:00:00. > :00:00.like an important first stage in England's road to recovery. There is

:00:00. > :00:13.more throughout the evening on the BBC News

:00:14. > :00:17.Good evening. Thousands of homes in Gwynedd and Anglesey are still

:00:18. > :00:20.without power tonight - as gales and heavy rain continue to cause

:00:21. > :00:26.widespread disruption across much of the country. Wind speeds of more

:00:27. > :00:31.than a hundred miles per hour hit the north Wales coast. Carwyn Jones

:00:32. > :00:35.reports The village of Aberdaron on the Llyn Peninsula bore the brunt of

:00:36. > :00:41.today's stormy weather. Gusts of 109 miles per hour battered

:00:42. > :00:54.this coastline. Gale force winds uprooted trees and blew debris onto

:00:55. > :00:56.overhead power lines. 4200 homes in Gwynedd and Anglesey are still

:00:57. > :01:00.without electricity tonight as engineers struggle to restore power

:01:01. > :01:05.across the network. The sea was tremendous. As you can

:01:06. > :01:10.see behind me, telephone poles have snapped and a few groups have gone

:01:11. > :01:15.here and there are taught -- if you roof tiles have gone here and there.

:01:16. > :01:18.There's been disruption on the roads too. The A449 between Raglan and Usk

:01:19. > :01:22.is closed southbound tonight after a car collided with a tree on the

:01:23. > :01:25.carriageway. It was a similar story in Denbighshire - this was the A525

:01:26. > :01:28.outside Llandegla earlier this morning. Shoppers who make it into

:01:29. > :01:32.Bangor for some retail therapy - on what's one of the busiest shopping

:01:33. > :01:35.days of the year, found two of the main shopping streets closed. The

:01:36. > :01:38.wind had brought slates and tiles crashing down on to the pavement

:01:39. > :01:40.below. Meanwhile in Cardiff, firefighters were called to Wales'

:01:41. > :01:46.largest department store to reattach the christmas lights, which had been

:01:47. > :01:51.left dangling in the wind. We have been preparing and we have

:01:52. > :01:54.had so working, monitoring the levels and making sure the

:01:55. > :01:58.differences are holding and we will do that over the coming days because

:01:59. > :02:03.we are expecting a few days of respite. The weather is usually

:02:04. > :02:06.unsettled this time of the year. On the rail network, there have been

:02:07. > :02:10.severe delays across the South of the country. Arriva Trains Wales is

:02:11. > :02:13.urging passengers to check before they travel and to be prepared for

:02:14. > :02:17.last minute cancellations. The winds are now starting to die down but

:02:18. > :02:20.there are warnings of more unsettled conditions to come next week.

:02:21. > :02:23.Malky Mackay has been sacked as manager by Cardiff City after a

:02:24. > :02:26.meeting of the club's board of directors. His dismissal comes less

:02:27. > :02:31.than 24 hours after the club's three nil home Boxing Day defeat to

:02:32. > :02:34.Southampton. It follows a public row with the club's billionaire owner,

:02:35. > :02:39.Vincent Tan, who'd asked him to resign or be sacked. Matthew Murray

:02:40. > :02:42.reports. Malky Mackay may have been looking

:02:43. > :02:45.uneasy on the touchline yesterday, with his side trailing and

:02:46. > :02:50.billionaire owner Vincent Tan in the stands talking closely to his

:02:51. > :02:54.chairman. Now less than 24 hours after losing three Nil to

:02:55. > :02:58.Southhampton Mackay has been sacked. The defeat could have been the

:02:59. > :03:02.excuse that Tan required. After the circus of the past week. When first,

:03:03. > :03:07.Mackay was told resign or be sacked only for Tan to withdraw that threat

:03:08. > :03:14.a few days later. But this afternoon the inevitable finally happened.

:03:15. > :03:19.Robert Earnshaw believes this all comes down to money and the

:03:20. > :03:22.overspend the owner accused the management staff in the transfer

:03:23. > :03:25.market. They spent a lot of money. I would

:03:26. > :03:34.imagine it was more than anyone has ever spent coming up to the Premier

:03:35. > :03:40.League. The chairman is probably feeling that it is a lot of money

:03:41. > :03:46.and they should be doing better. Vincent Tan said the dismissal was

:03:47. > :03:49."regretfully" necessary to be fair to the club and its fans.

:03:50. > :03:55.Tan said: "Far too much dirty linen has been exposed to the public gaze

:03:56. > :04:01.but, I stress, not by me." Mackay had been appointed Cardiff's

:04:02. > :04:05.manager two and half years ago. In his first season he took the club to

:04:06. > :04:08.the League Cup final, where they lost to Liverpool on penalties. In

:04:09. > :04:12.his second season he led Cardiff to promotion to the Premier League

:04:13. > :04:15.ending a 51 year weight to join the top flight. And as dark clouds hung

:04:16. > :04:18.over the Cardiff city stadium fans were feeling angry if not surprised.

:04:19. > :04:22.I'm annoyed. I want to say thank you to Malky for all he has done. He has

:04:23. > :04:29.done the club proud. I will be back here protesting about Vincent Tan.

:04:30. > :04:34.Malky got us where we are. I don't think Vincent Tan is the right

:04:35. > :04:38.person for football in South Wales, or in the premiership.

:04:39. > :04:43.The cup has set a new first team manager will be appointed in due

:04:44. > :04:49.course but tomorrow Cardiff face bottom of the table Sunderland here

:04:50. > :04:53.at the Cardiff city stadium. The fans who demonstrated on Boxing Day

:04:54. > :04:57.are prepared to demonstrate yet tomorrow. So even with his departure

:04:58. > :04:58.it seems for the fans Malky remains number one. Time for the weather

:04:59. > :05:09.forecast. We have seen a windy day with gusts

:05:10. > :05:15.of 109 mph recorded earlier. Strong winds tonight and they will use.

:05:16. > :05:20.Showers continuing, wintry on higher ground and turning cold enough for

:05:21. > :05:25.ice patches along the border with temperatures hovering just above

:05:26. > :05:31.freezing. Tomorrow wintry showers with a risk of Heol. They will ease

:05:32. > :05:34.leaving sunny spells. Mist and fog patches possible along the marchers

:05:35. > :05:41.with lighter winds but colder than today top temperatures of six to

:05:42. > :05:43.eight Celsius. Sunday is fine and dry with isolated showers but

:05:44. > :05:48.further wet and windy weather arrives from the West late on Sunday

:05:49. > :05:55.night. A, weekend before turning unsettled again early next week.

:05:56. > :05:58.I'll have an update for you in our late bulletin at 10:15pm tonight.

:05:59. > :06:00.That's Wales Today. Thank you for watching. From all of us on the

:06:01. > :06:15.programme, good evening. Good evening. What a week it has

:06:16. > :06:21.been, a stormy start, a law through Christmas, then a wild end to the

:06:22. > :06:27.week, had to keep up, isn't it? This was a vicious area of low pressure

:06:28. > :06:30.last night, but today the winds have been strongest across northern

:06:31. > :06:31.areas, where it is still blowing a
