leaders think? I don't think it matters.

:21:16. > :21:21.The biblical reason is that the Lord Jesus Christ is called the Son

:21:21. > :21:24.of righteousness, and that he rises with healing in his wings, and

:21:24. > :21:29.presumably from the east, and therefore that his second coming

:21:29. > :21:35.would be from the East as well. But as far as I am concerned, I do not

:21:35. > :21:41.think it matters which way the body faces.

:21:41. > :21:44.The council does say that it is a section of the cemetery which lies

:21:44. > :21:49.approximately west to east, and people can ask to be buried there

:21:49. > :21:59.it that is their wish. Let us return to Twickenham with

:21:59. > :22:00.

:22:00. > :22:04.more on the big sporting weekend. Head coach of London Welsh is here

:22:04. > :22:11.now. Thank you very much for coming. Your thoughts ahead of tomorrow -

:22:11. > :22:15.it is a hard place to come? Wales, maybe for the first time are coming

:22:15. > :22:20.here as favourites, and they have to deal with expectations of the

:22:20. > :22:26.Welsh public. Wales do have a little bit of advantage over

:22:26. > :22:31.England, but it is all on the day. It will be an almost Wressle, but I

:22:31. > :22:35.think they will be tested. If they can pass the test, you never know.

:22:35. > :22:40.You are a man who knows the English scene world - have England

:22:40. > :22:46.impressed you? They say this is their perfect time to face Wales.

:22:46. > :22:51.They have not impressed me, they have a long way to go. The English

:22:51. > :22:56.game has a big emphasis on scrum, and very little thought on the

:22:56. > :23:03.extra skill part of the game which Wales have in abundance. So they

:23:03. > :23:09.have some key players, and they also have an 8, 9, ten combination,

:23:09. > :23:14.who are making their very first start for England. When the

:23:14. > :23:21.pressure comes on, how are they going to deal with that? Wales are

:23:21. > :23:27.being tipped to win 44 -- by 14. Do you agree? It is going to be tough,

:23:27. > :23:34.as we all know, and what is important is that at 5:25pm we do

:23:34. > :23:39.not hear sweet low -- Swing Low, Sweet chariot.

:23:39. > :23:43.Bent you very much indeed. It is a huge weekend, and the meat

:23:43. > :23:48.between the sandwich is boxing. Nathan Cleverly will take to the
