:00:20. > :00:27.good evening. Giant sandbags are being delivered by helicopter to
:00:28. > :00:32.improve flood defences along the Gwynedd coast. High tides are
:00:33. > :00:36.expected this weekend and homes and businesses are at risk. The village
:00:37. > :00:42.of Llanbedr near Harlech was hit by flooding earlier this month.
:00:43. > :00:48.Help from above and for some it cannot come soon enough. The new
:00:49. > :00:54.year was far from a happy one for the people of Llanbedr. Their homes
:00:55. > :01:00.were inundated with sea water when there homes were breached. Some
:01:01. > :01:04.needed to be rescued by lifeboat. The waters have temporarily subsided
:01:05. > :01:09.and the hiatus means help can be flown in. Giant sandbags are being
:01:10. > :01:14.delivered to add extra protection. Speed is of the essence with very
:01:15. > :01:21.high tides due before the end of the week. The race is on to transport
:01:22. > :01:25.301 tonne bags of slate and stone. Using conventional means of
:01:26. > :01:28.transport would take too long. That is good news for this couple who
:01:29. > :01:35.heard from neighbours that their home had been hit. We are hoping
:01:36. > :01:39.with the helicopter dropping of the bags it will spare us from another
:01:40. > :01:44.big flood on the high tides that are coming on Friday and Saturday.
:01:45. > :01:50.Unnatural resources Wales has been here since the last floods. Staff
:01:51. > :01:55.say this weekend's high tides need to be closely monitored. We are
:01:56. > :02:00.expecting high tide at the weekend. They are higher than the tides of
:02:01. > :02:05.one month ago, but there is much less of a storm surge predicted. But
:02:06. > :02:12.we are keeping a close eye on that. We have done a lot of modelling
:02:13. > :02:16.work. The work we are doing will help the local community here. The
:02:17. > :02:22.wardens who usually protects Snowdon have been moved here to supervise
:02:23. > :02:26.the delivery of the sandbags. The National Park authority has lent its
:02:27. > :02:34.support to speed up the assistance being offered. One of our footpath
:02:35. > :02:38.teams are with the helicopter to get the bags onto the helicopter and
:02:39. > :02:42.into place and we have done work with licensing to get things to
:02:43. > :02:47.happen as quickly as they could. There will be an anxious wait this
:02:48. > :02:52.weekend for tides to reach their peak. Residents will be hoping these
:02:53. > :02:56.airborne defences will keep the water at bay. Plans for a state
:02:57. > :03:02.owned commercial bank for Wales are a step closer. The Economy Minister
:03:03. > :03:06.has gone ahead with plans to see how big would work. It would be a
:03:07. > :03:13.one-stop shop offering financial support for companies. Finance Wales
:03:14. > :03:18.make you feel you have no right to be asking for money. It makes you
:03:19. > :03:24.question if you are doing the right thing. If it was not for friends,
:03:25. > :03:30.family and certainly an order book that was filling from previous
:03:31. > :03:36.customers, then I think I would have considered them to be right. Looe
:03:37. > :03:42.this is about a genuine dialogue about how we take things to the next
:03:43. > :03:47.stage. Without Finance Wales some businesses would not have been
:03:48. > :03:52.successful. The Welsh Ambulance Service has missed its target of
:03:53. > :04:01.reaching 65% of life-threatening incidents in eight minutes. The
:04:02. > :04:04.figure in December was 57.6%, down from 63.2% in November. The Welsh
:04:05. > :04:09.government said the response times were better than they had been for
:04:10. > :04:14.the same period in 2012. Public Health Wales is calling for children
:04:15. > :04:19.and young people who have not had the measles jab to get vaccinated
:04:20. > :04:25.urgently. It comes as four cases of measles have been confirmed at Gower
:04:26. > :04:28.College. There have also been a further five cases across the
:04:29. > :04:32.Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Carmarthenshire areas. The former
:04:33. > :04:37.head of a Primary School in Cardiff has been struck off the teaching
:04:38. > :04:42.register. The General Teaching Council found 15 of 24 allegations
:04:43. > :04:46.against Jane Vaterlaws, the former head of St Alban's Roman Catholic
:04:47. > :04:50.Primary School, were proven. She is said to have asked a struggling
:04:51. > :04:54.people to stay at home on inspection days and shared details about the
:04:55. > :05:00.people with the child's father who was in prison. Cancer patients
:05:01. > :05:04.across Wales who currently travelled to England for advanced radiotherapy
:05:05. > :05:11.treatment will now be able to get it here. A cutting edge machine has
:05:12. > :05:15.arrived at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff. But critics say
:05:16. > :05:23.one machine is not enough. It is one of the most advanced
:05:24. > :05:27.health technologies in Europe. It targets cancer cells with pinpoint
:05:28. > :05:33.accuracy and offers treatment up to four times faster than currently
:05:34. > :05:38.available. The side-effects are also greatly reduced because smaller
:05:39. > :05:47.areas of the body are affected. How are you? It is designed to help
:05:48. > :05:50.people like Ruth Jones. She has been having standard radiotherapy
:05:51. > :05:54.treatment for a month at the Velindre Cancer Centre, that would
:05:55. > :06:02.have been eligible for this. The machine I was on was not overly
:06:03. > :06:08.uncomfortable, I just feel that the new technology they have got will
:06:09. > :06:15.make the job for everyone quicker and easier. The technology which
:06:16. > :06:22.costs ?4.6 million has just arrived. It is the first of its kind
:06:23. > :06:26.in Wales. This is the business end of the machine, so the radiotherapy
:06:27. > :06:30.is delivered through the treatment head. That will rotate around the
:06:31. > :06:36.gantry. One of the key things with this machine which sets it apart
:06:37. > :06:41.from some of the others, is there is a CT scanner built into the head of
:06:42. > :06:45.the machine. That allows us to make sure the treatment we are delivering
:06:46. > :06:50.is going to exactly the part of the body we think it is going to. Until
:06:51. > :06:55.now patients who were suitable for this treatment had to travel to
:06:56. > :06:59.England. That led to campaign groups being set up by cancer patients in
:07:00. > :07:11.Wales is calling for the latest technology to be brought here. She
:07:12. > :07:16.told me whilst Cardiff is leading the way, Wales is lagging behind. It
:07:17. > :07:20.is a disappointment to me we have not been more ambitious. The Welsh
:07:21. > :07:26.government have been happy to sit back and let that situation exist in
:07:27. > :07:30.Wales, but I am glad they have been listening to people like myself and
:07:31. > :07:34.clinicians who wanted to get their hands on this vital equipment. The
:07:35. > :07:39.Welsh government says the machine will be able to treat a sufficient
:07:40. > :07:43.number of patients and all those in Wales who need it will have access
:07:44. > :07:48.to services. That access will be available in October when the
:07:49. > :07:54.machine is up and running. Now it is time for the weather.
:07:55. > :08:04.It has been a very wet month this January. It is the wettest January
:08:05. > :08:12.since records began in 1956. Some rain for some of us to night. Sleet
:08:13. > :08:18.in places and snow on high ground. Elsewhere, it is dry and there is a
:08:19. > :08:24.warning of icy patches in Powys and northern counties. A cold start
:08:25. > :08:29.tomorrow and a little light rain and sleet in the South East. Otherwise
:08:30. > :08:35.it is dry. It is brighter in the North West. Across the rest of the
:08:36. > :08:40.UK watch out for icy patches from the Midlands northwards into
:08:41. > :08:44.Scotland. Some rain and wintry showers across England and a heavy
:08:45. > :08:51.rain warning for East Sussex and Kent. The best of the dry weather is
:08:52. > :08:56.in north-east Scotland. Lighter winds than recently and feeling cold
:08:57. > :09:01.in the North East. Tomorrow a few wintry flurries in the East and
:09:02. > :09:07.North East, otherwise dry. Feeling cold, but the wind will be fairly
:09:08. > :09:13.light. Tomorrow night a little light sleet and rain in the North East,
:09:14. > :09:19.clearing away. There is a risk of icy patches again. Friday may start
:09:20. > :09:25.dry, but it will not last. Again some heavy rain and strong to gale
:09:26. > :09:29.force winds. It will be blustery on Saturday with sunshine and showers
:09:30. > :09:33.and with a high spring tide there is a risk of flooding on the south and
:09:34. > :09:39.west coasts. Some sunshine on Sunday.
:09:40. > :09:44.Tomorrow we continue our build up to the six Nations by going behind the
:09:45. > :09:49.scenes with Wales' strength and conditioning coaches who have helped
:09:50. > :09:54.Wales win the last two too enamoured with their ground-breaking approach
:09:55. > :10:00.to fitness training. Next you can see more on the investigation into
:10:01. > :10:01.Finance Wales' job creation record on the Wales Report. From
