:01:23. > :01:32.ready for Rome but as they end an eight-match losing streak, should

:01:32. > :01:35.Rob Howley make any changes? Good evening. Five members of the

:01:35. > :01:38.same family have been killed in a car crash in Saudi Arabia. Three

:01:38. > :01:42.generations of the family from Newport had been making a

:01:42. > :01:52.pilgrimage to Mecca when the taxi they were travelling in crashed

:01:52. > :01:54.

:01:54. > :01:58.into a ditch. The only survivor was a one year-old boy.

:01:58. > :02:03.This has cut to the very core of this community. It will be

:02:03. > :02:07.difficult to find a more well- respected family than the Hayat

:02:07. > :02:10.family. People have been walking around with tears in their eyes and

:02:10. > :02:15.attending the local mosque to pay their respects.

:02:15. > :02:25.A family that where the heart of their community. Cruelly and

:02:25. > :02:30.

:02:30. > :02:34.suddenly taken away. 56-year-old man, his wife, his elder son, their

:02:34. > :02:40.daughter were killed when the taxi they were travelling in crashed

:02:40. > :02:44.into a wall. The only survivor, a one year-old boy. He was reportedly

:02:44. > :02:51.found in the arms of his grandfather. Friends have called

:02:51. > :02:55.this a miracle. You can imagine if it was your family. It is tragic

:02:55. > :03:00.just losing one person but when a whole family like that, and an

:03:00. > :03:04.expectant mother seven months pregnant, that is really tragic.

:03:04. > :03:09.Beyond belief. The family were on a pilgrimage to the holy city of

:03:09. > :03:14.Mecca. A trip they had made before and a trip made by millions of

:03:14. > :03:20.Noddy and -- Muslims every year. This visit was particularly special

:03:20. > :03:27.because Sira was due to get married this weekend. Devastating. With

:03:27. > :03:31.five members just gone. It is horrible. No words can express.

:03:31. > :03:37.service was held at their local mosque. Their funerals have been

:03:37. > :03:44.taking place at a holy site in Saudi Arabia throughout the day.

:03:44. > :03:49.was very sad and heartbreaking news when the people, especially of this

:03:49. > :03:53.mask, when they heard the news. People could not believe and many

:03:53. > :03:58.of them started crying. 20 members of the extended family had

:03:58. > :04:02.travelled to the country and friends of -- and neighbours have

:04:02. > :04:08.pledged their support when they return with the young boy. The city

:04:08. > :04:13.has immense respect for the Hayat family. There will be real grief in

:04:13. > :04:16.Newport tonight at these terrible tragedies that have happened.

:04:17. > :04:22.prayers go to them and we are waiting for them to come and we

:04:22. > :04:25.will be visiting and supporting them on a long-term basis. I know

:04:25. > :04:33.it will not be easy but we will work together to do our best for

:04:33. > :04:37.them. The family are expected back in Newport in the coming week.

:04:37. > :04:41.Evening prayers are due to take place shortly and no doubt the high

:04:41. > :04:46.at family will be in the course of everyone in there. The Foreign

:04:46. > :04:51.Office says it is providing assistance as is the Saudi Arabian

:04:51. > :04:55.royal family. The extended family are out in Saudi Arabia. They will

:04:55. > :04:58.want to bring back the young boy as soon as possible, but certainly for

:04:58. > :05:02.the people here, they will be mourning the loss of one of their

:05:02. > :05:04.own. Catholics across Wales have been

:05:04. > :05:08.reflecting on the shock announcement that Pope Benedict is

:05:08. > :05:13.to resign on health grounds. The Archbishop of Cardiff has called

:05:14. > :05:17.for people of all faiths to pray for his well-being. There are

:05:17. > :05:24.150,000 Catholics in Wales and many have been surprised and saddened by

:05:24. > :05:28.the news. Praying for the Pope. At this mass

:05:28. > :05:32.at the cathedral of St David in Cardiff, where ships were asked to

:05:32. > :05:35.keep Pope Benedict in their thoughts and prayers. News of his

:05:35. > :05:40.resignation had just come through and this seemed to take everyone by

:05:40. > :05:45.surprise. It is a great shock and he will be a great loss to the

:05:45. > :05:52.Catholic Church. I am from Australia so it was news to me

:05:52. > :05:56.today. Maybe because of ill health, all aged but that is understandable.

:05:56. > :06:04.Shocked because it is a long time since the last time this happened,

:06:04. > :06:10.600 years. There are around 150,000 Catholics in Wales. Although Pope

:06:10. > :06:14.Benedict has not come here, Wales has gone to the Pope. In 2010, he

:06:14. > :06:23.blessed a mosaic of St David at Westminster Cathedral and pray

:06:23. > :06:27.before the statue of Our Lady which had been bought from Cardiff.

:06:27. > :06:31.bless the people of Wales. Today the Catholic Archbishop of Cardiff

:06:31. > :06:36.called for people of all believes in Wales to pray for the Pope and

:06:36. > :06:41.to have faith that the pastoral care will continue. The life of the

:06:41. > :06:46.Church goes on and with the election of a new Pope, he becomes

:06:46. > :06:52.the focal point, he becomes the father figure as it were. But that

:06:52. > :06:56.does not mean to say in the interim that there is no guidance, no

:06:56. > :07:00.leadership because the rhythm and the life for the Church continues

:07:00. > :07:03.throughout the world. This morning's announcement took even

:07:03. > :07:08.the Pope's closest aides by surprise at throughout the day,

:07:08. > :07:14.Welsh Catholics from all walks of life have been taking in the news.

:07:14. > :07:19.A complete surprise to all of us. Saddened also because the reason

:07:19. > :07:24.the Pope wants to resign is because of his health. He is 85. I would

:07:24. > :07:27.suspect there during the last years of the previous Pope, the current

:07:27. > :07:33.one saw him deteriorates so much that he did not want that to happen

:07:33. > :07:40.to him. St Winifred's is one of Wales's haulier sides and a place

:07:40. > :07:44.of pilgrimage. Its custodian says he is saddened by today's news but

:07:44. > :07:53.realises all things must pass. will light a candle for him and

:07:53. > :07:58.wish him the best for the future. We hope the weather takes over will

:07:58. > :08:03.be the same as Pope Benedict. just two weeks' time, the Pope will

:08:03. > :08:07.Stepaside and the church will move as quickly as they can to appoint a

:08:08. > :08:13.successor. Catholics around the world will be watching and waiting.

:08:13. > :08:15.A woman from Carmarthen Show will not face charges over allegations

:08:15. > :08:21.they she failed to disclose information about the location of

:08:21. > :08:25.one of the victims of Moors murderer Ian Brady. Jackie Powell

:08:25. > :08:29.was arrested last year on suspicion of preventing the lawful burial of

:08:29. > :08:32.Keith Bennett. He was one of five children killed by Brady and Myra

:08:32. > :08:37.Hindley. South was police are continuing

:08:38. > :08:42.their search for the missing rugby fan Ben Thompson. He was last seen

:08:42. > :08:46.more than a week ago after the Wales are running game in Cardiff.

:08:46. > :08:51.There was close to the television footage of him in the Leckwith area

:08:51. > :08:54.and teams of officers have been combing the backs of the River Ely.

:08:54. > :08:59.Come to Wales because we have the skills you need and the people who

:08:59. > :09:04.want to work. That is the message from the First Minister Carwyn

:09:04. > :09:09.Jones as he takes 15 what companies on a mission to San Francisco. The

:09:09. > :09:16.US was Wales's largest trading partner last year but as export

:09:16. > :09:20.figures decline there is a call for the Welsh Government to do more.

:09:20. > :09:24.The Chinese new year brings with it new opportunities for Welsh

:09:24. > :09:27.companies. Bitter something which has not lost on the First Minister

:09:27. > :09:31.as he invited the Chinese ambassador for talks on how to

:09:31. > :09:35.boost trade and business links between the countries. But when it

:09:35. > :09:40.comes to making sure that the Welsh businesses are best placed in

:09:40. > :09:45.foreign markets, is Carwyn Jones a good salesman? We have to sell

:09:45. > :09:49.ourselves to the world. David Cameron does it all the time, Alex

:09:49. > :09:55.Salmond all the time. We have to make sure our name is known around

:09:55. > :09:58.the world. We went to India and came back with a hundred million

:09:58. > :10:03.pounds. Of position parties questioned whether that investment

:10:03. > :10:08.was a result of his visit but the First Minister has been racking up

:10:08. > :10:12.the Air Miles. Two weeks ago he was in Turkey. Then it was on to Dublin,

:10:12. > :10:17.this week to San Francisco, followed by trips to New York and

:10:17. > :10:22.Japan in the next few months. Cardiff-based technology company

:10:22. > :10:27.rant media are going with the First Minister to San Francisco. The

:10:27. > :10:33.latest application has been featured international by Apple. 92

:10:33. > :10:40.% of the revenue came from abroad. We are hoping to meet some high-

:10:41. > :10:46.level technical contacts as well as meeting up with some blockers, some

:10:46. > :10:50.take industry experts, some of whom we had met before some of whom we

:10:50. > :10:55.have not. Gay and in some lost ground in San Francisco will high

:10:55. > :10:58.on the watch Government's agenda. In the third quarter of last year,

:10:58. > :11:04.a Welsh exports were worth 1 billion to North America but this

:11:04. > :11:10.has now fallen to 915 million. Most recent figures show the total Welsh

:11:10. > :11:15.exports fell by 200 million. recent table of inward investment

:11:15. > :11:20.in the UK have shown that Wales has fallen from the top of the league

:11:20. > :11:25.table to the bottom in about seven years. That is not good. In the

:11:25. > :11:29.Chinese deer of the snake, things can always turn around. According

:11:29. > :11:32.to Chinese astrology, people born in the year of the snake us are to

:11:32. > :11:39.be keen and determined, a trait that will have to be on show this

:11:39. > :11:44.week if Welsh businesses are to be recognised abroad.

:11:45. > :11:49.More to come including 1.5 billion gambled on them each year. Dove the

:11:49. > :11:53.crack cocaine of gambling, tonight calls for stricter regulation.

:11:54. > :12:03.And after that win in Paris, Royal Rob Howley select the same man

:12:04. > :12:04.

:12:04. > :12:10.They had been described as the crack cocaine of the betting

:12:10. > :12:14.industry and more than 1.5 billion was gambled on them in Wales last

:12:14. > :12:19.year. Electronic gambling machines. Now the they are a target of a

:12:19. > :12:29.campaign for greater regulation but bookmakers say there was no sign of

:12:29. > :12:42.

:12:42. > :12:49.$:/STARTFEED. I am not here to say that machines should be taken off

:12:49. > :12:54.the high street. Our organisation is not anti- gambling. We want to

:12:54. > :12:59.see restrictions put in place. Ingrid Wallace gives counselling to

:12:59. > :13:06.people with gambling problems in Cardiff and also has concerns about

:13:06. > :13:10.the machines which are known as fixed odds betting terminals.

:13:10. > :13:14.people are placing a bet or when people play the National Lottery

:13:14. > :13:18.was something like that, there is a bit more distance and people have

:13:18. > :13:26.time to think in between and talk to other people and do something

:13:26. > :13:33.else in between. I do think that there are potentially not a safe

:13:33. > :13:37.product. Adding up all the stakes in Wales last year gives a total of

:13:37. > :13:42.1.9 billion, up 5% on the before. A large chunk of that is people

:13:42. > :13:52.gambling away their winnings so the profit for bookmakers and Wales was

:13:52. > :14:00.comparatively lower. There is no empirical evidence that it is a

:14:00. > :14:04.problem. I would therefore say that one has to remember the betting

:14:04. > :14:10.industry is the most heavily regulated sector on the high street.

:14:10. > :14:16.The betting shops in Wales support 2000 jobs and contribute a hundred

:14:17. > :14:23.million pounds to the Welsh economy. Fresh out of the bookies, even some

:14:23. > :14:30.customers have concerns. You have one big win and that's game over.

:14:30. > :14:34.Have you seen people lose a lot of money? Thousands of pounds. People

:14:34. > :14:38.are hitting the machines and it's not good. It is like a drug.

:14:38. > :14:41.bookmaking industry is conducting research to find out whether the

:14:41. > :14:47.machines are causing any issues but say most people use them without

:14:47. > :14:54.any problems. Campaigners argue that with debts of up to 100 every

:14:54. > :14:56.20 seconds the stakes are too high for vulnerable people. $$CLEAR

:14:56. > :14:59.$:/STARTFEED. Almost one in five cancer patients

:14:59. > :15:03.in Wales say they've experienced a lack of support from family and

:15:03. > :15:05.friends. That's according to research by the charity Macmillan

:15:05. > :15:15.that reveals that some even refuse treatment because they fear

:15:15. > :15:15.

:15:15. > :15:20.relatives will be unable to help them through it. Cancer patients

:15:20. > :15:23.get help for the physical side of their illness but this report shows

:15:23. > :15:28.that thousands of patients are finding they are not getting the

:15:28. > :15:31.emotional support they also need from some of those closer to home.

:15:31. > :15:34.Mair Dempster Jones from Mold was diagnosed with breast cancer five

:15:34. > :15:40.years ago. She came through it, but says she couldn't have done it

:15:40. > :15:50.alone. You are given that the diagnosis and to Onye Rome,

:15:50. > :15:51.

:15:51. > :15:55.literally. It is your problem and your illness. You need the backing

:15:55. > :15:58.of friends for all sorts of reasons. The charity Macmillan says one in

:15:58. > :16:04.five cancer patients in Wales feel isolated, either because they live

:16:04. > :16:08.far from family or worry that relatives won't be able to cope.

:16:08. > :16:12.Sometimes they have not got anyone to make sure they have eaten or

:16:12. > :16:18.cook them a hot meal. They have difficulty getting prescriptions or

:16:18. > :16:23.getting to an appointment. At worst, people might actually turned and

:16:23. > :16:26.treatment because of some of those practical support us and that Care

:16:26. > :16:28.Network is not around them. Former Assembly Member, Karen Sinclair,

:16:29. > :16:34.from Llangollen has lived with cancer for five years. She says

:16:34. > :16:38.where family and friends can't help, alternatives are available. It is

:16:38. > :16:43.absolutely imperative that we reach as many people to say to them you

:16:43. > :16:49.don't have to be alone and you don't have to go through this

:16:49. > :16:52.without support and really good support is there. Cancer patients

:16:52. > :16:54.know that science and medicine can only do so much. A friendly face

:16:54. > :16:56.and helping hand are just as important.

:16:56. > :16:59.We don't want a repeat of the Aberfan disaster. That's the

:16:59. > :17:02.message from protestors who've handed in a petition against a new

:17:02. > :17:05.coal mine in the Swansea Valley. They're worried the development

:17:05. > :17:07.could lead to landslides similar to the one seen nearby at Ystalyfera

:17:07. > :17:17.before Christmas. Neath Port Talbot Council says it's considering the

:17:17. > :17:22.

:17:22. > :17:28.application and is aware of concerns. We have come to protest

:17:28. > :17:33.against this proposed mine application because it has a

:17:33. > :17:37.history of landslides as it is. The application could cause further

:17:37. > :17:41.landslides in the area and destroy our villages.

:17:41. > :17:44.Catherine Zeta Jones will return to the Oscars stage at the end of the

:17:44. > :17:47.month to reunite with the cast of Chicago. It's ten years since the

:17:47. > :17:50.Swansea actress won an academy award for her role in the film.

:17:50. > :17:54.Dame Shirley Bassey will be making her first appearance at the

:17:54. > :17:58.ceremony in what's rumoured to be a special tribute to James Bond.

:17:58. > :18:01.Next year marks the centenary of the start of the First World War

:18:01. > :18:08.and tomorrow night we begin the first of two special reports from

:18:08. > :18:11.Flanders. Roger Pinney reports from the site of the Battle of

:18:11. > :18:14.Passchendale where in 1917 thousands of soldiers from north,

:18:14. > :18:24.south, east and west Wales fought and died. An appeal has been

:18:24. > :18:24.

:18:24. > :18:29.launched to build a Welsh memorial there. This memorial on the

:18:29. > :18:34.outskirts of the town remembers the people of Scotland who died in the

:18:34. > :18:39.first world war but is it time now for one remembering those from

:18:39. > :18:41.Wales? More on that tomorrow. Back to

:18:41. > :18:44.tonight and let's talk Rugby. Here's Claire.

:18:44. > :18:47.Good evening. Wales say their win over France has given them new

:18:47. > :18:51.found belief ahead of their next game against Italy in Rome in just

:18:51. > :18:53.under two weeks. In a moment, the thoughts of former Wales and Lions

:18:53. > :18:56.centre Tom Shanklin, who's with us for the duration of the

:18:56. > :19:06.Championship. But first, here's how some of the players reflected on

:19:06. > :19:08.

:19:08. > :19:18.that win in Paris. It is up there with one of the best feelings in a

:19:18. > :19:28.Welsh jersey. To go to Paris and Wayne is a huge challenge -- to go

:19:28. > :19:31.

:19:31. > :19:36.to Paris and wind. You could see how much it meant to all the boys.

:19:36. > :19:40.It was an amazing feeling. It is up there with one of the best days of

:19:40. > :19:44.my life. Unbelievable celebrations on the field after the game. It was

:19:44. > :19:50.a fantastic win. We had one opportunity in the second half and

:19:50. > :19:53.we took it. That is what won us the game. We didn't take opportunities

:19:53. > :19:56.against Ireland and it was the difference between winning and

:19:56. > :20:05.losing. Tom, how important was that win for

:20:05. > :20:09.Wales? It has lifted morale. These coaches and players were under

:20:09. > :20:15.pressure and had not won a game for eight matches. You saw the reaction

:20:15. > :20:19.of the players and it meant everything to them. It was not the

:20:19. > :20:25.greatest game but I am sick of seeing Wales play well and lose so

:20:25. > :20:32.the win was important. Hopefully, this is the start of something big.

:20:32. > :20:38.It started with the moment of magic from George North. That was the

:20:38. > :20:42.catalyst. You mentioned the reaction of the players and the

:20:42. > :20:46.relief afterwards, many of the players were emotional. It was a

:20:46. > :20:51.great kick by Dan Biggar. George North was the only player who could

:20:51. > :21:00.have finished that offer. There were a lot of emotions after and

:21:00. > :21:05.Jamie Roberts showed his emotion during an interview after the game.

:21:05. > :21:13.It meant so much to him. It has been a tough period for them under

:21:13. > :21:20.there has been a lot of pressure on them. What will a win like that to

:21:20. > :21:23.to the squad? Confidence is everything. They will go to Italy

:21:23. > :21:28.now ins two weeks and feel better about themselves. There will be

:21:28. > :21:32.more self-belief. He beat them and Scotland and then you have England

:21:32. > :21:37.at the end. They could be coming here to win a Grand Slam. The IM

:21:37. > :21:41.glad England won at the weekend because it is in our control now,

:21:41. > :21:46.stopping England winning the Grand Slam and possibly winning the

:21:46. > :21:51.championship. You have to be positive. The let's have a quick

:21:51. > :21:58.chat about Ryan Jones. He was immense. The couple of selection

:21:58. > :22:03.headaches for Robert Howley now. Would you make any changes? Ryan

:22:03. > :22:07.Jones was immense. Gethin Jenkins were immense. There were two senior

:22:07. > :22:12.players who stood out. It is a tough dilemma because Alun Wyn

:22:12. > :22:16.Jones is back and you have a Sam Warburton who will be fit. But I
