:00:00. > :00:17.upheaval of August 1914. That is all from us,
:00:18. > :00:21.Good evening. More than 7,000 patients were asked to rate the
:00:22. > :00:26.quality of their cancer treatment - and the vast majority thought their
:00:27. > :00:28.care was excellent or very good. In Wales, more than 18,000 people are
:00:29. > :00:34.diagnosed with cancer every year, with 24 people dying every day. But
:00:35. > :00:37.the study also found there were variations between hospitals and
:00:38. > :00:49.treatment for some types of cancer. Here's our health correspondent
:00:50. > :00:53.Owain Clarke. We've had your test results back
:00:54. > :00:58.from the lab and it is cancer. It's the news nobody wants to hear. In
:00:59. > :01:03.2009, this card if one face the shock of a cancer diagnosis. She
:01:04. > :01:06.noticed a lump on her neck and assumed it was just a swollen
:01:07. > :01:13.gland. It turned out to be a cancer that had spread. -- this Cardiff
:01:14. > :01:17.woman. The first thing I thought when I was told the diagnosis, apart
:01:18. > :01:21.from that I was going to die, was that I would be dreadfully
:01:22. > :01:26.disfigured. I had very good care from the physiotherapy service after
:01:27. > :01:30.surgery. Following her treatment, she was asked to rate her treatment
:01:31. > :01:36.as part of a Wales wide survey. The early 7500 patients took part.
:01:37. > :01:41.Overall, nine out of ten of them rated their care as excellent or
:01:42. > :01:44.good. But not every health board or hospital performed as well as each
:01:45. > :01:50.other. Patients were happiest with their care at a specialist cancer
:01:51. > :01:59.centre in Cardiff and also at a nearby hospital. A hospital in
:02:00. > :02:02.Bangor also scored highly. The hospitals in red had the least
:02:03. > :02:07.positive scores compared to the average. We need to make sure that
:02:08. > :02:12.the variance between health boards and hospitals is considered
:02:13. > :02:20.carefully. We need to make sure those key commitments in the Welsh
:02:21. > :02:22.Government's plan are implemented. There are also differences with how
:02:23. > :02:28.satisfied patients with different types all forms of cancer were with
:02:29. > :02:33.the care they got. Breast cancer patients, for example, had by far
:02:34. > :02:39.the most positive experiences. Those with lung cancer or bladder cancer,
:02:40. > :02:44.meanwhile, as well as patience with the rarer forms of cancer, tended to
:02:45. > :02:49.give the poorest scores. 68% of patients said they had been given
:02:50. > :02:54.information about the impact of the disease would have on their work or
:02:55. > :02:58.education, but just over half were given information about how to get
:02:59. > :03:02.financial help or benefits. According to the Welsh Government,
:03:03. > :03:07.this survey proves that the NHS in Wales can, at times, perform well
:03:08. > :03:12.and deliver for patients - even when services across the board are under
:03:13. > :03:15.intense pressure. The deputy head teacher of a Cardiff
:03:16. > :03:18.secondary school has been charged with three offences of voyeurism.
:03:19. > :03:21.47-year-old Gareth Williams has been suspended from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg
:03:22. > :03:26.Glantaf in Llandaff North. Police say the offences are alleged to have
:03:27. > :03:29.taken place in a house. Two people have been jailed for
:03:30. > :03:32.trafficking women to Cardiff to work as prostitutes. Ladislav Kurina from
:03:33. > :03:36.the Czech Republic and Angelika Bacan from Romania pleaded guilty at
:03:37. > :03:44.Newport Crown Court to arranging for a 25 and 26-year-old to come here to
:03:45. > :03:55.work in the sex trade. The women were later left destitute and
:03:56. > :04:00.desperate. Paul Heaney reports. 29 euros Ladislav Kurina and
:04:01. > :04:05.26-year-old temp two. In September last year, they brought two and from
:04:06. > :04:11.the Czech Republic to Cardiff. -- 29-year-old Ladislav Kurina and
:04:12. > :04:17.26-year-old Angelika Bacan. They had subtle control over their victims
:04:18. > :04:20.and kept the money they earned. In desperation, the women turned to an
:04:21. > :04:26.abuse charity and spoke to the police. Because of the coverage of
:04:27. > :04:30.the women, we've been able to work with them and with the authorities
:04:31. > :04:35.to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice. Anybody involved
:04:36. > :04:41.in that area of work, it you cannot imagine the in terms of what it does
:04:42. > :04:49.to you as a person, what it does to you in your ability to feel that you
:04:50. > :04:52.value yourself. The judge described it as a Republican crime but
:04:53. > :04:57.although both girls agreed to come to the UK willingly, to take part in
:04:58. > :05:13.the sex trade, she said they felt they had me misled. -- a Republican

:05:17. > :05:19.engineering graduate from the University of Bucharest, was a
:05:20. > :05:25.willing accessory to Ladislav Kurina. This is a modern day slavery
:05:26. > :05:32.understood all -- totally unacceptable. Those who seek to deny
:05:33. > :05:35.people of their most basic human rights should be in no doubt that we
:05:36. > :05:39.will do everything in our power to bring them to justice. The women
:05:40. > :05:43.have since returned to the Czech Republic, just one of 34 suspected
:05:44. > :05:47.cases of human trafficking in Wales last year. Charities say not
:05:48. > :05:49.everybody is able to escape so quickly.
:05:50. > :05:52.Members of the royalties agency Eos, which controls the broadcast rights
:05:53. > :05:56.to thousands of Welsh-language songs, have voted to continue talks
:05:57. > :05:59.with the BBC over a new deal to play their music. It follows meetings in
:06:00. > :06:03.Caernarfon and Cardiff tonight. In December a copyright tribunal ruled
:06:04. > :06:06.the BBC should pay ?100,000 a year for the right to broadcast the Eos
:06:07. > :06:18.songs - significantly less than the ?1.5 million they'd hoped for.

:06:43. > :06:44.destinations such as Glasgow and Paris following the withdrawal of
:06:45. > :06:47.Flybe from Cardiff. Charging for plastic carrier bags,
:06:48. > :06:50.free prescriptions and the foundation phase in primary schools
:06:51. > :06:54.are all policies made in Wales. Now, finding out weather policies like
:06:55. > :06:57.these actually work will be the task of a new think tank called the
:06:58. > :07:00.Public Policy Institute for Wales. The group will report directly to

:07:16. > :07:18.the civil service, a vital services provided but we need people to look
:07:19. > :07:23.at what works and, on occasion, what doesn't work. Traditionally in
:07:24. > :07:27.Wales, we haven't had that. It has existed in other parts of the UK and
:07:28. > :07:29.it's important we make sure we have the right evidence base when we make
